2 Chronicles 32 (WEBP)
[1] After these things and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, entered into Judah, encamped against the fortified cities, and intended to win them for himself.
[2] When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he was planning to fight against Jerusalem,
[3] he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside of the city, and they helped him.
[4] Then many people gathered together and they stopped all the springs and the brook that flowed through the middle of the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find abundant water?”
[5] He took courage, built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, with the other wall outside, and strengthened Millo in David’s city, and made weapons and shields in abundance.
[6] He set captains of war over the people, gathered them together to him in the wide place at the gate of the city, and spoke encouragingly to them, saying,
[7] “Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid or dismayed because of the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater one with us than with him.
[8] An arm of flesh is with him, but Yahweh our God is with us to help us and to fight our battles.” The people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
[9] After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was attacking Lachish, and all his forces were with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,
[10] Sennacherib king of Assyria says, “In whom do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem?
[11] Doesn’t Hezekiah persuade you to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, ‘Yahweh our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria’?
[12] Hasn’t the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You shall worship before one altar, and you shall burn incense on it’?
[13] Don’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of those lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?
[14] Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?
[15] Now therefore don’t let Hezekiah deceive you nor persuade you in this way. Don’t believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand?”
[16] His servants spoke yet more against Yahweh God and against his servant Hezekiah.
[17] He also wrote letters insulting Yahweh, the God of Israel, and speaking against him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.”
[18] They called out with a loud voice in the Jews’ language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them and to trouble them, that they might take the city.
[19] They spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands.
[20] Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.
[21] Yahweh sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, the leaders, and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, those who came out of his own body° killed him there with the sword.
[22] Thus Yahweh saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.
[23] Many brought gifts to Yahweh to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from then on.
[24] In those days Hezekiah was terminally ill, and he prayed to Yahweh; and he spoke to him, and gave him a sign.
[25] But Hezekiah didn’t reciprocate appropriate to the benefit done for him, because his heart was lifted up. Therefore there was wrath on him, Judah, and Jerusalem.
[26] However, Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that Yahweh’s wrath didn’t come on them in the days of Hezekiah.
[27] Hezekiah had exceedingly great riches and honor. He provided himself with treasuries for silver, for gold, for precious stones, for spices, for shields, and for all kinds of valuable vessels;
[28] also storehouses for the increase of grain, new wine, and oil; and stalls for all kinds of animals, and flocks in folds.
[29] Moreover he provided for himself cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him abundant possessions.
[30] This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of David’s city. Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
[31] However, concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him to test him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
[32] Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
[33] Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent to the tombs of the sons of David. All Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem honored him at his death. Manasseh his son reigned in his place.

2 Chronicles 32 (KJVS)
[1] After H310 these things H1697, and the establishment H571 thereof, Sennacherib H5576 king H4428 of Assyria H804 came H935 (8804), and entered H935 (8799) into Judah H3063, and encamped H2583 (8799) against the fenced H1219 (8803) cities H5892, and thought H559 (8799) to win H1234 (8800) them for himself.
[2] And when Hezekiah H3169 saw H7200 (8799) that Sennacherib H5576 was come H935 (8804), and that he was purposed H6440 to fight H4421 against Jerusalem H3389,
[3] He took counsel H3289 (8735) with his princes H8269 and his mighty men H1368 to stop H5640 (8800) the waters H4325 of the fountains H5869 which [were] without H2351 the city H5892: and they did help H5826 (8799) him.
[4] So there was gathered H6908 much H7227 people H5971 together H6908 (8735), who stopped H5640 (8799) all the fountains H4599, and the brook H5158 that ran H7857 (8802) through the midst H8432 of the land H776, saying H559 (8800), Why should the kings H4428 of Assyria H804 come H935 (8799), and find H4672 (8804) much H7227 water H4325?
[5] Also he strengthened H2388 (8691) himself, and built up H1129 (8799) all the wall H2346 that was broken H6555 (8803), and raised [it] up H5927 (8686) to the towers H4026, and another H312 wall H2346 without H2351, and repaired H2388 (8762) Millo H4407 [in] the city H5892 of David H1732, and made H6213 (8799) darts H7973 and shields H4043 in abundance H7230.
[6] And he set H5414 (8799) captains H8269 of war H4421 over the people H5971, and gathered them together H6908 (8799) to him in the street H7339 of the gate H8179 of the city H5892, and spake H1696 (8762) comfortably H3824 to them, saying H559 (8800),
[7] Be strong H2388 (8798) and courageous H553 (8798), be not afraid H3372 (8799) nor dismayed H2865 (8735) for H6440 the king H4428 of Assyria H804, nor for all the multitude H1995 that [is] with him: for [there be] more H7227 with us than with him:
[8] With him [is] an arm H2220 of flesh H1320; but with us [is] the LORD H3068 our God H430 to help H5826 (8800) us, and to fight H3898 (8736) our battles H4421. And the people H5971 rested H5564 (8735) themselves upon the words H1697 of Hezekiah H3169 king H4428 of Judah H3063.
[9] After H310 this did Sennacherib H5576 king H4428 of Assyria H804 send H7971 (8804) his servants H5650 to Jerusalem H3389, (but he [himself laid siege] against Lachish H3923, and all his power H4475 with him,) unto Hezekiah H3169 king H4428 of Judah H3063, and unto all Judah H3063 that [were] at Jerusalem H3389, saying H559 (8800),
[10] Thus saith H559 (8804) Sennacherib H5576 king H4428 of Assyria H804, Whereon do ye trust H982 (8802), that ye abide H3427 (8802) in the siege H4692 in Jerusalem H3389?
[11] Doth not Hezekiah H3169 persuade H5496 (8688) you to give H5414 (8800) over yourselves to die H4191 (8800) by famine H7458 and by thirst H6772, saying H559 (8800), The LORD H3068 our God H430 shall deliver H5337 (8686) us out of the hand H3709 of the king H4428 of Assyria H804?
[12] Hath not the same Hezekiah H3169 taken away H5493 (8689) his high places H1116 and his altars H4196, and commanded H559 (8799) Judah H3063 and Jerusalem H3389, saying H559 (8800), Ye shall worship H7812 (8691) before H6440 one H259 altar H4196, and burn incense H6999 (8686) upon it?
[13] Know H3045 (8799) ye not what I and my fathers H1 have done H6213 (8804) unto all the people H5971 of [other] lands H776? were the gods H430 of the nations H1471 of those lands H776 any ways H3201 (8800) able H3201 (8804) to deliver H5337 (8687) their lands H776 out of mine hand H3027?
[14] Who [was there] among all the gods H430 of those nations H1471 that my fathers H1 utterly destroyed H2763 (8689), that could H3201 (8804) deliver H5337 (8687) his people H5971 out of mine hand H3027, that your God H430 should be able H3201 (8799) to deliver H5337 (8687) you out of mine hand H3027?
[15] Now therefore let not H3808 Hezekiah H2396 deceive H5377 (8686) you, nor persuade H5496 (8686) you on this manner, neither yet believe H539 (8686) him: for no god H433 of any nation H1471 or kingdom H4467 was able H3201 (8799) to deliver H5337 (8687) his people H5971 out of mine hand H3027, and out of the hand H3027 of my fathers H1: how much less shall your God H430 deliver H5337 (8686) you out of mine hand H3027?
[16] And his servants H5650 spake H1696 (8765) yet [more] against the LORD H3068 God H430, and against his servant H5650 Hezekiah H3169.
[17] He wrote H3789 (8804) also letters H5612 to rail H2778 (8763) on the LORD H3068 God H430 of Israel H3478, and to speak H559 (8800) against him, saying H559 (8800), As the gods H430 of the nations H1471 of [other] lands H776 have not delivered H5337 (8689) their people H5971 out of mine hand H3027, so shall not the God H430 of Hezekiah H3169 deliver H5337 (8686) his people H5971 out of mine hand H3027.
[18] Then they cried H7121 (8799) with a loud H1419 voice H6963 in the Jews’ speech H3066 unto the people H5971 of Jerusalem H3389 that [were] on the wall H2346, to affright H3372 (8763) them, and to trouble H926 (8763) them; that they might take H3920 (8799) the city H5892.
[19] And they spake H1696 (8762) against H5921 the God H430 of Jerusalem H3389, as against the gods H430 of the people H5971 of the earth H776, [which were] the work H4639 of the hands H3027 of man H120.
[20] And for this [cause] Hezekiah H3169 the king H4428, and the prophet H5030 Isaiah H3470 the son H1121 of Amoz H531, prayed H6419 (8691) and cried H2199 (8799) to heaven H8064.
[21] And the LORD H3068 sent H7971 (8799) an angel H4397, which cut off H3582 (8686) all the mighty men H1368 of valour H2428, and the leaders H5057 and captains H8269 in the camp H4264 of the king H4428 of Assyria H804. So he returned H7725 (8799) with shame H1322 of face H6440 to his own land H776. And when he was come H935 (8799) into the house H1004 of his god H430, they that came forth H3329 of his own bowels H4578 slew H5307 (8689) him there with the sword H2719.
[22] Thus the LORD H3068 saved H3467 (8686) Hezekiah H3169 and the inhabitants H3427 (8802) of Jerusalem H3389 from the hand H3027 of Sennacherib H5576 the king H4428 of Assyria H804, and from the hand H3027 of all [other], and guided H5095 (8762) them on every side H5439.
[23] And many H7227 brought H935 (8688) gifts H4503 unto the LORD H3068 to Jerusalem H3389, and presents H4030 to Hezekiah H3169 king H4428 of Judah H3063: so that he was magnified H5375 (8735) in the sight H5869 of all nations H1471 from thenceforth H310.
[24] In those days H3117 Hezekiah H3169 was sick H2470 (8804) to the death H4191 (8800), and prayed H6419 (8691) unto the LORD H3068: and he spake H559 (8799) unto him, and he gave H5414 (8804) him a sign H4159.
[25] But Hezekiah H3169 rendered not again H7725 (8689) according to the benefit H1576 [done] unto him; for his heart H3820 was lifted up H1361 (8804): therefore there was wrath H7110 upon him, and upon Judah H3063 and Jerusalem H3389.
[26] Notwithstanding Hezekiah H3169 humbled H3665 (8735) himself for the pride H1363 of his heart H3820, [both] he and the inhabitants H3427 (8802) of Jerusalem H3389, so that the wrath H7110 of the LORD H3068 came H935 (8804) not upon them in the days H3117 of Hezekiah H3169.
[27] And Hezekiah H3169 had exceeding H3966 much H7235 (8687) riches H6239 and honour H3519: and he made H6213 (8804) himself treasuries H214 for silver H3701, and for gold H2091, and for precious H3368 stones H68, and for spices H1314, and for shields H4043, and for all manner of pleasant H2532 jewels H3627;
[28] Storehouses H4543 also for the increase H8393 of corn H1715, and wine H8492, and oil H3323; and stalls H723 for all manner of beasts H929, and cotes H220 for flocks H5739.
[29] Moreover he provided H6213 (8804) him cities H5892, and possessions H4735 of flocks H6629 and herds H1241 in abundance H7230: for God H430 had given H5414 (8804) him substance H7399 very H3966 much H7227.
[30] This same Hezekiah H3169 also stopped H5640 (8804) the upper H5945 watercourse H4161 H4325 of Gihon H1521, and brought it straight H3474 (8762) down H4295 to the west side H4628 of the city H5892 of David H1732. And Hezekiah H3169 prospered H6743 (8686) in all his works H4639.
[31] Howbeit H3651 in [the business of] the ambassadors H3887 (8688) of the princes H8269 of Babylon H894, who sent H7971 (8764) unto him to enquire H1875 (8800) of the wonder H4159 that was [done] in the land H776, God H430 left H5800 (8804) him, to try H5254 (8763) him, that he might know H3045 (8800) all [that was] in his heart H3824.
[32] Now the rest H3499 of the acts H1697 of Hezekiah H3169, and his goodness H2617, behold, they [are] written H3789 (8803) in the vision H2377 of Isaiah H3470 the prophet H5030, the son H1121 of Amoz H531, [and] in the book H5612 of the kings H4428 of Judah H3063 and Israel H3478.
[33] And Hezekiah H3169 slept H7901 (8799) with his fathers H1, and they buried H6912 (8799) him in the chiefest H4608 of the sepulchres H6913 of the sons H1121 of David H1732: and all Judah H3063 and the inhabitants H3427 (8802) of Jerusalem H3389 did him H6213 (8804) honour H3519 at his death H4194. And Manasseh H4519 his son H1121 reigned H4427 (8799) in his stead.
Young’s Literal Translation
2 Chronicles 32 (YLT)
[1] After these things and this truth, come hath Sennacherib king of Asshur, yea, he cometh in to Judah, and encampeth against the cities of the bulwarks, and saith to rend them unto himself.
[2] And Hezekiah seeth that Sennacherib hath come, and his face is to the battle against Jerusalem,
[3] and he taketh counsel with his heads and his mighty ones, to stop the waters of the fountains that are at the outside of the city-and they help him,
[4] and much people are gathered, and they stop all the fountains and the brook that is rushing into the midst of the land, saying, ‘Why do the kings of Asshur come, and have found much water?’
[5] And he strengtheneth himself, and buildeth the whole of the wall that is broken, and causeth it to ascend unto the towers, and at the outside of the wall another, and strengtheneth Millo, in the city of David, and maketh darts in abundance, and shields.
[6] And he putteth heads of war over the people, and gathereth them unto him, unto the broad place of a gate of the city, and speaketh unto their heart, saying,
[7] ‘Be strong and courageous, be not afraid, nor be cast down from the face of the king of Asshur, and from the face of all the multitude that is with him, for with us are more than with him.
[8] With him is an arm of flesh, and with us is Jehovah our God, to help us, and to fight our battles;’ and the people are supported by the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
[9] After this hath Sennacherib king of Asshur sent his servants to Jerusalem-and he is by Lachish, and all his power with him-against Hezekiah king of Judah, and against all Judah, who are in Jerusalem, saying,
[10] ‘Thus said Sennacherib king of Asshur, On what are ye trusting and abiding in the bulwark, in Jerusalem?
[11] ‘Is not Hezekiah persuading you, to give you up to die by famine, and by thirst, saying, Jehovah our God doth deliver us from the hand of the king of Asshur?
[12] Hath not Hezekiah himself turned aside His high places, and His altars, and speaketh to Judah and to Jerusalem, saying, Before one altar ye bow yourselves, and on it ye make perfume?
[13] ‘Do ye not know what I have done-I and my fathers-to all peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands at all able to deliver their land out of my hand?
[14] Who among all the gods of these nations whom my fathers have devoted to destruction is he who hath been able to deliver his people out of my hand, that your God is able to deliver you out of my hand?
[15] ‘And, now, let not Hezekiah lift you up, nor persuade you thus, nor give credence to him, for no god of any nation and kingdom is able to deliver his people from my hand, and from the hand of my fathers: also, surely your God doth not deliver you from my hand!’
[16] And again have his servants spoken against Jehovah God, and against Hezekiah His servant,
[17] and letters he hath written to give reproach to Jehovah, God of Israel, and to speak against Him, saying, ‘As the gods of the nations of the lands that have not delivered their people from my hand, so the God of Hezekiah doth not deliver His people from my hand.’
[18] And they call with a great voice in Jewish, against the people of Jerusalem who are on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them, that they may capture the city,
[19] and they speak against the God of Jerusalem as against the gods of the peoples of the land-work of the hands of man.
[20] And Hezekiah the king prayeth, and Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet, concerning this, and they cry to the heavens,
[21] and Jehovah sendeth a messenger, and cutteth off every mighty one of valour-both leader and head-in the camp of the king of Asshur, and he turneth back with shame of face to his land, and entereth the house of his god, and those coming out of his bowels have caused him to fall there by the sword.
[22] And Jehovah saveth Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Asshur, and from the hand of all, and He leadeth them round about;
[23] and many are bringing in an offering to Jehovah, to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah, and he is lifted up before the eyes of all the nations after this.
[24] In those days hath Hezekiah been sick even unto death, and he prayeth unto Jehovah, and He speaketh to him, and a wonder hath appointed for him;
[25] and Hezekiah hath not returned according to the deed done unto him, for his heart hath been lofty, and there is wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem;
[26] and Hezekiah is humbled for the loftiness of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the wrath of Jehovah hath not come upon them in the days of Hezekiah.
[27] And Hezekiah hath riches and honour very much, and treasures he hath made to himself of silver, and of gold, and of precious stone, and of spices, and of shields, and of all kinds of desirable vessels,
[28] and storehouses for the increase of corn, and new wine, and oil, and stalls for all kinds of cattle, and herds for stalls;
[29] and cities he hath made for himself, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance, for God hath given to him very much substance.
[30] And Hezekiah himself hath stopped the upper source of the waters of Gihon, and directeth them beneath to the west of the city of David, and Hezekiah prospereth in all his work;
[31] and so with the ambassadors of the heads of Babylon, those sending unto him to inquire of the wonder that hath been in the land, God hath left him to try him, to know all in his heart,
[32] And the rest of the matters of Hezekiah, and his kind acts, lo, they are written in the vision of Isaiah son of Amoz the prophet, on the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
[33] And Hezekiah lieth with his fathers, and they bury him in the uppermost of the graves of the sons of David, and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have done honour to him at his death, and reign doth Manasseh his son in his stead.
