Judges 12 (WEBP)

[1] The men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said to Jephthah, “Why did you pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didn’t call us to go with you? We will burn your house around you with fire!”
[2] Jephthah said to them, “I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you didn’t save me out of their hand.
[3] When I saw that you didn’t save me, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Yahweh delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me today, to fight against me?”
[4] Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim. The men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, “You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the middle of Ephraim, and in the middle of Manasseh.”
[5] The Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. Whenever a fugitive of Ephraim said, “Let me go over,” the men of Gilead said to him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said, “No;”
[6] then they said to him, “Now say ‘Shibboleth;’ ” and he said “Sibboleth”; for he couldn’t manage to pronounce it correctly, then they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. At that time, forty-two thousand of Ephraim fell.
[7] Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in the cities of Gilead.
[8] After him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.
[9] He had thirty sons. He sent his thirty daughters outside his clan, and he brought in thirty daughters from outside his clan for his sons. He judged Israel seven years.
[10] Ibzan died, and was buried at Bethlehem.
[11] After him, Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
[12] Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.
[13] After him, Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.
[14] He had forty sons and thirty sons’ sons who rode on seventy donkey colts. He judged Israel eight years.
[15] Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.

Judges 12 (KJVS)

[1] And the men H376 of Ephraim H669 gathered themselves together H6817 (8735), and went H5674 (8799) northward H6828, and said H559 (8799) unto Jephthah H3316, Wherefore passedst thou over H5674 (8804) to fight H3898 (8736) against the children H1121 of Ammon H5983, and didst not call H7121 (8804) us to go H3212 (8800) with thee? we will burn H8313 (8799) thine house H1004 upon thee with fire H784.
[2] And Jephthah H3316 said H559 (8799) unto them, I and my people H5971 were H1961 (8804) at great H3966 strife H376 H7379 with the children H1121 of Ammon H5983; and when I called H2199 (8799) you, ye delivered H3467 (8689) me not out of their hands H3027.
[3] And when I saw H7200 (8799) that ye delivered H3467 (8688) [me] not, I put H7760 (8799) my life H5315 in my hands H3709, and passed over H5674 (8799) against the children H1121 of Ammon H5983, and the LORD H3068 delivered H5414 (8799) them into my hand H3027: wherefore then are ye come up H5927 (8804) unto me this day H3117, to fight H3898 (8736) against me?
[4] Then Jephthah H3316 gathered together H6908 (8799) all the men H582 of Gilead H1568, and fought H3898 (8735) with Ephraim H669: and the men H582 of Gilead H1568 smote H5221 (8686) Ephraim H669, because they said H559 (8804), Ye Gileadites H1568 [are] fugitives H6412 of Ephraim H669 among H8432 the Ephraimites H669, [and] among H8432 the Manassites H4519.
[5] And the Gileadites H1568 took H3920 (8799) the passages H4569 of Jordan H3383 before the Ephraimites H669: and it was [so], that when those Ephraimites H669 which were escaped H6412 said H559 (8799), Let me go over H5674 (8799); that the men H582 of Gilead H1568 said H559 (8799) unto him, [Art] thou an Ephraimite H673? If he said H559 (8799), Nay;
[6] Then said H559 (8799) they unto him, Say H559 (8798) now Shibboleth H7641: and he said H559 (8799) Sibboleth H5451: for he could not frame H3559 to pronounce H1696 (8763) [it] right H3559 (8686). Then they took H270 (8799) him, and slew H7819 (8799) him at the passages H4569 of Jordan H3383: and there fell H5307 (8799) at that time H6256 of the Ephraimites H669 forty H705 and two H8147 thousand H505.
[7] And Jephthah H3316 judged H8199 (8799) Israel H3478 six H8337 years H8141. Then died H4191 (8799) Jephthah H3316 the Gileadite H1569, and was buried H6912 (8735) in [one of] the cities H5892 of Gilead H1568.
[8] And after H310 him Ibzan H78 of Bethlehem H1035 judged H8199 (8799) Israel H3478.
[9] And he had thirty H7970 sons H1121, and thirty H7970 daughters H1323, [whom] he sent H7971 (8765) abroad H2351, and took H935 (8689) in thirty H7970 daughters H1323 from abroad H2351 for his sons H1121. And he judged H8199 (8799) Israel H3478 seven H7651 years H8141.
[10] Then died H4191 (8799) Ibzan H78, and was buried H6912 (8735) at Bethlehem H1035.
[11] And after H310 him Elon H356, a Zebulonite H2075, judged H8199 (8799) Israel H3478; and he judged H8199 (8799) Israel H3478 ten H6235 years H8141.
[12] And Elon H356 the Zebulonite H2075 died H4191 (8799), and was buried H6912 (8735) in Aijalon H357 in the country H776 of Zebulun H2074.
[13] And after H310 him Abdon H5658 the son H1121 of Hillel H1985, a Pirathonite H6553, judged H8199 (8799) Israel H3478.
[14] And he had forty H705 sons H1121 and thirty H7970 nephews H1121 H1121, that rode H7392 (8802) on threescore and ten H7657 ass colts H5895: and he judged H8199 (8799) Israel H3478 eight H8083 years H8141.
[15] And Abdon H5658 the son H1121 of Hillel H1985 the Pirathonite H6553 died H4191 (8799), and was buried H6912 (8735) in Pirathon H6552 in the land H776 of Ephraim H669, in the mount H2022 of the Amalekites H6003.

Judges 12 (YLT)

[1] And the men of Ephraim are called together, and pass over northward, and say to Jephthah, ‘Wherefore has thou passed over to fight against the Bene-Ammon, and on us hast not called to go with thee? thy house we burn over thee with fire.’
[2] And Jephthah saith unto them, ‘A man of great strife I have been (I and my people) with the Bene-Ammon, and I call you, and ye have not saved me out of their hand,
[3] and I see that thou art not a saviour, and I put my life in my hand, and pass over unto the Bene-Ammon, and Jehovah giveth them into my hand-and why have ye come up unto me this day to fight against me?’
[4] And Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead, and fighteth with Ephraim, and the men of Gilead smite Ephraim, because they said, ‘Fugitives of Ephraim are ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim-in the midst of Manasseh.’
[5] And Gilead captureth the passages of the Jordan to Ephraim, and it hath been, when any of the fugitives of Ephraim say, ‘Let me pass over,’ and the men of Gilead say to him, ‘An Ephramite thou?’ and he saith, ‘No;’
[6] that they say to him, ‘Say, I pray thee, Shibboleth;’ and he saith, ‘Sibboleth,’ and is not prepared to speak right-and they seize him, and slaughter him at the passages of the Jordan, and there fall at that time, of Ephraim, forty and two chiefs.
[7] And Jephthah judged Israel six years, and Jephthah the Gileadite dieth, and is buried in one of the cities of Gilead.
[8] And after him Ibzan of Beth-Lehem judgeth Israel,
[9] and he hath thirty sons and thirty daughters, he hath sent without and thirty daughters hath brought in to his sons from without; and he judgeth Israel seven years.
[10] And Ibzan dieth, and is buried in Beth-Lehem.
[11] And after him Elon the Zebulunite judgeth Israel, and he judgeth Israel ten years,
[12] and Elon the Zebulunite dieth, and is buried in Aijalon, in the land of Zebulun.

[14] and he hath forty sons, and thirty grandsons, riding on seventy ass-colts, and he judgeth Israel eight years.
[15] And Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, dieth, and is buried in Pirathon, in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekite.
