Jeremiah 14 (WEBP)
[1] This is Yahweh’s word that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought:
[2] “Judah mourns, and its gates languish. They sit in black on the ground. The cry of Jerusalem goes up.
[3] Their nobles send their little ones to the waters. They come to the cisterns, and find no water. They return with their vessels empty. They are disappointed and confounded, and cover their heads.
[4] Because of the ground which is cracked, because no rain has been in the land, the plowmen are disappointed. They cover their heads.
[5] Yes, the doe in the field also calves and forsakes her young, because there is no grass.
[6] The wild donkeys stand on the bare heights. They pant for air like jackals. Their eyes fail, because there is no vegetation.
[7] Though our iniquities testify against us, work for your name’s sake, Yahweh; for our rebellions are many. We have sinned against you.
[8] You hope of Israel, its Savior in the time of trouble, why should you be as a foreigner in the land, and as a wayfaring man who turns aside to stay for a night?
[9] Why should you be like a scared man, as a mighty man who can’t save? Yet you, Yahweh, are in the middle of us, and we are called by your name. Don’t leave us.
[10] Yahweh says to this people: “Even so they have loved to wander. They have not restrained their feet. Therefore Yahweh does not accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity, and punish them for their sins.”
[11] Yahweh said to me, “Don’t pray for this people for their good.
[12] When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and meal offering, I will not accept them; but I will consume them by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.”
[13] Then I said, “Ah, Lord Yahweh! Behold, the prophets tell them, ‘You will not see the sword, neither will you have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.’ ”
[14] Then Yahweh said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I didn’t send them. I didn’t command them. I didn’t speak to them. They prophesy to you a lying vision, divination, and a thing of nothing, and the deceit of their own heart.
[15] Therefore Yahweh says concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, but I didn’t send them, yet they say, ‘Sword and famine will not be in this land.’ Those prophets will be consumed by sword and famine.
[16] The people to whom they prophesy will be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword. They will have no one to bury them—them, their wives, their sons, or their daughters, for I will pour their wickedness on them.
[17] “You shall say this word to them: “ ‘Let my eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous wound.
[18] If I go out into the field, then behold, the slain with the sword! If I enter into the city, then behold, those who are sick with famine! For both the prophet and the priest go about in the land, and have no knowledge.’ ”
[19] Have you utterly rejected Judah? Has your soul loathed Zion? Why have you struck us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold, dismay!
[20] We acknowledge, Yahweh, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against you.
[21] Do not abhor us, for your name’s sake. Do not disgrace the throne of your glory. Remember, and don’t break your covenant with us.
[22] Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, Yahweh our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.

Jeremiah 14 (KJVS)
[1] The word H1697 of the LORD H3068 that came to Jeremiah H3414 concerning H1697 the dearth H1226.
[2] Judah H3063 mourneth H56 (8804), and the gates H8179 thereof languish H535 (8797); they are black H6937 (8804) unto the ground H776; and the cry H6682 of Jerusalem H3389 is gone up H5927 (8804).
[3] And their nobles H117 have sent H7971 (8804) their little ones H6810 to the waters H4325: they came H935 (8804) to the pits H1356 (8676) H1360, [and] found H4672 (8804) no water H4325; they returned H7725 (8804) with their vessels H3627 empty H7387; they were ashamed H954 (8804) and confounded H3637 (8717), and covered H2645 (8804) their heads H7218.
[4] Because the ground H127 is chapt H2865 (8804), for there was no rain H1653 in the earth H776, the plowmen H406 were ashamed H954 (8804), they covered H2645 (8804) their heads H7218.
[5] Yea, the hind H365 also calved H3205 (8804) in the field H7704, and forsook H5800 (8800) [it], because there was no grass H1877.
[6] And the wild asses H6501 did stand H5975 (8804) in the high places H8205, they snuffed up H7602 (8804) the wind H7307 like dragons H8577; their eyes H5869 did fail H3615 (8804), because [there was] no grass H6212.
[7] O LORD H3068, though our iniquities H5771 testify H6030 (8804) against us, do H6213 (8798) thou [it] for thy name’s H8034 sake: for our backslidings H4878 are many H7231 (8804); we have sinned H2398 (8804) against thee.
[8] O the hope H4723 of Israel H3478, the saviour H3467 (8688) thereof in time H6256 of trouble H6869, why shouldest thou be as a stranger H1616 in the land H776, and as a wayfaring man H732 (8802) [that] turneth aside H5186 (8804) to tarry for a night H3885 (8800)?
[9] Why shouldest thou be as a man H376 astonied H1724 (8737), as a mighty man H1368 [that] cannot H3201 (8799) save H3467 (8687)? yet thou, O LORD H3068, [art] in the midst H7130 of us, and we are called H7121 (8738) by thy name H8034; leave H3240 (8686) us not.
[10] Thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 unto this people H5971, Thus have they loved H157 (8804) to wander H5128 (8800), they have not refrained H2820 (8804) their feet H7272, therefore the LORD H3068 doth not accept H7521 (8804) them; he will now remember H2142 (8799) their iniquity H5771, and visit H6485 (8799) their sins H2403.
[11] Then said H559 (8799) the LORD H3068 unto me, Pray H6419 (8691) not for this people H5971 for [their] good H2896.
[12] When they fast H6684 (8799), I will not hear H8085 (8802) their cry H7440; and when they offer H5927 (8686) burnt offering H5930 and an oblation H4503, I will not accept H7521 (8802) them: but I will consume H3615 (8764) them by the sword H2719, and by the famine H7458, and by the pestilence H1698.
[13] Then said H559 (8799) I, Ah H162, Lord H136 GOD H3069! behold, the prophets H5030 say H559 (8802) unto them, Ye shall not see H7200 (8799) the sword H2719, neither shall ye have famine H7458; but I will give H5414 (8799) you assured H571 peace H7965 in this place H4725.
[14] Then the LORD H3068 said H559 (8799) unto me, The prophets H5030 prophesy H5012 (8737) lies H8267 in my name H8034: I sent H7971 (8804) them not, neither have I commanded H6680 (8765) them, neither spake H1696 (8765) unto them: they prophesy H5012 (8693) unto you a false H8267 vision H2377 and divination H7081, and a thing of nought H457 (8675) H434, and the deceit H8649 of their heart H3820.
[15] Therefore thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 concerning the prophets H5030 that prophesy H5012 (8737) in my name H8034, and I sent H7971 (8804) them not, yet they say H559 (8802), Sword H2719 and famine H7458 shall not be in this land H776; By sword H2719 and famine H7458 shall those prophets H5030 be consumed H8552 (8735).
[16] And the people H5971 to whom they prophesy H5012 (8737) shall be cast out H7993 (8716) in the streets H2351 of Jerusalem H3389 because H6440 of the famine H7458 and the sword H2719; and they shall have none to bury H6912 (8764) them H1992, them, their wives H802, nor their sons H1121, nor their daughters H1323: for I will pour H8210 (8804) their wickedness H7451 upon them.
[17] Therefore thou shalt say H559 (8804) this word H1697 unto them; Let mine eyes H5869 run down H3381 (8799) with tears H1832 night H3915 and day H3119, and let them not cease H1820 (8799): for the virgin H1330 daughter H1323 of my people H5971 is broken H7665 (8738) with a great H1419 breach H7667, with a very H3966 grievous H2470 (8737) blow H4347.
[18] If I go forth H3318 (8804) into the field H7704, then behold the slain H2491 with the sword H2719! and if I enter H935 (8804) into the city H5892, then behold them that are sick H8463 with famine H7458! yea, both the prophet H5030 and the priest H3548 go about H5503 (8804) into a land H776 that they know H3045 (8804) not.
[19] Hast thou utterly H3988 (8800) rejected H3988 (8804) Judah H3063? hath thy soul H5315 lothed H1602 (8804) Zion H6726? why hast thou smitten H5221 (8689) us, and [there is] no healing H4832 for us? we looked H6960 (8763) for peace H7965, and [there is] no good H2896; and for the time H6256 of healing H4832, and behold trouble H1205!
[20] We acknowledge H3045 (8804), O LORD H3068, our wickedness H7562, [and] the iniquity H5771 of our fathers H1: for we have sinned H2398 (8804) against thee.
[21] Do not abhor H5006 (8799) [us], for thy name’s H8034 sake, do not disgrace H5034 (8762) the throne H3678 of thy glory H3519: remember H2142 (8798), break H6565 (8686) not thy covenant H1285 with us.
[22] Are there H3426 [any] among the vanities H1892 of the Gentiles H1471 that can cause rain H1652 (8688)? or can the heavens H8064 give H5414 (8799) showers H7241? [art] not thou he, O LORD H3068 our God H430? therefore we will wait H6960 (8762) upon thee: for thou hast made H6213 (8804) all these [things].
Young’s Literal Translation
Jeremiah 14 (YLT)
[1] That which hath been the word of Jehovah unto Jeremiah concerning the matters of the dearths:
[2] Mourned hath Judah, and her gates have languished, They have mourned to the earth, And the cry of Jerusalem hath gone up.
[3] And their honourable ones have sent their little ones to the water, They have come unto ditches, They have not found water, They have turned back-their vessels empty! They have been ashamed, And have blushed and covered their head.
[4] Because the ground hath been broken, For there hath been no rain in the land, Ashamed have been husbandmen, They have covered their head.
[5] For even the hind in the field hath brought forth-to forsake it! For there hath been no grass.
[6] And wild asses have stood on high places, They have swallowed up wind like dragons, Consumed have been their eyes, for there is no herb.
[7] Surely our iniquities have testified against us, O Jehovah, work for Thy name’s sake, For many have been our backslidings, Against Thee we have sinned.
[8] O Hope of Israel-its saviour in time of trouble, Why art Thou as a sojourner in the land? And as a traveller turned aside to lodge?
[9] Why art Thou as one dumb? As a mighty one not able to save? And Thou art in our midst, O Jehovah, And Thy name over us is called, leave us not.
[10] Thus said Jehovah concerning this people: Well they have loved to wander, Their feet they have not restrained, And Jehovah hath not accepted them, Now doth He remember their iniquity, And inspect their sin.
[11] And Jehovah saith unto me: Thou dost not pray for this people for good,
[12] When they fast, I hearken not unto their cry, And when they cause to ascend burnt-offering and present, I accept them not, For by sword, and by famine, And by pestilence, I am consuming them.
[13] And I say, ‘Ah, Lord Jehovah, Lo, the prophets are saying to them: Ye do not see a sword, yea, famine is not to you, For true peace I give to you in this place.’
[14] And Jehovah saith unto me: Falsehood the prophets are prophesying in My name, I did not send them, nor command them, Nor have I spoken unto them: A false vision, and divination, and vanity, And the deceit of their own heart, they are prophesying to you.
[15] Therefore, thus said Jehovah concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My name, and I have not sent them, and they are saying, Sword and famine is not in this land: By sword and by famine are these prophets consumed.
[16] And the people to whom they are prophesying, Are cast into out-places of Jerusalem, Because of the famine, and of the sword, And they have none burying them, Them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, And I have poured out upon them this evil.
[17] And thou hast said unto them this word: Tears come down mine eyes night and day, And they do not cease, For, with a great breach, Broken hath been the virgin daughter of my people, A very grievous stroke.
[18] If I have gone forth to the field, Then, lo, the pierced of the sword! And if I have entered the city, Then, lo, the diseased of famine! For both prophet and priest have gone up and down Unto a land that they knew not.
[19] Hast Thou utterly rejected Judah? Zion hath Thy soul loathed? Wherefore hast Thou smitten us, And there is no healing to us? Looking for peace, and there is no good, And for a time of healing, and lo, terror.
[20] We have known, O Jehovah, our wickedness, The iniquity of our fathers, For we have sinned against Thee.
[21] Do not despise, for Thy name’s sake, Dishonour not the throne of Thine honour, Remember, break not Thy covenant with us.
[22] Are there among the vanities of the nations any causing rain? And do the heavens give showers? Art not Thou He, O Jehovah our God? And we wait for thee, for Thou-Thou hast done all these!
