2 Chronicles 13 (WEBP)
[1] In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, Abijah began to reign over Judah.
[2] He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. There was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
[3] Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men; and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valor.
[4] Abijah stood up on Mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill country of Ephraim, and said, “Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel:
[5] Ought you not to know that Yahweh, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David forever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
[6] Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up, and rebelled against his lord.
[7] Worthless men were gathered to him, wicked fellows who strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tender hearted, and could not withstand them.
[8] “Now you intend to withstand the kingdom of Yahweh in the hand of the sons of David. You are a great multitude, and the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods are with you.
[9] Haven’t you driven out the priests of Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made priests for yourselves according to the ways of the peoples of other lands? Whoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bull and seven rams may be a priest of those who are no gods.
[10] “But as for us, Yahweh is our God, and we have not forsaken him. We have priests serving Yahweh, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work.
[11] They burn to Yahweh every morning and every evening burnt offerings and sweet incense. They also set the show bread in order on the pure table, and care for the gold lamp stand with its lamps, to burn every evening; for we keep the instruction of Yahweh our God, but you have forsaken him.
[12] Behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. Children of Israel, don’t fight against Yahweh, the God of your fathers; for you will not prosper.”
[13] But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.
[14] When Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them; and they cried to Yahweh, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
[15] Then the men of Judah gave a shout. As the men of Judah shouted, God struck Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
[16] The children of Israel fled before Judah, and God delivered them into their hand.
[17] Abijah and his people killed them with a great slaughter, so five hundred thousand chosen men of Israel fell down slain.
[18] Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied on Yahweh, the God of their fathers.
[19] Abijah pursued Jeroboam, and took cities from him: Bethel with its villages, Jeshanah with its villages, and Ephron with its villages.
[20] Jeroboam didn’t recover strength again in the days of Abijah. Yahweh struck him, and he died.
[21] But Abijah grew mighty and took for himself fourteen wives, and became the father of twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.
[22] The rest of the acts of Abijah, his ways, and his sayings are written in the commentary of the prophet Iddo.

2 Chronicles 13 (KJVS)
[1] Now in the eighteenth H8083 H6240 year H8141 of king H4428 Jeroboam H3379 began Abijah H29 to reign H4427 (8799) over Judah H3063.
[2] He reigned H4427 (8804) three H7969 years H8141 in Jerusalem H3389. His mother’s H517 name H8034 also [was] Michaiah H4322 the daughter H1323 of Uriel H222 of Gibeah H1390. And there was war H4421 between Abijah H29 and Jeroboam H3379.
[3] And Abijah H29 set H631 the battle H4421 in array H631 (8799) with an army H2428 of valiant men H1368 of war H4421, [even] four H702 hundred H3967 thousand H505 chosen H977 (8803) men H376: Jeroboam H3379 also set the battle H4421 in array H6186 (8804) against him with eight H8083 hundred H3967 thousand H505 chosen H977 (8803) men H376, [being] mighty men H1368 of valour H2428.
[4] And Abijah H29 stood up H6965 (8799) upon mount H2022 Zemaraim H6787, which [is] in mount H2022 Ephraim H669, and said H559 (8799), Hear H8085 (8798) me, thou Jeroboam H3379, and all Israel H3478;
[5] Ought ye not to know H3045 (8800) that the LORD H3068 God H430 of Israel H3478 gave H5414 (8804) the kingdom H4467 over Israel H3478 to David H1732 for ever H5769, [even] to him and to his sons H1121 by a covenant H1285 of salt H4417?
[6] Yet Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Nebat H5028, the servant H5650 of Solomon H8010 the son H1121 of David H1732, is risen up H6965 (8799), and hath rebelled H4775 (8799) against his lord H113.
[7] And there are gathered H6908 (8735) unto him vain H7386 men H582, the children H1121 of Belial H1100, and have strengthened H553 (8691) themselves against Rehoboam H7346 the son H1121 of Solomon H8010, when Rehoboam H7346 was young H5288 and tenderhearted H7390 H3824, and could not withstand H2388 (8694) them H6440.
[8] And now ye think H559 (8802) to withstand H2388 (8692) the kingdom H6440 H4467 of the LORD H3068 in the hand H3027 of the sons H1121 of David H1732; and ye [be] a great H7227 multitude H1995, and [there are] with you golden H2091 calves H5695, which Jeroboam H3379 made H6213 (8804) you for gods H430.
[9] Have ye not cast out H5080 (8689) the priests H3548 of the LORD H3068, the sons H1121 of Aaron H175, and the Levites H3881, and have made H6213 (8799) you priests H3548 after the manner of the nations H5971 of [other] lands H776? so that whosoever cometh H935 (8802) to consecrate H4390 (8763) H3027 himself with a young H1121 H1241 bullock H6499 and seven H7651 rams H352, [the same] may be a priest H3548 of [them that are] no H3808 gods H430.
[10] But as for us, the LORD H3068 [is] our God H430, and we have not forsaken H5800 (8804) him; and the priests H3548, which minister H8334 (8764) unto the LORD H3068, [are] the sons H1121 of Aaron H175, and the Levites H3881 [wait] upon [their] business H4399:
[11] And they burn H6999 (8688) unto the LORD H3068 every morning H1242 and every evening H6153 burnt sacrifices H5930 and sweet H5561 incense H7004: the shewbread H3899 H4635 also [set they in order] upon the pure H2889 table H7979; and the candlestick H4501 of gold H2091 with the lamps H5216 thereof, to burn H1197 (8763) every evening H6153: for we keep H8104 (8802) the charge H4931 of the LORD H3068 our God H430; but ye have forsaken H5800 (8804) him.
[12] And, behold, God H430 himself [is] with us for [our] captain H7218, and his priests H3548 with sounding H8643 trumpets H2689 to cry alarm H7321 (8687) against you. O children H1121 of Israel H3478, fight H3898 (8735) ye not against the LORD H3068 God H430 of your fathers H1; for ye shall not prosper H6743 (8686).
[13] But Jeroboam H3379 caused an ambushment H3993 to come H935 (8800) about H5437 (8689) behind H310 them: so they were before H6440 Judah H3063, and the ambushment H3993 [was] behind H310 them.
[14] And when Judah H3063 looked back H6437 (8799), behold, the battle H4421 [was] before H6440 and behind H268: and they cried H6817 (8799) unto the LORD H3068, and the priests H3548 sounded H2690 (8688) (8675) H2690 (8764) with the trumpets H2689.
[15] Then the men H376 of Judah H3063 gave a shout H7321 (8686): and as the men H376 of Judah H3063 shouted H7321 (8687), it came to pass, that God H430 smote H5062 (8804) Jeroboam H3379 and all Israel H3478 before H6440 Abijah H29 and Judah H3063.
[16] And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 fled H5127 (8799) before H6440 Judah H3063: and God H430 delivered H5414 (8799) them into their hand H3027.
[17] And Abijah H29 and his people H5971 slew H5221 (8686) them with a great H7227 slaughter H4347: so there fell down H5307 (8799) slain H2491 of Israel H3478 five H2568 hundred H3967 thousand H505 chosen H977 (8803) men H376.
[18] Thus the children H1121 of Israel H3478 were brought H3665 (8735) under at that time H6256, and the children H1121 of Judah H3063 prevailed H553 (8799), because they relied H8172 (8738) upon the LORD H3068 God H430 of their fathers H1.
[19] And Abijah H29 pursued H7291 (8799) after H310 Jeroboam H3379, and took H3920 (8799) cities H5892 from him, Bethel H1008 with the towns H1323 thereof, and Jeshanah H3466 with the towns H1323 thereof, and Ephrain H6085 with the towns H1323 thereof.
[20] Neither did Jeroboam H3379 recover H6113 (8804) strength H3581 again in the days H3117 of Abijah H29: and the LORD H3068 struck H5062 (8799) him, and he died H4191 (8799).
[21] But Abijah H29 waxed mighty H2388 (8691), and married H5375 (8799) fourteen H702 H6240 wives H802, and begat H3205 (8686) twenty H6242 and two H8147 sons H1121, and sixteen H8337 H6240 daughters H1323.
[22] And the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 of Abijah H29, and his ways H1870, and his sayings H1697, [are] written H3789 (8803) in the story H4097 of the prophet H5030 Iddo H5714.
Young’s Literal Translation
2 Chronicles 13 (YLT)
[1] In the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam-Abijah reigneth over Judah;
[2] three years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, (and the name of his mother is Michaiah daughter of Uriel, from Gibeah,) and war hath been between Abijah and Jeroboam.
[3] And Abijah directeth the war with a force of mighty men of war, four hundred thousand chosen men, and Jeroboam hath set in array with him battle, with eight hundred thousand chosen men, mighty of valour.
[4] And Abijah riseth up on the hill of Zemaraim that is in the hill-country of Ephraim, and saith, ‘Hear me, Jeroboam and all Israel!
[5] Is it not for you to know that Jehovah, God of Israel, hath given the kingdom to David over Israel to the age, to him and to his sons-a covenant of salt?
[6] and rise up doth Jeroboam, son of Nebat, servant of Solomon son of David, and rebelleth against his lord!
[7] ‘And there are gathered unto him vain men, sons of worthlessness, and they strengthen themselves against Rehoboam son of Solomon, and Rehoboam was a youth, and tender of heart, and hath not strengthened himself against them.
[8] ‘And now, ye are saying to strengthen yourselves before the kingdom of Jehovah in the hand of the sons of David, and ye are a numerous multitude, and with you calves of gold that Jeroboam hath made to you for gods.
[9] ‘Have ye not cast out the priests of Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and make to you priests like the peoples of the lands? every one who hath come to fill his hand with a bullock, a son of the herd, and seven rams, even he hath been a priest to No-gods!
[10] ‘As for us, Jehovah is our God, and we have not forsaken Him, and priests are ministering to Jehovah, sons of Aaron and the Levites, in the work,
[11] and are making perfume to Jehovah, burnt-offerings morning by morning, and evening by evening, and perfume of spices, and the arrangement of bread is on the pure table, and the candlestick of gold, and its lamps, to burn evening by evening, for we are keeping the charge of Jehovah our God, and ye-ye have forsaken Him.
[12] ‘And lo, with us-at our head-is God, and His priests and trumpets of shouting to shout against you; O sons of Israel, do not fight with Jehovah, God of your fathers, for ye do not prosper.’
[13] And Jeroboam hath brought round the ambush to come in from behind them, and they are before Judah, and the ambush is behind them.
[14] And Judah turneth, and lo, against them is the battle, before and behind, and they cry to Jehovah, and the priests are blowing with trumpets,
[15] and the men of Judah shout-and it cometh to pass, at the shouting of the men of Judah, that God hath smitten Jeroboam, and all Israel, before Abijah and Judah.
[16] And the sons of Israel flee from the face of Judah, and God giveth them into their hand,
[17] and Abijah and his people smite among them a great smiting, and there fall wounded of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.
[18] And the sons of Israel are humbled at that time, and the sons of Judah are strong, for they have leant on Jehovah, God of their fathers.
[19] And Abijah pursueth after Jeroboam, and captureth from him cities, Beth-El and its small towns, and Jeshanah and its small towns, and Ephraim and its small towns.
[20] And Jeroboam hath not retained power any more in the days of Abijah, and Jehovah smiteth him, and he dieth.
[21] And Abijah strengtheneth himself, and taketh to him fourteen wives, and begetteth twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters,
[22] and the rest of the matters of Abijah, and his ways, and his words, are written in the ‘Inquiry’ of the prophet Iddo.
