Yahweh’s anger burned against Moses, and he said, “What about Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Also, behold, he is coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.

και θυμωθεις οργη κυριος επι μωυσην ειπεν ουκ ιδου ααρων ο αδελφος σου ο λευιτης επισταμαι οτι λαλων λαλησει αυτος σοι και ιδου αυτος εξελευσεται εις συναντησιν σοι και ιδων σε χαρησεται εν εαυτω

Yahweh said to Moses, “When you go back into Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in your hand, but I will harden his heart and he will not let the people go.

ειπεν δε κυριος προς μωυσην πορευομενου σου και αποστρεφοντος εις αιγυπτον ορα παντα τα τερατα α εδωκα εν ταις χερσιν σου ποιησεις αυτα εναντιον φαραω εγω δε σκληρυνω την καρδιαν αυτου και ου μη εξαποστειλη τον λαον

Pharaoh said, “Who is Yahweh, that I should listen to his voice to let Israel go? I don’t know Yahweh, and moreover I will not let Israel go.”

και ειπεν φαραω τις εστιν ου εισακουσομαι της φωνης αυτου ωστε εξαποστειλαι τους υιους ισραηλ ουκ οιδα τον κυριον και τον ισραηλ ουκ εξαποστελλω

“You shall no longer give the people straw to make brick, as before. Let them go and gather straw for themselves.

ουκετι προστεθησεται διδοναι αχυρον τω λαω εις την πλινθουργιαν καθαπερ εχθες και τριτην ημεραν αυτοι πορευεσθωσαν και συναγαγετωσαν εαυτοις αχυρα

You shall require from them the number of the bricks which they made before. You shall not diminish anything of it, for they are idle. Therefore they cry, saying, ‘Let’s go and sacrifice to our God.’

The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and were asked, “Why haven’t you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?”

και εμαστιγωθησαν οι γραμματεις του γενους των υιων ισραηλ οι κατασταθεντες επ αυτους υπο των επιστατων του φαραω λεγοντες δια τι ου συνετελεσατε τας συνταξεις υμων της πλινθειας καθαπερ εχθες και τριτην ημεραν και το της σημερον

Go therefore now, and work; for no straw shall be given to you; yet you shall deliver the same number of bricks!”

εωρων δε οι γραμματεις των υιων ισραηλ εαυτους εν κακοις λεγοντες ουκ απολειψετε της πλινθειας το καθηκον τη ημερα

For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble on this people. You have not rescued your people at all!”

I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty; but by my name Yahweh I was not known to them.

Moses spoke so to the children of Israel, but they didn’t listen to Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.

Exodus 6:9 Heb. shortness, or, straitness

ελαλησεν δε μωυσης ουτως τοις υιοις ισραηλ και ουκ εισηκουσαν μωυση απο της ολιγοψυχιας και απο των εργων των σκληρων

Moses spoke before Yahweh, saying, “Behold, the children of Israel haven’t listened to me. How then shall Pharaoh listen to me, when I have uncircumcised lips?”

ελαλησεν δε μωυσης εναντι κυριου λεγων ιδου οι υιοι ισραηλ ουκ εισηκουσαν μου και πως εισακουσεται μου φαραω εγω δε αλογος ειμι

But Pharaoh will not listen to you, so I will lay my hand on Egypt, and bring out my armies, my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.

But Pharaoh H6547 shall not hearken H8085 (QalImpf) unto you, that I may lay H5414 (QalPerf) my hand H3027 upon Egypt, H4714 and bring forth H3318 (HiphPerf) mine armies, H6635 and my people H5971 the children H1121 of Israel, H3478 out of the land H776 of Egypt H4714 by great H1419 judgments. και ουκ εισακουσεται υμων φαραω και επιβαλω την χειρα μου επ αιγυπτον και εξαξω συν δυναμει μου τον λαον μου τους υιους ισραηλ εκ γης αιγυπτου συν εκδικησει μεγαλη

Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he didn’t listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken.

And he hardened H2388 (QalImpf) Pharaoh’s H6547 heart, H3820 that he hearkened H8085 (QalPerf) not unto them; as the Lord H3068 had said. H1696 (PielPerf)

και κατισχυσεν η καρδια φαραω και ουκ εισηκουσεν αυτων καθαπερ ελαλησεν αυτοις κυριος

You shall tell him, ‘Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to you, saying, “Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness. Behold, until now you haven’t listened.”

The fish that were in the river died. The river became foul. The Egyptians couldn’t drink water from the river. The blood was throughout all the land of Egypt.

και οι ιχθυες οι εν τω ποταμω ετελευτησαν και επωζεσεν ο ποταμος και ουκ ηδυναντο οι αιγυπτιοι πιειν υδωρ εκ του ποταμου και ην το αιμα εν παση γη αιγυπτου

The magicians of Egypt did the same thing with their enchantments. So Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he didn’t listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken.

And the magicians H2748 of Egypt H4714 did H6213 (QalImpf) so with their enchantments: H3909 and Pharaoh’s H6547 heart H3820 was hardened, H2388 (QalImpf) neither did he hearken H8085 (QalPerf) unto them; as the Lord H3068 had said. H1696 (PielPerf)

εποιησαν δε ωσαυτως και οι επαοιδοι των αιγυπτιων ταις φαρμακειαις αυτων και εσκληρυνθη η καρδια φαραω και ουκ εισηκουσεν αυτων καθαπερ ειπεν κυριος

Pharaoh turned and went into his house, and he didn’t even take this to heart.

And Pharaoh H6547 turned H6437 (QalImpf) and went H935 (QalImpf) into his house, H1004 neither did he set H7896 (QalPerf) his heart H3820 to this H2063 also.

επιστραφεις δε φαραω εισηλθεν εις τον οικον αυτου και ουκ επεστησεν τον νουν αυτου ουδε επι τουτω

All the Egyptians dug around the river for water to drink; for they couldn’t drink the river water.

And all the Egyptians H4714 digged H2658 (QalImpf) round about H5439 the river H2975 for water H4325 to drink; H8354 (QalInf) for they could H3201 (QalPerf) not drink H8354 (QalInf) of the water H4325 of the river. H2975

But when Pharaoh saw that there was a respite, he hardened his heart, and didn’t listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken.

The magicians tried with their enchantments to produce lice, but they couldn’t. There were lice on man, and on animal.

Moses said, “It isn’t appropriate to do so; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to Yahweh our God. Behold, if we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, won’t they stone us?

^[8:22] και ειπεν μωυσης ου δυνατον γενεσθαι ουτως τα γαρ βδελυγματα των αιγυπτιων θυσομεν κυριω τω θεω ημων εαν γαρ θυσωμεν τα βδελυγματα των αιγυπτιων εναντιον αυτων λιθοβοληθησομεθα

Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to Yahweh your God in the wilderness, only you shall not go very far away. Pray for me.”

Yahweh did according to the word of Moses, and he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. There remained not one.

Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and he didn’t let the people go.

Yahweh will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt; and nothing shall die of all that belongs to the children of Israel.” ’ ”

And the Lord H3068 shall sever H6395 (HiphPerf) between the cattle H4735 of Israel H3478 and the cattle H4735 of Egypt: H4714 and there shall nothing H1697 die H4191 (QalImpf) of all that is the children’s H1121 of Israel. H3478

και παραδοξασω εγω εν τω καιρω εκεινω ανα μεσον των κτηνων των αιγυπτιων και ανα μεσον των κτηνων των υιων ισραηλ ου τελευτησει απο παντων των του ισραηλ υιων ρητον

Yahweh did that thing on the next day; and all the livestock of Egypt died, but of the livestock of the children of Israel, not one died.

And the Lord H3068 did H6213 (QalImpf) that thing H1697 on the morrow, H4283 and all the cattle H4735 of Egypt H4714 died: H4191 (QalImpf) but of the cattle H4735 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 died H4191 (QalPerf) not one. H259

Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not so much as one of the livestock of the Israelites dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he didn’t let the people go.

The magicians couldn’t stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boils were on the magicians and on all the Egyptians.

And the magicians H2748 could H3201 (QalPerf) not stand H5975 (QalInf) before H6440 Moses H4872 because H6440 of the boils; H7822 for the boil H7822 was upon the magicians, H2748 and upon all the Egyptians. H4714

και ουκ ηδυναντο οι φαρμακοι στηναι εναντιον μωυση δια τα ελκη εγενετο γαρ τα ελκη εν τοις φαρμακοις και εν παση γη αιγυπτου

Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he didn’t listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken to Moses.

And the Lord H3068 hardened H2388 (PielImpf) the heart H3820 of Pharaoh, H6547 and he hearkened H8085 (QalPerf) not unto them; as the Lord H3068 had spoken H1696 (PielPerf) unto Moses. H4872

εσκληρυνεν δε κυριος την καρδιαν φαραω και ουκ εισηκουσεν αυτων καθα συνεταξεν κυριος

Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as has not been in Egypt since the day it was founded even until now.

Behold, to morrow H4279 about this time H6256 I will cause it to rain H4305 (HiphPtc) a very H3966 grievous H3515 hail, H1259 such as hath not been H3644 in Egypt H4714 since H4480 the foundation H3117 H3245 (NiphInf) thereof even until now.

ιδου εγω υω ταυτην την ωραν αυριον χαλαζαν πολλην σφοδρα ητις τοιαυτη ου γεγονεν εν αιγυπτω αφ ης ημερας εκτισται εως της ημερας ταυτης

Now therefore command that all of your livestock and all that you have in the field be brought into shelter. The hail will come down on every man and animal that is found in the field, and isn’t brought home, and they will die.” ’ ”

Send H7971 (QalImpv) therefore now, and gather H5756 (HiphImpv) thy cattle, H4735 and all that thou hast in the field; H7704 for upon every man H120 and beast H929 which shall be found H4672 (NiphImpf) in the field, H7704 and shall not be brought H622 (NiphImpf) home, H1004 the hail H1259 shall come down H3381 (QalPerf) upon them, and they shall die. νυν ουν κατασπευσον συναγαγειν τα κτηνη σου και οσα σοι εστιν εν τω πεδιω παντες γαρ οι ανθρωποι και τα κτηνη οσα αν ευρεθη εν τω πεδιω και μη εισελθη εις οικιαν πεση δε επ αυτα η χαλαζα τελευτησει

Whoever didn’t respect Yahweh’s word left his servants and his livestock in the field.

and he that regarded H7760 (QalPerf) H3820 not^§ the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 left H5800 (QalImpf) his servants H5650 and his cattle H4735 in the field. H7704

Exodus 9:21 Heb. set not his heart unto

ος δε μη προσεσχεν τη διανοια εις το ρημα κυριου αφηκεν τα κτηνη εν τοις πεδιοις

So there was very severe hail, and lightning mixed with the hail, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

So there was hail, H1259 and fire H784 H3947 (HithPtc) mingled H8432 with the hail, H1259 very H3966 grievous, H3515 such as there was none H3808 like it in all the land H776 of Egypt H4714 since it became a nation. H1471

Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, there was no hail.

Only in the land H776 of Goshen, H1657 where the children H1121 of Israel H3478 were, was there no hail. H1259

πλην εν γη γεσεμ ου ησαν οι υιοι ισραηλ ουκ εγενετο η χαλαζα

Pray to Yahweh; for there has been enough of mighty thunderings and hail. I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.”

Exodus 9:28 Heb. voices of God

ευξασθε ουν περι εμου προς κυριον και παυσασθω του γενηθηναι φωνας θεου και χαλαζαν και πυρ και εξαποστελω υμας και ουκετι προσθησεσθε μενειν

Moses said to him, “As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands to Yahweh. The thunders shall cease, and there will not be any more hail; that you may know that the earth is Yahweh’s.

The heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he didn’t let the children of Israel go, just as Yahweh had spoken through Moses.

And the heart H3820 of Pharaoh H6547 was hardened, H2388 (QalImpf) neither would he let the children H1121 of Israel H3478 go; H7971 (PielPerf) as the Lord H3068 had spoken H1696 (PielPerf) by H3027 Moses.^§ H4872

Exodus 9:35 Heb. by the hand of Moses

και εσκληρυνθη η καρδια φαραω και ουκ εξαπεστειλεν τους υιους ισραηλ καθαπερ ελαλησεν κυριος τω μωυση

and they shall cover the surface of the earth, so that one won’t be able to see the earth. They shall eat the residue of that which has escaped, which remains to you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which grows for you out of the field.

The locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt. They were very grievous. Before them there were no such locusts as they, nor will there ever be again.

Yahweh sent an exceedingly strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea.^§ There remained not one locust in all the borders of Egypt.

Exodus 10:19 “Red Sea” is the translation for the Hebrew “Yam Suf”, which could be more literally translated “Sea of Reeds” or “Sea of Cattails”. It refers to the body of water currently known as the Red Sea, or possibly to one of the bodies of water connected to it or near it.

And the Lord H3068 turned H2015 (QalImpf) a mighty H3966 strong H2389 west H3220 wind, H7307 which took away H5375 (QalImpf) the locusts, H697 and cast^§ H8628 (QalImpf) them into the Red H5488 sea; H3220 there remained H7604 (NiphPerf) not one H259 locust H697 in all the coasts H1366 of Egypt. Exodus 10:19 Heb. fastened

και μετεβαλεν κυριος ανεμον απο θαλασσης σφοδρον και ανελαβεν την ακριδα και ενεβαλεν αυτην εις την ερυθραν θαλασσαν και ουχ υπελειφθη ακρις μια εν παση γη αιγυπτου

But Yahweh hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he didn’t let the children of Israel go.

But the Lord H3068 hardened H2388 (PielImpf) Pharaoh’s H6547 heart, H3820 so that he would not let the children H1121 of Israel H3478 go. H7971 (PielPerf)

και εσκληρυνεν κυριος την καρδιαν φαραω και ουκ εξαπεστειλεν τους υιους ισραηλ

They didn’t see one another, and nobody rose from his place for three days; but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
