he sent Hadoram his son to King David to greet him and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him (for Hadadezer had wars with Tou); and he had with him all kinds of vessels of gold and silver and bronze.

and he sendeth Hadoram his son unto king David, to ask of him of peace, and to bless him (because that he hath fought against Hadarezer, and smiteth him, for a man of wars with Tou had Hadarezer been,) and all kinds of vessels, of gold, and silver, and brass;

King David also dedicated these to Yahweh, with the silver and the gold that he carried away from all the nations: from Edom, from Moab, from the children of Ammon, from the Philistines, and from Amalek.

also them hath king David sanctified to Jehovah with the silver and the gold that he hath taken from all the nations, from Edom, and from Moab, and from the sons of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.

He put garrisons in Edom; and all the Edomites became servants to David. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went.

And he put H7760 (QalImpf) garrisons H5333 in Edom; H123 and all the Edomites H123 became David’s H1732 servants. H5650 Thus the Lord H3068 preserved H3467 (HiphImpf) David H1732 whithersoever he went. H1980 (QalPerf)

and he putteth in Edom garrisons, and all the Edomites are servants to David; and Jehovah saveth David whithersoever he hath gone.

Then some people went and told David how the men were treated. He sent to meet them; for the men were greatly humiliated. The king said, “Stay at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”

And he sent H7971 (QalImpf) to meet H7125 (QalInf) them: for the men H582 were greatly H3966 ashamed. And some go, and declare to David concerning the men, and he sendeth to meet them-for the men have been greatly ashamed-and the king saith, ‘Dwell in Jericho till that your beard is grown, then ye have returned.’

The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the gate of the city; and the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.

And the children H1121 of Ammon H5983 came out, H3318 (QalImpf) and put the battle H4421 in array H6186 (QalImpf) before the gate H6607 of the city: H5892 and the kings H4428 that were come H935 (QalPerf) [were] by themselves in the field. H7704

and the sons of Ammon come out and set battle in array at the opening of the city, and the kings who have come are by themselves in the field.

So Joab and the people who were with him came near to the front of the Syrians to the battle; and they fled before him.

So Joab H3097 and the people H5971 that [were] with him drew nigh H5066 (QalImpf) before H6440 the Syrians H758 unto the battle; H4421 and they fled H5127 (QalImpf) before H6440 him.

And Joab draweth nigh, and the people who are with him, before Aram to battle, and they flee from his face;

When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they sent messengers and called out the Syrians who were beyond the River,^§ with Shophach the captain of the army of Hadadezer leading them.

And when the Syrians H758 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that they were put to the worse H5062 (NiphPerf) before H6440 Israel, H3478 they sent H7971 (QalImpf) messengers, H4397 and drew forth H3318 (HiphImpf) the Syrians H758 that [were] beyond H5676 the river: H5104 and Shophach H7780 the captain H8269 of the host H6635 of Hadarezer H1928 [went] before H6440 them.

And Aram seeth that they have been smitten before Israel, and send messengers, and bring out Aram that is beyond the River, and Shophach head of the host of Hadarezer is before them.

He brought out the people who were in it, and had them cut with saws, with iron picks, and with axes. David did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

and the people who are in it he hath brought out, and setteth to the saw, and to cutting instruments of iron, and to axes; and thus doth David to all cities of the sons of Ammon, and David turneth back, and all the people, to Jerusalem.

David said to God, “Isn’t it I who commanded the people to be counted? It is even I who have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let your hand, O Yahweh my God, be against me and against my father’s house; but not against your people, that they should be plagued.”

And David H1732 said H559 (QalImpf) unto God, H430 [Is it] not I [that] commanded H559 (QalPerf) the people H5971 to be numbered? And David saith unto God, ‘Did not I-I say to number the people? Yea, I it is who have sinned, and done great evil: and these, the flock, what did they? O Jehovah, my God, let, I pray Thee, Thy hand be on me, and on the house of my father, and not on Thy people-to be plagued.’

David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spoke in Yahweh’s name.

And David H1732 went up H5927 (QalImpf) at the saying H1697 of Gad, H1410 which he spake H1696 (PielPerf) in the name H8034 of the Lord. H3068

And David goeth up by the word of Gad, that he spake in the name of Jehovah.

King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will most certainly buy it for the full price. For I will not take that which is yours for Yahweh, nor offer a burnt offering that costs me nothing.”

And king H4428 David H1732 said H559 (QalImpf) to Ornan, H771 Nay; but I will verily H7069 (QalInf) buy H7069 (QalImpf) it for the full H4392 price: H3701 for I will not take H5375 (QalImpf) [that] which [is] thine for the Lord, H3068 nor offer H5927 (HiphInf) burnt offerings H5930 without cost. And king David saith to Ornan, ‘Nay, for I surely buy for full silver; for I do not lift up that which is thine to Jehovah, so as to offer a burnt-offering without cost.’

For Yahweh’s tabernacle, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon.

For the tabernacle H4908 of the Lord, H3068 which Moses H4872 made H6213 (QalPerf) in the wilderness, H4057 and the altar H4196 of the burnt offering, H5930 [were] at that season H6256 in the high place H1116 at Gibeon. H1391

and the tabernacle of Jehovah that Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt-offering, are at that time in a high place, in Gibeon;

David gave orders to gather together the foreigners who were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to cut dressed stones to build God’s house.

And David H1732 commanded H559 (QalImpf) to gather together H3664 (QalInf) the strangers H1616 that [were] in the land H776 of Israel; H3478 and he set H5975 (HiphImpf) masons H2672 (QalActPtc) to hew H2672 (QalInf) wrought H1496 stones H68 to build H1129 (QalInf) the house H1004 of God. H430

And David saith to gather the sojourners who are in the land of Israel, and appointeth hewers to hew hewn-stones to build a house of God.

Then you will prosper, if you observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which Yahweh gave Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid and don’t be dismayed.

Then shalt thou prosper, H6743 (HiphImpf) if thou takest heed H8104 (QalImpf) to fulfil H6213 (QalInf) the statutes H2706 and judgments H4941 which the Lord H3068 charged H6680 (PielPerf) Moses H4872 with concerning Israel: H3478 be strong, H2388 (QalImpv) and of good courage; H553 (QalImpv) dread H3372 (QalImpf) not, nor be dismayed. then thou dost prosper, if thou dost observe to do the statutes and the judgments that Jehovah charged Moses with concerning Israel; be strong and courageous; do not fear, nor be cast down.

four thousand were doorkeepers, and four thousand praised Yahweh with the instruments which I made for giving praise.”

Moreover four H702 thousand H505 [were] porters; H7778 and four H702 thousand H505 praised H1984 (PielPtc) the Lord H3068 with the instruments H3627 which I made, H6213 (QalPerf) [said David], to praise H1984 (PielInf) [therewith].

and four thousand gatekeepers, and four thousand giving praise to Jehovah, ‘with instruments that I made for praising,’ saith David.

This Shelomoth and his brothers were over all the treasuries of the dedicated things, which David the king, and the heads of the fathers’ households, the captains over thousands and hundreds, and the captains of the army, had dedicated.

All these were the rulers of the property which was King David’s.

and over the flock is Jaziz the Hagerite; all these are heads of the substance that king David hath.

and give to Solomon my son a perfect heart, to keep your commandments, your testimonies, and your statutes, and to do all these things, and to build the palace, for which I have made provision.”

and to Solomon my son give a perfect heart, to keep Thy commands, Thy testimonies, and Thy statutes, and to do the whole, even to build the palace for which I have prepared.’

Yahweh magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel, and gave to him such royal majesty as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

And the Lord H3068 magnified H1431 (PielImpf) Solomon H8010 exceedingly H4605 in the sight H5869 of all Israel, H3478 and bestowed H5414 (QalImpf) upon him [such] royal H4438 majesty H1935 as had not been on any king H4428 before H6440 him in Israel. H3478

and Jehovah maketh Solomon exceedingly great before the eyes of all Israel, and putteth upon him the honour of the kingdom that hath not been on any king over Israel before him.

The time that he reigned over Israel was forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem.

and the days that he hath reigned over Israel are forty years; in Hebron he reigned seven years, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three;

with all his reign and his might, and the events that involved him, Israel, and all the kingdoms of the lands.

With all his reign H4438 and his might, H1369 and the times H6256 that went over H5674 (QalPerf) him, and over Israel, H3478 and over all the kingdoms H4467 of the countries. H776

Then Solomon, and all the assembly with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for God’s Tent of Meeting was there, which Yahweh’s servant Moses had made in the wilderness.

So Solomon, H8010 and all the congregation H6951 with him, went H3212 (QalImpf) to the high place H1116 that [was] at Gibeon; H1391 for there was the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 of God, H430 which Moses H4872 the servant H5650 of the Lord H3068 had made H6213 (QalPerf) in the wilderness. and they go-Solomon, and all the assembly with him-to the high place that is in Gibeon, for there hath been God’s tent of meeting, that Moses, servant of Jehovah, made in the wilderness,

Moreover the bronze altar that Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made was there before Yahweh’s tabernacle; and Solomon and the assembly were seeking counsel there.

Moreover the brasen H5178 altar, H4196 that Bezaleel H1212 the son H1121 of Uri, H221 the son H1121 of Hur, H2354 had made, H6213 (QalPerf) he put H7760 (QalPerf) before H6440 the tabernacle H4908 of the Lord: H3068 and Solomon H8010 and the congregation H6951 sought H1875 (QalImpf) unto it.

and the altar of brass that Bezaleel son of Uri, son of Hur made, he put before the tabernacle of Jehovah; and Solomon and the assembly seek to it.

Solomon went up there to the bronze altar before Yahweh, which was at the Tent of Meeting, and offered one thousand burnt offerings on it.

And Solomon H8010 went up H5927 (HiphImpf) thither to the brasen H5178 altar H4196 before H6440 the Lord, H3068 which [was] at the tabernacle H168 of the congregation, H4150 and offered H5927 (HiphImpf) a thousand H505 burnt offerings H5930 upon it.

And Solomon goeth up thither, on the altar of brass, before Jehovah, that is at the tent of meeting, and causeth to ascend upon it a thousand burnt-offerings.

God said to Solomon, “Because this was in your heart, and you have not asked riches, wealth, honor, or the life of those who hate you, nor yet have you asked for long life; but have asked for wisdom and knowledge for yourself, that you may judge my people, over whom I have made you king,

And God saith to Solomon, ‘Because that this hath been with thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, and honour, and the life of those hating thee, and also many days hast not asked, and dost ask for thyself wisdom and knowledge, so that thou dost judge My people over which I have caused thee to reign-

therefore wisdom and knowledge is granted to you. I will give you riches, wealth, and honor, such as none of the kings have had who have been before you, and none after you will have.”

Wisdom H2451 and knowledge H4093 [is] granted H5414 (QalPasPtc) unto thee; and I will give H5414 (QalImpf) thee riches, H6239 and wealth, H5233 and honour, H3519 such as none of the kings H4428 have had that [have been] before H6440 thee, neither shall there any after H310 thee have the like.

the wisdom and the knowledge is given to thee, and riches and wealth and honour I give to thee, that there hath not been so to the kings who are before thee, and after thee it is not so.’

So Solomon came from the high place that was at Gibeon, from before the Tent of Meeting, to Jerusalem; and he reigned over Israel.

Then Solomon H8010 came H935 (QalImpf) [from his journey] to the high place H1116 that [was] at Gibeon H1391 to Jerusalem, H3389 from before H6440 the tabernacle H168 of the congregation, H4150 and reigned H4427 (QalImpf) over Israel. H3478

And Solomon cometh in from the high place that is in Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tent of meeting, and reigneth over Israel,

“The house which I am building will be great, for our God is greater than all gods.

And the house H1004 which I build H1129 (QalActPtc) [is] great: H1419 for great H1419 [is] our God H430 above all gods. H430

‘And the house that I am building is great, for greater is our God than all gods;

“Now therefore send me a man skillful to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in iron, and in purple, crimson, and blue, and who knows how to engrave engravings, to be with the skillful men who are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father provided.

‘And now, send to me a wise man to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and knowing to grave gravings with the wise men who are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father prepared;

even to prepare me timber in abundance; for the house which I am about to build will be great and wonderful.

Huram continued, “Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, endowed with discretion and understanding, who would build a house for Yahweh and a house for his kingdom.

And Huram saith, ‘Blessed is Jehovah, God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth, who hath given to David the king a wise son, knowing wisdom and understanding, who doth build a house for Jehovah, and a house for his kingdom.

the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan; and his father was a man of Tyre. He is skillful to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in iron, in stone, in timber, in purple, in blue, in fine linen, and in crimson, also to engrave any kind of engraving and to devise any device, that there may be a place appointed to him with your skillful men, and with the skillful men of my lord David your father.

“Now therefore, the wheat, the barley, the oil, and the wine which my lord has spoken of, let him send to his servants;

Solomon counted all the foreigners who were in the land of Israel, after the census with which David his father had counted them; and they found one hundred fifty-three thousand six hundred.

Then Solomon began to build Yahweh’s house at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where Yahweh appeared to David his father, which he prepared in the place that David had appointed, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

And Solomon beginneth to build the house of Jehovah, in Jerusalem, in the mount of Moriah, where He appeared to David his father, in the place that David had prepared, in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite,

The porch that was in front, its length, across the width of the house, was twenty cubits, and the height one hundred twenty; and he overlaid it within with pure gold.

As to the porch that is on the front, the length is by the front of the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the height a hundred and twenty, and he overlayeth it within with pure gold.

the two pillars, the bowls, the two capitals which were on the top of the pillars, the two networks to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the top of the pillars,

two pillars, and the bowls, and the crowns on the heads of the two pillars, and the two wreaths to cover the two bowls of the crowns that are on the heads of the pillars;

and the four hundred pomegranates for the two networks—two rows of pomegranates for each network, to cover the two bowls of the capitals that were on the pillars.

and the pomegranates four hundred to the two wreaths, two rows of pomegranates to the one wreath, to cover the two bowls of the crowns that are on the front of the pillars.

They brought up the ark, the Tent of Meeting, and all the holy vessels that were in the Tent. The Levitical priests brought these up.

and they bring up the ark, and the tent of meeting, and all the vessels of the sanctuary that are in the tent; brought them up have the priests, the Levites;

There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets which Moses put there at Horeb, when Yahweh made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt.

[There was] nothing in the ark H727 save the two H8147 tables H3871 which Moses H4872 put H5414 (QalPerf) [therein] at Horeb, H2722 when the Lord H3068 made H3772 (QalPerf) [a covenant] with the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 when they came out H3318 (QalInf) of Egypt. H4714

There is nothing in the ark but the two tables that Moses gave in Horeb, where Jehovah covenanted with the sons of Israel, in their going out from Egypt.

He said, “Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, who spoke with his mouth to David my father, and has with his hands fulfilled it, saying,

And he said, H559 (QalImpf) Blessed H1288 (QalPasPtc) [be] the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 who hath with his hands H3027 fulfilled H4390 (PielPerf) [that] which he spake H1696 (PielPerf) with his mouth H6310 to my father H1 David, H1732 saying, H559 (QalInf)

and he saith, ‘Blessed is Jehovah, God of Israel, who hath spoken with His mouth with David my father, and with His hands hath fulfilled it, saying:

But Yahweh said to David my father, ‘Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart;

But the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) to David H1732 my father, H1 Forasmuch as it was in thine heart H3824 to build H1129 (QalInf) an house H1004 for my name, H8034 thou didst well H2895 (HiphPerf) in that it was in thine heart: H3824

and Jehovah saith unto David my father, Because that it hath been with thy heart to build a house for My name, thou hast done well that it hath been with thy heart,

“Yahweh has performed his word that he spoke; for I have risen up in the place of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised, and have built the house for the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel.

The Lord H3068 therefore hath performed H6965 (HiphImpf) his word H1697 that he hath spoken: H1696 (PielPerf) for I am risen up H6965 (QalImpf) in the room of David H1732 my father, H1 and am set H3427 (QalImpf) on the throne H3678 of Israel, H3478 as the Lord H3068 promised, H1696 (PielPerf) and have built H1129 (QalImpf) the house H1004 for the name H8034 of the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel. H3478

‘And Jehovah doth establish His word that He spake, and I rise up in the stead of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovah spake, and I build the house for the name of Jehovah, God of Israel,

There I have set the ark, in which is Yahweh’s covenant, which he made with the children of Israel.”

And in it H8033 have I put H7760 (QalImpf) the ark, H727 wherein [is] the covenant H1285 of the Lord, H3068 that he made H3772 (QalPerf) with the children H1121 of Israel. H3478

and I place there the ark, where is the covenant of Jehovah that He made with the sons of Israel.’

who have kept with your servant David my father that which you promised him. Yes, you spoke with your mouth, and have fulfilled it with your hand, as it is today.

Thou which hast kept H8104 (QalPerf) with thy servant H5650 David H1732 my father H1 that which thou hast promised H1696 (PielPerf) him; and spakest H1696 (PielImpf) with thy mouth, H6310 and hast fulfilled H4390 (PielPerf) [it] with thine hand, H3027 as [it is] this day. H3117

who hast kept for Thy servant David my father that which Thou didst speak to him; yea, Thou dost speak with Thy mouth, and with Thy hand hast fulfilled it, as at this day.

“Now therefore, Yahweh, the God of Israel, keep with your servant David my father that which you have promised him, saying, ‘There shall not fail you a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only your children take heed to their way, to walk in my law as you have walked before me.’

Now therefore, O Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 keep H8104 (QalImpv) with thy servant H5650 David H1732 my father H1 that which thou hast promised H1696 (PielPerf) him, saying, H559 (QalInf) There shall not fail H3772 (NiphImpf) thee a man H376 in my sight H6440 to sit H3427 (QalActPtc) upon the throne H3678 of Israel; H3478 yet so H7535 that thy children H1121 take heed H8104 (QalImpf) to their way H1870 to walk H3212 (QalInf) in my law, H8451 as thou hast walked H1980 (QalPerf) before H6440 me.

‘And now, O Jehovah, God of Israel, keep for Thy servant David my father that which Thou didst speak to him, saying, There is not cut off to thee a man from before Me, sitting on the throne of Israel, only, if thy sons watch their way to walk in My law, as thou hast walked before Me.

Now therefore, Yahweh, the God of Israel, let your word be verified, which you spoke to your servant David.

Now then, O Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 let thy word H1697 be verified, H539 (NiphImpf) which thou hast spoken H1696 (PielPerf) unto thy servant H5650 David. H1732

‘And now, O Jehovah, God of Israel, is Thy word stedfast that Thou hast spoken to Thy servant, to David,

“But will God indeed dwell with men on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain you; how much less this house which I have built!

But will God H430 in very deed H552 dwell H3427 (QalImpf) with men H120 on the earth? H776 behold, heaven H8064 and the heaven H8064 of heavens H8064 cannot contain H3557 (PilpImpf) thee; how much less this house H1004 which I have built! H1129 (QalPerf)

(for is it true?-God dwelleth with man on the earth! Lo, the heavens, and the heavens of the heavens, do not contain Thee, how much less this house that I have built?)

Yet have respect for the prayer of your servant and to his supplication, Yahweh my God, to listen to the cry and to the prayer which your servant prays before you;

Have respect H6437 (QalPerf) therefore to the prayer H8605 of thy servant, H5650 and to his supplication, H8467 O Lord H3068 my God, H430 to hearken H8085 (QalInf) unto the cry H7440 and the prayer H8605 which thy servant H5650 prayeth H6419 (HithPtc) before H6440 thee:

‘And Thou hast turned unto the prayer of Thy servant, and unto his supplication, O Jehovah my God, to hearken unto the cry and unto the prayer that Thy servant is praying before Thee,

that your eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place where you have said that you would put your name, to listen to the prayer which your servant will pray toward this place.

That thine eyes H5869 may be open H6605 (QalPasPtc) upon this house H1004 day H3119 and night, H3915 upon the place H4725 whereof thou hast said H559 (QalPerf) that thou wouldest put H7760 (QalInf) thy name H8034 there; to hearken H8085 (QalInf) unto the prayer H8605 which thy servant H5650 prayeth H6419 (HithImpf) toward this place. for Thine eyes being open towards this house by day and by night, towards the place that Thou hast said to put Thy name there, to hearken unto the prayer that Thy servant prayeth towards this place.
