For your word’s sake, and according to your own heart, you have worked all this greatness, to make your servant know it.

δια τον λογον σου πεποιηκας και κατα την καρδιαν σου εποιησας πασαν την μεγαλωσυνην ταυτην γνωρισαι τω δουλω σου

Therefore you are great, Yahweh God. For there is no one like you, neither is there any God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

Wherefore thou art great, H1431 (QalPerf) O Lord H3068 God: H430 for there is none like thee, neither is there any God H430 beside H2108 thee, according to all that we have heard H8085 (QalPerf) with our ears. H241

ενεκεν του μεγαλυναι σε κυριε μου κυριε οτι ουκ εστιν ως συ και ουκ εστιν θεος πλην σου εν πασιν οις ηκουσαμεν εν τοις ωσιν ημων

David took from him one thousand seven hundred horsemen and twenty thousand footmen. David hamstrung the chariot horses, but reserved enough of them for one hundred chariots.

King David also dedicated these to Yahweh, with the silver and gold that he dedicated of all the nations which he subdued—

He put garrisons in Edom. Throughout all Edom, he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became servants to David. Yahweh gave victory to David wherever he went.

David reigned over all Israel; and David executed justice and righteousness for all his people.

David said to him, “Don’t be afraid, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your father. You will eat bread at my table continually.”

Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said to him, “All that belonged to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master’s son.

Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Mica. All who lived in Ziba’s house were servants to Mephibosheth.

και τω μεμφιβοσθε υιος μικρος και ονομα αυτω μιχα και πασα η κατοικησις του οικου σιβα δουλοι του μεμφιβοσθε

When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.

And when David H1732 heard H8085 (QalImpf) of it, he sent H7971 (QalImpf) Joab, H3097 and all the host H6635 of the mighty men. H1368

και ηκουσεν δαυιδ και απεστειλεν τον ιωαβ και πασαν την δυναμιν τους δυνατους

Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel and put them in array against the Syrians.

και ειδεν ιωαβ οτι εγενηθη προς αυτον αντιπροσωπον του πολεμου εκ του κατα προσωπον εξ εναντιας και εκ του οπισθεν και επελεξεν εκ παντων των νεανισκων ισραηλ και παρεταξαντο εξ εναντιας συριας

David was told that; and he gathered all Israel together, passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. The Syrians set themselves in array against David and fought with him.

και ανηγγελη τω δαυιδ και συνηγαγεν τον παντα ισραηλ και διεβη τον ιορδανην και παρεγενοντο εις αιλαμ και παρεταξατο συρια απεναντι δαυιδ και επολεμησαν μετ αυτου

When all the kings who were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Syrians were afraid to help the children of Ammon any more.

And when all the kings H4428 that were servants H5650 to Hadarezer H1928 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that they were smitten H5062 (NiphPerf) before H6440 Israel, H3478 they made peace H7999 (HiphImpf) with Israel, H3478 and served H5647 (QalImpf) them. και ειδαν παντες οι βασιλεις οι δουλοι αδρααζαρ οτι επταισαν εμπροσθεν ισραηλ και ηυτομολησαν μετα ισραηλ και εδουλευσαν αυτοις και εφοβηθη συρια του σωσαι ετι τους υιους αμμων

At the return of the year, at the time when kings go out, David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. But David stayed at Jerusalem.

And it came to pass, after the year H8141 was expired,^§ H8666 at the time H6256 when kings H4428 (Qere) H4397 go forth H3318 (QalInf) to battle, that David H1732 sent H7971 (QalImpf) Joab, H3097 and his servants H5650 with him, and all Israel; H3478 and they destroyed H7843 (HiphImpf) the children H1121 of Ammon, H5983 and besieged H6696 (QalImpf) Rabbah. But Uriah slept at the door of the king’s house with all the servants of his lord, and didn’t go down to his house.

Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;

και απεστειλεν ιωαβ και απηγγειλεν τω βασιλει παντας τους λογους του πολεμου

and he commanded the messenger, saying, “When you have finished telling all the things concerning the war to the king,

και ενετειλατο τω αγγελω λεγων εν τω συντελεσαι σε παντας τους λογους του πολεμου λαλησαι προς τον βασιλεα

So the messenger went, and came and showed David all that Joab had sent him for.

So the messenger H4397 went, H3212 (QalImpf) and came H935 (QalImpf) and shewed H5046 (HiphImpf) David H1732 all that Joab H3097 had sent H7971 (QalPerf) him for.

but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was like a daughter to him.

οτι συ εποιησας κρυβη καγω ποιησω το ρημα τουτο εναντιον παντος ισραηλ και απεναντι τουτου του ηλιου

David gathered all the people together and went to Rabbah, and fought against it and took it.

And David H1732 gathered H622 all the people H5971 together, H622 (QalImpf) and went H3212 (QalImpf) to Rabbah, H7237 and fought H3898 (NiphImpf) against it, and took H3920 (QalImpf) it.

και συνηγαγεν δαυιδ παντα τον λαον και επορευθη εις ραββαθ και επολεμησεν εν αυτη και κατελαβετο αυτην

He brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work under saws, under iron picks, under axes of iron, and made them go to the brick kiln; and he did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

And he brought forth H3318 (HiphPerf) the people H5971 that were therein, and put H7760 (QalImpf) them under saws, H4050 and under harrows H2757 of iron, H1270 and under axes H4037 of iron, H1270 and made them pass H5674 (HiphPerf) through the brickkiln: H4404 and thus did H6213 (QalImpf) he unto all the cities H5892 of the children H1121 of Ammon. She took the pan and poured them out before him, but he refused to eat. Amnon said, “Have all men leave me.” Then every man went out from him.

και ελαβεν το τηγανον και κατεκενωσεν ενωπιον αυτου και ουκ ηθελησεν φαγειν και ειπεν αμνων εξαγαγετε παντα ανδρα επανωθεν μου και εξηγαγον παντα ανδρα απο επανωθεν αυτου

But when King David heard of all these things, he was very angry.

But when king H4428 David H1732 heard H8085 (QalPerf) of all these things, H1697 he was very H3966 wroth. H2734 (QalImpf)

και ηκουσεν ο βασιλευς δαυιδ παντας τους λογους τουτους και εθυμωθη σφοδρα και ουκ ελυπησεν το πνευμα αμνων του υιου αυτου οτι ηγαπα αυτον οτι πρωτοτοκος αυτου ην

After two full years, Absalom had sheep shearers in Baal Hazor, which is beside Ephraim; and Absalom invited all the king’s sons.

And it came to pass after two full H3117 years, H8141 that Absalom H53 had sheepshearers H1494 (QalActPtc) in Baal-hazor, H1178 which is beside Ephraim: H669 and Absalom H53 invited H7121 (QalImpf) all the king’s H4428 sons. H1121

και εγενετο εις διετηριδα ημερων και ησαν κειροντες τω αβεσσαλωμ εν βελασωρ τη εχομενα εφραιμ και εκαλεσεν αβεσσαλωμ παντας τους υιους του βασιλεως

The king said to Absalom, “No, my son, let’s not all go, lest we be burdensome to you.” He pressed him; however he would not go, but blessed him.

And the king H4428 said H559 (QalImpf) to Absalom, H53 Nay, my son, H1121 let us not all now go, H3212 (QalImpf) lest we be chargeable H3513 (QalImpf) unto thee. And he pressed H6555 (QalImpf) him: howbeit he would H14 (QalPerf) not go, H3212 (QalInf) but blessed H1288 (PielImpf) him.

και ειπεν ο βασιλευς προς αβεσσαλωμ μη δη υιε μου μη πορευθωμεν παντες ημεις και ου μη καταβαρυνθωμεν επι σε και εβιασατο αυτον και ουκ ηθελησεν του πορευθηναι και ευλογησεν αυτον

But Absalom pressed him, and he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.

But Absalom H53 pressed H6555 (QalImpf) him, that he let Amnon H550 and all the king’s H4428 sons H1121 go H7971 (QalImpf) with him.

και εβιασατο αυτον αβεσσαλωμ και απεστειλεν μετ αυτου τον αμνων και παντας τους υιους του βασιλεως και εποιησεν αβεσσαλωμ ποτον κατα τον ποτον του βασιλεως

The servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose, and every man got up on his mule and fled.

And the servants H5288 of Absalom H53 did H6213 (QalImpf) unto Amnon H550 as Absalom H53 had commanded. H6680 (PielPerf) Then all the king’s H4428 sons H1121 arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and every man H376 gat him up H7392 (QalImpf) upon his mule, H6505 and fled. H5127 (QalImpf)

και εποιησαν τα παιδαρια αβεσσαλωμ τω αμνων καθα ενετειλατο αυτοις αβεσσαλωμ και ανεστησαν παντες οι υιοι του βασιλεως και επεκαθισαν ανηρ επι την ημιονον αυτου και εφυγαν

While they were on the way, the news came to David, saying, “Absalom has slain all the king’s sons, and there is not one of them left!”

And it came to pass, while they were in the way, H1870 that tidings H8052 came H935 (QalPerf) to David, H1732 saying, H559 (QalInf) Absalom H53 hath slain H5221 (HiphPerf) all the king’s H4428 sons, H1121 and there is not one H259 of them left. H3498 (NiphPerf)

και εγενετο αυτων οντων εν τη οδω και η ακοη ηλθεν προς δαυιδ λεγων επαταξεν αβεσσαλωμ παντας τους υιους του βασιλεως και ου κατελειφθη εξ αυτων ουδε εις

Then the king arose, and tore his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes torn.

και ανεστη ο βασιλευς και διερρηξεν τα ιματια αυτου και εκοιμηθη επι την γην και παντες οι παιδες αυτου οι περιεστωτες αυτω διερρηξαν τα ιματια αυτων

Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David’s brother, answered, “Don’t let my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men, the king’s sons, for Amnon only is dead; for by the appointment of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

And Jonadab, H3122 the son H1121 of Shimeah H8093 David’s H1732 brother, H251 answered H6030 (QalImpf) and said, H559 (QalImpf) Let not my lord H113 suppose H559 (QalImpf) that they have slain H4191 (HiphPerf) all the young men H5288 the king’s H4428 sons; H1121 for Amnon H550 only is dead: H4191 (QalPerf) for by the appointment^§ H6310 of Absalom H53 this hath been determined^§ H7760 (QalPasPtc) from the day H3117 that he forced H6031 (PielInf) his sister H269 Tamar. As soon as he had finished speaking, behold, the king’s sons came, and lifted up their voices and wept. The king also and all his servants wept bitterly.

And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end H3615 (PielInf) of speaking, H1696 (PielInf) that, behold, the king’s H4428 sons H1121 came, H935 (QalPerf) and lifted up H5375 (QalImpf) their voice H6963 and wept: H1058 (QalImpf) and the king H4428 also and all his servants H5650 wept H1058 (QalPerf) very H3966 sore.^§ H1065 H1419

Now in all Israel there was no one to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty. From the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no defect in him.

Absalom did this sort of thing to all Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

The king’s servants said to the king, “Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king chooses.”
