και αυτη η διαθηκη ην διατηρησεις ανα μεσον εμου και υμων και ανα μεσον του σπερματος σου μετα σε εις τας γενεας αυτων περιτμηθησεται υμων παν αρσενικον

But I will establish my covenant with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year.”

την δε διαθηκην μου στησω προς ισαακ ον τεξεται σοι σαρρα εις τον καιρον τουτον εν τω ενιαυτω τω ετερω

May it be far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn’t the Judge of all the earth do right?”

μηδαμως συ ποιησεις ως το ρημα τουτο του αποκτειναι δικαιον μετα ασεβους και εσται ο δικαιος ως ο ασεβης μηδαμως ο κρινων πασαν την γην ου ποιησεις κρισιν

for we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown so great before Yahweh that Yahweh has sent us to destroy it.”

οτι απολλυμεν ημεις τον τοπον τουτον οτι υψωθη η κραυγη αυτων εναντιον κυριου και απεστειλεν ημας κυριος εκτριψαι αυτην

Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters, and said, “Get up! Get out of this place, for Yahweh will destroy the city!” But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be joking.

εξηλθεν δε λωτ και ελαλησεν προς τους γαμβρους αυτου τους ειληφοτας τας θυγατερας αυτου και ειπεν αναστητε και εξελθατε εκ του τοπου τουτου οτι εκτριβει κυριος την πολιν εδοξεν δε γελοιαζειν εναντιον των γαμβρων αυτου

See now, this city is near to flee to, and it is a little one. Oh let me escape there (isn’t it a little one?), and my soul will live.”

ιδου η πολις αυτη εγγυς του καταφυγειν με εκει η εστιν μικρα εκει σωθησομαι ου μικρα εστιν και ζησεται η ψυχη μου

He said to him, “Behold, I have granted your request concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken.

Didn’t he tell me, ‘She is my sister’? She, even she herself, said, ‘He is my brother.’ I have done this in the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands.”

God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know that in the integrity of your heart you have done this, and I also withheld you from sinning against me. Therefore I didn’t allow you to touch her.

Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you have done this thing?”

Abraham said, “Because I thought, ‘Surely the fear of God is not in this place. They will kill me for my wife’s sake.’

Therefore she said to Abraham, “Cast out this servant and her son! For the son of this servant will not be heir with my son, Isaac.”

Abimelech said, “I don’t know who has done this thing. You didn’t tell me, and I didn’t hear of it until today.”

He said, “You shall take these seven ewe lambs from my hand, that it may be a witness to me, that I have dug this well.”

and said, “ ‘I have sworn by myself,’ says Yahweh, ‘because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son,

λεγων κατ εμαυτου ωμοσα λεγει κυριος ου εινεκεν εποιησας το ρημα τουτο και ουκ εφεισω του υιου σου του αγαπητου δι εμε

The servant said to him, “What if the woman isn’t willing to follow me to this land? Must I bring your son again to the land you came from?”

Yahweh, the God of heaven—who took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, ‘I will give this land to your offspring—he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.

If the woman isn’t willing to follow you, then you shall be clear from this oath to me. Only you shall not bring my son there again.”

The servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.

The children struggled together within her. She said, “If it is like this, why do I live?” She went to inquire of Yahweh.

Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For I will give to you, and to your offspring, all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

και παροικει εν τη γη ταυτη και εσομαι μετα σου και ευλογησω σε σοι γαρ και τω σπερματι σου δωσω πασαν την γην ταυτην και στησω τον ορκον μου ον ωμοσα αβρααμ τω πατρι σου

Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!”

ειπεν δε αυτω αβιμελεχ τι τουτο εποιησας ημιν μικρου εκοιμηθη τις του γενους μου μετα της γυναικος σου και επηγαγες εφ ημας αγνοιαν

Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, “He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death.”

συνεταξεν δε αβιμελεχ παντι τω λαω αυτου λεγων πας ο απτομενος του ανθρωπου τουτου η της γυναικος αυτου θανατου ενοχος εσται

He called it “Shibah”.° Therefore the name of the city is “Beersheba”° to this day.

Genesis 26:33a Shibah means “oath” or “seven”.
Genesis 26:33b Beersheba means “well of the oath” or “well of the seven”

και εκαλεσεν αυτο ορκος δια τουτο ονομα τη πολει φρεαρ ορκου εως της σημερον ημερας

Isaac said to Jacob, “Please come near, that I may feel you, my son, whether you are really my son Esau or not.”

And Isaac H3327 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Jacob, H3290 Come near, H5066 (QalImpv) I pray thee, that I may feel H4184 (QalImpf) thee, my son, H1121 whether thou [be] my very H2088 son H1121 Esau H6215 or not.

ειπεν δε ισαακ τω ιακωβ εγγισον μοι και ψηλαφησω σε τεκνον ει συ ει ο υιος μου ησαυ η ου

He said, “Are you really my son Esau?” He said, “I am.”

και ειπεν συ ει ο υιος μου ησαυ ο δε ειπεν εγω

He said, “Isn’t he rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times. He took away my birthright. See, now he has taken away my blessing.” He said, “Haven’t you reserved a blessing for me?”

και ειπεν δικαιως εκληθη το ονομα αυτου ιακωβ επτερνικεν γαρ με ηδη δευτερον τουτο τα τε πρωτοτοκια μου ειληφεν και νυν ειληφεν την ευλογιαν μου και ειπεν ησαυ τω πατρι αυτου ουχ υπελιπω μοι ευλογιαν πατερ

Behold, I am with you, and will keep you, wherever you go, and will bring you again into this land. For I will not leave you until I have done that which I have spoken of to you.”

και ιδου εγω μετα σου διαφυλασσων σε εν τη οδω παση ου εαν πορευθης και αποστρεψω σε εις την γην ταυτην οτι ου μη σε εγκαταλιπω εως του ποιησαι με παντα οσα ελαλησα σοι

Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, “Surely Yahweh is in this place, and I didn’t know it.”

και εξηγερθη ιακωβ απο του υπνου αυτου και ειπεν οτι εστιν κυριος εν τω τοπω τουτω εγω δε ουκ ηδειν

He was afraid, and said, “How awesome this place is! This is none other than God’s house, and this is the gate of heaven.”

και εφοβηθη και ειπεν ως φοβερος ο τοπος ουτος ουκ εστιν τουτο αλλ η οικος θεου και αυτη η πυλη του ουρανου
