Yehovih, Yehovi (variant of YHWH)

Word Picture:

It is used in the Masoretic Text when both “YHWH” (, God’s name, a.k.a., the Tetragrammaton) and the title “Adonai” (, Lord) close together, since “Adonai” is often said in place of “YHWH” out of reverence. Therefore, in order to avoid the repetition of “Adonai Adonai,” the scribes altered the vowels in the Tetragrammaton to produce “Yehovih” when it appeared before or after “Adonai.”
