Saul said, “Disperse yourselves among the people, and tell them, ‘Every man bring me here his ox, and every man his sheep, and kill them here, and eat; and don’t sin against Yahweh in eating meat with the blood.’” All the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and killed them there.

Saul asked counsel of God: “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?” But he didn’t answer him that day.

Then he said to all Israel, “You be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side.” The people said to Saul, “Do what seems good to you.”

Therefore Saul said to Yahweh, the God of Israel, “Show the right.” Jonathan and Saul were chosen, but the people escaped.

Saul said, “Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son.” Jonathan was selected.

Then Saul said to Jonathan, “Tell me what you have done!” Jonathan told him, and said, “I certainly did taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand; and behold, I must die.”

Saul said, “God do so and more also; for you shall surely die, Jonathan.”

και ειπεν αυτω σαουλ ταδε ποιησαι μοι ο θεος και ταδε προσθειη οτι θανατω αποθανη σημερον

The people said to Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it! As Yahweh lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he has worked with God today!” So the people rescued Jonathan, so he didn’t die.

And the people H5971 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Saul, H7586 Shall Jonathan H3129 die, H4191 (QalImpf) who hath wrought H6213 (QalPerf) this great H1419 salvation H3444 in Israel? και ειπεν ο λαος προς σαουλ ει σημερον θανατωθησεται ο ποιησας την σωτηριαν την μεγαλην ταυτην εν ισραηλ ζη κυριος ει πεσειται της τριχος της κεφαλης αυτου επι την γην οτι ο λαος του θεου εποιησεν την ημεραν ταυτην και προσηυξατο ο λαος περι ιωναθαν εν τη ημερα εκεινη και ουκ απεθανεν

Then Saul went up from following the Philistines; and the Philistines went to their own place.

Now when Saul had taken the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side: against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines. Wherever he turned himself, he defeated them.

Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, Ishvi, and Malchishua; and the names of his two daughters were these: the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal.

και ησαν υιοι σαουλ ιωναθαν και ιεσσιου και μελχισα και ονοματα των δυο θυγατερων αυτου ονομα τη πρωτοτοκω μεροβ και ονομα τη δευτερα μελχολ

The name of Saul’s wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the captain of his army was Abner the son of Ner, Saul’s uncle.

Kish was the father of Saul, and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.

Samuel said to Saul, “Yahweh sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of Yahweh’s words.

Saul summoned the people, and counted them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen and ten thousand men of Judah.

Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, which is before Egypt.

και παρεγενετο σαμουηλ προς σαουλ και ειπεν αυτω σαουλ ευλογητος συ τω κυριω εστησα παντα οσα ελαλησεν κυριος

Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the cattle, to sacrifice to Yahweh your God. We have utterly destroyed the rest.”

And Saul H7586 said, H559 (QalImpf) They have brought H935 (HiphPerf) them from the Amalekites: H6003 for the people H5971 spared H2550 (QalPerf) the best H4315 of the sheep H6629 and of the oxen, H1241 to sacrifice H2076 (QalInf) unto the Lord H3068 thy God; H430 and the rest H3498 (QalActPtc) we have utterly destroyed. και ειπεν σαουλ εξ αμαληκ ηνεγκα αυτα α περιεποιησατο ο λαος τα κρατιστα του ποιμνιου και των βοων οπως τυθη τω κυριω θεω σου και τα λοιπα εξωλεθρευσα

Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stay, and I will tell you what Yahweh said to me last night.” He said to him, “Say on.”

και ειπεν σαμουηλ προς σαουλ ανες και απαγγελω σοι α ελαλησεν κυριος προς με την νυκτα και ειπεν αυτω λαλησον

Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed Yahweh’s voice, and have gone the way which Yahweh sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

και ειπεν σαουλ προς σαμουηλ δια το ακουσαι με της φωνης του λαου και επορευθην εν τη οδω η απεστειλεν με κυριος και ηγαγον τον αγαγ βασιλεα αμαληκ και τον αμαληκ εξωλεθρευσα

Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of Yahweh and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

και ειπεν σαουλ προς σαμουηλ ημαρτηκα οτι παρεβην τον λογον κυριου και το ρημα σου οτι εφοβηθην τον λαον και ηκουσα της φωνης αυτων

Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you; for you have rejected Yahweh’s word, and Yahweh has rejected you from being king over Israel.”

And Samuel H8050 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Saul, H7586 I will not return H7725 (QalImpf) with thee: for thou hast rejected H3988 (QalPerf) the word H1697 of the Lord, H3068 and the Lord H3068 hath rejected H3988 (QalImpf) thee from being king H4428 over Israel. H3478

και ειπεν σαμουηλ προς σαουλ ουκ αναστρεφω μετα σου οτι εξουδενωσας το ρημα κυριου και εξουδενωσει σε κυριος του μη ειναι βασιλεα επι τον ισραηλ

So Samuel went back with Saul; and Saul worshiped Yahweh.

So Samuel H8050 turned again H7725 (QalImpf) after H310 Saul; H7586 and Saul H7586 worshipped H7812 (HithImpf) the Lord. H3068

και ανεστρεψεν σαμουηλ οπισω σαουλ και προσεκυνησεν τω κυριω

Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death, but Samuel mourned for Saul. Yahweh grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.

και ου προσεθετο σαμουηλ ετι ιδειν τον σαουλ εως ημερας θανατου αυτου οτι επενθει σαμουηλ επι σαουλ και κυριος μετεμεληθη οτι εβασιλευσεν τον σαουλ επι ισραηλ

Yahweh said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided a king for myself among his sons.”

και ειπεν κυριος προς σαμουηλ εως ποτε συ πενθεις επι σαουλ καγω εξουδενωκα αυτον μη βασιλευειν επι ισραηλ πλησον το κερας σου ελαιου και δευρο αποστειλω σε προς ιεσσαι εως εις βηθλεεμ οτι εορακα εν τοις υιοις αυτου εμοι βασιλευειν

Samuel said, “How can I go? If Saul hears it, he will kill me.” Yahweh said, “Take a heifer with you, and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to Yahweh.’

Now Yahweh’s Spirit departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from Yahweh troubled him.

But the Spirit H7307 of the Lord H3068 departed H5493 (QalPerf) from Saul, H7586 and an evil H7451 spirit H7307 from the Lord H3068 troubled^§ H1204 (PielPerf) him.

και ειπαν οι παιδες σαουλ προς αυτον ιδου δη πνευμα κυριου πονηρον πνιγει σε

Saul said to his servants, “Provide me now a man who can play well, and bring him to me.”

And Saul H7586 said H559 (QalImpf) unto his servants, H5650 Provide H7200 (QalImpv) me now a man H376 that can play H5059 (PielInf) well, H3190 (HiphPtc) and bring H935 (HiphPerf) him to me.

και ειπεν σαουλ προς τους παιδας αυτου ιδετε δη μοι ανδρα ορθως ψαλλοντα και εισαγαγετε αυτον προς εμε

Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “Send me David your son, who is with the sheep.”

Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a container of wine, and a young goat, and sent them by David his son to Saul.

David came to Saul and stood before him. He loved him greatly; and he became his armor bearer.
