Sirach Prologue – search, read, and compare multiple versions of the Bible

This is a preface rather than scripture, and it says so about itself. The grandson of Jesus ben Sira explains why he translated his grandfather's Sirach into Greek, apologizes that the Greek never quite carries the force of the Hebrew, and dates his own work to his arrival in Egypt. It is also the earliest known mention of the Hebrew scriptures in three parts.
