Jeremiah 33:10–11 ()

[10] “Thus says the Lord, ‘Yet again there will be heard in this place, of which you say, “It is a waste, without man and without beast,” that is, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without man and without inhabitant and without beast, [11] the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who say, “Give thanks to the Lord of hosts, For the Lord is good, For His lovingkindness is everlasting”; and of those who bring a thank offering into the house of the Lord. For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were at first,’ says the Lord.

Jeremiah 33:11 Or captivity

While we may face times of death and desolation, there is a day coming when Christ will restore everything to the way they were originally intended: no pain, no death, and face-to-face fellowship with God (). But there is a second Messianic prophecy here that may have been lost on Jeremiah and the believers of his day.

In , it mentions that “the voice of the bridegroom and the bride” will be heard again in this place. While at first this may seem like it is saying that it will be safe and joyful enough for people get married once again, Jesus said that “in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage” ().

So, what is it? Well, we find out in the New Testament that Jesus is the Bridegroom and the church is the bride (). So, I believe that God was hinting to that in this passage, rather than a generic statement about marriage.

Revelation 19:7–9 ()

[7] “Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come and His bride has made herself ready.” [8] It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean; for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. [9] Then he said* to me, “Write, ‘Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.’” And he said* to me, “These are true words of God.”
