Malachi 1 (WEBP)
[1] A revelation, Yahweh’s° word to Israel by Malachi.
[2] “I have loved you,” says Yahweh. Yet you say, “How have you loved us?” “Wasn’t Esau Jacob’s brother?” says Yahweh, “Yet I loved Jacob;
[3] but Esau I hated, and made his mountains a desolation, and gave his heritage to the jackals of the wilderness.”
[4] Whereas Edom says, “We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places,” Yahweh of Armies says, “They shall build, but I will throw down; and men will call them ‘The Wicked Land,’ even the people against whom Yahweh shows wrath forever.”
[5] Your eyes will see, and you will say, “Yahweh is great—even beyond the border of Israel!”
[6] “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says Yahweh of Armies to you priests who despise my name. “You say, ‘How have we despised your name?’
[7] You offer polluted bread on my altar. You say, ‘How have we polluted you?’ In that you say, ‘Yahweh’s table is contemptible.’
[8] When you offer the blind for sacrifice, isn’t that evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, isn’t that evil? Present it now to your governor! Will he be pleased with you? Or will he accept your person?” says Yahweh of Armies.
[9] “Now, please entreat the favor of God,§ that he may be gracious to us. With this, will he accept any of you?” says Yahweh of Armies.
[10] “Oh that there were one among you who would shut the doors, that you might not kindle fire on my altar in vain! I have no pleasure in you,” says Yahweh of Armies, “neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
[11] For from the rising of the sun even to its going down, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering; for my name is great among the nations,” says Yahweh of Armies.
[12] “But you profane it when you say, ‘Yahweh’s table is polluted, and its fruit, even its food, is contemptible.’
[13] You say also, ‘Behold,§ what a weariness it is!’ And you have sniffed at it”, says Yahweh of Armies; “and you have brought that which was taken by violence, the lame, and the sick; thus you bring the offering. Should I accept this at your hand?” says Yahweh.
[14] “But the deceiver is cursed who has in his flock a male, and vows and sacrifices to the Lord§ a defective thing; for I am a great King,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and my name is awesome among the nations.”
Malachi 1:1 “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations.
Malachi 1:9 The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “אֱלֹהִ֑ים” (Elohim).
Malachi 1:13 “Behold”, from “הִנֵּה”, means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection.
Malachi 1:14 The word translated “Lord” is “Adonai.”

Malachi 1 (KJVS)
[1] The burden H4853 of the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 to Israel H3478 by H3027 Malachi H4401.
[2] I have loved H157 (8804) you, saith H5002 (8803) the LORD H3068. Yet ye say H559 (8804), Wherein hast thou loved H157 (8804) us? [Was] not Esau H6215 Jacob’s H3290 brother H251? saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068: yet I loved H157 (8799) Jacob H3290,
[3] And I hated H8130 (8804) Esau H6215, and laid H7760 (8799) his mountains H2022 and his heritage H5159 waste H8077 for the dragons H8568 of the wilderness H4057.
[4] Whereas Edom H123 saith H559 (8799), We are impoverished H7567 (8795), but we will return H7725 (8799) and build H1129 (8799) the desolate places H2723; thus saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635, They shall build H1129 (8799), but I will throw down H2040 (8799); and they shall call H7121 (8804) them, The border H1366 of wickedness H7564, and, The people H5971 against whom the LORD H3068 hath indignation H2194 (8804) for H5704 ever H5769.
[5] And your eyes H5869 shall see H7200 (8799), and ye shall say H559 (8799), The LORD H3068 will be magnified H1431 (8799) from the border H1366 of Israel H3478.
[6] A son H1121 honoureth H3513 (8762) [his] father H1, and a servant H5650 his master H113: if then I [be] a father H1, where [is] mine honour H3519? and if I [be] a master H113, where [is] my fear H4172? saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635 unto you, O priests H3548, that despise H959 (8802) my name H8034. And ye say H559 (8804), Wherein have we despised H959 (8804) thy name H8034?
[7] Ye offer H5066 (8688) polluted H1351 (8794) bread H3899 upon mine altar H4196; and ye say H559 (8804), Wherein have we polluted H1351 (8765) thee? In that ye say H559 (8800), The table H7979 of the LORD H3068 [is] contemptible H959 (8737).
[8] And if ye offer H5066 (8686) the blind H5787 for sacrifice H2076 (8800), [is it] not evil H7451? and if ye offer H5066 (8686) the lame H6455 and sick H2470 (8802), [is it] not evil H7451? offer H7126 (8685) it now unto thy governor H6346; will he be pleased H7521 (8799) with thee, or accept H5375 (8799) thy person H6440? saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635.
[9] And now, I pray you, beseech H2470 (8761) H6440 God H410 that he will be gracious H2603 (8799) unto us: this hath been by your means H3027: will he regard H5375 (8799) your persons H6440? saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635.
[10] Who [is there] even among you that would shut H5462 (8799) the doors H1817 [for nought]? neither do ye kindle H215 (8686) [fire] on mine altar H4196 for nought H2600. I have no pleasure H2656 in you, saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635, neither will I accept H7521 (8799) an offering H4503 at your hand H3027.
[11] For from the rising H4217 of the sun H8121 even unto the going down H3996 of the same my name H8034 [shall be] great H1419 among the Gentiles H1471; and in every place H4725 incense H6999 (8716) [shall be] offered H5066 (8716) unto my name H8034, and a pure H2889 offering H4503: for my name H8034 [shall be] great H1419 among the heathen H1471, saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635.
[12] But ye have profaned H2490 (8764) it, in that ye say H559 (8800), The table H7979 of the LORD H3068 [is] polluted H1351 (8794); and the fruit H5108 thereof, [even] his meat H400, [is] contemptible H959 (8737).
[13] Ye said H559 (8804) also, Behold, what a weariness H4972 [is it]! and ye have snuffed H5301 (8689) at it, saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635; and ye brought H935 (8689) [that which was] torn H1497 (8803), and the lame H6455, and the sick H2470 (8802); thus ye brought H935 (8689) an offering H4503: should I accept H7521 (8799) this of your hand H3027? saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068.
[14] But cursed H779 (8803) [be] the deceiver H5230 (8802), which H3426 hath in his flock H5739 a male H2145, and voweth H5087 (8802), and sacrificeth H2076 (8802) unto the Lord H136 a corrupt thing H7843 (8716): for I [am] a great H1419 King H4428, saith H559 (8804) the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635, and my name H8034 [is] dreadful H3372 (8737) among the heathen H1471.
Young’s Literal Translation
Malachi 1 (YLT)
[1] The burden of a word of Jehovah unto Israel by the hand of Malachi:
[2] I have loved you, said Jehovah, And ye have said, ‘In what hast Thou loved us?’
[3] Is not Esau Jacob’s brother?-an affirmation of Jehovah, And I love Jacob, and Esau I have hated, And I make his mountains a desolation, And his inheritance for dragons of a wilderness.
[4] Because Edom saith, ‘We have been made poor, And we turn back and we build the wastes,’ Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: They do build, and I do destroy, And men have called to them, ‘O region of wickedness,’ ‘O people whom Jehovah defied to the age.’
[5] And your eyes do see, and ye say, ‘Magnified is Jehovah beyond the border of Israel,
[6] A son honoureth a father, and a servant his master. And if I am a father, where is Mine honour? And if I am a master, where is My fear? Said Jehovah of Hosts to you, O priests, despising My name! And ye have said: ‘In what have we despised Thy name?’
[7] Ye are bringing nigh on Mine altar polluted bread, And ye have said: ‘In what have we polluted Thee?’ In your saying: ‘The table of Jehovah-it is despicable,’
[8] And when ye bring nigh the blind for sacrifice, ‘There is no evil,’ And when ye bring nigh the lame and sick, ‘There is no evil;’ Bring it near, I pray thee, to thy governor- Doth he accept thee? or doth he lift up thy face? Said Jehovah of Hosts.
[9] And now, appease, I pray thee, the face of God, And He doth favour us; From your own hand hath this been, Doth He accept of you appearances? Said Jehovah of Hosts.
[10] Who is even among you, And he shutteth the two-leaved doors? Yea, ye do not kindle Mine altar for nought, I have no pleasure in you, said Jehovah of Hosts, And a present I do not accept of your hand.
[11] For, from the rising of the sun to its going in, Great is My name among nations, And in every place perfume is brought nigh to My name, and a pure present, For great is My name among nations, Said Jehovah of Hosts.
[12] And ye are polluting it in your saying, ‘The table of Jehovah-it is polluted, As to its fruit-despicable is its food.’
[13] And ye have said, ‘Lo, what a weariness,’ And ye have puffed at it, said Jehovah of Hosts, And ye have brought in plunder, And the lame and the sick, And ye have brought in the present! Do I accept it from your hand? said Jehovah.
[14] And cursed is a deceiver, who hath in his drove a male, And is vowing, and is sacrificing a marred thing to the Lord, For a great king am I, said Jehovah of Hosts, And My name is revered among nations!
