He called the name of that place Bethel, but the name of the city was Luz at the first.

Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him “Bethel”.

The house of Joseph also went up against Bethel, and Yahweh was with them.

και ιδου ανθρωπος του θεου εξ ιουδα παρεγενετο εν λογω κυριου εις βαιθηλ και ιεροβοαμ ειστηκει επι το θυσιαστηριον του επιθυσαι

When the king heard the saying of the man of God, which he cried against the altar in Bethel, Jeroboam put out his hand from the altar, saying, “Seize him!” His hand, which he put out against him, dried up, so that he could not draw it back again to himself.

And it came to pass, when king H4428 Jeroboam H3379 heard H8085 (QalInf) the saying H1697 of the man H376 of God, H430 which had cried H7121 (QalPerf) against the altar H4196 in Beth-el, H1008 that he put forth H7971 (QalImpf) his hand H3027 from the altar, H4196 saying, H559 (QalInf) Lay hold H8610 (QalImpv) on him. And his hand, H3027 which he put forth H7971 (QalPerf) against him, dried up, H3001 (QalImpf) so that he could H3201 (QalPerf) not pull it in again H7725 (HiphInf) to him.

και εγενετο ως ηκουσεν ο βασιλευς ιεροβοαμ των λογων του ανθρωπου του θεου του επικαλεσαμενου επι το θυσιαστηριον το εν βαιθηλ και εξετεινεν ο βασιλευς την χειρα αυτου απο του θυσιαστηριου λεγων συλλαβετε αυτον και ιδου εξηρανθη η χειρ αυτου ην εξετεινεν επ αυτον και ουκ ηδυνηθη επιστρεψαι αυτην προς εαυτον

So he went another way, and didn’t return by the way that he came to Bethel.

So he went H3212 (QalImpf) another H312 way, H1870 and returned H7725 (QalPerf) not by the way H1870 that he came H935 (QalPerf) to Beth-el. H1008

και απηλθεν εν οδω αλλη και ουκ ανεστρεψεν εν τη οδω η ηλθεν εν αυτη εις βαιθηλ

Now an old prophet lived in Bethel, and one of his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel. They also told their father the words which he had spoken to the king.

Now there dwelt H3427 (QalActPtc) an H259 old H2205 prophet H5030 in Beth-el; H1008 and his sons H1121 came H935 (QalImpf) and told H5608 (PielImpf) him all the works H4639 that the man H376 of God H430 had done H6213 (QalPerf) that day H3117 in Beth-el: H1008 the words H1697 which he had spoken H1696 (PielPerf) unto the king, H4428 them they told H5608 (PielImpf) also to their father. και προφητης εις πρεσβυτης κατωκει εν βαιθηλ και ερχονται οι υιοι αυτου και διηγησαντο αυτω απαντα τα εργα α εποιησεν ο ανθρωπος του θεου εν τη ημερα εκεινη εν βαιθηλ και τους λογους ους ελαλησεν τω βασιλει και επεστρεψαν το προσωπον του πατρος αυτων

For the saying which he cried by Yahweh’s word against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, will surely happen.”

for the saying H1697 which he cried H7121 (QalPerf) by the word H1697 of the Lord H3068 against the altar H4196 in Beth-el, H1008 and against all the houses H1004 of the high places H1116 which are in the cities H5892 of Samaria, H8111 shall surely come to pass.

οτι γινομενον εσται το ρημα ο ελαλησεν εν λογω κυριου επι του θυσιαστηριου του εν βαιθηλ και επι τους οικους τους υψηλους τους εν σαμαρεια

Elijah said to Elisha, “Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me as far as Bethel.” Elisha said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

And Elijah H452 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Elisha, H477 Tarry H3427 (QalImpv) here, I pray thee; for the Lord H3068 hath sent H7971 (QalPerf) me to Beth-el. και ειπεν ηλιου προς ελισαιε καθου δη ενταυθα οτι κυριος απεσταλκεν με εως βαιθηλ και ειπεν ελισαιε ζη κυριος και ζη η ψυχη σου ει καταλειψω σε και ηλθον εις βαιθηλ

The sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from over you today?” He said, “Yes, I know it. Hold your peace.”

And the sons H1121 of the prophets H5030 that were at Beth-el H1008 came forth H3318 (QalImpf) to Elisha, H477 and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Knowest H3045 (QalPerf) thou that the Lord H3068 will take away H3947 (QalActPtc) thy master H113 from thy head H7218 to day? και ηλθον οι υιοι των προφητων οι εν βαιθηλ προς ελισαιε και ειπον προς αυτον ει εγνως οτι κυριος σημερον λαμβανει τον κυριον σου επανωθεν της κεφαλης σου και ειπεν καγω εγνωκα σιωπατε

He went up from there to Bethel. As he was going up by the way, some youths came out of the city and mocked him, and said to him, “Go up, you baldy! Go up, you baldy!”

And he went up H5927 (QalImpf) from thence unto Beth-el: H1008 and as he was going up H5927 (QalActPtc) by the way, H1870 there came forth H3318 (QalPerf) little H6996 children H5288 out of the city, H5892 and mocked H7046 (HithImpf) him, and said H559 (QalImpf) unto him, Go up, H5927 (QalImpv) thou bald head; H7142 go up, H5927 (QalImpv) thou bald head. και ανεβη εκειθεν εις βαιθηλ και αναβαινοντος αυτου εν τη οδω και παιδαρια μικρα εξηλθον εκ της πολεως και κατεπαιζον αυτου και ειπον αυτω αναβαινε φαλακρε αναβαινε

However, Jehu didn’t depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin—the golden calves that were in Bethel and that were in Dan.

Howbeit from the sins H2399 of Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Nebat, H5028 who made Israel H3478 to sin, H2398 (HiphPerf) Jehu H3058 departed H5493 (QalPerf) not from after H310 them, to wit, the golden H2091 calves H5695 that were in Beth-el, H1008 and that were in Dan. H1835

πλην αμαρτιων ιεροβοαμ υιου ναβατ ος εξημαρτεν τον ισραηλ ουκ απεστη ιου απο οπισθεν αυτων αι δαμαλεις αι χρυσαι εν βαιθηλ και εν δαν

So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear Yahweh.

Then one H259 of the priests H3548 whom they had carried away H1540 (HiphPerf) from Samaria H8111 came H935 (QalImpf) and dwelt H3427 (QalImpf) in Beth-el, H1008 and taught H3384 (HiphPtc) them how they should fear H3372 (QalImpf) the Lord. H3068

και ηγαγον ενα των ιερεων ων απωκισαν απο σαμαρειας και εκαθισεν εν βαιθηλ και ην φωτιζων αυτους πως φοβηθωσιν τον κυριον

The king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring out of Yahweh’s temple all the vessels that were made for Baal, for the Asherah, and for all the army of the sky; and he burned them outside of Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel.

And the king H4428 commanded H6680 (PielImpf) Hilkiah H2518 the high H1419 priest, H3548 and the priests H3548 of the second order, H4932 and the keepers H8104 (QalActPtc) of the door, H5592 to bring forth H3318 (HiphInf) out of the temple H1964 of the Lord H3068 all the vessels H3627 that were made H6213 (QalPasPtc) for Baal, H1168 and for the grove, H842 and for all the host H6635 of heaven: H8064 and he burned H8313 (QalImpf) them without H2351 Jerusalem H3389 in the fields H7709 of Kidron, H6939 and carried H5375 (QalPerf) the ashes H6083 of them unto Beth-el. H1008

και ενετειλατο ο βασιλευς τω χελκια τω ιερει τω μεγαλω και τοις ιερευσιν της δευτερωσεως και τοις φυλασσουσιν τον σταθμον του εξαγαγειν εκ του ναου κυριου παντα τα σκευη τα πεποιημενα τω βααλ και τω αλσει και παση τη δυναμει του ουρανου και κατεκαυσεν αυτα εξω ιερουσαλημ εν σαδημωθ κεδρων και ελαβεν τον χουν αυτων εις βαιθηλ

Moreover the altar that was at Bethel and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and beat it to dust, and burned the Asherah.

Moreover the altar H4196 that was at Beth-el, H1008 and the high place H1116 which Jeroboam H3379 the son H1121 of Nebat, H5028 who made Israel H3478 to sin, H2398 (HiphPerf) had made, H6213 (QalPerf) both that altar H4196 and the high place H1116 he brake down, H5422 (QalPerf) and burned H8313 (QalImpf) the high place, H1116 and stamped H1854 (HiphPerf) it small to powder, H6083 and burned H8313 (QalPerf) the grove. και γε το θυσιαστηριον το εν βαιθηλ το υψηλον ο εποιησεν ιεροβοαμ υιος ναβατ ος εξημαρτεν τον ισραηλ και γε το θυσιαστηριον εκεινο και το υψηλον κατεσπασεν και συνετριψεν τους λιθους αυτου και ελεπτυνεν εις χουν και κατεκαυσεν το αλσος

Then he said, “What monument is that which I see?” The men of the city told him, “It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Bethel.”

Then he said, H559 (QalImpf) What title H6725 is that H1975 that I see? H7200 (QalActPtc) And the men H582 of the city H5892 told H559 (QalImpf) him, It is the sepulchre H6913 of the man H376 of God, H430 which came H935 (QalPerf) from Judah, H3063 and proclaimed H7121 (QalImpf) these things H1697 that thou hast done H6213 (QalPerf) against the altar H4196 of Beth-el. H1008

και ειπεν τι το σκοπελον εκεινο ο εγω ορω και ειπον αυτω οι ανδρες της πολεως ο ανθρωπος του θεου εστιν ο εξεληλυθως εξ ιουδα και επικαλεσαμενος τους λογους τουτους ους επεκαλεσατο επι το θυσιαστηριον βαιθηλ
