Strong’s Greek Lexicon
of immed. Latin origin, but ultimately a derivative of G138 in the sense of its cognate G1507; a coil (spira, “spire”), i.e. (figuratively) a mass of men (a Roman military cohort; also [by analogy] a squad of Levitical janitors):—band.
Owing to changes in the enumeration while in progress, there were no words left for numbers 2717 and 3203–3302, which were therefore silently dropped out of the vocabulary and references as redundant.
