1 Timothy 1:5-20 (ASV, KJVS, YLT)
American Standard Version1 Timothy 11. Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the commandment of God our Saviour, and Christ Jesus our hope;2. unto Timothy, my true child in faith: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. 3. As I exhorted thee to tarry at Ephesus, when I was going into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge certain men not to teach a different doctrine, 4. neither to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questionings, rather than a dispensation of God which is in faith; so do I now. 5. But the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and faith unfeigned: 6. from which things some having swerved have turned aside unto vain talking; 7. desiring to be teachers of the law, though they understand neither what they say, nor whereof they confidently affirm. 8. But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully, 9. as knowing this, that law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 10. for fornicators, for abusers of themselves with men, for menstealers, for liars, for false swearers, and if there be any other thing contrary to the sound doctrine; 11. according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust. 12. I thank him that enabled me, even Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he counted me faithful, appointing me to his service; 13. though I was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: howbeit I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief; 14. and the grace of our Lord abounded exceedingly with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 15. Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief: 16. howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me as chief might Jesus Christ show forth all his longsuffering, for an ensample of them that should thereafter believe on him unto eternal life. 17. Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. 18. This charge I commit unto thee, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which led the way to thee, that by them thou mayest war the good warfare; 19. holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust from them made shipwreck concerning the faith: 20. of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander; whom I delivered unto Satan, that they might be taught not to blaspheme. |
King James w/Strong's #'s1 Timothy 11. Paul <3972>, an apostle <0652> of Jesus <2424> Christ <5547> by <2596> the commandment <2003> of God <2316> our <2257> Saviour <4990>, and <2532> Lord <2962> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547>, [which <3588> is] our <2257> hope <1680>;2. Unto Timothy <5095>, [my] own <1103> son <5043> in <1722> the faith <4102>: Grace <5485>, mercy <1656>, [and] peace <1515>, from <0575> God <2316> our <2257> Father <3962> and <2532> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547> our <2257> Lord <2962>. 3. As <2531> I besought <3870> (AorActInd) thee <4571> to abide still <4357> (AorActInf) at <1722> Ephesus <2181>, when I went <4198> (PresMidPasDepPtc) into <1519> Macedonia <3109>, that <2443> thou mightest charge <3853> (AorActSubj) some <5100> that they teach <2085> no <3361> other doctrine <2085> (PresActInf), 4. Neither <3366> give heed <4337> (PresActInf) to fables <3454> and <2532> endless <0562> genealogies <1076>, which <3748> minister <3930> (PresActInd) questions <2214>, rather <3123> than <2228> godly <2316> edifying <3620> which <3588> is in <1722> faith <4102>: [so do]. 5. Now <1161> the end <5056> of the commandment <3852> is <2076> (PresInd) charity <0026> out of <1537> a pure <2513> heart <2588>, and <2532> [of] a good <0018> conscience <4893>, and <2532> [of] faith <4102> unfeigned <0505>: 6. From which <3739> some <5100> having swerved <0795> (AorActPtc) have turned aside <1624> (Aor2PasDepSubj) unto <1519> vain jangling <3150>; 7. Desiring <2309> (PresActPtc) to be <1511> (PresInf) teachers of the law <3547>; <3361> understanding <3539> (PresActPtc) neither <3383> what <3739> they say <3004> (PresActInd), nor <3383> whereof <4012> <5101> they affirm <1226> (PresMidPasDepInd). 8. But <1161> we know <1492> (PerfActInd) that <3754> the law <3551> [is] good <2570>, if <1437> a man <5100> use <5530> (PresMidPasDepSubj) it <0846> lawfully <3545>; 9. Knowing <1492> (PerfActPtc) this <5124>, that <3754> the law <3551> is <2749> not <3756> made <2749> (PresMidPasDepInd) for a righteous man <1342>, but <1161> for the lawless <0459> and <2532> disobedient <0506>, for the ungodly <0765> and <2532> for sinners <0268>, for unholy <0462> and <2532> profane <0952>, for murderers of fathers <3964> and <2532> murderers of mothers <3389>, for manslayers <0409>, 10. For whoremongers <4205>, for them that defile themselves with mankind <0733>, for menstealers <0405>, for liars <5583>, for perjured persons <1965>, and <2532> if there be any <1536> other thing <2087> that is contrary <0480> (PresMidPasDepInd) to sound <5198> (PresActPtc) doctrine <1319>; 11. According <2596> to the glorious <1391> gospel <2098> of the blessed <3107> God <2316>, which <3739> was committed to <4100> my <1473> trust <4100> (AorPasInd). 12. And <2532> I thank <2192> (PresActInd) <5485> Christ <5547> Jesus <2424> our <2257> Lord <2962>, who <3588> hath enabled <1743> (AorActPtc) me <3165>, for <3754> that he counted <2233> (AorMidDepInd) me <3165> faithful <4103>, putting me <5087> (Aor2MidPtc) into <1519> the ministry <1248>; 13. Who <3588> was <5607> (PresPtc) before <4386> a blasphemer <0989>, and <2532> a persecutor <1376>, and <2532> injurious <5197>: but <0235> I obtained mercy <1653> (AorPasInd), because <3754> I did <4160> (AorActInd) [it] ignorantly <0050> (PresActPtc) in <1722> unbelief <0570>. 14. And <1161> the grace <5485> of our <2257> Lord <2962> was exceeding abundant <5250> (AorActInd) with <3326> faith <4102> and <2532> love <0026> which <3588> is in <1722> Christ <5547> Jesus <2424>. 15. This [is] a faithful <4103> saying <3056>, and <2532> worthy <0514> of all <3956> acceptation <0594>, that <3754> Christ <5547> Jesus <2424> came <2064> (Aor2ActInd) into <1519> the world <2889> to save <4982> (AorActInf) sinners <0268>; of whom <3739> I <1473> am <1510> (PresInd) chief <4413>. 16. Howbeit <0235> for this <5124> cause <1223> I obtained mercy <1653> (AorPasInd), that <2443> in <1722> me <1698> first <4413> Jesus <2424> Christ <5547> might shew forth <1731> (AorMidSubj) all <3956> longsuffering <3115>, for <4314> a pattern <5296> to them which should hereafter <3195> (PresActPtc) believe <4100> (PresActInf) on <1909> him <0846> to <1519> life <2222> everlasting <0166>. 17. Now <1161> unto the King <0935> eternal <0165>, immortal <0862>, invisible <0517>, the only <3441> wise <4680> God <2316>, [be] honour <5092> and <2532> glory <1391> for <1519> ever <0165> and ever <0165>. Amen <0281>. 18. This <5026> charge <3852> I commit <3908> (PresMidInd) unto thee <4671>, son <5043> Timothy <5095>, according to <2596> the prophecies <4394> which went before <4254> (PresActPtc) on <1909> thee <4571>, that <2443> thou <4754> by <1722> them <0846> mightest war <4754> (PresMidSubj) a good <2570> warfare <4752>; 19. Holding <2192> (PresActPtc) faith <4102>, and <2532> a good <0018> conscience <4893>; which <3739> some <5100> having put away <0683> (AorMidDepPtc) concerning <4012> faith <4102> have made shipwreck <3489> (AorActInd): 20. Of whom <3739> is <2076> (PresInd) Hymenaeus <5211> and <2532> Alexander <0223>; whom <3739> I have delivered <3860> (AorActInd) unto Satan <4567>, that <2443> they may learn <3811> (AorPasSubj) not <3361> to blaspheme <0987> (PresActInf). |
Young's Literal Translation1 Timothy 11. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to a command of God our Saviour, and of the Lord Jesus Christ our hope,2. to Timotheus-genuine child in faith: Grace, kindness, peace, from God our Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord, 3. according as I did exhort thee to remain in Ephesus-I going on to Macedonia-that thou mightest charge certain not to teach any other thing, 4. nor to give heed to fables and endless genealogies, that cause questions rather than the building up of God that is in faith:- 5. And the end of the charge is love out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned, 6. from which certain, having swerved, did turn aside to vain discourse, 7. willing to be teachers of law, not understanding either the things they say, nor concerning what they asseverate, 8. and we have known that the law is good, if any one may use it lawfully; 9. having known this, that for a righteous man law is not set, but for lawless and insubordinate persons, ungodly and sinners, impious and profane, parricides and matricides, men-slayers, 10. whoremongers, sodomites, men-stealers, liars, perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that to sound doctrine is adverse, 11. according to the good news of the glory of the blessed God, with which I was entrusted. 12. And I give thanks to him who enabled me-Christ Jesus our Lord-that he did reckon me stedfast, having put me to the ministration, 13. who before was speaking evil, and persecuting, and insulting, but I found kindness, because, being ignorant, I did it in unbelief, 14. and exceedingly abound did the grace of our Lord, with faith and love that is in Christ Jesus: 15. stedfast is the word, and of all acceptation worthy, that Christ Jesus came to the world to save sinners-first of whom I am; 16. but because of this I found kindness, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all long-suffering, for a pattern of those about to believe on him to life age-during: 17. and to the King of the ages, the incorruptible, invisible, only wise God, is honour and glory-to the ages of the ages! Amen. 18. This charge I commit to thee, child Timotheus, according to the prophesies that went before upon thee, that thou mayest war in them the good warfare, 19. having faith and a good conscience, which certain having thrust away, concerning the faith did make shipwreck, 20. of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I did deliver to the Adversary, that they might be instructed not to speak evil. |
