Why then do you harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? When he had worked wonderfully among them, didn’t they let the people go, and they departed?

και ινα τι βαρυνετε τας καρδιας υμων ως εβαρυνεν αιγυπτος και φαραω την καρδιαν αυτων ουχι οτε ενεπαιξεν αυτοις εξαπεστειλαν αυτους και απηλθον

and take Yahweh’s ark and lay it on the cart. Put the jewels of gold, which you return him for a trespass offering, in a box by its side; and send it away, that it may go.

και λημψεσθε την κιβωτον και θησετε αυτην επι την αμαξαν και τα σκευη τα χρυσα αποδωσετε αυτη της βασανου και θησετε εν θεματι βερσεχθαν εκ μερους αυτης και εξαποστελειτε αυτην και απελασατε αυτην και απελευσεται

They sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath Jearim, saying, “The Philistines have brought back Yahweh’s ark. Come down and bring it up to yourselves.”

“Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince over my people Israel. He will save my people out of the hand of the Philistines; for I have looked upon my people, because their cry has come to me.”

ως ο καιρος αυριον αποστελω προς σε ανδρα εκ γης βενιαμιν και χρισεις αυτον εις αρχοντα επι τον λαον μου ισραηλ και σωσει τον λαον μου εκ χειρος αλλοφυλων οτι επεβλεψα επι την ταπεινωσιν του λαου μου οτι ηλθεν βοη αυτων προς με

Samuel answered Saul and said, “I am the seer. Go up before me to the high place, for you are to eat with me today. In the morning I will let you go and will tell you all that is in your heart.

και απεκριθη σαμουηλ τω σαουλ και ειπεν εγω ειμι αυτος αναβηθι εμπροσθεν μου εις βαμα και φαγε μετ εμου σημερον και εξαποστελω σε πρωι και παντα τα εν τη καρδια σου απαγγελω σοι

They arose early; and about daybreak, Samuel called to Saul on the housetop, saying, “Get up, that I may send you away.” Saul arose, and they both went outside, he and Samuel, together.

Then Samuel told the people the regulations of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book and laid it up before Yahweh. Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

και λεγουσιν αυτω οι ανδρες ιαβις ανες ημιν επτα ημερας και αποστελουμεν αγγελους εις παν οριον ισραηλ εαν μη η ο σωζων ημας εξελευσομεθα προς υμας

He took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces, then sent them throughout all the borders of Israel by the hand of messengers, saying, “Whoever doesn’t come out after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done to his oxen.” The dread of Yahweh fell on the people, and they came out as one man.

Saul chose for himself three thousand men of Israel, of which two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in the Mount of Bethel, and one thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin. He sent the rest of the people to their own tents.

Samuel said to Saul, “Yahweh sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of Yahweh’s words.

και ειπεν σαμουηλ προς σαουλ εμε απεστειλεν κυριος χρισαι σε εις βασιλεα επι ισραηλ και νυν ακουε της φωνης κυριου

and Yahweh sent you on a journey, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’

Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed Yahweh’s voice, and have gone the way which Yahweh sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

And Saul H7586 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Samuel, H8050 Yea, I have obeyed H8085 (QalPerf) the voice H6963 of the Lord, H3068 and have gone H3212 (QalImpf) the way H1870 which the Lord H3068 sent H7971 (QalPerf) me, and have brought H935 (HiphImpf) Agag H90 the king H4428 of Amalek, H6002 and have utterly destroyed H2763 (HiphPerf) the Amalekites. και ειπεν σαουλ προς σαμουηλ δια το ακουσαι με της φωνης του λαου και επορευθην εν τη οδω η απεστειλεν με κυριος και ηγαγον τον αγαγ βασιλεα αμαληκ και τον αμαληκ εξωλεθρευσα

Yahweh said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided a king for myself among his sons.”

And the Lord H3068 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Samuel, H8050 How long wilt thou mourn H56 (HithPtc) for Saul, H7586 seeing I have rejected H3988 (QalPerf) him from reigning H4427 (QalInf) over Israel? Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all your children here?” He said, “There remains yet the youngest. Behold, he is keeping the sheep.” Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and get him, for we will not sit down until he comes here.”

He sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with a handsome face and good appearance. Yahweh said, “Arise! Anoint him, for this is he.”

Therefore Saul sent messengers to Jesse, and said, “Send me David your son, who is with the sheep.”

Jesse took a donkey loaded with bread, a container of wine, and a young goat, and sent them by David his son to Saul.

And Jesse H3448 took H3947 (QalImpf) an ass H2543 [laden] with bread, H3899 and a bottle H4997 of wine, H3196 and a H259 kid, H1423 H5795 and sent H7971 (QalImpf) [them] by H3027 David H1732 his son H1121 unto Saul. H7586

και ελαβεν ιεσσαι γομορ αρτων και ασκον οινου και εριφον αιγων ενα και εξαπεστειλεν εν χειρι δαυιδ του υιου αυτου προς σαουλ

Saul sent to Jesse, saying, “Please let David stand before me, for he has found favor in my sight.”

David put his hand in his bag, took a stone and slung it, and struck the Philistine in his forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on his face to the earth.

και εξετεινεν δαυιδ την χειρα αυτου εις το καδιον και ελαβεν εκειθεν λιθον ενα και εσφενδονησεν και επαταξεν τον αλλοφυλον επι το μετωπον αυτου και διεδυ ο λιθος δια της περικεφαλαιας εις το μετωπον αυτου και επεσεν επι προσωπον αυτου επι την γην

David went out wherever Saul sent him, and behaved himself wisely; and Saul set him over the men of war. It was good in the sight of all the people, and also in the sight of Saul’s servants.

Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him and to kill him in the morning. Michal, David’s wife, told him, saying, “If you don’t save your life tonight, tomorrow you will be killed.”

Saul H7586 also sent H7971 (QalImpf) messengers H4397 unto David’s H1732 house, H1004 to watch H8104 (QalInf) him, and to slay H4191 (HiphInf) him in the morning: H1242 and Michal H4324 David’s H1732 wife H802 told H5046 (HiphImpf) him, saying, H559 (QalInf) If thou save H4422 (PielPtc) not thy life H5315 to night, H3915 to morrow H4279 thou shalt be slain. και εγενηθη εν τη νυκτι εκεινη και απεστειλεν σαουλ αγγελους εις οικον δαυιδ φυλαξαι αυτον του θανατωσαι αυτον πρωι και απηγγειλεν τω δαυιδ μελχολ η γυνη αυτου λεγουσα εαν μη συ σωσης την ψυχην σαυτου την νυκτα ταυτην αυριον θανατωθηση

When Saul sent messengers to take David, she said, “He is sick.”

And when Saul H7586 sent H7971 (QalImpf) messengers H4397 to take H3947 (QalInf) David, H1732 she said, H559 (QalImpf) He [is] sick. H2470 (QalActPtc)

και απεστειλεν σαουλ αγγελους λαβειν τον δαυιδ και λεγουσιν ενοχλεισθαι αυτον

Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.”

And Saul H7586 sent H7971 (QalImpf) the messengers H4397 [again] to see H7200 (QalInf) David, H1732 saying, H559 (QalInf) Bring him up H5927 (HiphImpv) to me in the bed, H4296 that I may slay H4191 (HiphInf) him.

και αποστελλει επι τον δαυιδ λεγων αγαγετε αυτον επι της κλινης προς με του θανατωσαι αυτον

Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me like this and let my enemy go, so that he has escaped?” Michal answered Saul, “He said to me, ‘Let me go! Why should I kill you?’ ”

And Saul H7586 said H559 (QalImpf) unto Michal, H4324 Why hast thou deceived me so, H7411 (PielPerf) and sent away H7971 (PielImpf) mine enemy, H341 (QalActPtc) that he is escaped? και ειπεν σαουλ τη μελχολ ινα τι ουτως παρελογισω με και εξαπεστειλας τον εχθρον μου και διεσωθη και ειπεν μελχολ τω σαουλ αυτος ειπεν εξαποστειλον με ει δε μη θανατωσω σε

Saul sent messengers to seize David; and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them, God’s Spirit came on Saul’s messengers, and they also prophesied.

And Saul H7586 sent H7971 (QalImpf) messengers H4397 to take H3947 (QalInf) David: H1732 and when they saw H7200 (QalImpf) the company H3862 of the prophets H5030 prophesying, H5012 (NiphPtc) and Samuel H8050 standing H5975 (QalActPtc) [as] appointed H5324 (NiphPtc) over them, the Spirit H7307 of God H430 was upon the messengers H4397 of Saul, H7586 and they also prophesied. και απεστειλεν σαουλ αγγελους λαβειν τον δαυιδ και ειδαν την εκκλησιαν των προφητων και σαμουηλ ειστηκει καθεστηκως επ αυτων και εγενηθη επι τους αγγελους του σαουλ πνευμα θεου και προφητευουσιν

When Saul was told, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied.

The king said to the guard who stood about him, “Turn and kill the priests of Yahweh, because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled and didn’t disclose it to me.” But the servants of the king wouldn’t put out their hand to fall on the priests of Yahweh.

He said to his men, “Yahweh forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, Yahweh’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is Yahweh’s anointed.”

Please don’t let my lord pay attention to this worthless fellow, Nabal, for as his name is, so is he. Nabal° is his name, and folly is with him; but I, your servant, didn’t see my lord’s young men whom you sent.

When David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, “Blessed is Yahweh, who has pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and has kept back his servant from evil. Yahweh has returned the evildoing of Nabal on his own head.” David sent and spoke concerning Abigail, to take her to himself as wife.

And when David H1732 heard H8085 (QalImpf) that Nabal H5037 was dead, H4191 (QalPerf) he said, H559 (QalImpf) Blessed H1288 (QalPasPtc) [be] the Lord, H3068 that hath pleaded H7378 (QalPerf) the cause H7379 of my reproach H2781 from the hand H3027 of Nabal, H5037 and hath kept H2820 (QalPerf) his servant H5650 from evil: H7451 for the Lord H3068 hath returned H7725 (HiphPerf) the wickedness H7451 of Nabal H5037 upon his own head.
