Zephaniah 1 (WEBP)

[1] Yahweh’s° word which came to Zephaniah, the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah, the son of Amon, king of Judah.
[2] I will utterly sweep away everything from the surface of the earth, says Yahweh.
[3] I will sweep away man and animal. I will sweep away the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and the heaps of rubble with the wicked. I will cut off man from the surface of the earth, says Yahweh.
[4] I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place—the name of the idolatrous and pagan priests,
[5] those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by Yahweh and also swear by Malcam,
[6] those who have turned back from following Yahweh, and those who haven’t sought Yahweh nor inquired after him.
[7] Be silent at the presence of the Lord§ Yahweh, for the day of Yahweh is at hand. For Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice. He has consecrated his guests.
[8] It will happen in the day of Yahweh’s sacrifice that I will punish the princes, the king’s sons, and all those who are clothed with foreign clothing.
[9] In that day, I will punish all those who leap over the threshold, who fill their master’s house with violence and deceit.
[10] In that day, says Yahweh, there will be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, a wailing from the second quarter, and a great crashing from the hills.
[11] Wail, you inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the people of Canaan are undone! All those who were loaded with silver are cut off.
[12] It will happen at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their heart, “Yahweh will not do good, neither will he do evil.”
[13] Their wealth will become a plunder, and their houses a desolation. Yes, they will build houses, but won’t inhabit them. They will plant vineyards, but won’t drink their wine.
[14] The great day of Yahweh is near. It is near and hurries greatly, the voice of the day of Yahweh. The mighty man cries there bitterly.
[15] That day is a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness,
[16] a day of the trumpet and alarm against the fortified cities and against the high battlements.
[17] I will bring such distress on men that they will walk like blind men because they have sinned against Yahweh. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung.
[18] Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of Yahweh’s wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.

Zephaniah 1:1 “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations.
Zephaniah 1:7 The word translated “Lord” is “Adonai.”

[8] And it shall come to pass in the day H3117 of the LORD’S H3068 sacrifice H2077, that I will punish H6485 (8804) the princes H8269, and the king’s H4428 children H1121, and all such as are clothed H3847 (8802) with strange H5237 apparel H4403.

[10] And it shall come to pass in that day H3117, saith H5002 (8803) the LORD H3068, [that there shall be] the noise H6963 of a cry H6818 from the fish H1709 gate H8179, and an howling H3215 from the second H4932, and a great H1419 crashing H7667 from the hills H1389.

[12] And it shall come to pass at that time H6256, [that] I will search H2664 (8762) Jerusalem H3389 with candles H5216, and punish H6485 (8804) the men H582 that are settled H7087 (8802) on their lees H8105: that say H559 (8802) in their heart H3824, The LORD H3068 will not do good H3190 (8686), neither will he do evil H7489 (8686).

[17] And I will bring distress H6887 (8689) upon men H120, that they shall walk H1980 (8804) like blind men H5787, because they have sinned H2398 (8804) against the LORD H3068: and their blood H1818 shall be poured out H8210 (8795) as dust H6083, and their flesh H3894 as the dung H1561.
[18] Neither their silver H3701 nor their gold H2091 shall be able H3201 (8799) to deliver H5337 (8687) them in the day H3117 of the LORD’S H3068 wrath H5678; but the whole land H776 shall be devoured H398 (8735) by the fire H784 of his jealousy H7068: for he shall make H6213 (8799) even a speedy H926 (8737) riddance H3617 of all them that dwell H3427 (8802) in the land H776.

Young’s Literal Translation

Zephaniah 1 (YLT)

[1] A word of Jehovah that hath been unto Zephaniah son of Cushi, son of Gedaliah, son of Amariah, son of Hezikiah, in the days of Josiah son of Amoz, king of Judah:
[2] I utterly consume all from off the face of the ground, An affirmation of Jehovah.
[3] I consume man and beast, I consume fowl of the heavens, and fishes of the sea, And the stumbling-blocks-the wicked, And I have cut off man from the face of the ground, An affirmation of Jehovah,
[4] And stretched out My hand against Judah, And against all inhabiting Jerusalem, And cut off from this place the remnant of Baal, The name of the idolatrous priests, with the priests,
[5] And those bowing themselves On the roofs to the host of the heavens, And those bowing themselves, Swearing to Jehovah, and swearing by Malcham,
[6] And those removing from after Jehovah, And who have not sought Jehovah, nor besought Him.
[7] Hush! because of the Lord Jehovah, For near is a day of Jehovah, For prepared hath Jehovah a sacrifice, He hath sanctified His invited ones.
[8] And it hath come to pass, In the day of the sacrifice of Jehovah, That I have laid a charge on the heads, And on sons of the king, And on all putting on strange clothing.
[9] And I have laid a charge on every one Who is leaping over the threshold in that day, Who are filling the house of their masters With violence and deceit.
[10] And there hath been in that day, An affirmation of Jehovah, The noise of a cry from the fish-gate, And of a howling from the Second, And of great destruction from the hills.
[11] Howl, ye inhabitants of the hollow place, For cut off hath been all the merchant people, Cut off have been all bearing silver.
[12] And it hath come to pass, at that time, I search Jerusalem with lights, And I have laid a charge on the men Who are hardened on their preserved things, Who are saying in their heart: Jehovah doth no good, nor doth He evil.
[13] And their wealth hath been for a spoil, And their houses for desolation, And they have built houses, and do not inhabit, And they have planted vineyards, And they do not drink their wine.
[14] Near is the great day of Jehovah, Near, and hasting exceedingly, The noise of the day of Jehovah, Bitterly shriek there doth a mighty one.
[15] A day of wrath is that day, A day of adversity and distress, A day of waste and desolation, A day of darkness and gloominess, A day of cloud and thick darkness.
[16] A day of trumpet and shouting against the fenced cities, And against the high corners.
[17] And I have sent distress to men, And they have walked as the blind, For against Jehovah they have sinned, And poured out is their blood as dust, And their flesh is as dung.
[18] Even their silver, even their gold, Is not able to deliver them in a day of the wrath of Jehovah, And in the fire of His jealousy consumed is the whole land, For only a hastened end doth He make Of all the inhabitants of the land!
