[1] Now when the wall was built and I had set up the doors, and the gatekeepers and the singers and the Levites were appointed,
[2] I put my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the governor of the fortress, in charge of Jerusalem; for he was a faithful man and feared God above many.
[3] I said to them, “Don’t let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot; and while they stand guard, let them shut the doors, and you bar them; and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, everyone in his watch, with everyone near his house.”
[4] Now the city was wide and large; but the people were few therein, and the houses were not built.
[5] My God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be listed by genealogy. I found the book of the genealogy of those who came up at the first, and I found this written in it:
[6] These are the children of the province who went up out of the captivity of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and who returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, everyone to his city,
[7] who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, and Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:
[8] The children of Parosh: two thousand one hundred seventy-two.
[9] The children of Shephatiah: three hundred seventy-two.
[10] The children of Arah: six hundred fifty-two.
[11] The children of Pahathmoab, of the children of Jeshua and Joab: two thousand eight hundred eighteen.
[12] The children of Elam: one thousand two hundred fifty-four.
[13] The children of Zattu: eight hundred forty-five.

[57] The children of Solomon’s servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Perida,
[58] the children of Jaala, the children of Darkon, the children of Giddel,
[59] the children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth Hazzebaim, and the children of Amon.
[60] All the temple servants and the children of Solomon’s servants were three hundred ninety-two.
[61] These were those who went up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer; but they could not show their fathers’ houses, nor their offspring, whether they were of Israel:
[62] The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda: six hundred forty-two.
[63] Of the priests: the children of Hobaiah, the children of Hakkoz, the children of Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name.
[64] These searched for their genealogical records, but couldn’t find them. Therefore they were deemed disqualified and removed from the priesthood.
[65] The governor told them not to eat of the most holy things until a priest stood up to minister with Urim and Thummim.
[66] The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred sixty,
[67] in addition to their male servants and their female servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty-seven. They had two hundred forty-five singing men and singing women.
[68] Their horses were seven hundred thirty-six; their mules, two hundred forty-five;
[69] their camels, four hundred thirty-five; their donkeys, six thousand seven hundred twenty.
[70] Some from among the heads of fathers’ households gave to the work. The governor gave to the treasury one thousand darics of gold, fifty basins, and five hundred thirty priests’ garments.
[71] Some of the heads of fathers’ households gave into the treasury of the work twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand two hundred minas of silver.
[72] That which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand darics of gold, plus two thousand minas of silver, and sixty-seven priests’ garments.
[73] So the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, some of the people, the temple servants, and all Israel lived in their cities. When the seventh month had come, the children of Israel were in their cities.

Nehemiah 7:70 a daric was a gold coin issued by a Persian king, weighing about 8.4 grams or about 0.27 troy ounces each.
Nehemiah 7:71 A mina is about 600 grams or 1.3 U. S. pounds, so 2,200 minas is about 1.3 metric tons.

[63] And of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai, which took () [one] of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite to wife, and was called () after their name.
[64] These sought () their register [among] those that were reckoned by genealogy, () but it was not found: () therefore were they, as polluted, () put from the priesthood.
[65] And the Tirshatha said () unto them, that they should not eat () of the most holy things, till there stood () [up] a priest with Urim and Thummim.
[66] The whole congregation together [was] forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,
[67] Beside their manservants and their maidservants, of whom [there were] seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and they had two hundred forty and five singing men () and singing women. ()
[68] Their horses, seven hundred thirty and six: their mules, two hundred forty and five:
[69] [Their] camels, four hundred thirty and five: six thousand seven hundred and twenty asses.
[70] And some of the chief of the fathers gave () unto the work. The Tirshatha gave () to the treasure a thousand drams of gold, fifty basons, five hundred and thirty priests’ garments.
[71] And [some] of the chief of the fathers gave () to the treasure of the work twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand and two hundred pound of silver.
[72] And [that] which the rest of the people gave () [was] twenty thousand drams of gold, and two thousand pound of silver, and threescore and seven priests’ garments.
[73] So the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and the singers, () and [some] of the people, and the Nethinims, and all Israel, dwelt () in their cities; and when the seventh month came, () the children of Israel [were] in their cities.

[2] και ενετειλαμην τω ανανια αδελφω μου και τω ανανια αρχοντι της βιρα εν ιερουσαλημ οτι αυτος ως ανηρ αληθης και φοβουμενος τον θεον παρα πολλους
[3] και ειπα αυτοις ουκ ανοιγησονται πυλαι ιερουσαλημ εως αμα τω ηλιω και ετι αυτων γρηγορουντων κλειεσθωσαν αι θυραι και σφηνουσθωσαν και στησον προφυλακας οικουντων εν ιερουσαλημ ανηρ εν προφυλακη αυτου και ανηρ απεναντι οικιας αυτου

[64] ουτοι εζητησαν γραφην αυτων της συνοδιας και ουχ ευρεθη και ηγχιστευθησαν απο της ιερατειας
[65] και ειπεν αθερσαθα ινα μη φαγωσιν απο του αγιου των αγιων εως αναστη ο ιερευς φωτισων
[66] και εγενετο πασα η εκκλησια ως εις τεσσαρες μυριαδες δισχιλιοι τριακοσιοι εξηκοντα
[67] παρεξ δουλων αυτων και παιδισκων αυτων ουτοι επτακισχιλιοι τριακοσιοι τριακοντα επτα και αδοντες και αδουσαι διακοσιοι τεσσαρακοντα πεντε
[68] ιπποι επτακοσιοι τριακοντα εξ ημιονοι διακοσιοι τεσσαρακοντα πεντε
[69] καμηλοι τετρακοσιοι τριακοντα πεντε ονοι εξακισχιλιοι επτακοσιοι εικοσι

[71] και απο αρχηγων των πατριων εδωκαν εις θησαυρον του εργου χρυσιου δυο μυριαδας και αργυριου μνας δισχιλιας διακοσιας
[72] και εδωκαν οι καταλοιποι του λαου χρυσιου δυο μυριαδας και αργυριου μνας δισχιλιας διακοσιας και χοθωνωθ των ιερεων εξηκοντα επτα
[73] και εκαθισαν οι ιερεις και οι λευιται και οι πυλωροι και οι αδοντες και οι απο του λαου και οι ναθινιμ και πας ισραηλ εν πολεσιν αυτων και εφθασεν ο μην ο εβδομος και οι υιοι ισραηλ εν πολεσιν αυτων
