They answered Joshua, and said, “Because your servants were certainly told how Yahweh your God commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you. Therefore we were very afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.

And they answered H6030 (QalImpf) Joshua, H3091 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Because it was certainly H5046 (HophInf) told H5046 (HophPerf) thy servants, H5650 how that the Lord H3068 thy God H430 commanded H6680 (PielPerf) his servant H5650 Moses H4872 to give H5414 (QalInf) you all the land, H776 and to destroy H8045 (HiphInf) all the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of the land H776 from before H6440 you, therefore we were sore H3966 afraid H3372 (QalImpf) of our lives H5315 because H6440 of you, and have done H6213 (QalImpf) this thing. That day Joshua made them wood cutters and drawers of water for the congregation and for Yahweh’s altar to this day, in the place which he should choose.

Now when Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them,

ως δε ηκουσεν αδωνιβεζεκ βασιλευς ιερουσαλημ οτι ελαβεν ιησους την γαι και εξωλεθρευσεν αυτην ον τροπον εποιησαν την ιεριχω και τον βασιλεα αυτης ουτως εποιησαν την γαι και τον βασιλεα αυτης και οτι αυτομολησαν οι κατοικουντες γαβαων προς ιησουν και προς ισραηλ

“Come up to me and help me. Let’s strike Gibeon; for they have made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.”

δευτε αναβητε προς με και βοηθησατε μοι και εκπολεμησωμεν γαβαων αυτομολησαν γαρ προς ιησουν και προς τους υιους ισραηλ

The men of Gibeon sent to Joshua at the camp at Gilgal, saying, “Don’t abandon your servants! Come up to us quickly and save us! Help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill country have gathered together against us.”

και απεστειλαν οι κατοικουντες γαβαων προς ιησουν εις την παρεμβολην ισραηλ εις γαλγαλα λεγοντες μη εκλυσης τας χειρας σου απο των παιδων σου αναβηθι προς ημας το ταχος και εξελου ημας και βοηθησον ημιν οτι συνηγμενοι εισιν εφ ημας παντες οι βασιλεις των αμορραιων οι κατοικουντες την ορεινην

So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he and the whole army with him, including all the mighty men of valor.

και ανεβη ιησους εκ γαλγαλων αυτος και πας ο λαος ο πολεμιστης μετ αυτου πας δυνατος εν ισχυι

Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t fear them, for I have delivered them into your hands. Not a man of them will stand before you.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Joshua, H3091 Fear H3372 (QalImpf) them not: for I have delivered H5414 (QalPerf) them into thine hand; H3027 there shall not a man H376 of them stand H5975 (QalImpf) before H6440 thee.

Joshua therefore came to them suddenly. He marched from Gilgal all night.

Then Joshua spoke to Yahweh in the day when Yahweh delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel. He said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand still on Gibeon! You, moon, stop in the valley of Aijalon!”

τοτε ελαλησεν ιησους προς κυριον η ημερα παρεδωκεν ο θεος τον αμορραιον υποχειριον ισραηλ ηνικα συνετριψεν αυτους εν γαβαων και συνετριβησαν απο προσωπου υιων ισραηλ και ειπεν ιησους στητω ο ηλιος κατα γαβαων και η σεληνη κατα φαραγγα αιλων

Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp to Gilgal.

Joshua was told, saying, “The five kings have been found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah.”

Joshua said, “Roll large stones to cover the cave’s entrance, and set men by it to guard them;

και ειπεν ιησους κυλισατε λιθους επι το στομα του σπηλαιου και καταστησατε ανδρας φυλασσειν επ αυτους

When Joshua and the children of Israel had finished killing them with a very great slaughter until they were consumed, and the remnant which remained of them had entered into the fortified cities,

And it came to pass, when Joshua H3091 and the children H1121 of Israel H3478 had made an end H3615 (PielInf) of slaying H5221 (HiphInf) them with a very H3966 great H1419 slaughter, H4347 till they were consumed, H8552 (QalInf) that the rest H8300 which remained H8277 (QalPerf) of them entered H935 (QalImpf) into fenced H4013 cities. all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace. None moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.

Then Joshua said, “Open the cave entrance, and bring those five kings out of the cave to me.”

When they brought those kings out to Joshua, Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who went with him, “Come near. Put your feet on the necks of these kings.” They came near, and put their feet on their necks.

και επει εξηγαγον αυτους προς ιησουν και συνεκαλεσεν ιησους παντα ισραηλ και τους εναρχομενους του πολεμου τους συμπορευομενους αυτω λεγων αυτοις προπορευεσθε και επιθετε τους ποδας υμων επι τους τραχηλους αυτων και προσελθοντες επεθηκαν τους ποδας αυτων επι τους τραχηλους αυτων

Joshua said to them, “Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Be strong and courageous, for Yahweh will do this to all your enemies against whom you fight.”

And Joshua H3091 said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Fear H3372 (QalImpf) not, nor be dismayed, H2865 (NiphImpf) be strong H2388 (QalImpv) and of good courage: H553 (QalImpv) for thus shall the Lord H3068 do H6213 (QalImpf) to all your enemies H341 (QalActPtc) against whom ye fight. H3898 (NiphPtc)

Afterward Joshua struck them, put them to death, and hanged them on five trees. They were hanging on the trees until the evening.

And afterward H310 Joshua H3091 smote H5221 (HiphImpf) them, and slew H4191 (HiphImpf) them, and hanged H8518 (QalImpf) them on five H2568 trees: H6086 and they were hanging H8518 (QalPasPtc) upon the trees H6086 until the evening. H6153

At the time of the going down of the sun, Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and threw them into the cave in which they had hidden themselves, and laid great stones on the mouth of the cave, which remain to this very day.

Joshua took Makkedah on that day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with its king. He utterly destroyed it and all the souls who were in it. He left no one remaining. He did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.

And that day H3117 Joshua H3091 took H3920 (QalPerf) Makkedah, H4719 and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) it with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 and the king H4428 thereof he utterly destroyed, H2763 (HiphPerf) them, and all the souls H5315 that were therein; he let H7604 (HiphPerf) none remain: H8300 and he did H6213 (QalImpf) to the king H4428 of Makkedah H4719 as he did H6213 (QalPerf) unto the king H4428 of Jericho. και την μακηδα ελαβοσαν εν τη ημερα εκεινη και εφονευσαν αυτην εν στοματι ξιφους και εξωλεθρευσαν παν εμπνεον εν αυτη και ου κατελειφθη εν αυτη ουδεις διασεσωσμενος και διαπεφευγως και εποιησαν τω βασιλει μακηδα ον τροπον εποιησαν τω βασιλει ιεριχω

Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, to Libnah, and fought against Libnah.

Then Joshua H3091 passed H5674 (QalImpf) from Makkedah, H4719 and all Israel H3478 with him, unto Libnah, H3841 and fought H3898 (NiphImpf) against Libnah: H3841

Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, to Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it.

Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua struck him and his people, until he had left him no one remaining.

Joshua passed from Lachish, and all Israel with him, to Eglon; and they encamped against it and fought against it.

Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, to Hebron; and they fought against it.

So Joshua struck all the land, the hill country, the South, the lowland, the slopes, and all their kings. He left no one remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Yahweh, the God of Israel, commanded.

και επαταξεν ιησους πασαν την γην της ορεινης και την ναγεβ και την πεδινην και την ασηδωθ και τους βασιλεις αυτης ου κατελιπον αυτων σεσωσμενον και παν εμπνεον ζωης εξωλεθρευσεν ον τροπον ενετειλατο κυριος ο θεος ισραηλ

Joshua struck them from Kadesh Barnea even to Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even to Gibeon.

And Joshua H3091 smote H5221 (HiphImpf) them from Kadesh-barnea H6947 even unto Gaza, H5804 and all the country H776 of Goshen, H1657 even unto Gibeon. H1391

απο καδης βαρνη εως γαζης πασαν την γοσομ εως της γαβαων

Joshua took all these kings and their land at one time because Yahweh, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

And all these kings H4428 and their land H776 did Joshua H3091 take H3920 (QalPerf) at one H259 time, H6471 because the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel H3478 fought H3898 (NiphPtc) for Israel. H3478

και παντας τους βασιλεις αυτων και την γην αυτων επαταξεν ιησους εις απαξ οτι κυριος ο θεος ισραηλ συνεπολεμει τω ισραηλ

Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t be afraid because of them; for tomorrow at this time, I will deliver them up all slain before Israel. You shall hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Joshua, H3091 Be not afraid H3372 (QalImpf) because H6440 of them: for to morrow H4279 about this time H6256 will I deliver them up H5414 (QalActPtc) all slain H2491 before H6440 Israel: H3478 thou shalt hough H6131 (PielImpf) their horses, H5483 and burn H8313 (QalImpf) their chariots H4818 with fire. και ειπεν κυριος προς ιησουν μη φοβηθης απο προσωπου αυτων οτι αυριον ταυτην την ωραν εγω παραδιδωμι τετροπωμενους αυτους εναντιον του ισραηλ τους ιππους αυτων νευροκοπησεις και τα αρματα αυτων κατακαυσεις εν πυρι

So Joshua came suddenly, with all the warriors, against them by the waters of Merom, and attacked them.

So Joshua H3091 came, H935 (QalImpf) and all the people H5971 of war H4421 with him, against them by the waters H4325 of Merom H4792 suddenly; H6597 and they fell upon H5307 (QalImpf) them.

Joshua did to them as Yahweh told him. He hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots with fire.

And Joshua H3091 did H6213 (QalImpf) unto them as the Lord H3068 bade H559 (QalPerf) him: he houghed H6131 (PielPerf) their horses, H5483 and burnt H8313 (QalPerf) their chariots H4818 with fire. H784

Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and struck its king with the sword; for Hazor used to be the head of all those kingdoms.

Joshua captured all the cities of those kings, with their kings, and he struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them, as Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded.

And all the cities H5892 of those kings, H4428 and all the kings H4428 of them, did Joshua H3091 take, H3920 (QalPerf) and smote H5221 (HiphImpf) them with the edge H6310 of the sword, H2719 and he utterly destroyed H2763 (HiphPerf) them, as Moses H4872 the servant H5650 of the Lord H3068 commanded. But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, except Hazor only. Joshua burned that.

But as for the cities H5892 that stood H5975 (QalActPtc) still in their strength,^§ H8510 Israel H3478 burned H8313 (QalPerf) none of them, save H2108 Hazor H2674 only; that did Joshua H3091 burn. H8313 (QalPerf)

αλλα πασας τας πολεις τας κεχωματισμενας ουκ ενεπρησεν ισραηλ πλην ασωρ μονην ενεπρησεν ιησους

As Yahweh commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua. Joshua did so. He left nothing undone of all that Yahweh commanded Moses.

So Joshua captured all that land, the hill country, all the South, all the land of Goshen, the lowland, the Arabah, the hill country of Israel, and the lowland of the same,

και ελαβεν ιησους πασαν την γην την ορεινην και πασαν την ναγεβ και πασαν την γην γοσομ και την πεδινην και την προς δυσμαις και το ορος ισραηλ και τα ταπεινα

Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

και πλειους ημερας εποιησεν ιησους προς τους βασιλεις τουτους τον πολεμον

So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Yahweh spoke to Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. Then the land had rest from war.

και ελαβεν ιησους πασαν την γην καθοτι ενετειλατο κυριος τω μωυση και εδωκεν αυτους ιησους εν κληρονομια ισραηλ εν μερισμω κατα φυλας αυτων και η γη κατεπαυσεν πολεμουμενη

και ουτοι οι βασιλεις των αμορραιων ους ανειλεν ιησους και οι υιοι ισραηλ εν τω περαν του ιορδανου παρα θαλασσαν βααλγαδ εν τω πεδιω του λιβανου και εως του ορους χελχα αναβαινοντων εις σηιρ και εδωκεν αυτην ιησους ταις φυλαις ισραηλ κληρονομειν κατα κληρον αυτων

Now Joshua was old and well advanced in years. Yahweh said to him, “You are old and advanced in years, and there remains yet very much land to be possessed.

These are the inheritances which the children of Israel took in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the children of Israel, distributed to them,

και προσηλθοσαν οι υιοι ιουδα προς ιησουν εν γαλγαλ και ειπεν προς αυτον χαλεβ ο του ιεφοννη ο κενεζαιος συ επιστη το ρημα ο ελαλησεν κυριος προς μωυσην ανθρωπον του θεου περι εμου και σου εν καδης βαρνη

Joshua blessed him; and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.

He gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh a portion among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of Yahweh to Joshua, even Kiriath Arba, named after the father of Anak (also called Hebron).

και τω χαλεβ υιω ιεφοννη εδωκεν μεριδα εν μεσω υιων ιουδα δια προσταγματος του θεου και εδωκεν αυτω ιησους την πολιν αρβοκ μητροπολιν ενακ αυτη εστιν χεβρων

They came to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the princes, saying, “Yahweh commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers.” Therefore according to the commandment of Yahweh he gave them an inheritance among the brothers of their father.

The children of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, “Why have you given me just one lot and one part for an inheritance, since we are a numerous people, because Yahweh has blessed us so far?”
