Eighteen psalms were written in Jerusalem in the first century BC, most of them wrestling with the Roman capture of the city and asking how God could have allowed it. Solomon's name is attached by tradition and not by the text. The seventeenth is among the fullest statements of messianic hope in Jewish writing of the period.
