Who are devising to cause My people To forget My name by their dreams, That they recount each to his neighbour, As their fathers forgot my name for Baal.

“Therefore behold, I am against the prophets,” says Yahweh, “who each steal my words from his neighbor.

Therefore, lo, I am against the prophets, An affirmation of Jehovah, Stealing My words each from his neighbour.

As for the prophet, the priest, and the people, who say, ‘The message from Yahweh,’ I will even punish that man and his household.

And the prophet, and the priest, and the people, That saith, The burden of Jehovah, I have seen after that man, and after his house.

You will say everyone to his neighbor, and everyone to his brother, ‘What has Yahweh answered?’ and, ‘What has Yahweh said?’

‘Turn back, I pray you, each from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell on the ground that Jehovah hath given to you and to your fathers from age unto age,

and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the world, which are on the surface of the earth. The king of Sheshach will drink after them.

If so be they hearken, and turn back each from his evil way, then I have repented concerning the evil that I am thinking of doing to them, because of the evil of their doings.

Then the priests and the prophets spoke to the princes and to all the people, saying, “This man is worthy of death, for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.”

But everyone will die for his own iniquity. Every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth will be set on edge.

But-each for his own iniquity doth die, Every man who is eating the unripe fruit, Blunted are his teeth.

They will no longer each teach his neighbor, and every man teach his brother, saying, ‘Know Yahweh;’ for they will all know me, from their least to their greatest,” says Yahweh, “for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.”

but you turned and profaned my name, and every man caused his servant and every man his handmaid, whom you had let go free at their pleasure, to return. You brought them into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.’ ”

And-ye turn back, and pollute My name, and ye cause each his man-servant and each his maid-servant, whom he had sent forth free, (at their pleasure,) to return, and ye subdue them to be to you for men-servants and for maid-servants.

Therefore Yahweh says: “You have not listened to me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother, and every man to his neighbor. Behold, I proclaim to you a liberty,” says Yahweh, “to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine. I will make you be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth.

Therefore thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord; H3068 Ye have not hearkened H8085 (QalPerf) unto me, in proclaiming H7121 (QalInf) liberty, H1865 every one H376 to his brother, H251 and every man H376 to his neighbour: H7453 behold, I proclaim H7121 (QalActPtc) a liberty H1865 for you, saith H5002 (QalPasPtc) the Lord, H3068 to the sword, H2719 to the pestilence, H1698 and to the famine; H7458 and I will make H5414 (QalPerf) you to be removed H2189 (Qere) H2113 into all the kingdoms H4467 of the earth. and I brought them into Yahweh’s house, into the room of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the room of the princes, which was above the room of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

‘Go, and thou hast said to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem: Do ye not receive instruction?-to hearken unto My words-an affirmation of Jehovah.

I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, ‘Every one of you must return now from his evil way, amend your doings, and don’t go after other gods to serve them. Then you will dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers;’ but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me.

And I send unto you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending, saying: Turn back, I pray you, each from his evil way, and amend your doings, yea, ye do not walk after other gods, to serve them, and dwell ye on the ground that I have given to you and to your fathers; and ye have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened unto Me.

therefore Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Jonadab the son of Rechab will not lack a man to stand before me forever.’ ”

therefore, thus said Jehovah of Hosts, God of Israel, Of Jonadab son of Rechab one standing before me is not cut off all the days.’

It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I intend to do to them, that they may each return from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.”

It may be that the house H1004 of Judah H3063 will hear H8085 (QalImpf) all the evil H7451 which I purpose H2803 (QalActPtc) to do H6213 (QalInf) unto them; that they may return H7725 (QalImpf) every man H376 from his evil H7451 way; H1870 that I may forgive H5545 (QalPerf) their iniquity H5771 and their sin. if so be the house of Israel do hear all the evil that I am thinking of doing to them, so that they turn back each from is evil way, and I have been propitious to their iniquity, and to their sin.’

It may be they will present their supplication before Yahweh, and will each return from his evil way; for Yahweh has pronounced great anger and wrath against this people.”

if so be their supplication doth fall before Jehovah, and they turn back each from his evil way, for great is the anger and the fury that Jehovah hath spoken concerning this people.’

Now when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said to Baruch, “We will surely tell the king of all these words.”

and it cometh to pass, when they hear all the words, they have been afraid one at another, and say unto Baruch, ‘We do surely declare to the king all these words.’

Then the princes said to Baruch, “You and Jeremiah go hide. Don’t let anyone know where you are.”

I will punish him, his offspring, and his servants for their iniquity. I will bring on them, on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they didn’t listen.” ’ ”

and I have charged on him, and on his seed, and on his servants, their iniquity; and I have brought in on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto the men of Judah, all the evil that I have spoken unto them, and they hearkened not.’

For though you had struck the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and only wounded men remained among them, they would each rise up in his tent and burn this city with fire.’ ”

Then the princes said to the king, “Please let this man be put to death, because he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them; for this man doesn’t seek the welfare of this people, but harm.”

And the heads say unto the king, ‘Let, we pray thee, this man be put to death, because that he is making feeble the hands of the men of war, who are left in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking unto them according to these words, for this man is not seeking for the peace of this people, but for its evil.’

Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon (the king was then sitting in Benjamin’s gate),

Now when Ebedmelech H5663 the Ethiopian, H3569 one H376 of the eunuchs H5631 which was in the king’s H4428 house, H1004 heard H8085 (QalImpf) that they had put H5414 (QalPerf) Jeremiah H3414 in the dungeon; H953 the king H4428 then sitting H3427 (QalActPtc) in the gate H8179 of Benjamin; H1144

And Ebed-Melech the Cushite, a eunuch who is in the king’s house, heareth that they have put Jeremiah into the pit; and the king is sitting at the gate of Benjamin,

“My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon. He is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city.”

Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, “Take from here thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies.”

And the king commandeth Ebed-Melech the Cushite, saying, ‘Take with thee from this thirty men, and thou hast brought up Jeremiah the prophet from the pit, before he dieth.’

So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took from there rags and worn-out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.

So Ebedmelech H5663 took H3947 (QalImpf) the men H582 with him, H3027 and went H935 (QalImpf) into the house H1004 of the king H4428 under the treasury, H214 and took H3947 (QalImpf) thence old H1094 cast clouts H5499 and old H1094 rotten rags, H4418 and let them down H7971 (PielImpf) by cords H2256 into the dungeon H953 to Jeremiah. And Ebed-Melech taketh the men with him, and entereth the house of the king, unto the place of the treasury, and taketh thence worn-out clouts, and worn-out rags, and sendeth them unto Jeremiah unto the pit by cords.

So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, “As Yahweh lives, who made our souls, I will not put you to death, neither will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life.”

And the king Zedekiah sweareth unto Jeremiah in secret, saying, ‘Jehovah liveth, He who made for us this soul, I do not put thee to death, nor give thee unto the hand of these men who are seeking thy soul.’

‘Behold, all the women who are left in the king of Judah’s house will be brought out to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women will say, “Your familiar friends have turned on you, and have prevailed over you. Your feet are sunk in the mire, they have turned away from you.”

And, behold, all the women H802 that are left H7604 (NiphPerf) in the king H4428 of Judah’s H3063 house H1004 [shall be] brought forth H3318 (HophPtc) to the king H4428 of Babylon’s H894 princes, H8269 and those [women] shall say, H559 (QalActPtc) Thy friends H582 H7965 have set thee on, H5496 (HiphPerf) and have prevailed H3201 (QalPerf) against thee: thy feet H7272 are sunk H2883 (HophPerf) in the mire, H1206 [and] they are turned away H5472 (NiphPerf) back. That, lo, all the women who have been left in the house of the king of Judah are brought forth unto the heads of the king of Babylon, and lo, they are saying: Persuaded thee, and prevailed against thee, Have thine allies, Sunk into mire have thy feet, They have been turned backward.

Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, “Let no man know of these words, and you won’t die.

And Zedekiah saith unto Jeremiah, ‘Let no man know of these words, and thou dost not die;

When Zedekiah the king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, then they fled and went out of the city by night, by the way of the king’s garden, through the gate between the two walls; and he went out toward the Arabah.

And it came to pass, [that] when Zedekiah H6667 the king H4428 of Judah H3063 saw H7200 (QalPerf) them, and all the men H582 of war, H4421 then they fled, H1272 (QalImpf) and went forth H3318 (QalImpf) out of the city H5892 by night, H3915 by the way H1870 of the king’s H4428 garden, H1588 by the gate H8179 betwixt the two walls: H2346 and he went out H3318 (QalImpf) the way H1870 of the plain. And it cometh to pass, when Zedekiah king of Judah, and all the men of war, have seen them, that they flee and go forth by night from the city, the way of the king’s garden, through the gate between the two walls, and he goeth forth the way of the plain.

But I will deliver you in that day,” says Yahweh; “and you will not be given into the hand of the men of whom you are afraid.

Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, women, children, and of the poorest of the land, of those who were not carried away captive to Babylon,

And all the heads of the forces that are in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon hath appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he hath charged him with men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;
