Jeremiah 37 (WEBP)

[1] Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
[2] But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, listened to Yahweh’s words, which he spoke by the prophet Jeremiah.
[3] Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “Pray now to Yahweh our God for us.”
[4] Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people, for they had not put him into prison.
[5] Pharaoh’s army had come out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news of them, they withdrew from Jerusalem.
[6] Then Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Jeremiah, saying,
[7] “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘You shall tell the king of Judah, who sent you to me to inquire of me: “Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has come out to help you, will return to Egypt into their own land.
[8] The Chaldeans will come again, and fight against this city. They will take it and burn it with fire.” ’
[9] “Yahweh says, ‘Don’t deceive yourselves, saying, “The Chaldeans will surely depart from us;” for they will not depart.
[10] For though you had struck the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and only wounded men remained among them, they would each rise up in his tent and burn this city with fire.’ ”
[11] When the army of the Chaldeans had withdrawn from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,
[12] then Jeremiah went out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive his portion there, in the middle of the people.
[13] When he was in Benjamin’s gate, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he seized Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “You are defecting to the Chaldeans!”
[14] Then Jeremiah said, “That is false! I am not defecting to the Chaldeans.” But he didn’t listen to him; so Irijah seized Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
[15] The princes were angry with Jeremiah, and struck him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.
[16] When Jeremiah had come into the dungeon house and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days,
[17] then Zedekiah the king sent and had him brought out. The king asked him secretly in his house, “Is there any word from Yahweh?” Jeremiah said, “There is.” He also said, “You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.”
[18] Moreover Jeremiah said to King Zedekiah, “How have I sinned against you, against your servants, or against this people, that you have put me in prison?
[19] Now where are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, ‘The king of Babylon will not come against you, nor against this land’?
[20] Now please hear, my lord the king: please let my supplication be presented before you, that you not cause me to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.”
[21] Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard. They gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city was gone. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

Jeremiah 37 (KJVS)

[1] And king H4428 Zedekiah H6667 the son H1121 of Josiah H2977 reigned H4427 (8799) instead of Coniah H3659 the son H1121 of Jehoiakim H3079, whom Nebuchadrezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon H894 made king H4427 (8689) in the land H776 of Judah H3063.
[2] But neither he, nor his servants H5650, nor the people H5971 of the land H776, did hearken H8085 (8804) unto the words H1697 of the LORD H3068, which he spake H1696 (8765) by H3027 the prophet H5030 Jeremiah H3414.
[3] And Zedekiah H6667 the king H4428 sent H7971 (8799) Jehucal H3081 the son H1121 of Shelemiah H8018 and Zephaniah H6846 the son H1121 of Maaseiah H4641 the priest H3548 to the prophet H5030 Jeremiah H3414, saying H559 (8800), Pray H6419 (8690) now unto the LORD H3068 our God H430 for us.
[4] Now Jeremiah H3414 came in H935 (8804) and went out H3318 (8802) among H8432 the people H5971: for they had not put H5414 (8804) him into prison H1004 H3628.
[5] Then Pharaoh’s H6547 army H2428 was come forth H3318 (8804) out of Egypt H4714: and when the Chaldeans H3778 that besieged H6696 (8802) Jerusalem H3389 heard H8085 (8799) tidings H8088 of them, they departed H5927 (8735) from Jerusalem H3389.
[6] Then came the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 unto the prophet H5030 Jeremiah H3414, saying H559 (8800),
[7] Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068, the God H430 of Israel H3478; Thus shall ye say H559 (8799) to the king H4428 of Judah H3063, that sent H7971 (8802) you unto me to enquire H1875 (8800) of me; Behold, Pharaoh’s H6547 army H2428, which is come forth H3318 (8802) to help H5833 you, shall return H7725 (8804) to Egypt H4714 into their own land H776.
[8] And the Chaldeans H3778 shall come again H7725 (8804), and fight H3898 (8738) against this city H5892, and take H3920 (8804) it, and burn H8313 (8804) it with fire H784.
[9] Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068; Deceive H5377 (8686) not yourselves H5315, saying H559 (8800), The Chaldeans H3778 shall surely H1980 (8800) depart H3212 (8799) from us: for they shall not depart H3212 (8799).
[10] For though ye had smitten H5221 (8689) the whole army H2428 of the Chaldeans H3778 that fight H3898 (8737) against you, and there remained H7604 (8738) [but] wounded H1856 (8794) men H582 among them, [yet] should they rise up H6965 (8799) every man H376 in his tent H168, and burn H8313 (8804) this city H5892 with fire H784.
[11] And it came to pass, that when the army H2428 of the Chaldeans H3778 was broken up H5927 (8736) from Jerusalem H3389 for fear H6440 of Pharaoh’s H6547 army H2428,
[12] Then Jeremiah H3414 went forth H3318 (8799) out of Jerusalem H3389 to go H3212 (8800) into the land H776 of Benjamin H1144, to separate H2505 (8687) himself thence in the midst H8432 of the people H5971.
[13] And when he was in the gate H8179 of Benjamin H1144, a captain H1167 of the ward H6488 [was] there, whose name H8034 [was] Irijah H3376, the son H1121 of Shelemiah H8018, the son H1121 of Hananiah H2608; and he took H8610 (8799) Jeremiah H3414 the prophet H5030, saying H559 (8800), Thou fallest away H5307 (8802) to the Chaldeans H3778.
[14] Then said H559 (8799) Jeremiah H3414, [It is] false H8267; I fall not away H5307 (8802) to the Chaldeans H3778. But he hearkened H8085 (8804) not to him: so Irijah H3376 took H8610 (8799) Jeremiah H3414, and brought H935 (8686) him to the princes H8269.
[15] Wherefore the princes H8269 were wroth H7107 (8799) with Jeremiah H3414, and smote H5221 (8689) him, and put H5414 (8804) him in prison H612 in the house H1004 of Jonathan H3083 the scribe H5608 (8802): for they had made H6213 (8804) that the prison H3608.
[16] When Jeremiah H3414 was entered H935 (8804) into the dungeon H1004 H953, and into the cabins H2588, and Jeremiah H3414 had remained H3427 (8799) there many H7227 days H3117;
[17] Then Zedekiah H6667 the king H4428 sent H7971 (8799), and took him out H3947 (8799): and the king H4428 asked H7592 (8799) him secretly H5643 in his house H1004, and said H559 (8799), Is there [any] word H1697 from the LORD H3068? And Jeremiah H3414 said H559 (8799), There is H3426: for, said H559 (8799) he, thou shalt be delivered H5414 (8735) into the hand H3027 of the king H4428 of Babylon H894.
[18] Moreover Jeremiah H3414 said H559 (8799) unto king H4428 Zedekiah H6667, What have I offended H2398 (8804) against thee, or against thy servants H5650, or against this people H5971, that ye have put H5414 (8804) me in prison H1004 H3608?
[19] Where [are] now H346 your prophets H5030 which prophesied H5012 (8738) unto you, saying H559 (8800), The king H4428 of Babylon H894 shall not come H935 (8799) against you, nor against this land H776?
[20] Therefore hear H8085 (8798) now, I pray thee, O my lord H113 the king H4428: let my supplication H8467, I pray thee, be accepted H5307 (8799) before H6440 thee; that thou cause me not to return H7725 (8686) to the house H1004 of Jonathan H3083 the scribe H5608 (8802), lest I die H4191 (8799) there.
[21] Then Zedekiah H6667 the king H4428 commanded H6680 (8762) that they should commit H6485 (8686) Jeremiah H3414 into the court H2691 of the prison H4307, and that they should give H5414 (8800) him daily H3117 a piece H3603 of bread H3899 out of the bakers H644 (8802)’ street H2351, until all the bread H3899 in the city H5892 were spent H8552 (8800). Thus Jeremiah H3414 remained H3427 (8799) in the court H2691 of the prison H4307.

Young’s Literal Translation

Jeremiah 37 (YLT)

[1] And reign doth king Zedekiah son of Josiah instead of Coniah son of Jehoiakim whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon had caused to reign in the land of Judah,
[2] and he hath not hearkened, he, and his servants, and the people of the land, unto the words of Jehovah, that He spake by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet.
[3] And Zedekiah the king sendeth Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying, ‘Pray, we beseech thee, for us unto Jehovah our God.’
[4] And Jeremiah is coming in and going out in the midst of the people, (and they have not put him in the prison-house),
[5] and the force of Pharaoh hath come out of Egypt, and the Chaldeans, who are laying siege against Jerusalem, hear their report, and go up from off Jerusalem.
[6] And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah the prophet, saying:
[7] ‘Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Thus do ye say unto the king of Judah, who is sending you unto Me, to seek Me: Lo, the force of Pharaoh that is coming out to you for help hath turned back to its land, to Egypt,
[8] and the Chaldeans have turned back, and fought against this city, and captured it, and burnt it with fire.
[9] ‘Thus said Jehovah: Lift not up your souls saying, The Chaldeans surely go from off us, for they do not go;
[10] for though ye had smitten all the force of the Chaldeans who are fighting with you, and there were left of them wounded men-each in his tent-they rise, and have burnt this city with fire.’
[11] And it hath come to pass, in the going up of the force of the Chaldeans from off Jerusalem, because of the force of Pharaoh,
[12] that Jeremiah goeth out from Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin, to receive a portion thence in the midst of the people.
[13] And it cometh to pass, he is at the gate of Benjamin, and there is a master of the ward-and his name is Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah-and he catcheth Jeremiah the prophet, saying, ‘Unto the Chaldeans thou art falling.’
[14] And Jeremiah saith, ‘Falsehood-I am not falling unto the Chaldeans;’ and he hath not hearkened unto him, and Irijah layeth hold on Jeremiah, and bringeth him in unto the heads,
[15] and the heads are wroth against Jeremiah, and have smitten him, and put him in the prison-house-the house of Jonathan the scribe, for it they had made for a prison-house.
[16] When Jeremiah hath entered into the house of the dungeon, and unto the cells, then Jeremiah dwelleth there many days,
[17] and the king Zedekiah sendeth, and taketh him, and the king asketh him in his house in secret, and saith, ‘Is there a word from Jehovah?’ And Jeremiah saith, ‘There is,’ and he saith, ‘Into the hand of the king of Babylon thou art given.’
[18] And Jeremiah saith unto the king Zedekiah, ‘What have I sinned against thee, and against thy servants, and against this people, that ye have given me unto a prison-house?
[19] And where are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon doth not come in against you, and against this land?
[20] And now, hearken, I pray thee, my lord, O king, let my supplication fall, I pray thee, before thee, and cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, that I die not there.’
[21] And the king Zedekiah commandeth, and they commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, also to give to him a cake of bread daily from the bakers’ street, till the consumption of all the bread of the city, and Jeremiah dwelleth in the court of the prison.
