This is a sober history of the revolt that began when Antiochus IV outlawed the practice of the Jewish faith, and it follows Judas Maccabeus and his brothers from a guerrilla war in the hills to an independent Jewish state. It covers about 175 to 134 BC and reads like the work of someone with records in front of him.
