Exodus 16 (WEBP)
[1] They took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
[2] The whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness;
[3] and the children of Israel said to them, “We wish that we had died by Yahweh’s hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots, when we ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”
[4] Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from the sky for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not.
[5] It shall come to pass on the sixth day, that they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.”
[6] Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, “At evening, you shall know that Yahweh has brought you out from the land of Egypt.
[7] In the morning, you shall see Yahweh’s glory; because he hears your murmurings against Yahweh. Who are we, that you murmur against us?”
[8] Moses said, “Now Yahweh will give you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to satisfy you, because Yahweh hears your murmurings which you murmur against him. And who are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against Yahweh.”
[9] Moses said to Aaron, “Tell all the congregation of the children of Israel, ‘Come close to Yahweh, for he has heard your murmurings.’ ”
[10] As Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, Yahweh’s glory appeared in the cloud.
[11] Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
[12] “I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, ‘At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. Then you will know that I am Yahweh your God.’ ”
[13] In the evening, quail came up and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay around the camp.
[14] When the dew that lay had gone, behold, on the surface of the wilderness was a small round thing, small as the frost on the ground.
[15] When the children of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they didn’t know what it was. Moses said to them, “It is the bread which Yahweh has given you to eat.
[16] This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded: ‘Gather of it everyone according to his eating; an omer° a head, according to the number of your persons, you shall take it, every man for those who are in his tent.’ ”
[17] The children of Israel did so, and some gathered more, some less.
[18] When they measured it with an omer, he who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack. They each gathered according to his eating.
[19] Moses said to them, “Let no one leave of it until the morning.”
[20] Notwithstanding they didn’t listen to Moses, but some of them left of it until the morning, so it bred worms and became foul; and Moses was angry with them.
[21] They gathered it morning by morning, everyone according to his eating. When the sun grew hot, it melted.
[22] On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one; and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
[23] He said to them, “This is that which Yahweh has spoken, ‘Tomorrow is a solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to Yahweh. Bake that which you want to bake, and boil that which you want to boil; and all that remains over lay up for yourselves to be kept until the morning.’ ”
[24] They laid it up until the morning, as Moses ordered, and it didn’t become foul, and there were no worms in it.
[25] Moses said, “Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to Yahweh. Today you shall not find it in the field.
[26] Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day is the Sabbath. In it there shall be none.”
[27] On the seventh day, some of the people went out to gather, and they found none.
[28] Yahweh said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?
[29] Behold, because Yahweh has given you the Sabbath, therefore he gives you on the sixth day the bread of two days. Everyone stay in his place. Let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.”
[30] So the people rested on the seventh day.
[31] The house of Israel called its name “Manna”,° and it was like coriander seed, white; and its taste was like wafers with honey.
[32] Moses said, “This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded, ‘Let an omer-full of it be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of the land of Egypt.’ ”
[33] Moses said to Aaron, “Take a pot, and put an omer-full of manna in it, and lay it up before Yahweh, to be kept throughout your generations.”
[34] As Yahweh commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.
[35] The children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land. They ate the manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.
[36] Now an omer is one tenth of an ephah.°
Exodus 16:16 An omer is about 2.2 liters or about 2.3 quarts
Exodus 16:31 “Manna” means “What is it?”
Exodus 16:36 1 ephah is about 22 liters or about 2/3 of a bushel

Exodus 16 (KJVS)
[1] And they took their journey H5265 (8799) from Elim H362, and all the congregation H5712 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 came H935 (8799) unto the wilderness H4057 of Sin H5512, which [is] between Elim H362 and Sinai H5514, on the fifteenth H2568 H6240 day H3117 of the second H8145 month H2320 after their departing out H3318 (8800) of the land H776 of Egypt H4714.
[2] And the whole congregation H5712 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 murmured H3885 (8735) against Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 in the wilderness H4057:
[3] And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 said H559 (8799) unto them, Would to God H4310 H5414 (8799) we had died H4191 (8800) by the hand H3027 of the LORD H3068 in the land H776 of Egypt H4714, when we sat H3427 (8800) by the flesh H1320 pots H5518, [and] when we did eat H398 (8800) bread H3899 to the full H7648; for ye have brought us forth H3318 (8689) into this wilderness H4057, to kill H4191 (8687) this whole assembly H6951 with hunger H7458.
[4] Then said H559 (8799) the LORD H3068 unto Moses H4872, Behold, I will rain H4305 (8688) bread H3899 from heaven H8064 for you; and the people H5971 shall go out H3318 (8804) and gather H3950 (8804) a certain rate H1697 every day H3117 H3117, that I may prove H5254 (8762) them, whether they will walk H3212 (8799) in my law H8451, or no.
[5] And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth H8345 day H3117 they shall prepare H3559 (8689) [that] which H834 they bring in H935 (8686); and it shall be twice H4932 as much as they gather H3950 (8799) daily H3117 H3117.
[6] And Moses H4872 and Aaron H175 said H559 (8799) unto all the children H1121 of Israel H3478, At even H6153, then ye shall know H3045 (8804) that the LORD H3068 hath brought you out H3318 (8689) from the land H776 of Egypt H4714:
[7] And in the morning H1242, then ye shall see H7200 (8804) the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068; for that he heareth H8085 (8800) your murmurings H8519 against the LORD H3068: and what [are] we H5168, that ye murmur H3885 (8686) (8675) H3885 (8735) against us?
[8] And Moses H4872 said H559 (8799), [This shall be], when the LORD H3068 shall give H5414 (8800) you in the evening H6153 flesh H1320 to eat H398 (8800), and in the morning H1242 bread H3899 to the full H7646 (8800); for that the LORD H3068 heareth H8085 (8800) your murmurings H8519 which ye murmur H3885 (8688) against him: and what [are] we H5168? your murmurings H8519 [are] not against us, but against the LORD H3068.
[9] And Moses H4872 spake H559 (8799) unto Aaron H175, Say H559 (8798) unto all the congregation H5712 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478, Come near H7126 (8798) before H6440 the LORD H3068: for he hath heard H8085 (8804) your murmurings H8519.
[10] And it came to pass, as Aaron H175 spake H1696 (8763) unto the whole congregation H5712 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478, that they looked H6437 (8799) toward the wilderness H4057, and, behold, the glory H3519 of the LORD H3068 appeared H7200 (8738) in the cloud H6051.
[11] And the LORD H3068 spake H1696 (8762) unto Moses H4872, saying H559 (8800),
[12] I have heard H8085 (8804) the murmurings H8519 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478: speak H1696 (8761) unto them, saying H559 (8800), At even H996 H6153 ye shall eat H398 (8799) flesh H1320, and in the morning H1242 ye shall be filled H7646 (8799) with bread H3899; and ye shall know H3045 (8804) that I [am] the LORD H3068 your God H430.
[13] And it came to pass, that at even H6153 the quails H7958 came up H5927 (8799), and covered H3680 (8762) the camp H4264: and in the morning H1242 the dew H2919 lay H7902 round about H5439 the host H4264.
[14] And when the dew H2919 that lay H7902 was gone up H5927 (8799), behold, upon the face H6440 of the wilderness H4057 [there lay] a small H1851 round thing H2636 (8794), [as] small H1851 as the hoar frost H3713 on the ground H776.
[15] And when the children H1121 of Israel H3478 saw H7200 (8799) [it], they said H559 (8799) one H376 to another H251, It [is] manna H4478: for they wist H3045 (8804) not what it [was]. And Moses H4872 said H559 (8799) unto them, This [is] the bread H3899 which the LORD H3068 hath given H5414 (8804) you to eat H402.
[16] This [is] the thing H1697 which H834 the LORD H3068 hath commanded H6680 (8765), Gather H3950 (8798) of it every man H376 according H6310 to his eating H400, an omer H6016 for every man H1538, [according to] the number H4557 of your persons H5315; take H3947 (8799) ye every man H376 for [them] which [are] in his tents H168.
[17] And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 did H6213 (8799) so, and gathered H3950 (8799), some more H7235 (8688), some less H4591 (8688).
[18] And when they did mete H4058 (8799) [it] with an omer H6016, he that gathered much H7235 (8688) had nothing over H5736 (8689), and he that gathered little H4591 (8688) had no lack H2637 (8689); they gathered H3950 (8804) every man H376 according H6310 to his eating H400.
[19] And Moses H4872 said H559 (8799), Let no man H376 leave H3498 (8686) of it till the morning H1242.
[20] Notwithstanding they hearkened H8085 (8804) not unto Moses H4872; but some H582 of them left H3498 (8686) of it until the morning H1242, and it bred H7311 (8799) worms H8438, and stank H887 (8799): and Moses H4872 was wroth H7107 (8799) with them.
[21] And they gathered H3950 (8799) it every morning H1242, every man H376 according H6310 to his eating H400: and when the sun H8121 waxed hot H2552 (8804), it melted H4549 (8738).
[22] And it came to pass, [that] on the sixth H8345 day H3117 they gathered H3950 (8804) twice H4932 as much bread H3899, two H8147 omers H6016 for one H259 [man]: and all the rulers H5387 of the congregation H5712 came H935 (8799) and told H5046 (8686) Moses H4872.
[23] And he said H559 (8799) unto them, This [is that] which the LORD H3068 hath said H1696 (8765), To morrow H4279 [is] the rest H7677 of the holy H6944 sabbath H7676 unto the LORD H3068: bake H644 (8798) [that] which ye will bake H644 (8799) [to day], and seethe H1310 (8761) that ye will seethe H1310 (8762); and that which H3605 remaineth over H5736 (8802) lay up H3240 (8685) for you to be kept H4931 until the morning H1242.
[24] And they laid it up H3240 (8686) till the morning H1242, as Moses H4872 bade H6680 (8765): and it did not stink H887 (8689), neither was there any worm H7415 therein.
[25] And Moses H4872 said H559 (8799), Eat H398 (8798) that to day H3117; for to day H3117 [is] a sabbath H7676 unto the LORD H3068: to day H3117 ye shall not find H4672 (8799) it in the field H7704.
[26] Six H8337 days H3117 ye shall gather H3950 (8799) it; but on the seventh H7637 day H3117, [which is] the sabbath H7676, in it there shall be none.
[27] And it came to pass, [that] there went out H3318 (8804) [some] of the people H5971 on the seventh H7637 day H3117 for to gather H3950 (8800), and they found H4672 (8804) none.
[28] And the LORD H3068 said H559 (8799) unto Moses H4872, How long refuse H3985 (8765) ye to keep H8104 (8800) my commandments H4687 and my laws H8451?
[29] See H7200 (8798), for that the LORD H3068 hath given H5414 (8804) you the sabbath H7676, therefore he giveth H5414 (8802) you on the sixth H8345 day H3117 the bread H3899 of two days H3117; abide H3427 (8798) ye every man H376 in his place, let no man H376 go out H3318 (8799) of his place H4725 on the seventh H7637 day H3117.
[30] So the people H5971 rested H7673 (8799) on the seventh H7637 day H3117.
[31] And the house H1004 of Israel H3478 called H7121 (8799) the name H8034 thereof Manna H4478: and it [was] like coriander H1407 seed H2233, white H3836; and the taste H2940 of it [was] like wafers H6838 [made] with honey H1706.
[32] And Moses H4872 said H559 (8799), This [is] the thing H1697 which the LORD H3068 commandeth H6680 (8765), Fill H4393 an omer H6016 of it to be kept H4931 for your generations H1755; that they may see H7200 (8799) the bread H3899 wherewith I have fed H398 (8689) you in the wilderness H4057, when I brought you forth H3318 (8687) from the land H776 of Egypt H4714.
[33] And Moses H4872 said H559 (8799) unto Aaron H175, Take H3947 (8798) a H259 pot H6803, and put H5414 (8798) an omer H6016 full H4393 of manna H4478 therein, and lay it up H3240 (8685) before H6440 the LORD H3068, to be kept H4931 for your generations H1755.
[34] As the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 (8765) Moses H4872, so Aaron H175 laid it up H3240 (8686) before H6440 the Testimony H5715, to be kept H4931.
[35] And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 did eat H398 (8804) manna H4478 forty H705 years H8141, until they came H935 (8800) to a land H776 inhabited H3427 (8737); they did eat H398 (8804) manna H4478, until they came H935 (8800) unto the borders H7097 of the land H776 of Canaan H3667.
[36] Now an omer H6016 [is] the tenth H6224 [part] of an ephah H374.
Young’s Literal Translation
Exodus 16 (YLT)
[1] And they journey from Elim, and all the company of the sons of Israel come in unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month of their going out from the land of Egypt.
[2] And all the company of the sons of Israel murmur against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness;
[3] and the sons of Israel say unto them, ‘Oh that we had died by the hand of Jehovah in the land of Egypt, in our sitting by the flesh-pot, in our eating bread to satiety-for ye have brought us out unto this wilderness to put all this assembly to death with hunger.’
[4] And Jehovah saith unto Moses, ‘Lo, I am raining to you bread from the heavens-and the people have gone out and gathered the matter of a day in its day-so that I try them whether they walk in My law, or not;
[5] and it hath been on the sixth day, that they have prepared that which they bring in, and it hath been double above that which they gather day by day.’
[6] And Moses saith-Aaron also-unto all the sons of Israel, ‘Evening-and ye have known that Jehovah hath brought you out from the land of Egypt;
[7] and morning-and ye have seen the honour of Jehovah, in His hearing your murmurings against Jehovah, and what are we, that ye murmur against us?’
[8] And Moses saith, ‘In Jehovah’s giving to you in the evening flesh to eat, and bread in the morning to satiety-in Jehovah’s hearing your murmurings, which ye are murmuring against Him, and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against Jehovah.’
[9] And Moses saith unto Aaron, ‘Say unto all the company of the sons of Israel, Come ye near before Jehovah, for He hath heard your murmurings;’
[10] and it cometh to pass, when Aaron is speaking unto all the company of the sons of Israel, that they turn towards the wilderness, and lo, the honour of Jehovah is seen in the cloud.
[11] And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, saying,
[12] ‘I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel; speak unto them, saying, Between the evenings ye eat flesh, and in the morning ye are satisfied with bread, and ye have known that I am Jehovah your God.’
[13] And it cometh to pass in the evening, that the quail cometh up, and covereth the camp, and in the morning there hath been the lying of dew round about the camp,
[14] and the lying of the dew goeth up, and lo, on the face of the wilderness a thin, bare thing, thin as hoar-frost on the earth.
[15] And the sons of Israel see, and say one unto another, ‘What is it?’ for they have not known what it is; and Moses saith unto them, ‘It is the bread which Jehovah hath given to you for food.
[16] ‘This is the thing which Jehovah hath commanded: Gather of it each according to his eating, an omer for a poll; and the number of your persons, take ye each for those in his tent.’
[17] And the sons of Israel do so, and they gather, he who is gathering much, and he who is gathering little;
[18] and they measure with an omer, and he who is gathering much hath nothing over, and he who is gathering little hath no lack, each according to his eating they have gathered.
[19] And Moses saith unto them, ‘Let no man leave of it till morning;’
[20] and they have not hearkened unto Moses, and some of them do leave of it till morning, and it bringeth up worms and stinketh; and Moses is wroth with them.
[21] And they gather it morning by morning, each according to his eating; when the sun hath been warm, then it hath melted.
[22] And it cometh to pass on the sixth day, they have gathered a second bread, two omers for one, and all the princes of the company come in, and declare to Moses.
[23] And he saith unto them, ‘It is that which Jehovah hath spoken of; a rest-a holy sabbath to Jehovah-is to-morrow; that which ye bake, bake; and that which ye boil, boil; and all that is over, let rest for yourselves in charge till the morning.’
[24] And they let it rest until the morning, as Moses hath commanded, and it hath not stank, and a worm hath not been in it.
[25] And Moses saith, ‘Eat it to-day, for to-day is a sabbath to Jehovah; to-day ye find it not in the field:
[26] six days ye do gather it, and in the seventh day-the sabbath-in it there is none.’
[27] And it cometh to pass on the seventh day, some of the people have gone out to gather, and have not found.
[28] And Jehovah saith unto Moses, ‘How long have ye refused to keep My commands, and My laws?
[29] see, because Jehovah hath given to you the sabbath, therefore He is giving to you on the sixth day bread of two days; abide ye each in his place, no one doth go out from his place on the seventh day.’
[30] And the people rest on the seventh day,
[31] and the house of Israel call its name Manna, and it is as coriander seed, white; and its taste is as a cake with honey.
[32] And Moses saith, ‘This is the thing which Jehovah hath commanded: Fill the omer with it, for a charge for your generations, so that they see the bread which I have caused you to eat in the wilderness, in My bringing you out from the land of Egypt.’
[33] And Moses saith unto Aaron, ‘Take one pot, and put there the fulness of the omer of manna, and let it rest before Jehovah, for a charge for your generations;’
[34] as Jehovah hath given commandment unto Moses, so doth Aaron let it rest before the Testimony, for a charge.
[35] And the sons of Israel have eaten the manna forty years, until their coming in unto the land to be inhabited; the manna they have eaten till their coming in unto the extremity of the land of Canaan.
[36] and the omer is a tenth of the ephah.
