And yet, Jehovah liveth, God of Israel, who hath kept me back from doing evil with thee, for unless thou hadst hasted, and dost come to meet me, surely there had not been left to Nabal till the light of the morning, of those sitting on the wall.’

So David received from her hand that which she had brought him. Then he said to her, “Go up in peace to your house. Behold, I have listened to your voice and have granted your request.”

So David H1732 received H3947 (QalImpf) of her hand H3027 [that] which she had brought H935 (HiphPerf) him, and said H559 (QalPerf) unto her, Go up H5927 (QalImpv) in peace H7965 to thine house; H1004 see, H7200 (QalImpv) I have hearkened H8085 (QalPerf) to thy voice, H6963 and have accepted H5375 (QalImpf) thy person. And David receiveth from her hand that which she hath brought to him, and to her he hath said, ‘Go up in peace to thy house; see, I have hearkened to thy voice, and accept thy face.’

When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Blessed is Yahweh, who has pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and has kept back his servant from evil. Yahweh has returned the evildoing of Nabal on his own head.” David sent and spoke concerning Abigail, to take her to himself as wife.

And when David H1732 heard H8085 (QalImpf) that Nabal H5037 was dead, H4191 (QalPerf) he said, H559 (QalImpf) Blessed H1288 (QalPasPtc) [be] the Lord, H3068 that hath pleaded H7378 (QalPerf) the cause H7379 of my reproach H2781 from the hand H3027 of Nabal, H5037 and hath kept H2820 (QalPerf) his servant H5650 from evil: H7451 for the Lord H3068 hath returned H7725 (HiphPerf) the wickedness H7451 of Nabal H5037 upon his own head. H7218 And David H1732 sent H7971 (QalImpf) and communed H1696 (PielImpf) with Abigail, H26 to take H3947 (QalInf) her to him to wife. H802

and David heareth that Nabal is dead, and saith, ‘Blessed is Jehovah who hath pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and His servant hath kept back from evil, and the wickedness of Nabal hath Jehovah turned back on his own head;’ and David sendeth and speaketh with Abigail, to take her to him for a wife.

Now Saul had given Michal his daughter, David’s wife, to Palti the son of Laish, who was of Gallim.

But Saul H7586 had given H5414 (QalPerf) Michal H4324 his daughter, H1323 David’s H1732 wife, H802 to Phalti H6406 the son H1121 of Laish, H3919 which [was] of Gallim. H1554

and Saul gave Michal his daughter, wife to David, to Phalti son of Laish, who is of Gallim.

Saul encamped in the hill of Hachilah, which is before the desert, by the way. But David stayed in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

And Saul H7586 pitched H2583 (QalImpf) in the hill H1389 of Hachilah, H2444 which [is] before H6440 Jeshimon, H3452 by the way. H1870 But David H1732 abode H3427 (QalActPtc) in the wilderness, H4057 and he saw H7200 (QalImpf) that Saul H7586 came H935 (QalPerf) after H310 him into the wilderness. H4057

And Saul encampeth in the height of Hachilah, which is on the front of the desert, by the way, and David is abiding in the wilderness, and he seeth that Saul hath come after him in to the wilderness;

Then David arose and came to the place where Saul had encamped; and David saw the place where Saul lay, with Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his army. Saul lay within the place of the wagons, and the people were encamped around him.

And David H1732 arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and came H935 (QalImpf) to the place H4725 where Saul H7586 had pitched: H2583 (QalPerf) and David H1732 beheld H7200 (QalImpf) the place H4725 where Saul H7586 lay, H7901 (QalPerf) and Abner H74 the son H1121 of Ner, H5369 the captain H8269 of his host: H6635 and Saul H7586 lay H7901 (QalActPtc) in the trench, H4570 and the people H5971 pitched H2583 (QalActPtc) round about H5439 him.

and David riseth, and cometh in unto the place where Saul hath encamped, and David seeth the place where Saul hath lain, and Abner son of Ner, head of his host, and Saul is lying in the path, and the people are encamping round about him.

This thing isn’t good that you have done. As Yahweh lives, you are worthy to die, because you have not kept watch over your lord, Yahweh’s anointed. Now see where the king’s spear is, and the jar of water that was at his head.”

Not good is this thing which thou hast done; Jehovah liveth, but ye are sons of death, in that ye have not watched over your lord, over the anointed of Jehovah; and now, see where the king’s spear is, and the cruse of water which is at his bolster.’

Then Saul said, “I have sinned. Return, my son David; for I will no more do you harm, because my life was precious in your eyes today. Behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.”

Then said H559 (QalImpf) Saul, H7586 I have sinned: H2398 (QalPerf) return, H7725 (QalImpv) my son H1121 David: H1732 for I will no more do thee harm, H7489 (HiphImpf) because my soul H5315 was precious H3365 (QalPerf) in thine eyes H5869 this day: H3117 behold, I have played the fool, H5528 (HiphPerf) and have erred H7686 (QalImpf) exceedingly. And Saul saith, ‘I have sinned; turn back, my son David, for I do evil to thee no more, because that my soul hath been precious in thine eyes this day; lo, I have acted foolishly, and do err very greatly.’

David arose and passed over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

And David H1732 arose, H6965 (QalImpf) and he passed over H5674 (QalImpf) with the six H8337 hundred H3967 men H376 that [were] with him unto Achish, H397 the son H1121 of Maoch, H4582 king H4428 of Gath. H1661

And David riseth, and passeth over, he and six hundred men who are with him, unto Achish son of Maoch king of Gath;

David said to Achish, “Therefore you will know what your servant can do.” Achish said to David, “Therefore I will make you my bodyguard forever.”

And David H1732 said H559 (QalImpf) to Achish, H397 Surely H3651 thou shalt know H3045 (QalImpf) what thy servant H5650 can do. H6213 (QalImpf) And Achish H397 said H559 (QalImpf) to David, H1732 Therefore will I make H7760 (QalImpf) thee keeper H8104 (QalActPtc) of mine head H7218 for ever. H3117

And David saith unto Achish, ‘Therefore-thou dost know that which thy servant dost do.’ And Achish saith unto David, ‘Therefore-keeper of my head I do appoint thee all the days.’

Saul disguised himself and put on other clothing, and went, he and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night. Then he said, “Please consult for me by the familiar spirit, and bring me up whomever I shall name to you.”

And Saul H7586 disguised H2664 (HithImpf) himself, and put on H3847 (QalImpf) other H312 raiment, H899 and he went, H3212 (QalImpf) and two H8147 men H582 with him, and they came H935 (QalImpf) to the woman H802 by night: H3915 and he said, H559 (QalImpf) I pray thee, divine H7080 (QalImpv) unto me by the familiar spirit, H178 and bring me [him] up, H5927 (HiphImpv) whom I shall name H559 (QalImpf) unto thee.

And Saul disguiseth himself and putteth on other garments, and goeth, he and two of the men with him, and they come in unto the woman by night, and he saith, ‘Divine, I pray thee, to me by the familiar spirit, and cause to come up to me him whom I say unto thee.’

The woman said to him, “Behold, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off those who have familiar spirits and the wizards out of the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?”

And the woman H802 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Behold, thou knowest H3045 (QalPerf) what Saul H7586 hath done, H6213 (QalPerf) how he hath cut off H3772 (HiphPerf) those that have familiar spirits, H178 and the wizards, H3049 out of the land: H776 wherefore then layest thou a snare H5367 (HithPtc) for my life, H5315 to cause me to die? And the woman saith unto him, ‘Lo, thou hast known that which Saul hath done, that he hath cut off those having familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land; and why art thou laying a snare for my soul-to put me to death?’

Because you didn’t obey Yahweh’s voice, and didn’t execute his fierce wrath on Amalek, therefore Yahweh has done this thing to you today.

Because H834 thou obeyedst H8085 (QalPerf) not the voice H6963 of the Lord, H3068 nor executedst H6213 (QalPerf) his fierce H2740 wrath H639 upon Amalek, H6002 therefore hath the Lord H3068 done H6213 (QalPerf) this thing H1697 unto thee this day. H3117

Because thou hast not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, nor didst the fierceness of His anger on Amalek-therefore this thing hath Jehovah done to thee this day;

The woman came to Saul and saw that he was very troubled, and said to him, “Behold, your servant has listened to your voice, and I have put my life in my hand, and have listened to your words which you spoke to me.

And the woman H802 came H935 (QalImpf) unto Saul, H7586 and saw H7200 (QalImpf) that he was sore H3966 troubled, H926 (NiphPerf) and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Behold, thine handmaid H8198 hath obeyed H8085 (QalPerf) thy voice, H6963 and I have put H7760 (QalImpf) my life H5315 in my hand, H3709 and have hearkened H8085 (QalImpf) unto thy words H1697 which thou spakest H1696 (PielPerf) unto me.

And the woman cometh in unto Saul, and seeth that he hath been greatly troubled, and saith unto him, ‘Lo, thy maid-servant hath hearkened to thy voice, and I put my soul in my hand, and I obey thy words which thou hast spoken unto me;

Now the Philistines gathered together all their armies to Aphek; and the Israelites encamped by the spring which is in Jezreel.

Now the Philistines H6430 gathered together H6908 (QalImpf) all their armies H4264 to Aphek: H663 and the Israelites H3478 pitched H2583 (QalActPtc) by a fountain H5869 which [is] in Jezreel. H3157

And the Philistines gather all their camps to Aphek, and the Israelites are encamping at a fountain which is in Jezreel,

Then the princes of the Philistines said, “What about these Hebrews?” Achish said to the princes of the Philistines, “Isn’t this David, the servant of Saul the king of Israel, who has been with me these days, or rather these years? I have found no fault in him since he fell away until today.”

Then said H559 (QalImpf) the princes H8269 of the Philistines, H6430 What [do] these Hebrews H5680 [here]? And Achish H397 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the princes H8269 of the Philistines, H6430 [Is] not this David, H1732 the servant H5650 of Saul H7586 the king H4428 of Israel, H3478 which hath been with me these days, H3117 or these years, H8141 and I have found H4672 (QalPerf) no fault H3972 in him since H3117 he fell H5307 (QalInf) [unto me] unto this day? And the heads of the Philistines say, ‘What are these Hebrews?’ and Achish saith unto the heads of the Philistines, ‘Is not this David servant of Saul king of Israel, who hath been with me these days or these years, and I have not found in him anything wrong from the day of his falling away till this day.’

But the princes of the Philistines were angry with him; and the princes of the Philistines said to him, “Make the man return, that he may go back to his place where you have appointed him, and let him not go down with us to battle, lest in the battle he become an adversary to us. For with what should this fellow reconcile himself to his lord? Should it not be with the heads of these men?

And the princes H8269 of the Philistines H6430 were wroth H7107 (QalImpf) with him; and the princes H8269 of the Philistines H6430 said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Make H7725 this fellow H376 return, H7725 (HiphImpv) that he may go again H7725 (QalImpf) to his place H4725 which thou hast appointed H6485 (HiphPerf) him, and let him not go down H3381 (QalImpf) with us to battle, H4421 lest in the battle H4421 he be an adversary H7854 to us: for wherewith should he reconcile H7521 (HithImpf) himself unto his master? And the heads of the Philistines are wroth against him, and the heads of the Philistines say to him, ‘Send back the man, and he doth turn back unto his place whither thou hast appointed him, and doth not go down with us into battle, and is not to us for an adversary in battle; and wherewith doth this one reconcile himself unto his lord-is it not with the heads of those men?’

Isn’t this David, of whom people sang to one another in dances, saying, ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands’?”

[Is] not this David, H1732 of whom they sang H6030 (QalImpf) one to another in dances, H4246 saying, H559 (QalInf) Saul H7586 slew H5221 (HiphPerf) his thousands, H505 and David H1732 his ten thousands? H7233

Is not this David, of whom they answer in choruses, saying, Saul hath smitten among his thousands, and David among his myriads?’

David said to Achish, “But what have I done? What have you found in your servant so long as I have been before you to this day, that I may not go and fight against the enemies of my lord the king?”

And David H1732 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Achish, H397 But what have I done? H6213 (QalPerf) and what hast thou found H4672 (QalPerf) in thy servant H5650 so long as H3117 I have been with thee H6440 unto this day, H3117 that I may not go H935 (QalImpf) fight H3898 (NiphPerf) against the enemies H341 (QalActPtc) of my lord H113 the king? And David saith unto Achish, ‘But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant from the day that I have been before thee till this day-that I go not in and have fought against the enemies of my lord the king?’

Therefore now rise up early in the morning with the servants of your lord who have come with you; and as soon as you are up early in the morning and have light, depart.”

Wherefore now rise up early H7925 (HiphImpv) in the morning H1242 with thy master’s H113 servants H5650 that are come H935 (QalPerf) with thee: and as soon as ye be up early H7925 (HiphPerf) in the morning, H1242 and have light, H215 (QalPerf) depart. H3212 (QalImpv)

and now, rise thou early in the morning, and the servants of thy lord who have come with thee, when ye have risen early in the morning, and have light, then go ye.’

and had taken captive the women and all who were in it, both small and great. They didn’t kill any, but carried them off and went their way.

And had taken the women H802 captives, H7617 (QalImpf) that [were] therein: they slew H4191 (HiphPerf) not any, H376 either great H1419 or small, H6996 but carried [them] away, H5090 (QalImpf) and went H3212 (QalImpf) on their way. H1870

and they take captive the women who are in it; from small unto great they have not put any one to death, and they lead away, and go on their way.

Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voice and wept until they had no more power to weep.

Then David H1732 and the people H5971 that [were] with him lifted up H5375 (QalImpf) their voice H6963 and wept, H1058 (QalImpf) until they had no more power H3581 to weep. H1058 (QalInf)

And David lifteth up-and the people who are with him-their voice and weep, till that they have no power to weep.

So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those who were left behind stayed.

So David H1732 went, H3212 (QalImpf) he and the six H8337 hundred H3967 men H376 that [were] with him, and came H935 (QalImpf) to the brook H5158 Besor, H1308 where those that were left behind H3498 (NiphPtc) stayed. H5975 (QalPerf)

And David goeth on, he and six hundred men who are with him, and they come in unto the brook of Besor, and those left have stood still,

But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so faint that they couldn’t go over the brook Besor.

But David H1732 pursued, H7291 (QalImpf) he and four H702 hundred H3967 men: H376 for two hundred H3967 abode behind, H5975 (QalImpf) which were so faint H6296 (PielPerf) that they could not go over H5674 (QalInf) the brook H5158 Besor. H1308

and David pursueth, he and four hundred men, (and two hundred men stand still who have been too faint to pass over the brook of Besor),

We made a raid on the South of the Cherethites, and on that which belongs to Judah, and on the South of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.”

We made an invasion H6584 (QalPerf) [upon] the south H5045 of the Cherethites, H3774 and upon [the coast] which [belongeth] to Judah, H3063 and upon the south H5045 of Caleb; H3612 and we burned H8313 (QalPerf) Ziklag H6860 with fire. H784

we pushed to the south of the Cherethite, and against that which is to Judah, and against the south of Caleb, and Ziklag we burned with fire.’

David struck them from the twilight even to the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped from there, except four hundred young men who rode on camels and fled.

And David H1732 smote H5221 (HiphImpf) them from the twilight H5399 even unto the evening H6153 of the next day: H4283 and there escaped H4422 (NiphPerf) not a man H376 of them, save four H702 hundred H3967 young H5288 men, H376 which rode H7392 (QalPerf) upon camels, H1581 and fled. And David smiteth them from the twilight even unto the evening of the morrow, and there hath not escaped of them a man, except four hundred young men who have ridden on the camels, and are fled.

David came to the two hundred men, who were so faint that they could not follow David, whom also they had made to stay at the brook Besor; and they went out to meet David, and to meet the people who were with him. When David came near to the people, he greeted them.

And David H1732 came H935 (QalImpf) to the two hundred H3967 men, H582 which were so faint H6296 (PielPerf) that they could not follow H3212 (QalInf) H310 David, H1732 whom they had made also to abide H3427 (HiphImpf) at the brook H5158 Besor: H1308 and they went forth H3318 (QalImpf) to meet H7125 (QalInf) David, H1732 and to meet H7125 (QalInf) the people H5971 that [were] with him: and when David H1732 came near H5066 (QalImpf) to the people, H5971 he saluted H7592 (QalImpf) H7965 them.

And David cometh in unto the two hundred men who were too faint to go after David, and whom they cause to abide at the brook of Besor, and they go out to meet David, and to meet the people who are with him, and David approacheth the people, and asketh of them of welfare.

Then all the wicked men and worthless fellows of those who went with David answered and said, “Because they didn’t go with us, we will not give them anything of the plunder that we have recovered, except to every man his wife and his children, that he may lead them away and depart.”

Then answered H6030 (QalImpf) all the wicked H7451 men H376 and [men] of Belial, H1100 of those H582 that went H1980 (QalPerf) with David, H1732 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Because they went H1980 (QalPerf) not with us, we will not give H5414 (QalImpf) them [ought] of the spoil H7998 that we have recovered, H5337 (HiphPerf) save to every man H376 his wife H802 and his children, H1121 that they may lead [them] away, H5090 (QalImpf) and depart. H3212 (QalImpf)

And every bad and worthless man, of the men who have gone with David, answereth, yea, they say, ‘Because that they have not gone with us we do not give to them of the spoil which we have delivered, except each his wife and his children, and they lead away and go.

Then David said, “Do not do so, my brothers, with that which Yahweh has given to us, who has preserved us, and delivered the troop that came against us into our hand.

Then said H559 (QalImpf) David, H1732 Ye shall not do so, H6213 (QalImpf) my brethren, H251 with that which the Lord H3068 hath given H5414 (QalPerf) us, who hath preserved H8104 (QalImpf) us, and delivered H5414 (QalImpf) the company H1416 that came H935 (QalActPtc) against us into our hand. And David saith, ‘Ye do not do so, my brethren, with that which Jehovah hath given to us, and He doth preserve us, and doth give the troop which cometh against us into our hand;

He sent it to those who were in Bethel, to those who were in Ramoth of the South, to those who were in Jattir,

To [them] H834 which [were] in Bethel, H1008 and to [them] which [were] in south H5045 Ramoth, H7418 and to [them] which [were] in Jattir, H3492

to those in Beth-El, and to those in South Ramoth, and to those in Jattir,

to those who were in Aroer, to those who were in Siphmoth, to those who were in Eshtemoa,

And to [them] which [were] in Aroer, H6177 and to [them] which [were] in Siphmoth, H8224 and to [them] which [were] in Eshtemoa, H851

and to those in Aroer, and to those in Siphmoth, and to those in Eshtemoa,

to those who were in Racal, to those who were in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, to those who were in the cities of the Kenites,

And to [them] which [were] in Rachal, H7403 and to [them] which [were] in the cities H5892 of the Jerahmeelites, H3397 and to [them] which [were] in the cities H5892 of the Kenites, H7017

and to those in Rachal, and to those in the cities of the Jerahmeelites, and to those in the cities of the Kenites,

to those who were in Hormah, to those who were in Borashan, to those who were in Athach,

And to [them] which [were] in Hormah, H2767 and to [them] which [were] in Chorashan, H3565 and to [them] which [were] in Athach, H6269

and to those in Hormah, and to those in Chor-Ashan, and to those in Athach,

to those who were in Hebron, and to all the places where David himself and his men used to stay.

And to [them] which [were] in Hebron, H2275 and to all the places H4725 where David H1732 himself and his men H582 were wont to haunt. H1980 (HithPerf)

and to those in Hebron, and to all the places where David had gone up and down, he and his men.

When the men of Israel who were on the other side of the valley, and those who were beyond the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.

And when the men H582 of Israel H3478 that [were] on the other side H5676 of the valley, H6010 and [they] that [were] on the other side H5676 Jordan, H3383 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that the men H582 of Israel H3478 fled, H5127 (QalPerf) and that Saul H7586 and his sons H1121 were dead, H4191 (QalPerf) they forsook H5800 (QalImpf) the cities, H5892 and fled; H5127 (QalImpf) and the Philistines H6430 came H935 (QalImpf) and dwelt H3427 (QalImpf) in them.

And they see-the men of Israel, who are beyond the valley, and who are beyond the Jordan-that the men of Israel have fled, and that Saul and his sons have died, and they forsake the cities and flee, and Philistines come in, and dwell in them.

When the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul,

And when the inhabitants H3427 (QalActPtc) of Jabeshgilead H3003 H1568 heard H8085 (QalImpf) of that which the Philistines H6430 had done H6213 (QalPerf) to Saul; H7586

And they hear regarding it-the inhabitants of Jabesh-Gilead-that which the Philistines have done to Saul,

So I stood beside him and killed him, because I was sure that he could not live after he had fallen. I took the crown that was on his head and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them here to my lord.”

So I stood H5975 (QalImpf) upon him, and slew H4191 (PoleImpf) him, because I was sure H3045 (QalPerf) that he could not live H2421 (QalImpf) after H310 that he was fallen: H5307 (QalInf) and I took H3947 (QalImpf) the crown H5145 that [was] upon his head, H7218 and the bracelet H685 that [was] on his arm, H2220 and have brought H935 (HiphImpf) them hither unto my lord. And I stand over him, and put him to death, for I knew that he doth not live after his falling, and I take the crown which is on his head, and the bracelet which is on his arm, and bring them in unto my lord hither.’

Then David took hold on his clothes and tore them; and all the men who were with him did likewise.

Then David H1732 took hold H2388 (HiphImpf) on his clothes, H899 and rent H7167 (QalImpf) them; and likewise all the men H582 that [were] with him:

And David taketh hold on his garments, and rendeth them, and also all the men who are with him,

David brought up his men who were with him, every man with his household. They lived in the cities of Hebron.

And his men H582 that [were] with him did David H1732 bring up, H5927 (HiphPerf) every man H376 with his household: H1004 and they dwelt H3427 (QalImpf) in the cities H5892 of Hebron. H2275

and his men who are with him hath David brought up-a man and his household-and they dwell in the cities of Hebron.

The men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. They told David, “The men of Jabesh Gilead were those who buried Saul.”

And the men of Judah come, and anoint there David for king over the house of Judah; and they declare to David, saying, ‘The men of Jabesh-Gilead are they who buried Saul.’

David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, “Blessed are you by Yahweh, that you have shown this kindness to your lord, even to Saul, and have buried him.

And David H1732 sent H7971 (QalImpf) messengers H4397 unto the men H582 of Jabeshgilead, H3003 H1568 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Blessed H1288 (QalPasPtc) [be] ye of the Lord, H3068 that ye have shewed H6213 (QalPerf) this kindness H2617 unto your lord, H113 [even] unto Saul, H7586 and have buried H6912 (QalImpf) him.

And David sendeth messengers unto the men of Jabesh-Gilead, and saith unto them, ‘Blessed are ye of Jehovah, in that ye have done this kindness with your lord, with Saul, that ye bury him.

Now may Yahweh show loving kindness and truth to you. I also will reward you for this kindness, because you have done this thing.

And now the Lord H3068 shew H6213 (QalImpf) kindness H2617 and truth H571 unto you: and I also will requite H6213 (QalImpf) you this kindness, H2896 because ye have done H6213 (QalPerf) this thing. H1697

‘And, now, Jehovah doth with you kindness and truth, and also, I do with you this good because ye have done this thing;

They each caught his opponent by the head and thrust his sword in his fellow’s side; so they fell down together. Therefore that place in Gibeon was called Helkath Hazzurim.°

2 Samuel 2:16 “Helkath Hazzurim” means “field of daggers”.

And they caught H2388 (HiphImpf) every one H376 his fellow H7453 by the head, H7218 and [thrust] his sword H2719 in his fellow’s H7453 side; H6654 so they fell down H5307 (QalImpf) together: H3162 wherefore that place H4725 was called H7121 (QalImpf) Helkathhazzurim, H2521 which [is] in Gibeon. H1391

And they lay hold, each on the head of his companion, and his sword is in the side of his companion, and they fall together, and one calleth that place Helkath-Hazzurim, which is in Gibeon,

The three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab, Abishai, and Asahel. Asahel was as light of foot as a wild gazelle.

And there were three H7969 sons H1121 of Zeruiah H6870 there, Joab, H3097 and Abishai, H52 and Asahel: H6214 and Asahel H6214 [was as] light H7031 of foot H7272 as a H259 wild H7704 roe. H6643

And there are there three sons of Zeruiah, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel, and Asahel is light on his feet, as one of the roes which are in the field,

However, he refused to turn away. Therefore Abner with the back end of the spear struck him in the body, so that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there and died in the same place. As many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.

Howbeit he refused H3985 (PielImpf) to turn aside: H5493 (QalInf) wherefore Abner H74 with the hinder end H310 of the spear H2595 smote H5221 (HiphImpf) him under H413 the fifth H2570 [rib], that the spear H2595 came out H3318 (QalImpf) behind H310 him; and he fell down H5307 (QalImpf) there, and died H4191 (QalImpf) in the same place: H8478 and it came to pass, [that] as many as came H935 (QalActPtc) to the place H4725 where Asahel H6214 fell down H5307 (QalPerf) and died H4191 (QalImpf) stood still. And he refuseth to turn aside, and Abner smiteth him with the hinder part of the spear unto the fifth rib, and the spear cometh out from behind him, and he falleth there, and dieth under it; and it cometh to pass, every one who hath come unto the place where Asahel hath fallen and dieth-they stand still.

But Joab and Abishai pursued Abner. The sun went down when they had come to the hill of Ammah, that lies before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.

Joab H3097 also and Abishai H52 pursued H7291 (QalImpf) after H310 Abner: H74 and the sun H8121 went down H935 (QalPerf) when they were come H935 (QalPerf) to the hill H1389 of Ammah, H522 that [lieth] before H6440 Giah H1520 by the way H1870 of the wilderness H4057 of Gibeon. H1391

And Joab and Abishai pursue after Abner, and the sun hath gone in, and they have come in unto the height of Ammah, which is on the front of Giah, the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.

They took up Asahel and buried him in the tomb of his father, which was in Bethlehem. Joab and his men went all night, and the day broke on them at Hebron.

And they took up H5375 (QalImpf) Asahel, H6214 and buried H6912 (QalImpf) him in the sepulchre H6913 of his father, H1 which [was in] Bethlehem. H1035 And Joab H3097 and his men H582 went H3212 (QalImpf) all night, H3915 and they came to Hebron H2275 at break of day. H215 (NiphImpf)

And they lift up Asahel, and bury him in the burying-place of his father, which is in Beth-Lehem, and they go all the night-Joab and his men-and it is light to them in Hebron.

David sent messengers to Ishbosheth, Saul’s son, saying, “Deliver me my wife Michal, whom I was given to marry for one hundred foreskins of the Philistines.”

And David H1732 sent H7971 (QalImpf) messengers H4397 to Ishbosheth H378 Saul’s H7586 son, H1121 saying, H559 (QalInf) Deliver H5414 (QalImpv) [me] my wife H802 Michal, H4324 which I espoused H781 (PielPerf) to me for an hundred H3967 foreskins H6190 of the Philistines. H6430

And David sendeth messengers unto Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, saying, ‘Give up my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself with a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.’

So Abner came to David to Hebron, and twenty men with him. David made Abner and the men who were with him a feast.

So Abner H74 came H935 (QalImpf) to David H1732 to Hebron, H2275 and twenty H6242 men H582 with him. And David H1732 made H6213 (QalImpf) Abner H74 and the men H582 that [were] with him a feast. H4960

and Abner cometh in unto David, to Hebron, and with him twenty men, and David maketh for Abner, and for the men who are with him, a banquet.

So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel at Gibeon in the battle.

So Joab H3097 and Abishai H52 his brother H251 slew H2026 (QalPerf) Abner, H74 because he had slain H4191 (HiphPerf) their brother H251 Asahel H6214 at Gibeon H1391 in the battle. H4421

And Joab and Abishai his brother slew Abner because that he put to death Asahel their brother, in Gibeon, in battle.
