“As for you, if you will walk before me as David your father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded you, and will keep my statutes and my ordinances,

και συ εαν πορευθης εναντιον μου ως δαυιδ ο πατηρ σου και ποιησης κατα παντα α ενετειλαμην σοι και τα προσταγματα μου και τα κριματα μου φυλαξη

then I will establish the throne of your kingdom, according as I covenanted with David your father, saying, ‘There shall not fail you a man to be ruler in Israel.’

και αναστησω τον θρονον της βασιλειας σου ως διεθεμην δαυιδ τω πατρι σου λεγων ουκ εξαρθησεται σοι ανηρ ηγουμενος εν ισραηλ

They shall answer, ‘Because they abandoned Yahweh, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and took other gods, worshiped them, and served them. Therefore he has brought all this evil on them.’ ”

He appointed, according to the ordinance of David his father, the divisions of the priests to their service, and the Levites to their offices, to praise and to minister before the priests, as the duty of every day required, the doorkeepers also by their divisions at every gate, for David the man of God had so commanded.

Solomon slept with his fathers, and he was buried in his father David’s city; and Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.

“Your father made our yoke grievous. Now therefore make the grievous service of your father and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”

King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me about how to answer these people?”

και συνηγαγεν ο βασιλευς ροβοαμ τους πρεσβυτερους τους εστηκοτας εναντιον σαλωμων του πατρος αυτου εν τω ζην αυτον λεγων πως υμεις βουλευεσθε του αποκριθηναι τω λαω τουτω λογον

He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may give an answer to these people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter’?”

και ειπεν αυτοις τι υμεις βουλευεσθε και αποκριθησομαι λογον τω λαω τουτω οι ελαλησαν προς με λεγοντες ανες απο του ζυγου ου εδωκεν ο πατηρ σου εφ ημας

The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you shall tell the people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter on us;’ thus you shall say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.

Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’ ”

and spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”

και ελαλησεν προς αυτους κατα την βουλην των νεωτερων λεγων ο πατηρ μου εβαρυνεν τον ζυγον υμων και εγω προσθησω επ αυτον ο πατηρ μου επαιδευσεν υμας εν μαστιγξιν και εγω παιδευσω υμας εν σκορπιοις

After them, out of all the tribes of Israel, those who set their hearts to seek Yahweh, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, don’t fight against Yahweh, the God of your fathers; for you will not prosper.”

Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied on Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in David’s city; and Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days, the land was quiet ten years.

and commanded Judah to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and to obey his law and command.

They entered into the covenant to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul;

He brought the things that his father had dedicated and that he himself had dedicated, silver, gold, and vessels into God’s house.

“Let there be a treaty between me and you, as there was between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent you silver and gold. Go, break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.”

Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the forty-first year of his reign.

και εκοιμηθη ασα μετα των πατερων αυτου και ετελευτησεν εν τω ενατω και τριακοστω ετει της βασιλειας αυτου

He placed forces in all the fortified cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

Yahweh was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and didn’t seek the Baals,

And the Lord H3068 was with Jehoshaphat, H3092 because he walked H1980 (QalPerf) in the first H7223 ways H1870 of his father H1 David, H1732 and sought H1875 (QalPerf) not unto Baalim; H1168

και εγενετο κυριος μετα ιωσαφατ οτι επορευθη εν οδοις του πατρος αυτου ταις πρωταις και ουκ εξεζητησεν τα ειδωλα

but sought the God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not in the ways of Israel.

αλλα κυριον τον θεον του πατρος αυτου εξεζητησεν και εν ταις εντολαις του πατρος αυτου επορευθη και ουχ ως του ισραηλ τα εργα

This was the numbering of them according to their fathers’ houses: From Judah, the captains of thousands: Adnah the captain, and with him three hundred thousand mighty men of valor;

και ουτος αριθμος αυτων κατ οικους πατριων αυτων τω ιουδα χιλιαρχοι εδνας ο αρχων και μετ αυτου υιοι δυνατοι δυναμεως τριακοσιαι χιλιαδες

Jehoshaphat lived at Jerusalem; and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim, and brought them back to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

και κατωκησεν ιωσαφατ εν ιερουσαλημ και παλιν εξηλθεν εις τον λαον απο βηρσαβεε εως ορους εφραιμ και επεστρεψεν αυτους επι κυριον θεον των πατερων αυτων

Moreover in Jerusalem Jehoshaphat appointed certain Levites, priests, and heads of the fathers’ households of Israel to give judgment for Yahweh and for controversies. They returned to Jerusalem.

Moreover in Jerusalem H3389 did Jehoshaphat H3092 set H5975 (HiphPerf) of the Levites, H3881 and [of] the priests, H3548 and of the chief H7218 of the fathers H1 of Israel, H3478 for the judgment H4941 of the Lord, H3068 and for controversies, H7379 when they returned H7725 (QalImpf) to Jerusalem. και γαρ εν ιερουσαλημ κατεστησεν ιωσαφατ των ιερεων και των λευιτων και των πατριαρχων ισραηλ εις κρισιν κυριου και κρινειν τους κατοικουντας εν ιερουσαλημ

and he said, “Yahweh, the God of our fathers, aren’t you God in heaven? Aren’t you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you.

And said, H559 (QalImpf) O Lord H3068 God H430 of our fathers, H1 [art] not thou God H430 in heaven? H8064 and rulest H4910 (QalActPtc) [not] thou over all the kingdoms H4467 of the heathen? H1471 and in thine hand H3027 [is there not] power H3581 and might, H1369 so that none is able to withstand H3320 (HithInf) thee?

και ειπεν κυριε ο θεος των πατερων ημων ουχι συ ει θεος εν ουρανω και συ κυριευεις πασων των βασιλειων των εθνων και εν τη χειρι σου ισχυς δυναστειας και ουκ εστιν προς σε αντιστηναι

He walked in the way of Asa his father, and didn’t turn away from it, doing that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes.

And he walked H3212 (QalImpf) in the way H1870 of Asa H609 his father, H1 and departed H5493 (QalPerf) not from it, doing H6213 (QalInf) [that which was] right H3477 in the sight H5869 of the Lord. H3068

However the high places were not taken away, and the people had still not set their hearts on the God of their fathers.

Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in David’s city; and Jehoram his son reigned in his place.

Their father gave them great gifts of silver, of gold, and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah; but he gave the kingdom to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.

Now when Jehoram had risen up over the kingdom of his father, and had strengthened himself, he killed all his brothers with the sword, and also some of the princes of Israel.

So Edom has been in revolt from under the hand of Judah to this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time from under his hand, because he had forsaken Yahweh, the God of his fathers.

και απεστη απο ιουδα εδωμ εως της ημερας ταυτης τοτε απεστη λομνα εν τω καιρω εκεινω απο χειρος αυτου οτι εγκατελιπεν κυριον θεον των πατερων αυτου

A letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, “Yahweh, the God of David your father, says, ‘Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

και εγενετο εξ ημερων εις ημερας και ως ηλθεν καιρος των ημερων ημερας δυο εξηλθεν η κοιλια αυτου μετα της νοσου και απεθανεν εν μαλακια πονηρα και ουκ εποιησεν ο λαος αυτου εκφοραν καθως εκφοραν πατερων αυτου

και τους υιους αυτων ουκ απεκτεινεν κατα την διαθηκην του νομου κυριου καθως γεγραπται ως ενετειλατο κυριος λεγων ουκ αποθανουνται πατερες υπερ τεκνων και υιοι ουκ αποθανουνται υπερ πατερων αλλ η εκαστος τη εαυτου αμαρτια αποθανουνται

και συνηγαγεν αμασιας τον οικον ιουδα και ανεστησεν αυτους κατ οικους πατριων αυτων εις χιλιαρχους και εκατονταρχους εν παντι ιουδα και ιερουσαλημ και ηριθμησεν αυτους απο εικοσαετους και επανω και ευρεν αυτους τριακοσιας χιλιαδας δυνατους εξελθειν εις πολεμον κρατουντας δορυ και θυρεον
