When the words were heard which David spoke, they rehearsed them before Saul; and he sent for him.

David strapped his sword on his clothing and he tried to move, for he had not tested it. David said to Saul, “I can’t go with these, for I have not tested them.” Then David took them off.

The Philistine walked and came near to David; and the man who bore the shield went before him.

When the Philistine looked around and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and had a good looking face.

When the Philistine arose, and walked and came near to meet David, David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

David put his hand in his bag, took a stone and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.

As David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.

Saul said to him, “Whose son are you, you young man?” David answered, “I am the son of your servant Jesse the Bethlehemite.”

When he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

και εξηρχον αι γυναικες και ελεγον επαταξεν σαουλ εν χιλιασιν αυτου και δαυιδ εν μυριασιν αυτου

Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, “They have credited David with ten thousands, and they have only credited me with thousands. What can he have more but the kingdom?”

And Saul H7586 was very H3966 wroth, H2734 (QalImpf) and the saying H1697 displeased H3415 (QalImpf) H5869 him;^§ and he said, H559 (QalImpf) They have ascribed H5414 (QalPerf) unto David H1732 ten thousands, H7233 and to me they have ascribed H5414 (QalPerf) but thousands: H505 and what can he have more but the kingdom? H4410

1 Samuel 18:8 Heb. was evil in his eyes

και πονηρον εφανη το ρημα εν οφθαλμοις σαουλ περι του λογου τουτου και ειπεν τω δαυιδ εδωκαν τας μυριαδας και εμοι εδωκαν τας χιλιαδας

Saul watched David from that day and forward.

και ην σαουλ υποβλεπομενος τον δαυιδ απο της ημερας εκεινης και επεκεινα

On the next day, an evil spirit from God came mightily on Saul, and he prophesied in the middle of the house. David played with his hand, as he did day by day. Saul had his spear in his hand;

And it came to pass on the morrow, H4283 that the evil H7451 spirit H7307 from God H430 came H6743 (QalImpf) upon Saul, H7586 and he prophesied H5012 (HithImpf) in the midst H8432 of the house: H1004 and David H1732 played H5059 (PielPtc) with his hand, H3027 as at other times: H3117 and there was a javelin H2595 in Saul’s H7586 hand. and Saul threw the spear, for he said, “I will pin David to the wall!” David escaped from his presence twice.

And Saul H7586 cast H2904 (HiphImpf) the javelin; H2595 for he said, H559 (QalImpf) I will smite H5221 (HiphImpf) David H1732 even to the wall H7023 with it. And David H1732 avoided out H5437 (NiphImpf) of his presence H6440 twice. H6471

Saul was afraid of David, because Yahweh was with him, and had departed from Saul.

And Saul H7586 was afraid H3372 (QalImpf) of H6440 David, H1732 because the Lord H3068 was with him, and was departed H5493 (QalPerf) from Saul. H7586

και εφοβηθη σαουλ απο προσωπου δαυιδ

David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and Yahweh was with him.

And David H1732 behaved^§ himself wisely H7919 (HiphPtc) in all his ways; H1870 and the Lord H3068 was with him.
