“‘“‘It will happen that I will punish the nation and the kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon,’ says Yahweh, ‘with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.

Don’t listen to them. Serve the king of Babylon, and live. Why should this city become a desolation?

That same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spoke to me in Yahweh’s house, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,

The prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, of evil, and of pestilence.

Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, after Hananiah the prophet had broken the bar from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to Yahweh for it; for in its peace you will have peace.”

“Yahweh has made you priest in the place of Jehoiada the priest, that there may be officers in Yahweh’s house, for every man who is crazy and makes himself a prophet, that you should put him in the stocks and in shackles.

Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,

therefore Yahweh says, “Behold, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite and his offspring. He will not have a man to dwell among this people. He won’t see the good that I will do to my people,” says Yahweh, “because he has spoken rebellion against Yahweh.”’”

^[37:1] ο λογος ο γενομενος προς ιερεμιαν παρα κυριου ειπειν

It will come to pass in that day, says Yahweh of Armies, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and will burst your bonds. Strangers will no more make them their bondservants;

For it shall come to pass in that day, H3117 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord H3068 of hosts, H6635 that I will break H7665 (QalImpf) his yoke H5923 from off thy neck, H6677 and will burst H5423 (PielImpf) thy bonds, H4147 and strangers H2114 (QalPtc) shall no more serve H5647 (QalImpf) themselves of him:

Therefore all those who devour you will be devoured. All your adversaries, everyone of them, will go into captivity. Those who plunder you will be plunder. I will make all who prey on you become prey.

^[37:16] δια τουτο παντες οι εσθοντες σε βρωθησονται και παντες οι εχθροι σου κρεας αυτων παν εδονται επι πληθος αδικιων σου επληθυνθησαν αι αμαρτιαι σου εποιησαν ταυτα σοι και εσονται οι διαφορουντες σε εις διαφορημα και παντας τους προνομευοντας σε δωσω εις προνομην

Their children also will be as before, and their congregation will be established before me. I will punish all who oppress them.

Their children H1121 also shall be as aforetime, H6924 and their congregation H5712 shall be established H3559 (NiphImpf) before H6440 me, and I will punish H6485 (QalPerf) all that oppress H3905 (QalPtc) them.

^[37:20] και εισελευσονται οι υιοι αυτων ως το προτερον και τα μαρτυρια αυτων κατα προσωπον μου ορθωθησεται και επισκεψομαι τους θλιβοντας αυτους

Their prince will be one of them, and their ruler will proceed from among them. I will cause him to draw near, and he will approach me; for who is he who has had boldness to approach me?” says Yahweh.

And their nobles H117 shall be of themselves, and their governor H4910 (QalActPtc) shall proceed H3318 (QalImpf) from the midst H7130 of them; and I will cause him to draw near, H7126 (HiphPerf) and he shall approach H5066 (NiphPerf) unto me: for who is this that engaged H6148 (QalPerf) his heart H3820 to approach H5066 (QalInf) unto me? saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord. ^[37:21] και εσονται ισχυροτεροι αυτου επ αυτους και ο αρχων αυτου εξ αυτου εξελευσεται και συναξω αυτους και αποστρεψουσιν προς με οτι τις εστιν ουτος ος εδωκεν την καρδιαν αυτου αποστρεψαι προς με φησιν κυριος

“You shall be my people, and I will be your God.

And ye shall be my people, H5971 and I will be your God. H430

“At that time,” says Yahweh, “I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people.”

At the same time, H6256 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord, H3068 will I be the God H430 of all the families H4940 of Israel, H3478 and they shall be my people. H5971

^[38:1] εν τω χρονω εκεινω ειπεν κυριος εσομαι εις θεον τω γενει ισραηλ και αυτοι εσονται μοι εις λαον

They will come with weeping. I will lead them with petitions. I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they won’t stumble; for I am a father to Israel. Ephraim is my firstborn.

Jeremiah 31:9 Or, favours

^[38:9] εν κλαυθμω εξηλθον και εν παρακλησει αναξω αυτους αυλιζων επι διωρυγας υδατων εν οδω ορθη και ου μη πλανηθωσιν εν αυτη οτι εγενομην τω ισραηλ εις πατερα και εφραιμ πρωτοτοκος μου εστιν

They will come and sing in the height of Zion, and will flow to the goodness of Yahweh, to the grain, to the new wine, to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd. Their soul will be as a watered garden. They will not sorrow any more at all.

^[38:12] και ηξουσιν και ευφρανθησονται εν τω ορει σιων και ηξουσιν επ αγαθα κυριου επι γην σιτου και οινου και καρπων και κτηνων και προβατων και εσται η ψυχη αυτων ωσπερ ξυλον εγκαρπον και ου πεινασουσιν ετι

It will happen that, like as I have watched over them to pluck up and to break down and to overthrow and to destroy and to afflict, so I will watch over them to build and to plant,” says Yahweh.

And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over H8245 (QalPerf) them, to pluck up, H5428 (QalInf) and to break down, H5422 (QalInf) and to throw down, H2040 (QalInf) and to destroy, H6 (HiphInf) and to afflict; H7489 (HiphInf) so will I watch over H8245 (QalImpf) them, to build, H1129 (QalInf) and to plant, H5193 (QalInf) saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord. ^[38:28] και εσται ωσπερ εγρηγορουν επ αυτους καθαιρειν και κακουν ουτως γρηγορησω επ αυτους του οικοδομειν και καταφυτευειν φησιν κυριος

“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” says Yahweh: “I will put my law in their inward parts, and I will write it in their heart. I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

^[38:33] οτι αυτη η διαθηκη ην διαθησομαι τω οικω ισραηλ μετα τας ημερας εκεινας φησιν κυριος διδους δωσω νομους μου εις την διανοιαν αυτων και επι καρδιας αυτων γραψω αυτους και εσομαι αυτοις εις θεον και αυτοι εσονται μοι εις λαον

“If these ordinances depart from before me,” says Yahweh, “then the offspring of Israel also will cease from being a nation before me forever.”

If those ordinances H2706 depart H4185 (QalImpf) from before H6440 me, saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord, H3068 then the seed H2233 of Israel H3478 also shall cease H7673 (QalImpf) from being a nation H1471 before H6440 me for ever. H3117

^[38:36] ουτως ειπεν κυριος ο δους τον ηλιον εις φως της ημερας σεληνην και αστερας εις φως της νυκτος και κραυγην εν θαλασση και εβομβησεν τα κυματα αυτης κυριος παντοκρατωρ ονομα αυτω

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar.

The word H1697 that came to Jeremiah H3414 from the Lord H3068 in the tenth H6224 year H8141 of Zedekiah H6667 king H4428 of Judah, H3063 which was the eighteenth H8083 H6240 H8141 year H8141 of Nebuchadrezzar. H5019

^[39:1] ο λογος ο γενομενος παρα κυριου προς ιερεμιαν εν τω ενιαυτω τω δεκατω τω βασιλει σεδεκια ουτος ενιαυτος οκτωκαιδεκατος τω βασιλει ναβουχοδονοσορ βασιλει βαβυλωνος

Now at that time the king of Babylon’s army was besieging Jerusalem. Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard, which was in the king of Judah’s house.

For then the king H4428 of Babylon’s H894 army H2428 besieged H6696 (QalActPtc) Jerusalem: H3389 and Jeremiah H3414 the prophet H5030 was shut up H3607 (QalPasPtc) in the court H2691 of the prison, H4307 which was in the king H4428 of Judah’s H3063 house. H1004

and he will bring Zedekiah to Babylon, and he will be there until I visit him,” says Yahweh, “though you fight with the Chaldeans, you will not prosper”’?”

and he shall lead H3212 (HiphImpf) Zedekiah H6667 to Babylon, H894 and there shall he be until I visit H6485 (QalInf) him, saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord: H3068 though ye fight H3898 (NiphImpf) with the Chaldeans, H3778 ye shall not prosper. H6743 (HiphImpf)

Jeremiah said, “Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,

And Jeremiah H3414 said, H559 (QalImpf) The word H1697 of the Lord H3068 came unto me, saying, H559 (QalInf)

^[39:6] και λογος κυριου εγενηθη προς ιερεμιαν λεγων

“Behold, siege ramps have been built against the city to take it. The city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, of the famine, and of the pestilence. What you have spoken has happened. Behold, you see it.

^[39:24] ιδου οχλος ηκει εις την πολιν ταυτην συλλαβειν αυτην και η πολις εδοθη εις χειρας χαλδαιων των πολεμουντων αυτην απο προσωπου μαχαιρας και του λιμου ως ελαλησας ουτως εγενετο

^[39:26] και εγενετο λογος κυριου προς με λεγων

“For the children of Israel and the children of Judah have done only that which was evil in my sight from their youth; for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands, says Yahweh.

For the children H1121 of Israel H3478 and the children H1121 of Judah H3063 have only done H6213 (QalActPtc) evil H7451 before H5869 me from their youth: H5271 for the children H1121 of Israel H3478 have only provoked me to anger H3707 (HiphPtc) with the work H4639 of their hands, H3027 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord. ^[39:30] οτι ησαν οι υιοι ισραηλ και οι υιοι ιουδα μονοι ποιουντες το πονηρον κατ οφθαλμους μου εκ νεοτητος αυτων

For this city has been to me a provocation of my anger and of my wrath from the day that they built it even to this day, so that I should remove it from before my face,

^[39:31] οτι επι την οργην μου και επι τον θυμον μου ην η πολις αυτη αφ ης ημερας ωκοδομησαν αυτην και εως της ημερας ταυτης απαλλαξαι αυτην απο προσωπου μου

Then they will be my people, and I will be their God.

^[39:38] και εσονται μοι εις λαον και εγω εσομαι αυτοις εις θεον

Moreover Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah the second time, while he was still locked up in the court of the guard, saying,

^[40:1] και εγενετο λογος κυριου προς ιερεμιαν δευτερον και αυτος ην ετι δεδεμενος εν τη αυλη της φυλακης λεγων

This city will be to me for a name of joy, for praise, and for glory, before all the nations of the earth, which will hear all the good that I do to them, and will fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I provide to it.’”

And it shall be to me a name H8034 of joy, H8342 a praise H8416 and an honour H8597 before all the nations H1471 of the earth, H776 which shall hear H8085 (QalImpf) all the good H2896 that I do H6213 (QalActPtc) unto them: and they shall fear H6342 (QalPerf) and tremble H7264 (QalPerf) for all the goodness H2896 and for all the prosperity H7965 that I procure H6213 (QalActPtc) unto it.

^[40:9] και εσται εις ευφροσυνην και εις αινεσιν και εις μεγαλειοτητα παντι τω λαω της γης οιτινες ακουσονται παντα τα αγαθα α εγω ποιησω και φοβηθησονται και πικρανθησονται περι παντων των αγαθων και περι πασης της ειρηνης ης εγω ποιησω αυτοις

Yahweh of Armies says: “Yet again there will be in this place, which is waste, without man and without animal, and in all its cities, a habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down.

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 of hosts; H6635 Again in this place, H4725 which is desolate H2720 without man H120 and without beast, H929 and in all the cities H5892 thereof, shall be an habitation H5116 of shepherds H7462 (QalActPtc) causing their flocks H6629 to lie down. ^[40:12] ουτως ειπεν κυριος των δυναμεων ετι εσται εν τω τοπω τουτω τω ερημω παρα το μη ειναι ανθρωπον και κτηνος και εν πασαις ταις πολεσιν αυτου καταλυματα ποιμενων κοιταζοντων προβατα

Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,

And the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 came unto Jeremiah, H3414 saying, H559 (QalInf)

“Yahweh says: ‘If you can break my covenant of the day and my covenant of the night, so that there will not be day and night in their time,

Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord; H3068 If ye can break H6565 (HiphImpf) my covenant H1285 of the day, H3117 and my covenant H1285 of the night, H3915 and that there should not be day H3119 and night H3915 in their season; H6256

then my covenant could also be broken with David my servant, that he won’t have a son to reign on his throne; and with the Levitical priests, my ministers.

then may also my covenant H1285 be broken H6565 (HophImpf) with David H1732 my servant, H5650 that he should not have a son H1121 to reign H4427 (QalActPtc) upon his throne; H3678 and with the Levites H3881 the priests, H3548 my ministers. H8334 (PielPtc)

Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,

Moreover the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 came to Jeremiah, H3414 saying, H559 (QalInf)

“Don’t consider what this people has spoken, saying, ‘Has Yahweh cast off the two families which he chose?’ Thus they despise my people, that they should be no more a nation before them.”

Considerest H7200 (QalPerf) thou not what this people H5971 have spoken, H1696 (PielPerf) saying, H559 (QalInf) The two H8147 families H4940 which the Lord H3068 hath chosen, H977 (QalPerf) he hath even cast them off? The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, with all his army, all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion, and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem and against all its cities, saying:

^[41:1] ο λογος ο γενομενος προς ιερεμιαν παρα κυριου και ναβουχοδονοσορ βασιλευς βαβυλωνος και παν το στρατοπεδον αυτου και πασα η γη αρχης αυτου επολεμουν επι ιερουσαλημ και επι πασας τας πολεις ιουδα λεγων

You will die in peace; and with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so they will make a burning for you. They will lament you, saying, “Ah Lord!” for I have spoken the word,’ says Yahweh.”

but thou shalt die H4191 (QalImpf) in peace: H7965 and with the burnings H4955 of thy fathers, H1 the former H7223 kings H4428 which were before H6440 thee, so shall they burn H8313 (QalImpf) odours for thee; and they will lament H5594 (QalImpf) thee, saying, Ah H1945 lord! H113 for I have pronounced H1696 (PielPerf) the word, H1697 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord. H3068

^[41:5] εν ειρηνη αποθανη και ως εκλαυσαν τους πατερας σου τους βασιλευσαντας προτερον σου κλαυσονται και σε και ω αδων κοψονται σε οτι λογον εγω ελαλησα ειπεν κυριος

The word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, after King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people who were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty to them,

This is the word H1697 that came unto Jeremiah H3414 from the Lord, H3068 after H310 that the king H4428 Zedekiah H6667 had made H3772 (QalInf) a covenant H1285 with all the people H5971 which were at Jerusalem, H3389 to proclaim H7121 (QalInf) liberty H1865 unto them;

^[41:8] ο λογος ο γενομενος προς ιερεμιαν παρα κυριου μετα το συντελεσαι τον βασιλεα σεδεκιαν διαθηκην προς τον λαον του καλεσαι αφεσιν

Therefore Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

Therefore the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 came to Jeremiah H3414 from the Lord, H3068 saying, H559 (QalInf)

^[41:12] και εγενηθη λογος κυριου προς ιερεμιαν λεγων

but you turned and profaned my name, and every man caused his servant and every man his handmaid, whom you had let go free at their pleasure, to return. You brought them into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.’”

but ye turned H7725 (QalImpf) and polluted H2490 (PielImpf) my name, H8034 and caused every man H376 his servant, H5650 and every man H376 his handmaid, H8198 whom he had set H7971 (PielPerf) at liberty H2670 at their pleasure, H5315 to return, H7725 (HiphImpf) and brought them into subjection, H3533 (QalImpf) to be unto you for servants H5650 and for handmaids. ^[41:16] και επεστρεψατε και εβεβηλωσατε το ονομα μου του επιστρεψαι εκαστον τον παιδα αυτου και εκαστον την παιδισκην αυτου ους εξαπεστειλατε ελευθερους τη ψυχη αυτων υμιν εις παιδας και παιδισκας

I will even give them into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of those who seek their life. Their dead bodies will be food for the birds of the sky and for the animals of the earth.

I will even give H5414 (QalPerf) them into the hand H3027 of their enemies, H341 (QalActPtc) and into the hand H3027 of them that seek H1245 (PielPtc) their life: H5315 and their dead bodies H5038 shall be for meat H3978 unto the fowls H5775 of the heaven, H8064 and to the beasts H929 of the earth. ^[41:20] και δωσω αυτους τοις εχθροις αυτων και εσται τα θνησιμαια αυτων βρωσις τοις πετεινοις του ουρανου και τοις θηριοις της γης

The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

The word H1697 which came unto Jeremiah H3414 from the Lord H3068 in the days H3117 of Jehoiakim H3079 the son H1121 of Josiah H2977 king H4428 of Judah, H3063 saying, H559 (QalInf)

^[42:1] ο λογος ο γενομενος προς ιερεμιαν παρα κυριου εν ημεραις ιωακιμ βασιλεως ιουδα λεγων

You shall not build a house, sow seed, plant a vineyard, or have any; but all your days you shall dwell in tents, that you may live many days in the land in which you live as nomads.’

neither shall ye build H1129 (QalImpf) house, H1004 nor sow H2232 (QalImpf) seed, H2233 nor plant H5193 (QalImpf) vineyard, H3754 nor have any: but all your days H3117 ye shall dwell H3427 (QalImpf) in tents; H168 that ye may live H2421 (QalImpf) many H7227 days H3117 in H6440 the land H127 where ye be strangers. H1481 (QalActPtc)

^[42:7] και οικιαν ου μη οικοδομησητε και σπερμα ου μη σπειρητε και αμπελων ουκ εσται υμιν οτι εν σκηναις οικησετε πασας τας ημερας υμων οπως αν ζησητε ημερας πολλας επι της γης εφ ης διατριβετε υμεις επ αυτης

and not to build houses for ourselves to dwell in. We have no vineyard, field, or seed;

nor to build H1129 (QalInf) houses H1004 for us to dwell in: H3427 (QalInf) neither have we vineyard, H3754 nor field, H7704 nor seed: H2233

^[42:9] και προς το μη οικοδομειν οικιας του κατοικειν εκει και αμπελων και αγρος και σπερμα ουκ εγενετο ημιν

Then Yahweh’s word came to Jeremiah, saying,

In the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

And it came to pass in the fourth H7243 year H8141 of Jehoiakim H3079 the son H1121 of Josiah H2977 king H4428 of Judah, H3063 that this word H1697 came unto Jeremiah H3414 from the Lord, H3068 saying, H559 (QalInf)
