Isaiah said to them, “Tell your master this: ‘Yahweh says, “Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

When he heard it said of Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, “Behold, he has come out to fight against you,” he sent messengers again to Hezekiah, saying,

“Tell Hezekiah king of Judah this: ‘Don’t let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

μη επαιρετω σε ο θεος σου εφ ω συ πεποιθας επ αυτω λεγων ου μη παραδοθη ιερουσαλημ εις χειρας βασιλεως ασσυριων

Hezekiah prayed before Yahweh, and said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, who are enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth.

Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, says ‘You have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, and I have heard you.

By your messengers, you have defied the Lord, and have said, “With the multitude of my chariots, I have come up to the height of the mountains, to the innermost parts of Lebanon, and I will cut down its tall cedars and its choice cypress trees; and I will enter into his farthest lodging place, the forest of his fruitful field.

εν χειρι αγγελων σου ωνειδισας κυριον και ειπας εν τω πληθει των αρματων μου εγω αναβησομαι εις υψος ορεων μηρους του λιβανου και εκοψα το μεγεθος της κεδρου αυτου τα εκλεκτα κυπαρισσων αυτου και ηλθον εις μελον τελους αυτου δρυμου καρμηλου αυτου

“Therefore Yahweh says concerning the king of Assyria, ‘He will not come to this city, nor shoot an arrow there. He will not come before it with shield, nor cast up a mound against it.

In those days Hezekiah was sick and dying. Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, “Yahweh says, ‘Set your house in order; for you will die, and not live.’ ”

εν ταις ημεραις εκειναις ηρρωστησεν εζεκιας εις θανατον και εισηλθεν προς αυτον ησαιας υιος αμως ο προφητης και ειπεν προς αυτον ταδε λεγει κυριος εντειλαι τω οικω σου οτι αποθνησκεις συ και ου ζηση

Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed to Yahweh, saying,

“Turn back, and tell Hezekiah the prince of my people, ‘Yahweh, the God of David your father, says, “I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. Behold, I will heal you. On the third day, you will go up to Yahweh’s house.

Isaiah said, “Take a cake of figs.” They took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered.

και ειπεν λαβετωσαν παλαθην συκων και επιθετωσαν επι το ελκος και υγιασει

Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “What will be the sign that Yahweh will heal me, and that I will go up to Yahweh’s house the third day?”

And Hezekiah H2396 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Isaiah, H3470 What shall be the sign H226 that the Lord H3068 will heal H7495 (QalImpf) me, and that I shall go up H5927 (QalPerf) into the house H1004 of the Lord H3068 the third H7992 day? H3117

και ειπεν εζεκιας προς ησαιαν τι το σημειον οτι ιασεται με κυριος και αναβησομαι εις οικον κυριου τη ημερα τη τριτη

Isaiah said, “This will be the sign to you from Yahweh, that Yahweh will do the thing that he has spoken: should the shadow go forward ten steps, or go back ten steps?”

και ειπεν ησαιας τουτο το σημειον παρα κυριου οτι ποιησει κυριος τον λογον ον ελαλησεν πορευσεται η σκια δεκα βαθμους εαν επιστρεφη δεκα βαθμους

Hezekiah answered, “It is a light thing for the shadow to go forward ten steps. No, but let the shadow return backward ten steps.”

και ειπεν εζεκιας κουφον την σκιαν κλιναι δεκα βαθμους ουχι αλλ επιστραφητω η σκια δεκα βαθμους εις τα οπισω

Then Isaiah the prophet came to King Hezekiah, and said to him, “What did these men say? From where did they come to you?” Hezekiah said, “They have come from a far country, even from Babylon.”

Then came H935 (QalImpf) Isaiah H3470 the prophet H5030 unto king H4428 Hezekiah, H2396 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, What said H559 (QalPerf) these men? He said, “What have they seen in your house?” Hezekiah answered, “They have seen all that is in my house. There is nothing among my treasures that I have not shown them.”

Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear Yahweh’s word.

και ειπεν ησαιας προς εζεκιαν ακουσον λογον κυριου

‘Behold, the days come that all that is in your house, and that which your fathers have laid up in store to this day, will be carried to Babylon. Nothing will be left,’ says Yahweh.

Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “Yahweh’s word which you have spoken is good.” He said moreover, “Isn’t it so, if peace and truth will be in my days?”

He built altars in Yahweh’s house, of which Yahweh said, “I will put my name in Jerusalem.”

και ωκοδομησεν θυσιαστηριον εν οικω κυριου ως ειπεν εν ιερουσαλημ θησω το ονομα μου

He set the engraved image of Asherah that he had made in the house of which Yahweh said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name forever;

Yahweh spoke by his servants the prophets, saying,

therefore Yahweh the God of Israel says, ‘Behold, I will bring such evil on Jerusalem and Judah that whoever hears of it, both his ears will tingle.

In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to Yahweh’s house, saying,

Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in Yahweh’s house.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

And Hilkiah H2518 the high H1419 priest H3548 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Shaphan H8227 the scribe, H5608 (QalActPtc) I have found H4672 (QalPerf) the book H5612 of the law H8451 in the house H1004 of the Lord. H3068 And Hilkiah H2518 gave H5414 (QalImpf) the book H5612 to Shaphan, H8227 and he read H7121 (QalImpf) it.

και ειπεν χελκιας ο ιερευς ο μεγας προς σαφφαν τον γραμματεα βιβλιον του νομου ευρον εν οικω κυριου και εδωκεν χελκιας το βιβλιον προς σαφφαν και ανεγνω αυτο

Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hands of the workmen who have the oversight of Yahweh’s house.”

And Shaphan H8227 the scribe H5608 (QalActPtc) came H935 (QalImpf) to the king, H4428 and brought H7725 the king H4428 word H1697 again, H7725 (HiphImpf) and said, H559 (QalImpf) Thy servants H5650 have gathered^§ H5413 (HiphPerf) the money H3701 that was found H4672 (NiphPtc) in the house, H1004 and have delivered H5414 (QalImpf) it into the hand H3027 of them that do H6213 (QalActPtc) the work, H4399 that have the oversight H6485 (HophPtc) of the house H1004 of the Lord. Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Then Shaphan read it before the king.

The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Micaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

και ενετειλατο ο βασιλευς τω χελκια τω ιερει και τω αχικαμ υιω σαφφαν και τω αχοβωρ υιω μιχαιου και τω σαφφαν τω γραμματει και τω ασαια δουλω του βασιλεως λεγων

She said to them, “Yahweh the God of Israel says, ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,

And she said H559 (QalImpf) unto them, Thus saith H559 (QalPerf) the Lord H3068 God H430 of Israel, H3478 Tell H559 (QalImpv) the man H376 that sent H7971 (QalPerf) you to me,

“Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.

Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother named him Jabez,° saying, “Because I bore him with sorrow.”
