2 Kings 2 (WEBP)

[1] When Yahweh was about to take Elijah up by a whirlwind into heaven, Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
[2] Elijah said to Elisha, “Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me as far as Bethel.” Elisha said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.
[3] The sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from over you today?” He said, “Yes, I know it. Hold your peace.”
[4] Elijah said to him, “Elisha, please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me to Jericho.” He said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho.
[5] The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came near to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from over you today?” He answered, “Yes, I know it. Hold your peace.”
[6] Elijah said to him, “Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me to the Jordan.” He said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” Then they both went on.
[7] Fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite them at a distance; and they both stood by the Jordan.
[8] Elijah took his mantle, and rolled it up, and struck the waters; and they were divided here and there, so that they both went over on dry ground.
[9] When they had gone over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be on me.”
[10] He said, “You have asked a hard thing. If you see me when I am taken from you, it will be so for you; but if not, it will not be so.”
[11] As they continued on and talked, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
[12] Elisha saw it, and he cried, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” He saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces.
[13] He also took up Elijah’s mantle that fell from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan.
[14] He took Elijah’s mantle that fell from him, and struck the waters, and said, “Where is Yahweh, the God of Elijah?” When he also had struck the waters, they were divided apart, and Elisha went over.
[15] When the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho facing him saw him, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” They came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
[16] They said to him, “See now, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Please let them go and seek your master. Perhaps Yahweh’s Spirit has taken him up, and put him on some mountain or into some valley.” He said, “Don’t send them.”
[17] When they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, “Send them.” Therefore they sent fifty men; and they searched for three days, but didn’t find him.
[18] They came back to him while he stayed at Jericho; and he said to them, “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t go’?”
[19] The men of the city said to Elisha, “Behold, please, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the land is barren.”
[20] He said, “Bring me a new jar, and put salt in it.” Then they brought it to him.
[21] He went out to the spring of the waters, and threw salt into it, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘I have healed these waters. There shall not be from there any more death or barren wasteland.’ ”
[22] So the waters were healed to this day, according to Elisha’s word which he spoke.
[23] He went up from there to Bethel. As he was going up by the way, some youths came out of the city and mocked him, and said to him, “Go up, you baldy! Go up, you baldy!”
[24] He looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in Yahweh’s name. Then two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of those youths.
[25] He went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.

2 Kings 2 (KJVS)

[1] And it came to pass, when the LORD H3068 would take up H5927 (8687) Elijah H452 into heaven H8064 by a whirlwind H5591, that Elijah H452 went H3212 (8799) with Elisha H477 from Gilgal H1537.
[2] And Elijah H452 said H559 (8799) unto Elisha H477, Tarry H3427 (8798) here, I pray thee; for the LORD H3068 hath sent H7971 (8804) me to Bethel H1008. And Elisha H477 said H559 (8799) [unto him, As] the LORD H3068 liveth H2416, and [as] thy soul H5315 liveth H2416, I will not leave H5800 (8799) thee. So they went down H3381 (8799) to Bethel H1008.
[3] And the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 that [were] at Bethel H1008 came forth H3318 (8799) to Elisha H477, and said H559 (8799) unto him, Knowest H3045 (8804) thou that the LORD H3068 will take away H3947 (8802) thy master H113 from thy head H7218 to day H3117? And he said H559 (8799), Yea, I know H3045 (8804) [it]; hold ye your peace H2814 (8685).
[4] And Elijah H452 said H559 (8799) unto him, Elisha H477, tarry H3427 (8798) here, I pray thee; for the LORD H3068 hath sent H7971 (8804) me to Jericho H3405. And he said H559 (8799), [As] the LORD H3068 liveth H2416, and [as] thy soul H5315 liveth H2416, I will not leave H5800 (8799) thee. So they came H935 (8799) to Jericho H3405.
[5] And the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 that [were] at Jericho H3405 came H5066 (8799) to Elisha H477, and said H559 (8799) unto him, Knowest H3045 (8804) thou that the LORD H3068 will take away H3947 (8802) thy master H113 from thy head H7218 to day H3117? And he answered H559 (8799), Yea, I know H3045 (8804) [it]; hold ye your peace H2814 (8685).
[6] And Elijah H452 said H559 (8799) unto him, Tarry H3427 (8798), I pray thee, here; for the LORD H3068 hath sent H7971 (8804) me to Jordan H3383. And he said H559 (8799), [As] the LORD H3068 liveth H2416, and [as] thy soul H5315 liveth H2416, I will not leave H5800 (8799) thee. And they two H8147 went on H3212 (8799).
[7] And fifty H2572 men H376 of the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 went H1980 (8804), and stood H5975 (8799) to view H5048 afar off H7350: and they two H8147 stood H5975 (8804) by Jordan H3383.
[8] And Elijah H452 took H3947 (8799) his mantle H155, and wrapped [it] together H1563 (8799), and smote H5221 (8686) the waters H4325, and they were divided H2673 (8735) hither and thither, so that they two H8147 went over H5674 (8799) on dry H2724 ground.
[9] And it came to pass, when they were gone over H5674 (8800), that Elijah H452 said H559 (8804) unto Elisha H477, Ask H7592 (8798) what I shall do H6213 (8799) for thee, before I be taken away H3947 (8735) from thee. And Elisha H477 said H559 (8799), I pray thee, let a double H8147 portion H6310 of thy spirit H7307 be upon me.
[10] And he said H559 (8799), Thou hast asked H7592 (8800) a hard thing H7185 (8689): [nevertheless], if thou see H7200 (8799) me [when I am] taken H3947 (8795) from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be [so].
[11] And it came to pass, as they still H1980 (8800) went on H1980 (8802), and talked H1696 (8763), that, behold, [there appeared] a chariot H7393 of fire H784, and horses H5483 of fire H784, and parted H6504 (8686) them both H8147 asunder H996; and Elijah H452 went up H5927 (8799) by a whirlwind H5591 into heaven H8064.
[12] And Elisha H477 saw H7200 (8802) [it], and he cried H6817 (8764), My father H1, my father H1, the chariot H7393 of Israel H3478, and the horsemen H6571 thereof. And he saw H7200 (8804) him no more: and he took hold H2388 (8686) of his own clothes H899, and rent H7167 (8799) them in two H8147 pieces H7168.
[13] He took up H7311 (8686) also the mantle H155 of Elijah H452 that fell H5307 (8804) from him, and went back H7725 (8799), and stood H5975 (8799) by the bank H8193 of Jordan H3383;
[14] And he took H3947 (8799) the mantle H155 of Elijah H452 that fell H5307 (8804) from him, and smote H5221 (8686) the waters H4325, and said H559 (8799), Where [is] the LORD H3068 God H430 of Elijah H452? and when he also had smitten H5221 (8686) the waters H4325, they parted H2673 (8735) hither and thither: and Elisha H477 went over H5674 (8799).
[15] And when the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 which [were] to view at Jericho H3405 saw H7200 (8799) him, they said H559 (8799), The spirit H7307 of Elijah H452 doth rest H5117 (8804) on Elisha H477. And they came H935 (8799) to meet H7125 (8800) him, and bowed H7812 (8691) themselves to the ground H776 before him.
[16] And they said H559 (8799) unto him, Behold now, there be H3426 with thy servants H5650 fifty H2572 strong H2428 men H1121 H582; let them go H3212 (8799), we pray thee, and seek H1245 (8762) thy master H113: lest peradventure the Spirit H7307 of the LORD H3068 hath taken him up H5375 (8804), and cast H7993 (8686) him upon some H259 mountain H2022, or into some H259 valley H1516. And he said H559 (8799), Ye shall not send H7971 (8799).
[17] And when they urged H6484 (8799) him till he was ashamed H954 (8800), he said H559 (8799), Send H7971 (8798). They sent H7971 (8799) therefore fifty H2572 men H376; and they sought H1245 (8762) three H7969 days H3117, but found H4672 (8804) him not.
[18] And when they came again H7725 (8799) to him, (for he tarried H3427 (8802) at Jericho H3405,) he said H559 (8799) unto them, Did I not say H559 (8804) unto you, Go H3212 (8799) not?
[19] And the men H582 of the city H5892 said H559 (8799) unto Elisha H477, Behold, I pray thee, the situation H4186 of this city H5892 [is] pleasant H2896, as my lord H113 seeth H7200 (8802): but the water H4325 [is] naught H7451, and the ground H776 barren H7921 (8764).
[20] And he said H559 (8799), Bring H3947 (8798) me a new H2319 cruse H6746, and put H7760 (8798) salt H4417 therein. And they brought H3947 (8799) [it] to him.
[21] And he went forth H3318 (8799) unto the spring H4161 of the waters H4325, and cast H7993 (8686) the salt H4417 in there, and said H559 (8799), Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068, I have healed H7495 (8765) these waters H4325; there shall not be from thence any more death H4194 or barren H7921 (8764) [land].
[22] So the waters H4325 were healed H7495 (8735) unto this day H3117, according to the saying H1697 of Elisha H477 which he spake H1696 (8765).
[23] And he went up H5927 (8799) from thence unto Bethel H1008: and as he was going up H5927 (8802) by the way H1870, there came forth H3318 (8804) little H6996 children H5288 out of the city H5892, and mocked H7046 (8691) him, and said H559 (8799) unto him, Go up H5927 (8798), thou bald head H7142; go up H5927 (8798), thou bald head H7142.
[24] And he turned H6437 (8799) back H310, and looked H7200 (8799) on them, and cursed H7043 (8762) them in the name H8034 of the LORD H3068. And there came forth H3318 (8799) two H8147 she bears H1677 out of the wood H3293, and tare H1234 (8762) forty H705 and two H8147 children H3206 of them.
[25] And he went H3212 (8799) from thence to mount H2022 Carmel H3760, and from thence he returned H7725 (8804) to Samaria H8111.

Young’s Literal Translation

2 Kings 2 (YLT)

[1] And it cometh to pass, at Jehovah’s taking up Elijah in a whirlwind to the heavens, that Elijah goeth, and Elisha, from Gilgal,
[2] and Elijah saith unto Elisha, ‘Abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me unto Beth-El;’ and Elisha saith, ‘Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;’ and they go down to Beth-El.
[3] And sons of the prophets who are in Beth-El come out unto Elisha, and say unto him, ‘Hast thou known that to-day Jehovah is taking thy lord from thy head?’ and he saith, ‘I also have known-keep silent.’
[4] And Elijah saith to him, ‘Elisha, abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me to Jericho;’ and he saith, ‘Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;’ and they come in to Jericho.
[5] And sons of the prophets who are in Jericho come nigh unto Elisha, and say unto him, ‘Hast thou known that to-day Jehovah is taking thy lord from thy head?’ and he saith, ‘I also have known-keep silent.’
[6] And Elijah saith to him, ‘Abide, I pray thee, here, for Jehovah hath sent me to the Jordan;’ and he saith, ‘Jehovah liveth, and thy soul liveth, if I leave thee;’ and they go on both of them,
[7] -and fifty men of the sons of the prophets have gone on, and stand over-against afar off-and both of them have stood by the Jordan.
[8] And Elijah taketh his robe, and wrappeth it together, and smiteth the waters, and they are halved, hither and thither, and they pass over both of them on dry land.
[9] And it cometh to pass, at their passing over, that Elijah hath said unto Elisha, ‘Ask, what do I do for thee before I am taken from thee?’ and Elisha saith, ‘Then let there be, I pray thee, a double portion of thy spirit unto me;’
[10] and he saith, ‘Thou hast asked a hard thing; if thou dost see me taken from thee, it is to thee so; and if not, it is not.’
[11] And it cometh to pass, they are going, going on and speaking, and lo, a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and they separate between them both, and Elijah goeth up in a whirlwind, to the heavens.
[12] And Elisha is seeing, and he is crying, ‘My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and its horsemen;’ and he hath not seen him again; and he taketh hold on his garments, and rendeth them into two pieces.
[13] And he taketh up the robe of Elijah, that fell from off him, and turneth back and standeth on the edge of the Jordan,
[14] and he taketh the robe of Elijah that fell from off him, and smiteth the waters, and saith, ‘Where is Jehovah, God of Elijah-even He?’ and he smiteth the waters, and they are halved, hither and thither, and Elisha passeth over.
[15] And they see him-the sons of the prophets who are in Jericho-over-against, and they say, ‘Rested hath the spirit of Elijah on Elisha;’ and they come to meet him, and bow themselves to him to the earth,
[16] and say unto him, ‘Lo, we pray thee, there are with thy servants fifty men, sons of valour: let them go, we pray thee, and they seek thy lord, lest the Spirit of Jehovah hath taken him up, and doth cast him on one of the hills, or into one of the valleys;’ and he saith, ‘Ye do not send.’
[17] And they press upon him, till he is ashamed, and he saith, ‘Send ye;’ and they send fifty men, and they seek three days, and have not found him;
[18] and they turn back unto him-and he is abiding in Jericho-and he saith unto them, ‘Did I not say unto you, Do not go?’
[19] And the men of the city say unto Elisha, ‘Lo, we pray thee, the site of the city is good, as my lord seeth, and the waters are bad, and the earth sterile.’
[20] And he saith, ‘Bring to me a new dish, and place there salt;’ and they bring it unto him,
[21] and he goeth out unto the source of the waters, and casteth there salt, and saith, ‘Thus said Jehovah, I have given healing to these waters; there is not thence any more death and sterility.’
[22] And the waters are healed unto this day, according to the word of Elisha, that he spake.
[23] And he goeth up thence to Beth-El, and he is going up in the way, and little youths have come out from the city, and scoff at him, and say to him, ‘Go up, bald-head! go up, bald-head!’
[24] And he looketh behind him, and seeth them, and declareth them vile in the name of Jehovah, and two bears come out of the forest, and rend of them forty and two lads.
[25] And he goeth thence unto the hill of Carmel, and thence he hath turned back to Samaria.
