He saw a resting place, that it was good, the land, that it was pleasant. He bows his shoulder to the burden, and becomes a servant doing forced labor.

και επειδεν ο θεος τους υιους ισραηλ και εγνωσθη αυτοις

Yahweh’s^§ angel appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the middle of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

Exodus 3:2 “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “Lord” (all caps) in other translations.

And the angel H4397 of the Lord H3068 appeared H7200 (NiphImpf) unto him in a flame H3827 of fire H784 out of the midst H8432 of a bush: H5572 and he looked, H7200 (QalImpf) and, behold, the bush H5572 burned H1197 (QalActPtc) with fire, H784 and the bush H5572 was not consumed. H398 (PualPtc)

ωφθη δε αυτω αγγελος κυριου εν φλογι πυρος εκ του βατου και ορα οτι ο βατος καιεται πυρι ο δε βατος ου κατεκαιετο

Moses said, “I will go now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.”

And Moses H4872 said, H559 (QalImpf) I will now turn aside, H5493 (QalImpf) and see H7200 (QalImpf) this great H1419 sight, H4758 why H4069 the bush H5572 is not burnt. H1197 (QalImpf)

ειπεν δε μωυσης παρελθων οψομαι το οραμα το μεγα τουτο τι οτι ου κατακαιεται ο βατος

When Yahweh saw that he came over to see, God called to him out of the middle of the bush, and said, “Moses! Moses!” He said, “Here I am.”

And when the Lord H3068 saw H7200 (QalImpf) that he turned aside H5493 (QalPerf) to see, H7200 (QalInf) God H430 called H7121 (QalImpf) unto him out of the midst H8432 of the bush, H5572 and said, H559 (QalImpf) Moses, H4872 Moses. H4872 And he said, H559 (QalImpf) Here am I.

ως δε ειδεν κυριος οτι προσαγει ιδειν εκαλεσεν αυτον κυριος εκ του βατου λεγων μωυση μωυση ο δε ειπεν τι εστιν

Yahweh said, “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

And the Lord H3068 said, H559 (QalImpf) I have surely H7200 (QalInf) seen H7200 (QalPerf) the affliction H6040 of my people H5971 which are in Egypt, H4714 and have heard H8085 (QalPerf) their cry H6818 by reason H6440 of their taskmasters; H5065 (QalActPtc) for I know H3045 (QalPerf) their sorrows; H4341

ειπεν δε κυριος προς μωυσην ιδων ειδον την κακωσιν του λαου μου του εν αιγυπτω και της κραυγης αυτων ακηκοα απο των εργοδιωκτων οιδα γαρ την οδυνην αυτων

Now, behold, the cry of the children of Israel has come to me. Moreover I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

Now therefore, behold, the cry H6818 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 is come H935 (QalPerf) unto me: and I have also seen H7200 (QalPerf) the oppression H3906 wherewith the Egyptians H4714 oppress H3905 (QalPtc) them.

και νυν ιδου κραυγη των υιων ισραηλ ηκει προς με καγω εωρακα τον θλιμμον ον οι αιγυπτιοι θλιβουσιν αυτους

Go and gather the elders of Israel together, and tell them, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, “I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt.

ελθων ουν συναγαγε την γερουσιαν των υιων ισραηλ και ερεις προς αυτους κυριος ο θεος των πατερων υμων ωπται μοι θεος αβρααμ και θεος ισαακ και θεος ιακωβ λεγων επισκοπη επεσκεμμαι υμας και οσα συμβεβηκεν υμιν εν αιγυπτω

Moses answered, “But, behold, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice; for they will say, ‘Yahweh has not appeared to you.’”

And Moses H4872 answered H6030 (QalImpf) and said, H559 (QalImpf) But, behold, they will not believe H539 (HiphImpf) me, nor hearken H8085 (QalImpf) unto my voice: H6963 for they will say, H559 (QalImpf) The Lord H3068 hath not appeared H7200 (NiphPerf) unto thee.

απεκριθη δε μωυσης και ειπεν εαν ουν μη πιστευσωσιν μοι μηδε εισακουσωσιν της φωνης μου ερουσιν γαρ οτι ουκ ωπται σοι ο θεος τι ερω προς αυτους

“This is so that they may believe that Yahweh, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.”

that they may believe H539 (HiphImpf) that the Lord H3068 God H430 of their fathers, H1 the God H430 of Abraham, H85 the God H430 of Isaac, H3327 and the God H430 of Jacob, H3290 hath appeared H7200 (NiphPerf) unto thee.

ινα πιστευσωσιν σοι οτι ωπται σοι κυριος ο θεος των πατερων αυτων θεος αβρααμ και θεος ισαακ και θεος ιακωβ

Yahweh’s anger burned against Moses, and he said, “What about Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Also, behold, he is coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.

And the anger H639 of the Lord H3068 was kindled H2734 (QalImpf) against Moses, H4872 and he said, H559 (QalImpf) Is not Aaron H175 the Levite H3881 thy brother? H251 I know H3045 (QalPerf) that he can speak H1696 (PielImpf) well. και θυμωθεις οργη κυριος επι μωυσην ειπεν ουκ ιδου ααρων ο αδελφος σου ο λευιτης επισταμαι οτι λαλων λαλησει αυτος σοι και ιδου αυτος εξελευσεται εις συναντησιν σοι και ιδων σε χαρησεται εν εαυτω

Moses went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and said to him, “Please let me go and return to my brothers who are in Egypt, and see whether they are still alive.” Jethro said to Moses, “Go in peace.”

And Moses H4872 went H3212 (QalImpf) and returned H7725 (QalImpf) to Jethro H3500 his father in law, H2859 (QalActPtc) and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Let me go, H3212 (QalImpf) I pray thee, and return H7725 (QalImpf) unto my brethren H251 which are in Egypt, H4714 and see H7200 (QalImpf) whether they be yet H5750 alive. επορευθη δε μωυσης και απεστρεψεν προς ιοθορ τον γαμβρον αυτου και λεγει πορευσομαι και αποστρεψω προς τους αδελφους μου τους εν αιγυπτω και οψομαι ει ετι ζωσιν και ειπεν ιοθορ μωυση βαδιζε υγιαινων

Yahweh said to Moses, “When you go back into Egypt, see that you do before Pharaoh all the wonders which I have put in your hand, but I will harden his heart and he will not let the people go.

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Moses, H4872 When thou goest H3212 (QalInf) to return H7725 (QalInf) into Egypt, H4714 see H7200 (QalImpv) that thou do H6213 (QalPerf) all those wonders H4159 before H6440 Pharaoh, H6547 which I have put H7760 (QalPerf) in thine hand: H3027 but I will harden H2388 (PielImpf) his heart, H3820 that he shall not let the people H5971 go. ειπεν δε κυριος προς μωυσην πορευομενου σου και αποστρεφοντος εις αιγυπτον ορα παντα τα τερατα α εδωκα εν ταις χερσιν σου ποιησεις αυτα εναντιον φαραω εγω δε σκληρυνω την καρδιαν αυτου και ου μη εξαποστειλη τον λαον
