The princes of Moab rose up, and they went to Balak, and said, “Balaam refuses to come with us.”

God came to Balaam at night, and said to him, “If the men have come to call you, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I speak to you, that you shall do.”

Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.

και αναστας βαλααμ το πρωι επεσαξεν την ονον αυτου και επορευθη μετα των αρχοντων μωαβ

God’s anger burned because he went; and Yahweh’s angel placed himself in the way as an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.

και ιδουσα η ονος τον αγγελον του θεου ανθεστηκοτα εν τη οδω και την ρομφαιαν εσπασμενην εν τη χειρι αυτου και εξεκλινεν η ονος εκ της οδου και επορευετο εις το πεδιον και επαταξεν την ονον τη ραβδω του ευθυναι αυτην εν τη οδω

Yahweh’s angel said to Balaam, “Go with the men; but you shall only speak the word that I shall speak to you.” So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

Balak said to Balaam, “Didn’t I earnestly send for you to summon you? Why didn’t you come to me? Am I not able indeed to promote you to honor?”

Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kiriath Huzoth.

και επορευθη βαλααμ μετα βαλακ και ηλθον εις πολεις επαυλεων

Balaam said to Balak, “Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go. Perhaps Yahweh will come to meet me. Whatever he shows me I will tell you.” He went to a bare height.

He took up his parable, and said, “From Aram has Balak brought me, the king of Moab from the mountains of the East. Come, curse Jacob for me. Come, defy Israel.

και εγενηθη πνευμα θεου επ αυτω και αναλαβων την παραβολην αυτου ειπεν εκ μεσοποταμιας μετεπεμψατο με βαλακ βασιλευς μωαβ εξ ορεων απ ανατολων λεγων δευρο αρασαι μοι τον ιακωβ και δευρο επικαταρασαι μοι τον ισραηλ

Balak said to him, “Please come with me to another place, where you may see them. You shall see just part of them, and shall not see them all. Curse them from there for me.”

And Balak H1111 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Come, H3212 (QalImpv) I pray thee, with me unto another H312 place, H4725 from whence thou mayest see H7200 (QalImpf) them: thou shalt see H7200 (QalImpf) but H657 the utmost H7097 part of them, and shalt not see H7200 (QalImpf) them all: and curse H6895 (QalImpv) me them from thence.

Balak said to Balaam, “Come now, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will please God that you may curse them for me from there.”

When Balaam saw that it pleased Yahweh to bless Israel, he didn’t go, as at the other times, to use divination, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

And when Balaam H1109 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that it pleased H5869 H2895 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 to bless H1288 (PielInf) Israel, H3478 he went H1980 (QalPerf) not, as at other times, H6471 to seek H7125 (QalInf) for enchantments,^§ H5173 but he set H7896 (QalImpf) his face H6440 toward the wilderness. Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.

The children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, took it, and dispossessed the Amorites who were therein.

Jair the son of Manasseh went and took its villages, and called them Havvoth Jair.

Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

For Yahweh your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has known your walking through this great wilderness. These forty years, Yahweh your God has been with you. You have lacked nothing.
