For now I have chosen and made this house holy, that my name may be there forever; and my eyes and my heart will be there perpetually.

Solomon had four thousand stalls for horses and chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen that he stationed in the chariot cities and with the king at Jerusalem.

When Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of King Solomon), Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.

King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me about how to answer these people?”

They spoke to him, saying, “If you are kind to these people, please them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”

So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was brought about by God, that Yahweh might establish his word, which he spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

But Yahweh’s word came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

και εγενετο λογος κυριου προς σαμαιαν ανθρωπον του θεου λεγων

‘Yahweh says, “You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers! Every man return to his house; for this thing is of me.”’” So they listened to Yahweh’s words, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

He put shields and spears in every city, and made them exceedingly strong. Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.

And in every several city H5892 he put shields H6793 and spears, H7420 and made them exceeding H7235 (HiphInf) H3966 strong, H2388 (PielImpf) having Judah H3063 and Benjamin H1144 on his side.

κατα πολιν και κατα πολιν θυρεους και δορατα και κατισχυσεν αυτας εις πληθος σφοδρα και ησαν αυτω ιουδα και βενιαμιν

When the kingdom of Rehoboam was established and he was strong, he abandoned Yahweh’s law, and all Israel with him.

And it came to pass, when Rehoboam H7346 had established H3559 (HiphInf) the kingdom, H4438 and had strengthened H2393 himself, he forsook H5800 (QalPerf) the law H8451 of the Lord, H3068 and all Israel H3478 with him.

In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had trespassed against Yahweh,

And it came to pass, that in the fifth H2549 year H8141 of king H4428 Rehoboam H7346 Shishak H7895 king H4428 of Egypt H4714 came up H5927 (QalPerf) against Jerusalem, H3389 because they had transgressed H4603 (QalPerf) against the Lord, H3068

και εγενετο εν τω πεμπτω ετει της βασιλειας ροβοαμ ανεβη σουσακιμ βασιλευς αιγυπτου επι ιερουσαλημ οτι ημαρτον εναντιον κυριου

When Yahweh saw that they humbled themselves, Yahweh’s word came to Shemaiah, saying, “They have humbled themselves. I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance, and my wrath won’t be poured out on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.

And when the Lord H3068 saw H7200 (QalInf) that they humbled H3665 (NiphPerf) themselves, the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 came to Shemaiah, H8098 saying, H559 (QalInf) They have humbled H3665 (NiphPerf) themselves; therefore I will not destroy H7843 (HiphImpf) them, but I will grant H5414 (QalPerf) them some^§ H4592 deliverance; H6413 and my wrath H2534 shall not be poured out H5413 (QalImpf) upon Jerusalem H3389 by the hand H3027 of Shishak. 2 Chronicles 12:7 Or, a little while

Nevertheless they will be his servants, that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.”

As often as the king entered into Yahweh’s house, the guard came and bore them, then brought them back into the guard room.

When he humbled himself, Yahweh’s wrath turned from him, so as not to destroy him altogether. Moreover, there were good things found in Judah.

But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.

^[14:7] και εγενετο τω ασα δυναμις οπλοφορων αιροντων θυρεους και δορατα εν γη ιουδα τριακοσιαι χιλιαδες και εν γη βενιαμιν πελτασται και τοξοται διακοσιαι και πεντηκοντα χιλιαδες παντες ουτοι πολεμισται δυναμεως

They struck all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of Yahweh came on them. They plundered all the cities, for there was much plunder in them.

And they smote H5221 (HiphImpf) all the cities H5892 round about H5439 Gerar; H1642 for the fear H6343 of the Lord H3068 came upon them: and they spoiled H962 (QalImpf) all the cities; H5892 for there was exceeding much H7227 spoil H961 in them.

^[14:13] και εξεκοψαν τας κωμας αυτων κυκλω γεδωρ οτι εγενηθη εκστασις κυριου επ αυτους και εσκυλευσαν πασας τας πολεις αυτων οτι πολλα σκυλα εγενηθη αυτοις

The Spirit of God came on Azariah the son of Oded.

And the Spirit H7307 of God H430 came upon Azariah H5838 the son H1121 of Oded: H5752

και αζαριας υιος ωδηδ εγενετο επ αυτον πνευμα κυριου

He went out to meet Asa, and said to him, “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin! Yahweh is with you while you are with him; and if you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

and he went out H3318 (QalImpf) to meet H6440 Asa,^§ H609 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Hear H8085 (QalImpv) ye me, Asa, H609 and all Judah H3063 and Benjamin; H1144 The Lord H3068 is with you, while ye be with him; and if ye seek H1875 (QalImpf) him, he will be found H4672 (NiphImpf) of you; but if ye forsake H5800 (QalImpf) him, he will forsake H5800 (QalImpf) you.

2 Chronicles 15:2 Heb. before Asa

και εξηλθεν εις απαντησιν ασα και παντι ιουδα και βενιαμιν και ειπεν ακουσατε μου ασα και πας ιουδα και βενιαμιν κυριος μεθ υμων εν τω ειναι υμας μετ αυτου και εαν εκζητησητε αυτον ευρεθησεται υμιν και εαν εγκαταλιπητε αυτον εγκαταλειψει υμας

There was no more war to the thirty-fifth year of Asa’s reign.

και πολεμος ουκ ην μετ αυτου εως του πεμπτου και τριακοστου ετους της βασιλειας ασα

When Baasha heard of it, he stopped building Ramah, and let his work cease.

And it came to pass, when Baasha H1201 heard H8085 (QalInf) it, that he left off H2308 (QalImpf) building H1129 (QalInf) of Ramah, H7414 and let his work H4399 cease. H7673 (HiphImpf)

και εγενετο εν τω ακουσαι βαασα απελιπεν του μηκετι οικοδομειν την ραμα και κατεπαυσεν το εργον αυτου

Weren’t the Ethiopians and the Lubim a huge army, with chariots and exceedingly many horsemen? Yet, because you relied on Yahweh, he delivered them into your hand.

Were not the Ethiopians H3569 and the Lubims H3864 a huge^§ H7230 host, H2428 with very H3966 many H7235 (HiphInf) chariots H7393 and horsemen? H6571 yet, because thou didst rely H8172 (NiphInf) on the Lord, H3068 he delivered H5414 (QalPerf) them into thine hand. H3027

2 Chronicles 16:8 Heb. in abundance

ουχ οι αιθιοπες και λιβυες ησαν εις δυναμιν πολλην εις θαρσος εις ιππεις εις πληθος σφοδρα και εν τω πεποιθεναι σε επι κυριον παρεδωκεν εις τας χειρας σου

Yahweh was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and didn’t seek the Baals,

Therefore Yahweh established the kingdom in his hand. All Judah brought tribute to Jehoshaphat, and he had riches and honor in abundance.

Therefore the Lord H3068 stablished H3559 (HiphImpf) the kingdom H4467 in his hand; H3027 and all Judah H3063 brought^§ H5414 (QalImpf) to Jehoshaphat H3092 presents; H4503 and he had riches H6239 and honour H3519 in abundance. H7230

2 Chronicles 17:5 Heb. gave

και κατηυθυνεν κυριος την βασιλειαν εν χειρι αυτου και εδωκεν πας ιουδα δωρα τω ιωσαφατ και εγενετο αυτω πλουτος και δοξα πολλη

The fear of Yahweh fell on all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

Jehoshaphat grew great exceedingly; and he built fortresses and store cities in Judah.

και ην ιωσαφατ πορευομενος μειζων εως εις υψος και ωκοδομησεν οικησεις εν τη ιουδαια και πολεις οχυρας

He had many works in the cities of Judah; and men of war, mighty men of valor, in Jerusalem.

Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance; and he allied himself with Ahab.

The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. Let your word therefore, please be like one of theirs, and speak good.”

και ο αγγελος ο πορευθεις του καλεσαι τον μιχαιαν ελαλησεν αυτω λεγων ιδου ελαλησαν οι προφηται εν στοματι ενι αγαθα περι του βασιλεως και εστωσαν δη οι λογοι σου ως ενος αυτων και λαλησεις αγαθα

“He said, ‘I will go, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ “He said, ‘You will entice him, and will prevail also. Go and do so.’
