Nehemiah is the eleventh of the Historical Books. A cupbearer to the Persian king hears that Jerusalem still lies open, asks leave to go and rebuild its wall, and finishes it in fifty-two days against opposition and threats. The book is as much about renewing a people as about rebuilding a wall.
