κυριε παντοκρατωρ θεος ισραηλ απεκαλυψας το ωτιον του δουλου σου λεγων οικον οικοδομησω σοι δια τουτο ευρεν ο δουλος σου την καρδιαν εαυτου του προσευξασθαι προς σε την προσευχην ταυτην

David said, “Is there yet any who is left of Saul’s house, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?”

There was of Saul’s house a servant whose name was Ziba, and they called him to David; and the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?” He said, “I am your servant.”

και εκ του οικου σαουλ παις ην και ονομα αυτω σιβα και καλουσιν αυτον προς δαυιδ και ειπεν προς αυτον ο βασιλευς ει συ ει σιβα και ειπεν εγω δουλος σος

The king said, “Is there not yet any of Saul’s house, that I may show the kindness of God to him?” Ziba said to the king, “Jonathan still has a son, who is lame in his feet.”

The king said to him, “Where is he?” Ziba said to the king, “Behold, he is in the house of Machir the son of Ammiel, in Lo Debar.”

Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, fell on his face, and showed respect. David said, “Mephibosheth?” He answered, “Behold, your servant!”

David said to him, “Don’t be afraid, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your father. You will eat bread at my table continually.”

He bowed down, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look at such a dead dog as I am?”

Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said to him, “All that belonged to Saul and to all his house I have given to your master’s son.

Then Ziba said to the king, “According to all that my lord the king commands his servant, so your servant will do.” So Mephibosheth ate at the king’s table like one of the king’s sons.

David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.

και ανηγγειλαν τω δαυιδ υπερ των ανδρων και απεστειλεν εις απαντην αυτων οτι ησαν οι ανδρες ητιμασμενοι σφοδρα και ειπεν ο βασιλευς καθισατε εν ιεριχω εως του ανατειλαι τους πωγωνας υμων και επιστραφησεσθε

He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.

David sent and inquired after the woman. One said, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, Uriah the Hittite’s wife?”

The woman conceived; and she sent and told David, and said, “I am with child.”

David said to Uriah, “Go down to your house and wash your feet.” Uriah departed out of the king’s house, and a gift from the king was sent after him.

When they had told David, saying, “Uriah didn’t go down to his house,” David said to Uriah, “Haven’t you come from a journey? Why didn’t you go down to your house?”

Uriah said to David, “The ark, Israel, and Judah, are staying in tents; and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open field. Shall I then go into my house to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? As you live, and as your soul lives, I will not do this thing!”

David said to Uriah, “Stay here today also, and tomorrow I will let you depart.” So Uriah stayed in Jerusalem that day and the next day.

και ειπεν δαυιδ προς ουριαν καθισον ενταυθα και γε σημερον και αυριον εξαποστελω σε και εκαθισεν ουριας εν ιερουσαλημ εν τη ημερα εκεινη και τη επαυριον

He wrote in the letter, saying, “Send Uriah to the forefront of the hottest battle, and retreat from him, that he may be struck and die.”

it shall be that, if the king’s wrath arise, and he asks you, ‘Why did you go so near to the city to fight? Didn’t you know that they would shoot from the wall?

The messenger said to David, “The men prevailed against us, and came out to us into the field; and we were on them even to the entrance of the gate.

και ειπεν ο αγγελος προς δαυιδ οτι εκραταιωσαν εφ ημας οι ανδρες και εξηλθαν εφ ημας εις τον αγρον και εγενηθημεν επ αυτους εως της θυρας της πυλης

Then David said to the messenger, “Tell Joab, ‘Don’t let this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Make your battle stronger against the city, and overthrow it.’ Encourage him.”

Yahweh sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city: the one rich, and the other poor.

And the Lord H3068 sent H7971 (QalImpf) Nathan H5416 unto David. H1732 And he came H935 (QalImpf) unto him, and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, There were two H8147 men H582 in one H259 city; H5892 the one H259 rich, H6223 and the other H259 poor. H7326 (QalActPtc)

και απεστειλεν κυριος τον ναθαν τον προφητην προς δαυιδ και εισηλθεν προς αυτον και ειπεν αυτω δυο ησαν ανδρες εν πολει μια εις πλουσιος και εις πενης

David’s anger burned hot against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As Yahweh lives, the man who has done this deserves to die!

And David’s H1732 anger H639 was greatly H3966 kindled H2734 (QalImpf) against the man; H376 and he said H559 (QalImpf) to Nathan, H5416 As the Lord H3068 liveth, H2416 the man H376 that hath done H6213 (QalActPtc) this thing shall surely H1121 die:^§ H4194

και εθυμωθη οργη δαυιδ σφοδρα τω ανδρι και ειπεν δαυιδ προς ναθαν ζη κυριος οτι υιος θανατου ο ανηρ ο ποιησας τουτο

Nathan said to David, “You are the man! This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.

και ειπεν ναθαν προς δαυιδ συ ει ο ανηρ ο ποιησας τουτο ταδε λεγει κυριος ο θεος ισραηλ εγω ειμι εχρισα σε εις βασιλεα επι ισραηλ και εγω ειμι ερρυσαμην σε εκ χειρος σαουλ

“This is what Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord, H3068 Behold, I will raise up H6965 (HiphPtc) evil H7451 against thee out of thine own house, H1004 and I will take H3947 (QalPerf) thy wives H802 before thine eyes, H5869 and give H5414 (QalPerf) them unto thy neighbour, H7453 and he shall lie H7901 (QalPerf) with thy wives H802 in the sight H5869 of this sun. David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against Yahweh.” Nathan said to David, “Yahweh also has put away your sin. You will not die.

και ειπεν δαυιδ τω ναθαν ημαρτηκα τω κυριω και ειπεν ναθαν προς δαυιδ και κυριος παρεβιβασεν το αμαρτημα σου ου μη αποθανης

On the seventh day, the child died. David’s servants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, “Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him and he didn’t listen to our voice. How will he then harm himself if we tell him that the child is dead?”

And it came to pass on the seventh H7637 day, H3117 that the child H3206 died.
