Zechariah 1 (WEBP)

[1] In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s° word came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,
[2] “Yahweh was very displeased with your fathers.
[3] Therefore tell them, Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Return to me,’ says Yahweh of Armies, ‘and I will return to you,’ says Yahweh of Armies.
[4] Don’t you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Yahweh of Armies says, ‘Return now from your evil ways and from your evil doings;’ but they didn’t hear nor listen to me, says Yahweh.
[5] Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?
[6] But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didn’t they overtake your fathers? “Then they repented and said, ‘Just as Yahweh of Armies determined to do to us, according to our ways and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.’ ”
[7] On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,
[8] “I had a vision in the night, and behold,§ a man riding on a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in a ravine; and behind him there were red, brown, and white horses.
[9] Then I asked, ‘My lord, what are these?’ ” The angel who talked with me said to me, “I will show you what these are.”
[10] The man who stood among the myrtle trees answered, “They are the ones Yahweh has sent to go back and forth through the earth.”
[11] They reported to Yahweh’s angel who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, “We have walked back and forth through the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and in peace.”
[12] Then Yahweh’s angel replied, “O Yahweh of Armies, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?”
[13] Yahweh answered the angel who talked with me with kind and comforting words.
[14] So the angel who talked with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies says: “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.
[15] I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, but they added to the calamity.”
[16] Therefore Yahweh says: “I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy. My house shall be built in it,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and a line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.” ’
[17] “Proclaim further, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies says: “My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and Yahweh will again comfort Zion, and will again choose Jerusalem.” ’ ”
[18] I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, four horns.
[19] I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” He answered me, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”
[20] Yahweh showed me four craftsmen.
[21] Then I asked, “What are these coming to do?” He said, “These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man lifted up his head; but these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations that lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.”

Zechariah 1:1 “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations.
Zechariah 1:8 “Behold”, from “הִנֵּה”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.

Zechariah 1 (KJVS)

[1] In the eighth H8066 month H2320, in the second H8147 year H8141 of Darius H1867, came the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 unto Zechariah H2148, the son H1121 of Berechiah H1296, the son H1121 of Iddo H5714 the prophet H5030, saying H559 (8800),
[2] The LORD H3068 hath been sore H7110 displeased H7107 (8804) with your fathers H1.
[3] Therefore say H559 (8804) thou unto them, Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635; Turn H7725 (8798) ye unto me, saith H5002 (8803) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635, and I will turn H7725 (8799) unto you, saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635.
[4] Be ye not as your fathers H1, unto whom the former H7223 prophets H5030 have cried H7121 (8804), saying H559 (8800), Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635; Turn H7725 (8798) ye now from your evil H7451 ways H1870, and [from] your evil H7451 doings H4611: but they did not hear H8085 (8804), nor hearken H7181 (8689) unto me, saith H5002 (8803) the LORD H3068.
[5] Your fathers H1, where [are] they? and the prophets H5030, do they live H2421 (8799) for ever H5769?
[6] But my words H1697 and my statutes H2706, which I commanded H6680 (8765) my servants H5650 the prophets H5030, did they not take hold H5381 (8689) of your fathers H1? and they returned H7725 (8799) and said H559 (8799), Like as the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635 thought H2161 (8804) to do H6213 (8800) unto us, according to our ways H1870, and according to our doings H4611, so hath he dealt H6213 (8804) with us.
[7] Upon the four H702 and twentieth H6242 day H3117 of the eleventh H6249 H6240 month H2320, which [is] the month H2320 Sebat H7627, in the second H8147 year H8141 of Darius H1867, came the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 unto Zechariah H2148, the son H1121 of Berechiah H1296, the son H1121 of Iddo H5714 the prophet H5030, saying H559 (8800),
[8] I saw H7200 (8804) by night H3915, and behold a man H376 riding H7392 (8802) upon a red H122 horse H5483, and he stood H5975 (8802) among the myrtle trees H1918 that [were] in the bottom H4699; and behind H310 him [were there] red H122 horses H5483, speckled H8320, and white H3836.
[9] Then said H559 (8799) I, O my lord H113, what [are] these? And the angel H4397 that talked H1696 (8802) with me said H559 (8799) unto me, I will shew H7200 (8686) thee what these [be].
[10] And the man H376 that stood H5975 (8802) among the myrtle trees H1918 answered H6030 (8799) and said H559 (8799), These [are they] whom the LORD H3068 hath sent H7971 (8804) to walk H1980 (8692) to and fro through the earth H776.
[11] And they answered H6030 (8799) the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 that stood H5975 (8802) among the myrtle trees H1918, and said H559 (8799), We have walked to and fro H1980 (8694) through the earth H776, and, behold, all the earth H776 sitteth still H3427 (8802), and is at rest H8252 (8802).
[12] Then the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 answered H6030 (8799) and said H559 (8799), O LORD H3068 of hosts H6635, how long wilt thou not have mercy H7355 (8762) on Jerusalem H3389 and on the cities H5892 of Judah H3063, against which thou hast had indignation H2194 (8804) these threescore and ten H7657 years H8141?
[13] And the LORD H3068 answered H6030 (8799) the angel H4397 that talked H1696 (8802) with me [with] good H2896 words H1697 [and] comfortable H5150 words H1697.
[14] So the angel H4397 that communed H1696 (8802) with me said H559 (8799) unto me, Cry H7121 (8798) thou, saying H559 (8800), Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635; I am jealous H7065 (8765) for Jerusalem H3389 and for Zion H6726 with a great H1419 jealousy H7068.
[15] And I am very H1419 sore H7110 displeased H7107 (8804) with the heathen H1471 [that are] at ease H7600: for I was but a little H4592 displeased H7107 (8802), and they helped H5826 (8804) forward the affliction H7451.
[16] Therefore thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068; I am returned H7725 (8804) to Jerusalem H3389 with mercies H7356: my house H1004 shall be built H1129 (8735) in it, saith H5002 (8803) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635, and a line H6957 (8675) H6961 shall be stretched forth H5186 (8735) upon Jerusalem H3389.
[17] Cry H7121 (8798) yet, saying H559 (8800), Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635; My cities H5892 through prosperity H2896 shall yet be spread abroad H6327 (8799); and the LORD H3068 shall yet comfort H5162 (8765) Zion H6726, and shall yet choose H977 (8804) Jerusalem H3389.
[18] Then lifted I up H5375 (8799) mine eyes H5869, and saw H7200 (8799), and behold four H702 horns H7161.
[19] And I said H559 (8799) unto the angel H4397 that talked H1696 (8802) with me, What [be] these? And he answered H559 (8799) me, These [are] the horns H7161 which have scattered H2219 (8765) Judah H3063, Israel H3478, and Jerusalem H3389.
[20] And the LORD H3068 shewed H7200 (8686) me four H702 carpenters H2796.
[21] Then said H559 (8799) I, What come H935 (8802) these to do H6213 (8800)? And he spake H559 (8799), saying H559 (8800), These [are] the horns H7161 which have scattered H2219 (8765) Judah H3063, so that H6310 no man H376 did lift up H5375 (8804) his head H7218: but these are come H935 (8799) to fray H2729 (8687) them, to cast out H3034 (8763) the horns H7161 of the Gentiles H1471, which lifted up H5375 (8802) [their] horn H7161 over the land H776 of Judah H3063 to scatter H2219 (8763) it.

Young’s Literal Translation

Zechariah 1 (YLT)

[1] In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been unto Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:
[2] ‘Jehovah was wroth against your fathers-wrath!
[3] And thou hast said unto them, Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, turn back unto Me, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, And I turn back unto you, said Jehovah of Hosts.
[4] Ye shall not be as your fathers, To whom the former prophets called, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Turn back I pray you, From your evil ways and from your evil doings, And they did not hearken, Nor attend to Me-an affirmation of Jehovah.
[5] Your fathers-where are they? And the prophets-to the age do they live?
[6] Only, My words, and My statutes, That I commanded My servants the prophets, Have they not overtaken your fathers, And they turn back and say: As Jehovah of Hosts designed to do to us, According to our ways, and according to our doings, So He hath done to us?’
[7] On the twenty and fourth day of the eleventh month, (it is the month of Sebat,) in the second year of Darius, hath a word of Jehovah been unto Zechariah, son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, the prophet, saying:
[8] I have seen by night, and lo, one riding on a red horse, and he is standing between the myrtles that are in the shade, and behind him are horses, red, bay, and white.
[9] And I say, ‘What are these, my lord?’ And the messenger who is speaking with me saith unto me, ‘I-I do shew thee what these are.’
[10] And the one who is standing between the myrtles doth answer and say, ‘These are they whom Jehovah hath sent to walk up and down in the land.’
[11] And they answer the messenger of Jehovah who is standing between the myrtles, and say, ‘We have walked up and down in the land, and lo, all the land is sitting still, and at rest.’
[12] And the messenger of Jehovah answereth and saith, ‘Jehovah of Hosts! till when dost Thou not pity Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, that Thou hast abhorred these seventy years?’
[13] And Jehovah answereth the messenger, who is speaking with me, good words, comfortable words.
[14] And the messenger who is speaking with me, saith unto me, ‘Call, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: I have been zealous for Jerusalem, and for Zion with great zeal.
[15] And with great wrath I am wroth against the nations who are at ease, For I was a little wroth, and they assisted-for evil.
[16] Therefore, thus said Jehovah: I have turned to Jerusalem with mercies, My house is built in it, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts, And a line is stretched over Jerusalem.
[17] Again call, saying: Thus said Jehovah of Hosts, Again do my cities overflow from good, And Jehovah hath again comforted Zion, And He hath fixed again on Jerusalem.’
[18] And I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, four horns.
[19] And I say unto the messenger who is speaking with me, ‘What are these?’ And he saith unto me, ‘These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.’
[20] And Jehovah doth shew me four artisans.
[21] And I say, ‘What are these coming in to do?’ And He speaketh, saying: ‘These are the horns that have scattered Judah, so that no one hath lifted up his head, and these come in to trouble them, to cast down the horns of the nations who are lifting up a horn against the land of Judah-to scatter it.’
