^[31:26] μεθυσατε αυτον οτι επι κυριον εμεγαλυνθη και επικρουσει μωαβ εν χειρι αυτου και εσται εις γελωτα και αυτος

Therefore I will wail for Moab. Yes, I will cry out for all Moab. They will mourn for the men of Kir Heres.

Therefore my heart sounds for Moab like flutes, and my heart sounds like flutes for the men of Kir Heres. Therefore the abundance that he has gotten has perished.

^[31:36] δια τουτο καρδια μου μωαβ ωσπερ αυλοι βομβησουσιν καρδια μου επ ανθρωπους κιραδας ωσπερ αυλος βομβησει δια τουτο α περιεποιησατο απωλετο απο ανθρωπου

Moab will be destroyed from being a people, because he has magnified himself against Yahweh.

And Moab H4124 shall be destroyed H8045 (NiphPerf) from [being] a people, H5971 because he hath magnified H1431 (HiphPerf) [himself] against the Lord. H3068

^[31:42] και απολειται μωαβ απο οχλου οτι επι τον κυριον εμεγαλυνθη

I have heard news from Yahweh, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, “Gather yourselves together! Come against her! Rise up to the battle!”

I have heard H8085 (QalPerf) a rumour H8052 from the Lord, H3068 and an ambassador H6735 is sent H7971 (QalPasPtc) unto the heathen, H1471 [saying], Gather ye together, H6908 (HithImpv) and come H935 (QalImpv) against her, and rise up H6965 (QalImpv) to the battle. H4421

^[30:8] ακοην ηκουσα παρα κυριου και αγγελους εις εθνη απεστειλεν συναχθητε και παραγενεσθε εις αυτην αναστητε εις πολεμον

Therefore hear the counsel of Yahweh, that he has taken against Edom, and his purposes that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they will drag them away, the little ones of the flock. Surely he will make their habitation desolate over them.

Behold, he will come up and fly as the eagle, and spread out his wings against Bozrah. The heart of the mighty men of Edom at that day will be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.

Flee! Wander far off! Dwell in the depths, you inhabitants of Hazor,” says Yahweh; “for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has taken counsel against you, and has conceived a purpose against you.

For a nation comes up out of the north against her, which will make her land desolate, and no one will dwell in it. They have fled. They are gone, both man and animal.

For out of the north H6828 there cometh up H5927 (QalPerf) a nation H1471 against her, which shall make H7896 (QalImpf) her land H776 desolate, H8047 and none shall dwell H3427 (QalActPtc) therein: they shall remove, H5110 (QalPerf) they shall depart, H1980 (QalPerf) both man H120 and beast. H929

^[27:3] οτι ανεβη επ αυτην εθνος απο βορρα ουτος θησει την γην αυτης εις αφανισμον και ουκ εσται ο κατοικων εν αυτη απο ανθρωπου και εως κτηνους

For, behold, I will stir up and cause to come up against Babylon a company of great nations from the north country; and they will set themselves in array against her. She will be taken from there. Their arrows will be as of an expert mighty man. None of them will return in vain.

For, lo, I will raise H5782 (HiphPtc) and cause to come up H5927 (HiphPtc) against Babylon H894 an assembly H6951 of great H1419 nations H1471 from the north H6828 country: H776 and they shall set themselves in array H6186 (QalPerf) against her; from thence she shall be taken: H3920 (NiphImpf) their arrows H2671 [shall be] as of a mighty H1368 expert man; H7919 (HiphPtc) (Ketiv) H7921 (HiphPtc) none shall return H7725 (QalImpf) in vain. ^[27:9] οτι ιδου εγω εγειρω επι βαβυλωνα συναγωγας εθνων εκ γης βορρα και παραταξονται αυτη εκειθεν αλωσεται ως βολις μαχητου συνετου ουκ επιστρεψει κενη

Because of Yahweh’s wrath she won’t be inhabited, but she will be wholly desolate. Everyone who goes by Babylon will be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.

Because of the wrath H7110 of the Lord H3068 it shall not be inhabited, H3427 (QalImpf) but it shall be wholly desolate: H8077 every one that goeth H5674 (QalActPtc) by Babylon H894 shall be astonished, H8074 (QalImpf) and hiss H8319 (QalImpf) at all her plagues. H4347

^[27:13] απο οργης κυριου ου κατοικηθησεται και εσται εις αφανισμον πασα και πας ο διοδευων δια βαβυλωνος σκυθρωπασει και συριουσιν επι πασαν την πληγην αυτης

Set yourselves in array against Babylon all around, all you who bend the bow; shoot at her. Spare no arrows, for she has sinned against Yahweh.

Put yourselves in array H6186 (QalImpv) against Babylon H894 round about: H5439 all ye that bend H1869 (QalActPtc) the bow, H7198 shoot H3034 (QalImpv) at her, spare H2550 (QalImpf) no arrows: H2671 for she hath sinned H2398 (QalPerf) against the Lord. H3068

^[27:14] παραταξασθε επι βαβυλωνα κυκλω παντες τεινοντες τοξον τοξευσατε επ αυτην μη φεισησθε επι τοις τοξευμασιν υμων

Shout against her all around. She has submitted herself. Her bulwarks have fallen. Her walls have been thrown down, for it is the vengeance of Yahweh. Take vengeance on her. As she has done, do to her.

^[27:15] κατακροτησατε επ αυτην παρελυθησαν αι χειρες αυτης επεσαν αι επαλξεις αυτης και κατεσκαφη το τειχος αυτης οτι εκδικησις παρα θεου εστιν εκδικειτε επ αυτην καθως εποιησεν ποιησατε αυτη

“Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod. Kill and utterly destroy after them,” says Yahweh, “and do according to all that I have commanded you.

^[27:21] πικρως επιβηθι επ αυτην και επι τους κατοικουντας επ αυτην εκδικησον μαχαιρα και αφανισον λεγει κυριος και ποιει κατα παντα οσα εντελλομαι σοι

“Call together the archers against Babylon, all those who bend the bow. Encamp against her all around. Let none of it escape. Pay her back according to her work. According to all that she has done, do to her; for she has been proud against Yahweh, against the Holy One of Israel.

^[27:29] παραγγειλατε επι βαβυλωνα πολλοις παντι εντεινοντι τοξον παρεμβαλετε επ αυτην κυκλοθεν μη εστω αυτης ανασωζομενος ανταποδοτε αυτη κατα τα εργα αυτης κατα παντα οσα εποιησεν ποιησατε αυτη οτι προς τον κυριον αντεστη θεον αγιον του ισραηλ

“A sword is on the Chaldeans,” says Yahweh, “and on the inhabitants of Babylon, on her princes, and on her wise men.

A sword H2719 [is] upon the Chaldeans, H3778 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord, H3068 and upon the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Babylon, H894 and upon her princes, H8269 and upon her wise H2450 [men].

^[27:35] μαχαιραν επι τους χαλδαιους και επι τους κατοικουντας βαβυλωνα και επι τους μεγιστανας αυτης και επι τους συνετους αυτης

They take up bow and spear. They are cruel, and have no mercy. Their voice roars like the sea. They ride on horses, everyone set in array, as a man to the battle, against you, daughter of Babylon.

They shall hold H2388 (HiphImpf) the bow H7198 and the lance: H3591 they [are] cruel, H394 and will not shew mercy: H7355 (PielImpf) their voice H6963 shall roar H1993 (QalImpf) like the sea, H3220 and they shall ride H7392 (QalImpf) upon horses, H5483 [every one] put in array, H6186 (QalPasPtc) like a man H376 to the battle, H4421 against thee, O daughter H1323 of Babylon. ^[27:42] τοξον και εγχειριδιον εχοντες ιταμος εστιν και ου μη ελεηση φωνη αυτων ως θαλασσα ηχησει εφ ιπποις ιππασονται παρεσκευασμενοι ωσπερ πυρ εις πολεμον προς σε θυγατερ βαβυλωνος

Therefore hear the counsel of Yahweh that he has taken against Babylon; and his purposes that he has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely they will drag them away, even the little ones of the flock. Surely he will make their habitation desolate over them.

Yahweh says: “Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against those who dwell in Lebkamai, a destroying wind.

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord; H3068 Behold, I will raise up H5782 (HiphPtc) against Babylon, H894 and against them that dwell H3427 (QalActPtc) in the midst H3820 of them that rise up H6965 (QalPtc) against me, a destroying H7843 (HiphPtc) wind; H7307

^[28:1] ταδε λεγει κυριος ιδου εγω εξεγειρω επι βαβυλωνα και επι τους κατοικουντας χαλδαιους ανεμον καυσωνα διαφθειροντα

I will send to Babylon strangers, who will winnow her. They will empty her land; for in the day of trouble they will be against her all around.

And will send H7971 (PielPerf) unto Babylon H894 fanners, H2114 (QalPtc) that shall fan H2219 (PielPerf) her, and shall empty H1238 (PoleImpf) her land: H776 for in the day H3117 of trouble H7451 they shall be against her round about. H5439

^[28:2] και εξαποστελω εις βαβυλωνα υβριστας και καθυβρισουσιν αυτην και λυμανουνται την γην αυτης ουαι επι βαβυλωνα κυκλοθεν εν ημερα κακωσεως αυτης

Babylon has been a golden cup in Yahweh’s hand, who made all the earth drunk. The nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations have gone mad.

Babylon H894 [hath been] a golden H2091 cup H3563 in the Lord’s H3068 hand, H3027 that made all the earth H776 drunken: H7937 (PielPtc) the nations H1471 have drunken H8354 (QalPerf) of her wine; H3196 therefore the nations H1471 are mad. H1984 (HipoImpf)

^[28:7] ποτηριον χρυσουν βαβυλων εν χειρι κυριου μεθυσκον πασαν την γην απο του οινου αυτης επιοσαν εθνη δια τουτο εσαλευθησαν

Babylon has suddenly fallen and been destroyed! Wail for her! Take balm for her pain. Perhaps she may be healed.

Babylon H894 is suddenly H6597 fallen H5307 (QalPerf) and destroyed: H7665 (NiphImpf) howl H3213 (HiphImpv) for her; take H3947 (QalImpv) balm H6875 for her pain, H4341 if so be she may be healed. H7495 (NiphImpf)

^[28:8] και αφνω επεσεν βαβυλων και συνετριβη θρηνειτε αυτην λαβετε ρητινην τη διαφθορα αυτης ει πως ιαθησεται

“Make the arrows sharp! Hold the shields firmly! Yahweh has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it; for it is the vengeance of Yahweh, the vengeance of his temple.

Make bright H1305 (HiphImpv) the arrows; H2671 gather H4390 (QalImpv) the shields: H7982 the Lord H3068 hath raised up H5782 (HiphPerf) the spirit H7307 of the kings H4428 of the Medes: H4074 for his device H4209 [is] against Babylon, H894 to destroy H7843 (HiphInf) it; because it [is] the vengeance H5360 of the Lord, H3068 the vengeance H5360 of his temple. ^[28:11] παρασκευαζετε τα τοξευματα πληρουτε τας φαρετρας ηγειρεν κυριος το πνευμα βασιλεως μηδων οτι εις βαβυλωνα η οργη αυτου του εξολεθρευσαι αυτην οτι εκδικησις κυριου εστιν εκδικησις λαου αυτου εστιν

Yahweh of Armies has sworn by himself, saying, ‘Surely I will fill you with men, as with locusts, and they will lift up a shout against you.’

The Lord H3068 of hosts H6635 hath sworn H7650 (NiphPerf) by himself, H5315 [saying], Surely I will fill H4390 (PielPerf) thee with men, H120 as with caterpillers; H3218 and they shall lift up H6030 (QalPerf) a shout H1959 against thee.

^[28:14] οτι ωμοσεν κυριος κατα του βραχιονος αυτου διοτι πληρωσω σε ανθρωπων ωσει ακριδων και φθεγξονται επι σε οι καταβαινοντες

“Behold, I am against you, destroying mountain,” says Yahweh, “which destroys all the earth. I will stretch out my hand on you, roll you down from the rocks, and will make you a burned mountain.

Behold, I [am] against thee, O destroying H4889 mountain, H2022 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord, H3068 which destroyest H7843 (HiphPtc) all the earth: H776 and I will stretch out H5186 (QalPerf) mine hand H3027 upon thee, and roll thee down H1556 (PilpPerf) from the rocks, H5553 and will make H5414 (QalPerf) thee a burnt H8316 mountain. ^[28:25] ιδου εγω προς σε το ορος το διεφθαρμενον το διαφθειρον πασαν την γην και εκτενω την χειρα μου επι σε και κατακυλιω σε απο των πετρων και δωσω σε ως ορος εμπεπυρισμενον

“Set up a standard in the land! Blow the trumpet among the nations! Prepare the nations against her! Call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz! Appoint a marshal against her! Cause the horses to come up as the swarming locusts!

Set ye up H5375 (QalImpv) a standard H5251 in the land, H776 blow H8628 (QalImpv) the trumpet H7782 among the nations, H1471 prepare H6942 (PielImpv) the nations H1471 against her, call together H8085 (HiphImpv) against her the kingdoms H4467 of Ararat, H780 Minni, H4508 and Ashchenaz; H813 appoint H6485 (QalImpv) a captain H2951 against her; cause the horses H5483 to come up H5927 (HiphImpv) as the rough H5569 caterpillers. ^[28:27] αρατε σημειον επι της γης σαλπισατε εν εθνεσιν σαλπιγγι αγιασατε επ αυτην εθνη παραγγειλατε επ αυτην βασιλειαις αραρατ παρ εμου και τοις ασχαναζαιοις επιστησατε επ αυτην βελοστασεις αναβιβασατε επ αυτην ιππον ως ακριδων πληθος

Prepare against her the nations, the kings of the Medes, its governors, and all its deputies, and all the land of their dominion!

Prepare H6942 (PielImpv) against her the nations H1471 with the kings H4428 of the Medes, H4074 the captains H6346 thereof, and all the rulers H5461 thereof, and all the land H776 of his dominion. H4475

^[28:28] αγιασατε επ αυτην εθνη τον βασιλεα των μηδων και πασης της γης τους ηγουμενους αυτου και παντας τους στρατηγους αυτου

The land trembles and is in pain; for the purposes of Yahweh against Babylon stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.

And the land H776 shall tremble H7493 (QalImpf) and sorrow: H2342 (QalImpf) for every purpose H4284 of the Lord H3068 shall be performed H6965 (QalPerf) against Babylon, H894 to make H7760 (QalInf) the land H776 of Babylon H894 a desolation H8047 without an inhabitant. H3427 (QalActPtc)

^[28:29] εσεισθη η γη και επονεσεν διοτι εξανεστη επι βαβυλωνα λογισμος κυριου του θειναι την γην βαβυλωνος εις αφανισμον και μη κατοικεισθαι αυτην

The sea has come up on Babylon. She is covered with the multitude of its waves.

The sea H3220 is come up H5927 (QalPerf) upon Babylon: H894 she is covered H3680 (NiphPerf) with the multitude H1995 of the waves H1530 thereof.

^[28:42] ανεβη επι βαβυλωνα η θαλασσα εν ηχω κυματων αυτης και κατεκαλυφθη

Don’t let your heart faint. Don’t fear for the news that will be heard in the land. For news will come one year, and after that in another year news will come, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

And lest your heart H3824 faint, H7401 (NiphImpf) and ye fear H3372 (QalImpf) for the rumour H8052 that shall be heard H8085 (NiphPtc) in the land; H776 a rumour H8052 shall both come H935 (QalPerf) [one] year, H8141 and after H310 that in [another] year H8141 [shall come] a rumour, H8052 and violence H2555 in the land, H776 ruler H4910 (QalActPtc) against ruler. H4910 (QalActPtc)

Then the heavens and the earth, and all that is therein, will sing for joy over Babylon; for the destroyers will come to her from the north,” says Yahweh.

Then the heaven H8064 and the earth, H776 and all that [is] therein, shall sing H7442 (PielPerf) for Babylon: H894 for the spoilers H7703 (QalActPtc) shall come H935 (QalImpf) unto her from the north, H6828 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord. H3068

For the destroyer has come on her, even on Babylon. Her mighty men are taken. Their bows are broken in pieces, for Yahweh is a God of retribution. He will surely repay.

Because the spoiler H7703 (QalActPtc) is come H935 (QalPerf) upon her, [even] upon Babylon, H894 and her mighty men H1368 are taken, H3920 (NiphPerf) every one of their bows H7198 is broken: H2865 (PielPerf) for the Lord H3068 God H410 of recompences H1578 shall surely H7999 (PielInf) requite. H7999 (PielImpf)

^[28:56] οτι ηλθεν επι βαβυλωνα ταλαιπωρια εαλωσαν οι μαχηται αυτης επτοηται το τοξον αυτων οτι θεος ανταποδιδωσιν αυτοις κυριος ανταποδιδωσιν αυτη την ανταποδοσιν

For through Yahweh’s anger this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until he had cast them out from his presence. Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.

For through H5921 the anger H639 of the Lord H3068 it came to pass in Jerusalem H3389 and Judah, H3063 till he had cast them out H7993 (HiphInf) from his presence, H6440 that Zedekiah H6667 rebelled H4775 (QalImpf) against the king H4428 of Babylon. H894

In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and encamped against it; and they built forts against it round about.

And it came to pass in the ninth H8671 year H8141 of his reign, H4427 (QalInf) in the tenth H6224 month, H2320 in the tenth H6218 [day] of the month, H2320 [that] Nebuchadrezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon H894 came, H935 (QalPerf) he and all his army, H2428 against Jerusalem, H3389 and pitched H2583 (QalImpf) against it, and built H1129 (QalImpf) forts H1785 against it round about. και εγενετο εν τω ετει τω ενατω της βασιλειας αυτου εν μηνι τω δεκατω δεκατη του μηνος ηλθεν ναβουχοδονοσορ βασιλευς βαβυλωνος και πασα η δυναμις αυτου επι ιερουσαλημ και περιεχαρακωσαν αυτην και περιωκοδομησαν αυτην τετραπεδοις λιθοις κυκλω

Her adversaries have become the head. Her enemies prosper; for Yahweh^§ has afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions. Her young children have gone into captivity before the adversary.

My eyes fail with tears. My heart is troubled. My bile is poured on the earth, because of the destruction of the daughter of my people, because the young children and the infants swoon in the streets of the city.

All your enemies have opened their mouth wide against you. They hiss and gnash their teeth. They say, “We have swallowed her up. Certainly this is the day that we looked for. We have found it. We have seen it.”

διηνοιξαν επι σε στομα αυτων παντες οι εχθροι σου εσυρισαν και εβρυξαν οδοντας ειπαν κατεπιομεν αυτην πλην αυτη η ημερα ην προσεδοκωμεν ευρομεν αυτην ειδομεν

Yahweh has done that which he planned. He has fulfilled his word that he commanded in the days of old. He has thrown down, and has not pitied. He has caused the enemy to rejoice over you. He has exalted the horn of your adversaries.

εποιησεν κυριος α ενεθυμηθη συνετελεσεν ρηματα αυτου α ενετειλατο εξ ημερων αρχαιων καθειλεν και ουκ εφεισατο και ηυφρανεν επι σε εχθρον υψωσεν κερας θλιβοντος σε

He has built against me, and surrounded me with bitterness and hardship.

My soul still remembers them, and is bowed down within me.

This I recall to my mind; therefore I have hope.

ταυτην ταξω εις την καρδιαν μου δια τουτο υπομενω

“Yahweh is my portion,” says my soul. “Therefore I will hope in him.”

Why should a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

τι γογγυσει ανθρωπος ζων ανηρ περι της αμαρτιας αυτου

“All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.

διηνοιξαν εφ ημας το στομα αυτων παντες οι εχθροι ημων

My eye runs down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.
