Yahweh said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?

Moses said, “This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded, ‘Let an omer-full of it be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’ ”

Moses said to Aaron, “Take a pot, and put an omer-full of manna in it, and lay it up before Yahweh, to be kept throughout your generations.”

Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?”

The people were thirsty for water there; so the people murmured against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”

Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, “What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”

Yahweh said to Moses, “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.

και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην προπορευου του λαου τουτου λαβε δε μετα σεαυτου απο των πρεσβυτερων του λαου και την ραβδον εν η επαταξας τον ποταμον λαβε εν τη χειρι σου και πορευση

He called the name of the place Massah,° and Meribah,° because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested Yahweh, saying, “Is Yahweh among us, or not?”

οτι εν χειρι κρυφαια πολεμει κυριος επι αμαληκ απο γενεων εις γενεας

and her two sons. The name of one son was Gershom,° for Moses said, “I have lived as a foreigner in a foreign land”.

Exodus 18:3 “Gershom” sounds like the Hebrew for “an alien there”.

When Moses’ father-in-law saw all that he did to the people, he said, “What is this thing that you do for the people? Why do you sit alone, and all the people stand around you from morning to evening?”

Moses said to his father-in-law, “Because the people come to me to inquire of God.

Moses’ father-in-law said to him, “The thing that you do is not good.

So Moses listened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did all that he had said.

ηκουσεν δε μωυσης της φωνης του γαμβρου και εποιησεν οσα αυτω ειπεν

Moses went up to God, and Yahweh called to him out of the mountain, saying, “This is what you shall tell the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:

All the people answered together, and said, “All that Yahweh has spoken we will do.” Moses reported the words of the people to Yahweh.

απεκριθη δε πας ο λαος ομοθυμαδον και ειπαν παντα οσα ειπεν ο θεος ποιησομεν και ακουσομεθα ανηνεγκεν δε μωυσης τους λογους του λαου προς τον θεον

Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever.” Moses told the words of the people to Yahweh.

Yahweh said to Moses, “Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments,

ειπεν δε κυριος προς μωυσην καταβας διαμαρτυραι τω λαω και αγνισον αυτους σημερον και αυριον και πλυνατωσαν τα ιματια

You shall set bounds to the people all around, saying, ‘Be careful that you don’t go up onto the mountain, or touch its border. Whoever touches the mountain shall be surely put to death.

He said to the people, “Be ready by the third day. Don’t have sexual relations with a woman.”

Exodus 19:21 Heb. contest

και ειπεν ο θεος προς μωυσην λεγων καταβας διαμαρτυραι τω λαω μηποτε εγγισωσιν προς τον θεον κατανοησαι και πεσωσιν εξ αυτων πληθος

Moses said to Yahweh, “The people can’t come up to Mount Sinai, for you warned us, saying, ‘Set bounds around the mountain, and sanctify it.’ ”

Yahweh said to him, “Go down! You shall bring Aaron up with you, but don’t let the priests and the people break through to come up to Yahweh, lest he break out against them.”

So Moses went down to the people, and told them.

κατεβη δε μωυσης προς τον λαον και ειπεν αυτοις

God^§ spoke all these words, saying,

Moses said to the people, “Don’t be afraid, for God has come to test you, and that his fear may be before you, that you won’t sin.”

Yahweh said to Moses, “This is what you shall tell the children of Israel: ‘You yourselves have seen that I have talked with you from heaven.

But if the servant shall plainly say, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I will not go out free;’

Exodus 21:5 Heb. saying shall say

For every matter of trespass, whether it is for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for clothing, or for any kind of lost thing, about which one says, ‘This is mine,’ the cause of both parties shall come before God. He whom God condemns shall pay double to his neighbor.

He took the book of the covenant and read it in the hearing of the people, and they said, “We will do all that Yahweh has said, and be obedient.”

και λαβων το βιβλιον της διαθηκης ανεγνω εις τα ωτα του λαου και ειπαν παντα οσα ελαλησεν κυριος ποιησομεν και ακουσομεθα

Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, “Look, this is the blood of the covenant, which Yahweh has made with you concerning all these words.”

And Moses H4872 took H3947 (QalImpf) the blood, H1818 and sprinkled H2236 (QalImpf) it on the people, H5971 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Behold the blood H1818 of the covenant, H1285 which the Lord H3068 hath made H3772 (QalPerf) with you concerning all these words. H1697

λαβων δε μωυσης το αιμα κατεσκεδασεν του λαου και ειπεν ιδου το αιμα της διαθηκης ης διεθετο κυριος προς υμας περι παντων των λογων τουτων

Yahweh said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the stone tablets with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Come up H5927 (QalImpv) to me into the mount, H2022 and be there: and I will give H5414 (QalImpf) thee tables H3871 of stone, H68 and a law, H8451 and commandments H4687 which I have written; H3789 (QalPerf) that thou mayest teach H3384 (HiphInf) them.

και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην αναβηθι προς με εις το ορος και ισθι εκει και δωσω σοι τα πυξια τα λιθινα τον νομον και τας εντολας ας εγραψα νομοθετησαι αυτοις

He said to the elders, “Wait here for us, until we come again to you. Behold, Aaron and Hur are with you. Whoever is involved in a dispute can go to them.”

και τοις πρεσβυτεροις ειπαν ησυχαζετε αυτου εως αναστρεψωμεν προς υμας και ιδου ααρων και ωρ μεθ υμων εαν τινι συμβη κρισις προσπορευεσθωσαν αυτοις

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

You shall speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘This shall be a holy anointing oil to me throughout your generations.

And thou shalt speak H1696 (PielImpf) unto the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 saying, H559 (QalInf) This shall be an holy H6944 anointing H4888 oil H8081 unto me throughout your generations. H1755

και τοις υιοις ισραηλ λαλησεις λεγων ελαιον αλειμμα χρισεως αγιον εσται τουτο υμιν εις τας γενεας υμων

Yahweh said to Moses, “Take to yourself sweet spices, gum resin, onycha, and galbanum: sweet spices with pure frankincense. There shall be an equal weight of each.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Take H3947 (QalImpv) unto thee sweet spices, H5561 stacte, H5198 and onycha, H7827 and galbanum; H2464 these sweet H5561 spices H5561 with pure H2134 frankincense: H3828 of each H905 shall there be a like H905 weight:
