Exodus 33 (WEBP)

[1] Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Depart, go up from here, you and the people that you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your offspring.’
[2] I will send an angel before you; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
[3] Go to a land flowing with milk and honey; but I will not go up among you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you on the way.”
[4] When the people heard this evil news, they mourned; and no one put on his jewelry.
[5] Yahweh had said to Moses, “Tell the children of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go up among you for one moment, I would consume you. Therefore now take off your jewelry from you, that I may know what to do to you.’ ”
[6] The children of Israel stripped themselves of their jewelry from Mount Horeb onward.
[7] Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp, and he called it “The Tent of Meeting.” Everyone who sought Yahweh went out to the Tent of Meeting, which was outside the camp.
[8] When Moses went out to the Tent, all the people rose up, and stood, everyone at their tent door, and watched Moses, until he had gone into the Tent.
[9] When Moses entered into the Tent, the pillar of cloud descended, stood at the door of the Tent, and Yahweh spoke with Moses.
[10] All the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Tent, and all the people rose up and worshiped, everyone at their tent door.
[11] Yahweh spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. He turned again into the camp, but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, didn’t depart from the Tent.
[12] Moses said to Yahweh, “Behold, you tell me, ‘Bring up this people;’ and you haven’t let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’
[13] Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me your way, now, that I may know you, so that I may find favor in your sight; and consider that this nation is your people.”
[14] He said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
[15] Moses said to him, “If your presence doesn’t go with me, don’t carry us up from here.
[16] For how would people know that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Isn’t it that you go with us, so that we are separated, I and your people, from all the people who are on the surface of the earth?”
[17] Yahweh said to Moses, “I will do this thing also that you have spoken; for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.”
[18] Moses said, “Please show me your glory.”
[19] He said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim Yahweh’s name before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.”
[20] He said, “You cannot see my face, for man may not see me and live.”
[21] Yahweh also said, “Behold, there is a place by me, and you shall stand on the rock.
[22] It will happen, while my glory passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with my hand until I have passed by;
[23] then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back; but my face shall not be seen.”

Exodus 33 (KJVS)

[1] And the LORD H3068 said H1696 (8762) unto Moses H4872, Depart H3212 (8798), [and] go up H5927 (8798) hence, thou and the people H5971 which thou hast brought up H5927 (8689) out of the land H776 of Egypt H4714, unto the land H776 which I sware H7650 (8738) unto Abraham H85, to Isaac H3327, and to Jacob H3290, saying H559 (8800), Unto thy seed H2233 will I give H5414 (8799) it:
[2] And I will send H7971 (8804) an angel H4397 before H6440 thee; and I will drive out H1644 (8765) the Canaanite H3669, the Amorite H567, and the Hittite H2850, and the Perizzite H6522, the Hivite H2340, and the Jebusite H2983:
[3] Unto a land H776 flowing H2100 (8802) with milk H2461 and honey H1706: for I will not go up H5927 (8799) in the midst H7130 of thee; for thou [art] a stiffnecked H7186 H6203 people H5971: lest I consume H3615 (8762) thee in the way H1870.
[4] And when the people H5971 heard H8085 (8799) these evil H7451 tidings H1697, they mourned H56 (8691): and no man H376 did put H7896 (8804) on him his ornaments H5716.
[5] For the LORD H3068 had said H559 (8799) unto Moses H4872, Say H559 (8798) unto the children H1121 of Israel H3478, Ye [are] a stiffnecked H7186 H6203 people H5971: I will come up H5927 (8799) into the midst H7130 of thee in a H259 moment H7281, and consume H3615 (8765) thee: therefore now put off H3381 (8685) thy ornaments H5716 from thee, that I may know H3045 (8799) what to do H6213 (8799) unto thee.
[6] And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 stripped H5337 (8691) themselves of their ornaments H5716 by the mount H2022 Horeb H2722.
[7] And Moses H4872 took H3947 (8799) the tabernacle H168, and pitched H5186 (8804) it without H2351 the camp H4264, afar off H7368 (8687) from the camp H4264, and called H7121 (8804) it the Tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150. And it came to pass, [that] every one which sought H1245 (8764) the LORD H3068 went out H3318 (8799) unto the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150, which [was] without H2351 the camp H4264.
[8] And it came to pass, when Moses H4872 went out H3318 (8800) unto the tabernacle H168, [that] all the people H5971 rose up H6965 (8799), and stood H5324 (8738) every man H376 [at] his tent H168 door H6607, and looked H5027 (8689) after H310 Moses H4872, until he was gone H935 (8800) into the tabernacle H168.
[9] And it came to pass, as Moses H4872 entered H935 (8800) into the tabernacle H168, the cloudy H6051 pillar H5982 descended H3381 (8799), and stood H5975 (8804) [at] the door H6607 of the tabernacle H168, and [the LORD] talked H1696 (8765) with Moses H4872.
[10] And all the people H5971 saw H7200 (8804) the cloudy H6051 pillar H5982 stand H5975 (8802) [at] the tabernacle H168 door H6607: and all the people H5971 rose up H6965 (8804) and worshipped H7812 (8694), every man H376 [in] his tent H168 door H6607.
[11] And the LORD H3068 spake H1696 (8765) unto Moses H4872 face H6440 to face H6440, as a man H376 speaketh H1696 (8762) unto his friend H7453. And he turned again H7725 (8804) into the camp H4264: but his servant H8334 (8764) Joshua H3091, the son H1121 of Nun H5126, a young man H5288, departed H4185 (8686) not out H8432 of the tabernacle H168.
[12] And Moses H4872 said H559 (8799) unto the LORD H3068, See H7200 (8798), thou sayest H559 (8802) unto me, Bring up H5927 (8685) this people H5971: and thou hast not let me know H3045 (8689) whom thou wilt send H7971 (8799) with me. Yet thou hast said H559 (8804), I know H3045 (8804) thee by name H8034, and thou hast also found H4672 (8804) grace H2580 in my sight H5869.
[13] Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found H4672 (8804) grace H2580 in thy sight H5869, shew H3045 (8685) me now thy way H1870, that I may know H3045 (8799) thee, that I may find H4672 (8799) grace H2580 in thy sight H5869: and consider H7200 (8798) that this nation H1471 [is] thy people H5971.
[14] And he said H559 (8799), My presence H6440 shall go H3212 (8799) [with thee], and I will give thee rest H5117 (8689).
[15] And he said H559 (8799) unto him, If thy presence H6440 go H1980 (8802) not [with me], carry us not up H5927 (8686) hence.
[16] For wherein shall it be known H3045 (8735) here H645 that I and thy people H5971 have found H4672 (8804) grace H2580 in thy sight H5869? [is it] not in that thou goest H3212 (8800) with us? so shall we be separated H6395 (8738), I and thy people H5971, from all the people H5971 that [are] upon the face H6440 of the earth H127.
[17] And the LORD H3068 said H559 (8799) unto Moses H4872, I will do H6213 (8799) this thing H1697 also that thou hast spoken H1696 (8765): for thou hast found H4672 (8804) grace H2580 in my sight H5869, and I know H3045 (8799) thee by name H8034.
[18] And he said H559 (8799), I beseech thee H4994, shew H7200 (8685) me thy glory H3519.
[19] And he said H559 (8799), I will make all my goodness H2898 pass H5674 (8686) before thee, and I will proclaim H7121 (8804) the name H8034 of the LORD H3068 before H6440 thee; and will be gracious H2603 (8804) to whom I will be gracious H2603 (8799), and will shew mercy H7355 (8765) on whom I will shew mercy H7355 (8762).
[20] And he said H559 (8799), Thou canst H3201 (8799) not see H7200 (8800) my face H6440: for there shall no man H120 see H7200 (8799) me, and live H2425 (8804).
[21] And the LORD H3068 said H559 (8799), Behold, [there is] a place H4725 by me, and thou shalt stand H5324 (8738) upon a rock H6697:
[22] And it shall come to pass, while my glory H3519 passeth by H5674 (8800), that I will put H7760 (8804) thee in a clift H5366 of the rock H6697, and will cover H5526 (8804) thee with my hand H3709 while H5704 I pass by H5674 (8800):
[23] And I will take H5493 (8689) away mine hand H3709, and thou shalt see H7200 (8804) my back parts H268: but my face H6440 shall not be seen H7200 (8735).

Young’s Literal Translation

Exodus 33 (YLT)

[1] And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, ‘Go, ascend from this place, thou and the people, whom thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I have sworn to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, To thy seed I give it,’
[2] (and I have sent before thee a messenger, and have cast out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite,)
[3] unto a land flowing with milk and honey, for I do not go up in thy midst, for thou art a stiff-necked people-lest I consume thee in the way.’
[4] And the people hear this sad thing, and mourn; and none put his ornaments on him.
[5] And Jehovah saith unto Moses, ‘Say unto the sons of Israel, Ye are a stiff-necked people; one moment-I come up into thy midst, and have consumed thee; and now, put down thine ornaments from off thee, and I know what I do to thee;’
[6] and the sons of Israel take off their ornaments at mount Horeb.
[7] And Moses taketh the tent, and hath stretched it out at the outside of the camp, afar off from the camp, and hath called it, ‘Tent of Meeting;’ and it hath come to pass, every one seeking Jehovah goeth out unto the tent of meeting, which is at the outside of the camp.
[8] And it hath come to pass, at the going out of Moses unto the tent, all the people rise, and have stood, each at the opening of his tent, and have looked expectingly after Moses, until his going into the tent.
[9] And it hath come to pass, at the going in of Moses to the tent, the pillar of the cloud cometh down, and hath stood at the opening of the tent, and He hath spoken with Moses;
[10] and all the people have seen the pillar of the cloud standing at the opening of the tent, and all the people have risen and bowed themselves, each at the opening of his tent.
[11] And Jehovah hath spoken unto Moses face unto face, as a man speaketh unto his friend; and he hath turned back unto the camp, and his minister Joshua, son of Nun, a youth, departeth not out of the tent.
[12] And Moses saith unto Jehovah, ‘See, Thou art saying unto me, Bring up this people, and Thou hast not caused me to know whom Thou dost send with me; and Thou hast said, I have known thee by name, and also thou hast found grace in Mine eyes.
[13] ‘And now, if, I pray Thee, I have found grace in Thine eyes, cause me to know, I pray Thee, Thy way, and I know Thee, so that I find grace in Thine eyes, and consider that this nation is Thy people;’
[14] and He saith, ‘My presence doth go, and I have given rest to thee.’
[15] And he saith unto Him, ‘If Thy presence is not going-take us not up from this place;
[16] and in what is it known now, that I have found grace in Thine eyes-I and Thy people-is it not in Thy going with us? and we have been distinguished-I and Thy people-from all the people who are on the face of the ground.’
[17] And Jehovah saith unto Moses, ‘Even this thing which thou hast spoken I do; for thou hast found grace in Mine eyes, and I know thee by name.’
[18] And he saith, ‘Shew me, I pray Thee, Thine honour;’
[19] and He saith, ‘I cause all My goodness to pass before thy face, and have called concerning the Name of Jehovah before thee, and favoured him whom I favour, and loved him whom I love.’
[20] He saith also, ‘Thou art unable to see My face, for man doth not see Me, and live;’
[21] Jehovah also saith, ‘Lo, a place is by Me, and thou hast stood on the rock,
[22] and it hath come to pass, in the passing by of Mine honour, that I have set thee in a cleft of the rock, and spread out My hands over thee, until My passing by,
[23] and I have turned aside My hands, and thou hast seen My back parts, and My face is not seen.’
