More Than You Can Handle EGP Blog post from September 7, 2012

Maybe it’s just semantics, but it’s a pet peeve of mine when people say, “God won’t give you more than you can handle.” While it’s true that God won’t allow us to be “tempted beyond what we’re able…to endure” and that Christ’s “yoke is easy and His burden is light,” but God allows us to be overwhelmed so that we realize our dependence on Him, so that He is our Rock, our Fortress, our Deliverer, our Shield, Horn (or Power) of our Salvation, our Stronghold…

2 Corinthians 1:8–10 ()

[8] I think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and completely overwhelmed, and we thought we would never live through it. [9] In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we learned not to rely on ourselves, but on God who can raise the dead. [10] And he did deliver us from mortal danger. And we are confident that he will continue to deliver us.
