When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion do we have in David? We don’t have an inheritance in the son of Jesse! Every man to your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So all Israel departed to their tents.

Then King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and the children of Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam hurried to get himself up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had trespassed against Yahweh,

And it came to pass, [that] in the fifth H2549 year H8141 of king H4428 Rehoboam H7346 Shishak H7895 king H4428 of Egypt H4714 came up H5927 (QalPerf) against Jerusalem, H3389 because they had transgressed H4603 (QalPerf) against the Lord, H3068

Then the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, “Yahweh is righteous.”

και ησχυνθησαν οι αρχοντες ισραηλ και ο βασιλευς και ειπαν δικαιος ο κυριος

So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem and took away the treasures of Yahweh’s house and the treasures of the king’s house. He took it all away. He also took away the shields of gold which Solomon had made.

King Rehoboam made shields of bronze in their place, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who kept the door of the king’s house.

So King Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem and reigned; for Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which Yahweh had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother’s name was Naamah the Ammonitess.

In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam, Abijah began to reign over Judah.

In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign, Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not allow anyone to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

“Let there be a treaty between me and you, as there was between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent you silver and gold. Go, break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.”

Ben Hadad listened to King Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they struck Ijon, Dan, Abel Maim, and all the storage cities of Naphtali.

Then Asa the king took all Judah, and they carried away the stones and timber of Ramah, with which Baasha had built; and he built Geba and Mizpah with them.

At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him, “Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on Yahweh your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped out of your hand.

και εν τω καιρω εκεινω ηλθεν ανανι ο προφητης προς ασα βασιλεα ιουδα και ειπεν αυτω εν τω πεποιθεναι σε επι βασιλεα συριας και μη πεποιθεναι σε επι κυριον θεον σου δια τουτο εσωθη δυναμις συριας απο της χειρος σου

Behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

These were those who waited on the king, in addition to those whom the king put in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.

Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me to Ramoth Gilead?” He answered him, “I am as you are, and my people as your people. We will be with you in the war.”

και ειπεν αχααβ βασιλευς ισραηλ προς ιωσαφατ βασιλεα ιουδα πορευση μετ εμου εις ραμωθ της γαλααδιτιδος και ειπεν αυτω ως εγω ουτως και συ ως ο λαος σου και ο λαος μου μετα σου εις πολεμον

Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire first for Yahweh’s word.”

And Jehoshaphat H3092 said H559 (QalImpf) unto the king H4428 of Israel, H3478 Enquire, H1875 (QalImpv) I pray thee, at the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 to day. H3117

και ειπεν ιωσαφατ προς βασιλεα ισραηλ ζητησον δη σημερον τον κυριον

Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, “Shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” They said, “Go up, for God will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

και συνηγαγεν ο βασιλευς ισραηλ τους προφητας τετρακοσιους ανδρας και ειπεν αυτοις ει πορευθω εις ραμωθ γαλααδ εις πολεμον η επισχω και ειπαν αναβαινε και δωσει ο θεος εις τας χειρας του βασιλεως

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Yahweh; but I hate him, for he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil. He is Micaiah the son of Imla.” Jehoshaphat said, “Don’t let the king say so.”

και ειπεν βασιλευς ισραηλ προς ιωσαφατ ετι ανηρ εις του ζητησαι τον κυριον δι αυτου και εγω εμισησα αυτον οτι ουκ εστιν προφητευων περι εμου εις αγαθα οτι πασαι αι ημεραι αυτου εις κακα ουτος μιχαιας υιος ιεμλα και ειπεν ιωσαφατ μη λαλειτω ο βασιλευς ουτως

Then the king of Israel called an officer, and said, “Get Micaiah the son of Imla quickly.”

And the king H4428 of Israel H3478 called H7121 (QalImpf) for one H259 [of his] officers, H5631 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Fetch quickly H4116 (PielImpv) Micaiah H4319 the son H1121 of Imla. H3229

Now the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah each sat on his throne, arrayed in their robes, and they were sitting in an open place at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets were prophesying before them.

All the prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth Gilead, and prosper; for Yahweh will deliver it into the hand of the king.”

και παντες οι προφηται επροφητευον ουτως λεγοντες αναβαινε εις ραμωθ γαλααδ και ευοδωθηση και δωσει κυριος εις χειρας του βασιλεως

The messenger who went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth. Let your word therefore, please be like one of theirs, and speak good.”

And the messenger H4397 that went H1980 (QalPerf) to call H7121 (QalInf) Micaiah H4321 spake H1696 (PielPerf) to him, saying, H559 (QalInf) Behold, the words H1697 of the prophets H5030 [declare] good H2896 to the king H4428 with one H259 assent; H6310 let thy word H1697 therefore, I pray thee, be like one H259 of theirs, and speak H1696 (PielPerf) thou good. και ο αγγελος ο πορευθεις του καλεσαι τον μιχαιαν ελαλησεν αυτω λεγων ιδου ελαλησαν οι προφηται εν στοματι ενι αγαθα περι του βασιλεως και εστωσαν δη οι λογοι σου ως ενος αυτων και λαλησεις αγαθα

When he had come to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth Gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” He said, “Go up, and prosper. They shall be delivered into your hand.”

και ηλθεν προς τον βασιλεα και ειπεν αυτω ο βασιλευς μιχαια ει πορευθω εις ραμωθ γαλααδ εις πολεμον η επισχω και ειπεν αναβαινε και ευοδωσεις και δοθησονται εις χειρας υμων

The king said to him, “How many times shall I adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in Yahweh’s name?”

And the king H4428 said H559 (QalImpf) to him, How many times H6471 shall I adjure H7650 (HiphPtc) thee that thou say H1696 (PielImpf) nothing but the truth H571 to me in the name H8034 of the Lord? H3068

και ειπεν αυτω ο βασιλευς ποσακις ορκιζω σε ινα μη λαλησης προς με πλην αληθειαν εν ονοματι κυριου

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?”

And the king H4428 of Israel H3478 said H559 (QalImpf) to Jehoshaphat, H3092 Did I not tell H559 (QalPerf) thee [that] he would not prophesy H5012 (HithImpf) good H2896 unto me, but evil? H7451

και ειπεν ο βασιλευς ισραηλ προς ιωσαφατ ουκ ειπα σοι οτι ου προφητευει περι εμου αγαθα αλλ η κακα

Yahweh said, ‘Who will entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ One spoke saying in this way, and another saying in that way.

And the Lord H3068 said, H559 (QalImpf) Who shall entice H6601 (PielImpf) Ahab H256 king H4428 of Israel, H3478 that he may go up H5927 (QalImpf) and fall H5307 (QalImpf) at Ramothgilead? H7433 H1568 And one spake H559 (QalImpf) saying H559 (QalActPtc) after this manner, H3602 and another saying H559 (QalActPtc) after that manner. H3602

και ειπεν κυριος τις απατησει τον αχααβ βασιλεα ισραηλ και αναβησεται και πεσειται εν ραμωθ γαλααδ και ειπεν ουτος ουτως και ουτος ειπεν ουτως

The king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son;

Then the king H4428 of Israel H3478 said, H559 (QalImpf) Take H3947 (QalImpv) ye Micaiah, H4321 and carry him back H7725 (HiphImpv) to Amon H526 the governor H8269 of the city, H5892 and to Joash H3101 the king’s H4428 son; H1121

και ειπεν βασιλευς ισραηλ λαβετε τον μιχαιαν και αποστρεψατε προς εμηρ αρχοντα της πολεως και προς ιωας αρχοντα υιον του βασιλεως

and say, ‘The king says, “Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.” ’ ”

And say, H559 (QalPerf) Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the king, H4428 Put H7760 (QalImpv) this [fellow] in the prison, H1004 H3608 and feed H398 (HiphImpv) him with bread H3899 of affliction H3906 and with water H4325 of affliction, H3906 until I return H7725 (QalInf) in peace. H7965

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will disguise myself, and go into the battle; but you put on your robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went into the battle.

και ειπεν βασιλευς ισραηλ προς ιωσαφατ κατακαλυψομαι και εισελευσομαι εις τον πολεμον και συ ενδυσαι τον ιματισμον μου και συνεκαλυψατο βασιλευς ισραηλ και εισηλθεν εις τον πολεμον

Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of his chariots, saying, “Don’t fight with small nor great, except only with the king of Israel.”

When the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, they said, “It is the king of Israel!” Therefore they turned around to fight against him. But Jehoshaphat cried out, and Yahweh helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.

And it came to pass, when the captains H8269 of the chariots H7393 saw H7200 (QalInf) Jehoshaphat, H3092 that they said, H559 (QalPerf) It [is] the king H4428 of Israel. When the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back from pursuing him.

For it came to pass, that, when the captains H8269 of the chariots H7393 perceived H7200 (QalInf) that it was not the king H4428 of Israel, H3478 they turned back again H7725 (QalImpf) from pursuing H310 him.

A certain man drew his bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the armor. Therefore he said to the driver of the chariot, “Turn around and carry me out of the battle, for I am severely wounded.”

και ανηρ ενετεινεν τοξον ευστοχως και επαταξεν τον βασιλεα ισραηλ ανα μεσον του πνευμονος και ανα μεσον του θωρακος και ειπεν τω ηνιοχω επιστρεφε την χειρα σου και εξαγαγε με εκ του πολεμου οτι επονεσα

The battle increased that day. However, the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the evening; and at about sunset, he died.

και ετροπωθη ο πολεμος εν τη ημερα εκεινη και ο βασιλευς ισραηλ ην εστηκως επι του αρματος εως εσπερας εξ εναντιας συριας και απεθανεν δυνοντος του ηλιου

Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.

Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked, and love those who hate Yahweh? Because of this, wrath is on you from before Yahweh.

και εξηλθεν εις απαντησιν αυτου ιου ο του ανανι ο προφητης και ειπεν αυτω βασιλευ ιωσαφατ ει αμαρτωλω συ βοηθεις η μισουμενω υπο κυριου φιλιαζεις δια τουτο εγενετο επι σε οργη παρα κυριου

Behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of Yahweh; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, in all the king’s matters. Also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and may Yahweh be with the good.”

και ιδου αμαριας ο ιερευς ηγουμενος εφ υμας εις παν λογον κυριου και ζαβδιας υιος ισμαηλ ο ηγουμενος εις οικον ιουδα προς παν λογον βασιλεως και οι γραμματεις και οι λευιται προ προσωπου υμων ισχυσατε και ποιησατε και εσται κυριος μετα του αγαθου

and he said, “Listen, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat. Yahweh says to you, ‘Don’t be afraid, and don’t be dismayed because of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

After this, Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel. The same did very wickedly.

He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah. All these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did Ahab’s house, for he had Ahab’s daughter as his wife. He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight.

In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
