Moses said to Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses’ father-in-law, “We are journeying to the place of which Yahweh said, ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will treat you well; for Yahweh has spoken good concerning Israel.”

και ειπεν μωυσης τω ιωβαβ υιω ραγουηλ τω μαδιανιτη τω γαμβρω μωυση εξαιρομεν ημεις εις τον τοπον ον ειπεν κυριος τουτον δωσω υμιν δευρο μεθ ημων και ευ σε ποιησομεν οτι κυριος ελαλησεν καλα περι ισραηλ

He said to him, “I will not go; but I will depart to my own land, and to my relatives.”

And he said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, I will not go; H3212 (QalImpf) but I will depart H3212 (QalImpf) to mine own land, H776 and to my kindred. H4138

και ειπεν προς αυτον ου πορευσομαι αλλα εις την γην μου και εις την γενεαν μου

Moses said, “Don’t leave us, please; because you know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes.

And he said, H559 (QalImpf) Leave H5800 (QalImpf) us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest H3651 H3045 (QalPerf) how we are to encamp H2583 (QalInf) in the wilderness, H4057 and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes. H5869

και ειπεν μη εγκαταλιπης ημας ου εινεκεν ησθα μεθ ημων εν τη ερημω και εση εν ημιν πρεσβυτης

When the ark went forward, Moses said, “Rise up, Yahweh, and let your enemies be scattered! Let those who hate you flee before you!”

And it came to pass, when the ark H727 set forward, H5265 (QalInf) that Moses H4872 said, H559 (QalImpf) Rise up, H6965 (QalImpv) Lord, H3068 and let thine enemies H341 (QalActPtc) be scattered; H6327 (QalImpf) and let them that hate H8130 (PielPtc) thee flee H5127 (QalImpf) before H6440 thee.

When it rested, he said, “Return, Yahweh, to the ten thousands of the thousands of Israel.”

The mixed multitude that was among them lusted exceedingly; and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, “Who will give us meat to eat?

Moses said to Yahweh, “Why have you treated your servant so badly? Why haven’t I found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people on me?

και ειπεν μωυσης προς κυριον ινα τι εκακωσας τον θεραποντα σου και δια τι ουχ ευρηκα χαριν εναντιον σου επιθειναι την ορμην του λαου τουτου επ εμε

Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them out, that you should tell me, ‘Carry them in your bosom, as a nurse carries a nursing infant, to the land which you swore to their fathers’?

Have I conceived H2029 (QalPerf) all this people? μη εγω εν γαστρι ελαβον παντα τον λαον τουτον η εγω ετεκον αυτους οτι λεγεις μοι λαβε αυτον εις τον κολπον σου ωσει αραι τιθηνος τον θηλαζοντα εις την γην ην ωμοσας τοις πατρασιν αυτων

Where could I get meat to give all these people? For they weep before me, saying, ‘Give us meat, that we may eat.’

ποθεν μοι κρεα δουναι παντι τω λαω τουτω οτι κλαιουσιν επ εμοι λεγοντες δος ημιν κρεα ινα φαγωμεν

Yahweh said to Moses, “Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; and bring them to the Tent of Meeting, that they may stand there with you.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Gather H622 (QalImpv) unto me seventy H7657 men H376 of the elders H2205 of Israel, H3478 whom thou knowest H3045 (QalPerf) to be the elders H2205 of the people, H5971 and officers H7860 (QalActPtc) over them; and bring H3947 (QalPerf) them unto the tabernacle H168 of the congregation, H4150 that they may stand H3320 (HithPerf) there with thee.

και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην συναγαγε μοι εβδομηκοντα ανδρας απο των πρεσβυτερων ισραηλ ους αυτος συ οιδας οτι ουτοι εισιν πρεσβυτεροι του λαου και γραμματεις αυτων και αξεις αυτους προς την σκηνην του μαρτυριου και στησονται εκει μετα σου

“Say to the people, ‘Sanctify yourselves in preparation for tomorrow, and you will eat meat; for you have wept in the ears of Yahweh, saying, “Who will give us meat to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt.” Therefore Yahweh will give you meat, and you will eat.

And say H559 (QalImpf) thou unto the people, H5971 Sanctify H6942 (HithImpv) yourselves against to morrow, H4279 and ye shall eat H398 (QalPerf) flesh: H1320 for ye have wept H1058 (QalPerf) in the ears H241 of the Lord, H3068 saying, H559 (QalInf) Who shall give us flesh H1320 to eat? και τω λαω ερεις αγνισασθε εις αυριον και φαγεσθε κρεα οτι εκλαυσατε εναντι κυριου λεγοντες τις ημας ψωμιει κρεα οτι καλον ημιν εστιν εν αιγυπτω και δωσει κυριος υμιν κρεα φαγειν και φαγεσθε κρεα

but a whole month, until it comes out at your nostrils, and it is loathsome to you; because you have rejected Yahweh who is among you, and have wept before him, saying, “Why did we come out of Egypt?” ’ ”

Numbers 11:20 Heb. month of days

εως μηνος ημερων φαγεσθε εως αν εξελθη εκ των μυκτηρων υμων και εσται υμιν εις χολεραν οτι ηπειθησατε κυριω ος εστιν εν υμιν και εκλαυσατε εναντιον αυτου λεγοντες ινα τι ημιν εξελθειν εξ αιγυπτου

Moses said, “The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand men on foot; and you have said, ‘I will give them meat, that they may eat a whole month.’

And Moses H4872 said, H559 (QalImpf) The people, H5971 among H7130 whom I am, are six H8337 hundred H3967 thousand H505 footmen; H7273 and thou hast said, H559 (QalPerf) I will give H5414 (QalImpf) them flesh, H1320 that they may eat H398 (QalPerf) a whole H3117 month. H2320

και ειπεν μωυσης εξακοσιαι χιλιαδες πεζων ο λαος εν οις ειμι εν αυτοις και συ ειπας κρεα δωσω αυτοις φαγειν και φαγονται μηνα ημερων

Yahweh said to Moses, “Has Yahweh’s hand grown short? Now you will see whether my word will happen to you or not.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Is the Lord’s H3068 hand H3027 waxed short? H7114 (QalImpf) thou shalt see H7200 (QalImpf) now whether my word H1697 shall come to pass H7136 (QalImpf) unto thee or not.

και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην μη χειρ κυριου ουκ εξαρκεσει ηδη γνωσει ει επικαταλημψεται σε ο λογος μου η ου

A young man ran, and told Moses, and said, “Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp!”

And there ran H7323 (QalImpf) a young man, H5288 and told H5046 (HiphImpf) Moses, H4872 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Eldad H419 and Medad H4312 do prophesy H5012 (HithPtc) in the camp. H4264

και προσδραμων ο νεανισκος απηγγειλεν μωυση και ειπεν λεγων ελδαδ και μωδαδ προφητευουσιν εν τη παρεμβολη

Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his chosen men, answered, “My lord Moses, forbid them!”

And Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun, H5126 the servant H8334 (PielPtc) of Moses, H4872 one of his young men, H979 answered H6030 (QalImpf) and said, H559 (QalImpf) My lord H113 Moses, H4872 forbid H3607 (QalImpv) them.

και αποκριθεις ιησους ο του ναυη ο παρεστηκως μωυση ο εκελεκτος ειπεν κυριε μωυση κωλυσον αυτους

Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all Yahweh’s people were prophets, that Yahweh would put his Spirit on them!”

And Moses H4872 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Enviest H7065 (PielPtc) thou for my sake? would God that all the H5414 (QalImpf) Lord’s H3068 people H5971 were prophets, H5030 and that the Lord H3068 would put H5414 (QalImpf) his spirit H7307 upon them!

και ειπεν αυτω μωυσης μη ζηλοις συ μοι και τις δωη παντα τον λαον κυριου προφητας οταν δω κυριος το πνευμα αυτου επ αυτους

They said, “Has Yahweh indeed spoken only with Moses? Hasn’t he spoken also with us?” And Yahweh heard it.

And they said, H559 (QalImpf) Hath the Lord H3068 indeed spoken H1696 (PielPerf) only by Moses? H4872 hath he not spoken H1696 (PielPerf) also by us? And the Lord H3068 heard H8085 (QalImpf) it.

και ειπαν μη μωυση μονω λελαληκεν κυριος ουχι και ημιν ελαλησεν και ηκουσεν κυριος

Yahweh spoke suddenly to Moses, to Aaron, and to Miriam, “You three come out to the Tent of Meeting!” The three of them came out.

And the Lord H3068 spake H559 (QalImpf) suddenly H6597 unto Moses, H4872 and unto Aaron, H175 and unto Miriam, H4813 Come out H3318 (QalImpv) ye three H7969 unto the tabernacle H168 of the congregation. H4150 And they three H7969 came out. H3318 (QalImpf)

και ειπεν κυριος παραχρημα προς μωυσην και μαριαμ και ααρων εξελθατε υμεις οι τρεις εις την σκηνην του μαρτυριου και εξηλθον οι τρεις εις την σκηνην του μαρτυριου

He said, “Now hear my words. If there is a prophet among you, I, Yahweh, will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak with him in a dream.

And he said, H559 (QalImpf) Hear H8085 (QalImpv) now my words: H1697 If there be a prophet H5030 among you, I the Lord H3068 will make myself known H3045 (HithImpf) unto him in a vision, H4759 and will speak H1696 (PielImpf) unto him in a dream. H2472

και ειπεν προς αυτους ακουσατε των λογων μου εαν γενηται προφητης υμων κυριω εν οραματι αυτω γνωσθησομαι και εν υπνω λαλησω αυτω

Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord, please don’t count this sin against us, in which we have done foolishly, and in which we have sinned.

And Aaron H175 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 Alas, H994 my lord, H113 I beseech thee, lay H7896 (QalImpf) not the sin H2403 upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, H2973 (NiphPerf) and wherein we have sinned. H2398 (QalPerf)

και ειπεν ααρων προς μωυσην δεομαι κυριε μη συνεπιθη ημιν αμαρτιαν διοτι ηγνοησαμεν καθοτι ημαρτομεν

Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, “Heal her, God, I beg you!”

And Moses H4872 cried H6817 (QalImpf) unto the Lord, H3068 saying, H559 (QalInf) Heal H7495 (QalImpv) her now, O God, H410 I beseech thee.

και εβοησεν μωυσης προς κυριον λεγων ο θεος δεομαι σου ιασαι αυτην

Yahweh said to Moses, “If her father had but spit in her face, shouldn’t she be ashamed seven days? Let her be shut up outside of the camp seven days, and after that she shall be brought in again.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 If her father H1 had but H3417 (QalInf) spit H3417 (QalPerf) in her face, H6440 should she not be ashamed H3637 (NiphImpf) seven H7651 days? H3117 let her be shut H5462 (NiphImpf) out H2351 from the camp H4264 seven H7651 days, H3117 and after H310 that let her be received H622 (NiphImpf) in again.

και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην ει ο πατηρ αυτης πτυων ενεπτυσεν εις το προσωπον αυτης ουκ εντραπησεται επτα ημερας αφορισθητω επτα ημερας εξω της παρεμβολης και μετα ταυτα εισελευσεται

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

And the Lord H3068 spake H1696 (PielImpf) unto Moses, H4872 saying, H559 (QalInf)

και ελαλησεν κυριος προς μωυσην λεγων

Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said to them, “Go up this way by the South, and go up into the hill country.

And Moses H4872 sent H7971 (QalImpf) them to spy out H8446 (QalInf) the land H776 of Canaan, H3667 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Get you up H5927 (QalImpv) this way southward, H5045 and go up H5927 (QalPerf) into the mountain: H2022

και απεστειλεν αυτους μωυσης κατασκεψασθαι την γην χανααν και ειπεν προς αυτους αναβητε ταυτη τη ερημω και αναβησεσθε εις το ορος

They told him, and said, “We came to the land where you sent us. Surely it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.

And they told H5608 (PielImpf) him, and said, H559 (QalImpf) We came H935 (QalPerf) unto the land H776 whither thou sentest H7971 (QalPerf) us, and surely it floweth H2100 (QalActPtc) with milk H2461 and honey; H1706 and this is the fruit H6529 of it.

και διηγησαντο αυτω και ειπαν ηλθαμεν εις την γην εις ην απεστειλας ημας γην ρεουσαν γαλα και μελι και ουτος ο καρπος αυτης

Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, “Let’s go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it!”

And Caleb H3612 stilled H2013 (HiphImpf) the people H5971 before Moses, H4872 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Let us go up H5927 (QalImpf) at once, H5927 (QalInf) and possess H3423 (QalPerf) it; for we are well able H3201 (QalImpf) to overcome H3201 (QalInf) it.

και κατεσιωπησεν χαλεβ τον λαον προς μωυσην και ειπεν αυτω ουχι αλλα αναβαντες αναβησομεθα και κατακληρονομησομεν αυτην οτι δυνατοι δυνησομεθα προς αυτους

But the men who went up with him said, “We aren’t able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.”

But the men H582 that went up H5927 (QalPerf) with him said, H559 (QalPerf) We be not able H3201 (QalImpf) to go up H5927 (QalInf) against the people; H5971 for they are stronger H2389 than we.

και οι ανθρωποι οι συναναβαντες μετ αυτου ειπαν ουκ αναβαινομεν οτι ου μη δυνωμεθα αναβηναι προς το εθνος οτι ισχυροτερον εστιν ημων μαλλον

They brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out to the children of Israel, saying, “The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people who we saw in it are men of great stature.

και εξηνεγκαν εκστασιν της γης ην κατεσκεψαντο αυτην προς τους υιους ισραηλ λεγοντες την γην ην παρηλθομεν αυτην κατασκεψασθαι γη κατεσθουσα τους κατοικουντας επ αυτης εστιν πας ο λαος ον εωρακαμεν εν αυτη ανδρες υπερμηκεις

All the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron. The whole congregation said to them, “We wish that we had died in the land of Egypt, or that we had died in this wilderness!

και διεγογγυζον επι μωυσην και ααρων παντες οι υιοι ισραηλ και ειπαν προς αυτους πασα η συναγωγη οφελον απεθανομεν εν γη αιγυπτω η εν τη ερημω ταυτη ει απεθανομεν

They said to one another, “Let’s choose a leader, and let’s return into Egypt.”

και ειπαν ετερος τω ετερω δωμεν αρχηγον και αποστρεψωμεν εις αιγυπτον

They spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying, “The land, which we passed through to spy it out, is an exceedingly good land.

και ειπαν προς πασαν συναγωγην υιων ισραηλ λεγοντες η γη ην κατεσκεψαμεθα αυτην αγαθη εστιν σφοδρα σφοδρα

But all the congregation threatened to stone them with stones. Yahweh’s glory appeared in the Tent of Meeting to all the children of Israel.

But all the congregation H5712 bade H559 (QalImpf) stone H7275 (QalInf) them with stones. H68 And the glory H3519 of the Lord H3068 appeared H7200 (NiphPerf) in the tabernacle H168 of the congregation H4150 before all the children H1121 of Israel. H3478

και ειπεν πασα η συναγωγη καταλιθοβολησαι αυτους εν λιθοις και η δοξα κυριου ωφθη εν νεφελη επι της σκηνης του μαρτυριου εν πασι τοις υιοις ισραηλ

Yahweh said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me? How long will they not believe in me, for all the signs which I have worked among them?

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 How long will this people H5971 provoke H5006 (PielImpf) me? and how long will it be ere H3808 they believe H539 (HiphImpf) me, for all the signs H226 which I have shewed H6213 (QalPerf) among H7130 them?

και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην εως τινος παροξυνει με ο λαος ουτος και εως τινος ου πιστευουσιν μοι εν πασιν τοις σημειοις οις εποιησα εν αυτοις

Moses said to Yahweh, “Then the Egyptians will hear it; for you brought up this people in your might from among them.

And Moses H4872 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the Lord, H3068 Then the Egyptians H4714 shall hear H8085 (QalPerf) it, (for thou broughtest up H5927 (HiphPerf) this people H5971 in thy might H3581 from among H7130 them;)

και ειπεν μωυσης προς κυριον και ακουσεται αιγυπτος οτι ανηγαγες τη ισχυι σου τον λαον τουτον εξ αυτων

They will tell it to the inhabitants of this land. They have heard that you Yahweh are among this people; for you Yahweh are seen face to face, and your cloud stands over them, and you go before them, in a pillar of cloud by day, and in a pillar of fire by night.

and they will tell H559 (QalPerf) it to the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of this land: H776 for they have heard H8085 (QalPerf) that thou Lord H3068 art among H7130 this people, H5971 that thou Lord H3068 art seen H7200 (NiphPerf) face H5869 to face, H5869 and that thy cloud H6051 standeth H5975 (QalActPtc) over them, and that thou goest H1980 (QalActPtc) before H6440 them, by day time H3119 in a pillar H5982 of a cloud, H6051 and in a pillar H5982 of fire H784 by night. αλλα και παντες οι κατοικουντες επι της γης ταυτης ακηκοασιν οτι συ ει κυριος εν τω λαω τουτω οστις οφθαλμοις κατ οφθαλμους οπταζη κυριε και η νεφελη σου εφεστηκεν επ αυτων και εν στυλω νεφελης συ πορευη προτερος αυτων την ημεραν και εν στυλω πυρος την νυκτα

Now if you killed this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,

Now if thou shalt kill H4191 (HiphPerf) all this people H5971 as one H259 man, H376 then the nations H1471 which have heard H8085 (QalPerf) the fame H8088 of thee will speak, H559 (QalPerf) saying, H559 (QalInf)

και εκτριψεις τον λαον τουτον ωσει ανθρωπον ενα και ερουσιν τα εθνη οσοι ακηκοασιν το ονομα σου λεγοντες

Now please let the power of the Lord^§ be great, according as you have spoken, saying,

και νυν υψωθητω η ισχυς σου κυριε ον τροπον ειπας λεγων

Yahweh said, “I have pardoned according to your word;

And the Lord H3068 said, H559 (QalImpf) I have pardoned H5545 (QalPerf) according to thy word: H1697

και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην ιλεως αυτοις ειμι κατα το ρημα σου

Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

And the Lord H3068 spake H1696 (PielImpf) unto Moses H4872 and unto Aaron, H175 saying, H559 (QalInf)

και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην και ααρων λεγων

Tell them, ‘As I live, says Yahweh, surely as you have spoken in my ears, so I will do to you.

Say H559 (QalImpv) unto them, As truly as H3808 I live, H2416 saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord, H3068 as ye have spoken H1696 (PielPerf) in mine ears, H241 so will I do H6213 (QalImpf) to you:

ειπον αυτοις ζω εγω λεγει κυριος η μην ον τροπον λελαληκατε εις τα ωτα μου ουτως ποιησω υμιν

But I will bring in your little ones that you said should be captured or killed, and they shall know the land which you have rejected.

But your little ones, H2945 which ye said H559 (QalPerf) should be a prey, H957 them will I bring in, H935 (HiphPerf) and they shall know H3045 (QalPerf) the land H776 which ye have despised. H3988 (QalPerf)

και τα παιδια α ειπατε εν διαρπαγη εσεσθαι εισαξω αυτους εις την γην και κληρονομησουσιν την γην ην υμεις απεστητε απ αυτης

They rose up early in the morning and went up to the top of the mountain, saying, “Behold, we are here, and will go up to the place which Yahweh has promised; for we have sinned.”

And they rose up early H7925 (HiphImpf) in the morning, H1242 and gat them up H5927 (QalImpf) into the top H7218 of the mountain, H2022 saying, H559 (QalInf) Lo, H2009 we be here, and will go up H5927 (QalPerf) unto the place H4725 which the Lord H3068 hath promised: H559 (QalPerf) for we have sinned. και ορθρισαντες το πρωι ανεβησαν εις την κορυφην του ορους λεγοντες ιδου οιδε ημεις αναβησομεθα εις τον τοπον ον ειπεν κυριος οτι ημαρτομεν

Moses said, “Why now do you disobey the commandment of Yahweh, since it shall not prosper?

And Moses H4872 said, H559 (QalImpf) Wherefore now do ye transgress H5674 (QalActPtc) the commandment H6310 of the Lord? H3068 but it shall not prosper. H6743 (QalImpf)

και ειπεν μωυσης ινα τι υμεις παραβαινετε το ρημα κυριου ουκ ευοδα εσται υμιν

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

And the Lord H3068 spake H1696 (PielImpf) unto Moses, H4872 saying, H559 (QalInf)

και ειπεν κυριος προς μωυσην λεγων

“Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘When you have come into the land of your habitations, which I give to you,

Speak H1696 (PielImpv) unto the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 and say H559 (QalPerf) unto them, When ye be come H935 (QalImpf) into the land H776 of your habitations, H4186 which I give H5414 (QalActPtc) unto you,

λαλησον τοις υιοις ισραηλ και ερεις προς αυτους οταν εισελθητε εις την γην της κατοικησεως υμων ην εγω διδωμι υμιν

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

και ελαλησεν κυριος προς μωυσην λεγων

“Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘When you come into the land where I bring you,

λαλησον τοις υιοις ισραηλ και ερεις προς αυτους εν τω εισπορευεσθαι υμας εις την γην εις ην εγω εισαγω υμας εκει

Yahweh said to Moses, “The man shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him with stones outside of the camp.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 The man H376 shall be surely H4191 (QalInf) put to death: H4191 (HophImpf) all the congregation H5712 shall stone H7275 (QalInf) him with stones H68 without H2351 the camp. H4264

και ελαλησεν κυριος προς μωυσην λεγων θανατω θανατουσθω ο ανθρωπος λιθοβολησατε αυτον λιθοις πασα η συναγωγη
