Job 15:14–16 (NASB)
“What is man, that he should be pure, Or he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? “Behold, He puts no trust in His holy ones, And the heavens are not pure in His sight; How much less one who is detestable and corrupt, Man, who drinks iniquity like water!
Ephesians 1:3–6 (NASB)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him°. In love He° predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind° intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
Ephesians 1:4 Or Him, in love
Ephesians 1:5a Lit having predestined
Ephesians 1:5b Lit good pleasure
Before even making us or even the world, God planned on sending His Beloved Son to save us…not based on our works (which apart from Christ are detestable in His sight), but on a Father’s kindness and His Son’s work on the cross, so that His Name will be glorified.
