Judges 2 (WEBP)
[1] Yahweh’s angel came up from Gilgal to Bochim. He said, “I brought you out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to give your fathers. I said, ‘I will never break my covenant with you.
[2] You shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You shall break down their altars.’ But you have not listened to my voice. Why have you done this?
[3] Therefore I also said, ‘I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.’ ”
[4] When Yahweh’s angel spoke these words to all the children of Israel, the people lifted up their voice and wept.
[5] They called the name of that place Bochim,° and they sacrificed there to Yahweh.
[6] Now when Joshua had sent the people away, the children of Israel each went to his inheritance to possess the land.
[7] The people served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of Yahweh that he had worked for Israel.
[8] Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Yahweh, died, being one hundred ten years old.
[9] They buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath Heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.
[10] After all that generation were gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who didn’t know Yahweh, nor the work which he had done for Israel.
[11] The children of Israel did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and served the Baals.
[12] They abandoned Yahweh, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; and they provoked Yahweh to anger.
[13] They abandoned Yahweh, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.
[14] Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.
[15] Wherever they went out, Yahweh’s hand was against them for evil, as Yahweh had spoken, and as Yahweh had sworn to them; and they were very distressed.
[16] Yahweh raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them.
[17] Yet they didn’t listen to their judges; for they prostituted themselves to other gods, and bowed themselves down to them. They quickly turned away from the way in which their fathers walked, obeying Yahweh’s commandments. They didn’t do so.
[18] When Yahweh raised up judges for them, then Yahweh was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it grieved Yahweh because of their groaning by reason of those who oppressed them and troubled them.
[19] But when the judge was dead, they turned back, and dealt more corruptly than their fathers in following other gods to serve them and to bow down to them. They didn’t cease what they were doing, or give up their stubborn ways.
[20] Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel; and he said, “Because this nation transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not listened to my voice,
[21] I also will no longer drive out any of the nations that Joshua left when he died from before them;
[22] that by them I may test Israel, to see if they will keep Yahweh’s way to walk therein, as their fathers kept it, or not.”
[23] So Yahweh left those nations, without driving them out hastily. He didn’t deliver them into Joshua’s hand.
Judges 2:5 “Bochim” means “weepers”.

Judges 2 (KJVS)
[1] And an angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 came up H5927 (8799) from Gilgal H1537 to Bochim H1066, and said H559 (8799), I made you to go up H5927 (8686) out of Egypt H4714, and have brought H935 (8686) you unto the land H776 which I sware H7650 (8738) unto your fathers H1; and I said H559 (8799), I will never H5769 break H6565 (8686) my covenant H1285 with you.
[2] And ye shall make H3772 (8799) no league H1285 with the inhabitants H3427 (8802) of this land H776; ye shall throw down H5422 (8799) their altars H4196: but ye have not obeyed H8085 (8804) my voice H6963: why have ye done H6213 (8804) this?
[3] Wherefore I also said H559 (8804), I will not drive them out H1644 (8762) from before H6440 you; but they shall be [as thorns] in your sides H6654, and their gods H430 shall be a snare H4170 unto you.
[4] And it came to pass, when the angel H4397 of the LORD H3068 spake H1696 (8763) these words H1697 unto all the children H1121 of Israel H3478, that the people H5971 lifted up H5375 (8799) their voice H6963, and wept H1058 (8799).
[5] And they called H7121 (8799) the name H8034 of that place H4725 Bochim H1066: and they sacrificed H2076 (8799) there unto the LORD H3068.
[6] And when Joshua H3091 had let the people H5971 go H7971 (8762), the children H1121 of Israel H3478 went H3212 (8799) every man H376 unto his inheritance H5159 to possess H3423 (8800) the land H776.
[7] And the people H5971 served H5647 (8799) the LORD H3068 all the days H3117 of Joshua H3091, and all the days H3117 of the elders H2205 that outlived H748 (8689) H3117 H310 Joshua H3091, who had seen H7200 (8804) all the great H1419 works H4639 of the LORD H3068, that he did H6213 (8804) for Israel H3478.
[8] And Joshua H3091 the son H1121 of Nun H5126, the servant H5650 of the LORD H3068, died H4191 (8799), [being] an hundred H3967 and ten H6235 years H8141 old H1121.
[9] And they buried H6912 (8799) him in the border H1366 of his inheritance H5159 in Timnathheres H8556, in the mount H2022 of Ephraim H669, on the north side H6828 of the hill H2022 Gaash H1608.
[10] And also all that generation H1755 were gathered H622 (8738) unto their fathers H1: and there arose H6965 (8799) another H312 generation H1755 after H310 them, which knew H3045 (8804) not the LORD H3068, nor yet the works H4639 which he had done H6213 (8804) for Israel H3478.
[11] And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 did H6213 (8799) evil H7451 in the sight H5869 of the LORD H3068, and served H5647 (8799) Baalim H1168:
[12] And they forsook H5800 (8799) the LORD H3068 God H430 of their fathers H1, which brought them out H3318 (8688) of the land H776 of Egypt H4714, and followed H3212 (8799) H310 other H312 gods H430, of the gods H430 of the people H5971 that [were] round about H5439 them, and bowed H7812 (8691) themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD H3068 to anger H3707 (8686).
[13] And they forsook H5800 (8799) the LORD H3068, and served H5647 (8799) Baal H1168 and Ashtaroth H6252.
[14] And the anger H639 of the LORD H3068 was hot H2734 (8799) against Israel H3478, and he delivered H5414 (8799) them into the hands H3027 of spoilers H8154 (8802) that spoiled H8155 (8799) them, and he sold H4376 (8799) them into the hands H3027 of their enemies H341 (8802) round about H5439, so that they could H3201 (8804) not any longer H5750 stand H5975 (8800) before H6440 their enemies H341 (8802).
[15] Whithersoever they went out H3318 (8804), the hand H3027 of the LORD H3068 was against them for evil H7451, as the LORD H3068 had said H1696 (8765), and as the LORD H3068 had sworn H7650 (8738) unto them: and they were greatly H3966 distressed H3334 (8799).
[16] Nevertheless the LORD H3068 raised up H6965 (8686) judges H8199 (8802), which delivered H3467 (8686) them out of the hand H3027 of those that spoiled H8154 (8802) them.
[17] And yet they would not hearken H8085 (8804) unto their judges H8199 (8802), but they went a whoring H2181 (8804) after H310 other H312 gods H430, and bowed H7812 (8691) themselves unto them: they turned H5493 (8804) quickly H4118 out of the way H1870 which their fathers H1 walked in H1980 (8804), obeying H8085 (8800) the commandments H4687 of the LORD H3068; [but] they did H6213 (8804) not so.
[18] And when the LORD H3068 raised H6965 (8689) them up judges H8199 (8802), then the LORD H3068 was with the judge H8199 (8802), and delivered H3467 (8689) them out of the hand H3027 of their enemies H341 (8802) all the days H3117 of the judge H8199 (8802): for it repented H5162 (8735) the LORD H3068 because H6440 of their groanings H5009 by reason of them that oppressed H3905 (8801) them and vexed H1766 (8802) them.
[19] And it came to pass, when the judge H8199 (8802) was dead H4194, [that] they returned H7725 (8799), and corrupted H7843 (8689) [themselves] more than their fathers H1, in following H3212 (8800) H310 other H312 gods H430 to serve H5647 (8800) them, and to bow down H7812 (8692) unto them; they ceased H5307 (8689) not from their own doings H4611, nor from their stubborn H7186 way H1870.
[20] And the anger H639 of the LORD H3068 was hot H2734 (8799) against Israel H3478; and he said H559 (8799), Because that this people H1471 hath transgressed H5674 (8804) my covenant H1285 which I commanded H6680 (8765) their fathers H1, and have not hearkened H8085 (8804) unto my voice H6963;
[21] I also will not henceforth H3254 (8686) drive out H3423 (8687) any H376 from before H6440 them of the nations H1471 which Joshua H3091 left H5800 (8804) when he died H4191 (8799):
[22] That through them I may prove H5254 (8763) Israel H3478, whether they will keep H8104 (8802) the way H1870 of the LORD H3068 to walk H3212 (8800) therein, as their fathers H1 did keep H8104 (8804) [it], or not.
[23] Therefore the LORD H3068 left H3240 (8686) those nations H1471, without H1115 driving them out H3423 (8687) hastily H4118; neither delivered H5414 (8804) he them into the hand H3027 of Joshua H3091.
Young’s Literal Translation
Judges 2 (YLT)
[1] And a messenger of Jehovah goeth up from Gilgal unto Bochim,
[2] and saith, ‘I cause you to come up out of Egypt, and bring you in unto the land which I have sworn to your fathers, and say, I do not break My covenant with you to the age; and ye-ye make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land-their altars ye break down; and ye have not hearkened to My voice-what is this ye have done?
[3] And I also have said, I do not cast them out from your presence, and they have been to you for adversaries, and their gods are to you for a snare.’
[4] And it cometh to pass, when the messenger of Jehovah speaketh these words unto all the sons of Israel, that the people lift up their voice and weep,
[5] and they call the name of that place Bochim, and sacrifice there to Jehovah.
[6] And Joshua sendeth the people away, and the sons of Israel go, each to his inheritance, to possess the land;
[7] and the people serve Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Joshua, who saw all the great work of Jehovah which He did to Israel.
[8] And Joshua son of Nun, servant of Jehovah, dieth, a son of a hundred and ten years,
[9] and they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Heres, in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of mount Gaash;
[10] and also all that generation have been gathered unto their fathers, and another generation riseth after them who have not known Jehovah, and even the work which He hath done to Israel.
[11] And the sons of Israel do the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, and serve the Baalim,
[12] and forsake Jehovah, God of their fathers, who bringeth them out from the land of Egypt, and go after other gods (of the gods of the peoples who are round about them), and bow themselves to them, and provoke Jehovah,
[13] yea, they forsake Jehovah, and do service to Baal and to Ashtaroth.
[14] And the anger of Jehovah burneth against Israel, and He giveth them into the hand of spoilers, and they spoil them, and He selleth them into the hand of their enemies round about, and they have not been able any more to stand before their enemies;
[15] in every place where they have gone out, the hand of Jehovah hath been against them for evil, as Jehovah hath spoken, and as Jehovah hath sworn to them, and they are distressed-greatly.
[16] And Jehovah raiseth up judges, and they save them from the hand of their spoilers;
[17] and also unto their judges they have not hearkened, but have gone a-whoring after other gods, and bow themselves to them; they have turned aside with haste out of the way in which their fathers walked to obey the commands of Jehovah-they have not done so.
[18] And when Jehovah raised up to them judges-then was Jehovah with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it repenteth Jehovah, because of their groaning from the presence of their oppressors, and of those thrusting them away.
[19] And it hath come to pass, at the death of the judge-they turn back and have done corruptly above their fathers, to go after other gods, to serve them, and to bow themselves to them; they have not fallen from their doings, and from their stiff way.
[20] And the anger of Jehovah doth burn against Israel, and He saith, ‘Because that this nation have transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened to My voice-
[21] I also continue not to dispossess any from before them of the nations which Joshua hath left when he dieth,
[22] in order to try Israel by them, whether they are keeping the way of Jehovah, to go in it, as their fathers kept it or not.’
[23] And Jehovah leaveth these nations, so as not to dispossess them hastily, and did not give them into the hand of Joshua.
