1 Samuel 22 (WEBP)
[1] David therefore departed from there and escaped to Adullam’s cave. When his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down there to him.
[2] Everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered themselves to him; and he became captain over them. There were with him about four hundred men.
[3] David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and my mother come out to you, until I know what God will do for me.”
[4] He brought them before the king of Moab; and they lived with him all the time that David was in the stronghold.
[5] The prophet Gad said to David, “Don’t stay in the stronghold. Depart, and go into the land of Judah.” Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hereth.
[6] Saul heard that David was discovered, with the men who were with him. Now Saul was sitting in Gibeah, under the tamarisk tree in Ramah, with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing around him.
[7] Saul said to his servants who stood around him, “Hear now, you Benjamites! Will the son of Jesse give everyone of you fields and vineyards? Will he make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds?
[8] Is that why all of you have conspired against me, and there is no one who discloses to me when my son makes a treaty with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you who is sorry for me, or discloses to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as it is today?”
[9] Then Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, answered and said, “I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.
[10] He inquired of Yahweh for him, gave him food, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”
[11] Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests who were in Nob; and they all came to the king.
[12] Saul said, “Hear now, you son of Ahitub.” He answered, “Here I am, my lord.”
[13] Saul said to him, “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread, and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as it is today?”
[14] Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, “Who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, captain of your body guard, and honored in your house?
[15] Have I today begun to inquire of God for him? Be it far from me! Don’t let the king impute anything to his servant, nor to all the house of my father; for your servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.”
[16] The king said, “You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you and all your father’s house.”
[17] The king said to the guard who stood about him, “Turn and kill the priests of Yahweh, because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled and didn’t disclose it to me.” But the servants of the king wouldn’t put out their hand to fall on the priests of Yahweh.
[18] The king said to Doeg, “Turn and attack the priests!” Doeg the Edomite turned, and he attacked the priests, and he killed on that day eighty-five people who wore a linen ephod.
[19] He struck Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the sword—both men and women, children and nursing babies, and cattle, donkeys, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.
[20] One of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped and fled after David.
[21] Abiathar told David that Saul had slain Yahweh’s priests.
[22] David said to Abiathar, “I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul. I am responsible for the death of all the persons of your father’s house.
[23] Stay with me. Don’t be afraid, for he who seeks my life seeks your life. You will be safe with me.”

1 Samuel 22 (KJVS)
[1] David H1732 therefore departed H3212 (8799) thence, and escaped H4422 (8735) to the cave H4631 Adullam H5725: and when his brethren H251 and all his father’s H1 house H1004 heard H8085 (8799) [it], they went down H3381 (8799) thither to him.
[2] And every one H376 [that was] in distress H4689, and every one H376 that [was] in debt H5378 (8801), and every one H376 [that was] discontented H4751 H5315, gathered H6908 (8691) themselves unto him; and he became a captain H8269 over them: and there were with him about four H702 hundred H3967 men H376.
[3] And David H1732 went H3212 (8799) thence to Mizpeh H4708 of Moab H4124: and he said H559 (8799) unto the king H4428 of Moab H4124, Let my father H1 and my mother H517, I pray thee, come forth H3318 (8799), [and be] with you, till I know H3045 (8799) what God H430 will do H6213 (8799) for me.
[4] And he brought H5148 (8686) them before H6440 the king H4428 of Moab H4124: and they dwelt H3427 (8799) with him all the while H3117 that David H1732 was in the hold H4686.
[5] And the prophet H5030 Gad H1410 said H559 (8799) unto David H1732, Abide H3427 (8799) not in the hold H4686; depart H3212 (8798), and get H935 (8804) thee into the land H776 of Judah H3063. Then David H1732 departed H3212 (8799), and came H935 (8799) into the forest H3293 of Hareth H2802.
[6] When Saul H7586 heard H8085 (8799) that David H1732 was discovered H3045 (8738), and the men H582 that [were] with him, (now Saul H7586 abode H3427 (8802) in Gibeah H1390 under a tree H815 in Ramah H7414, having his spear H2595 in his hand H3027, and all his servants H5650 [were] standing H5324 (8737) about him;)
[7] Then Saul H7586 said H559 (8799) unto his servants H5650 that stood H5324 (8737) about him, Hear now H8085 (8798), ye Benjamites H1145; will the son H1121 of Jesse H3448 give H5414 (8799) every one of you fields H7704 and vineyards H3754, [and] make H7760 (8799) you all captains H8269 of thousands H505, and captains H8269 of hundreds H3967;
[8] That all of you have conspired H7194 (8804) against me, and [there is] none that sheweth H1540 (8802) H241 me that my son H1121 hath made a league H3772 (8800) with the son H1121 of Jesse H3448, and [there is] none of you that is sorry H2470 (8802) for me, or sheweth H1540 (8802) H241 unto me that my son H1121 hath stirred up H6965 (8689) my servant H5650 against me, to lie in wait H693 (8802), as at this day H3117?
[9] Then answered H6030 (8799) Doeg H1673 the Edomite H130, which was set H5324 (8737) over the servants H5650 of Saul H7586, and said H559 (8799), I saw H7200 (8804) the son H1121 of Jesse H3448 coming H935 (8802) to Nob H5011, to Ahimelech H288 the son H1121 of Ahitub H285.
[10] And he enquired H7592 (8799) of the LORD H3068 for him, and gave H5414 (8804) him victuals H6720, and gave H5414 (8804) him the sword H2719 of Goliath H1555 the Philistine H6430.
[11] Then the king H4428 sent H7971 (8799) to call H7121 (8800) Ahimelech H288 the priest H3548, the son H1121 of Ahitub H285, and all his father’s H1 house H1004, the priests H3548 that [were] in Nob H5011: and they came H935 (8799) all of them to the king H4428.
[12] And Saul H7586 said H559 (8799), Hear H8085 (8798) now, thou son H1121 of Ahitub H285. And he answered H559 (8799), Here I [am], my lord H113.
[13] And Saul H7586 said H559 (8799) unto him, Why have ye conspired H7194 (8804) against me, thou and the son H1121 of Jesse H3448, in that thou hast given H5414 (8800) him bread H3899, and a sword H2719, and hast enquired H7592 (8800) of God H430 for him, that he should rise H6965 (8800) against me, to lie in wait H693 (8802), as at this day H3117?
[14] Then Ahimelech H288 answered H6030 (8799) the king H4428, and said H559 (8799), And who [is so] faithful H539 (8737) among all thy servants H5650 as David H1732, which is the king’s H4428 son in law H2860, and goeth H5493 (8804) at thy bidding H4928, and is honourable H3513 (8737) in thine house H1004?
[15] Did I then H3117 begin H2490 (8689) to enquire H7592 (8800) of God H430 for him? be it far from me H2486: let not the king H4428 impute H7760 (8799) [any] thing H1697 unto his servant H5650, [nor] to all the house H1004 of my father H1: for thy servant H5650 knew H3045 (8804) nothing H1697 of all this, less H6996 or more H1419.
[16] And the king H4428 said H559 (8799), Thou shalt surely H4191 (8800) die H4191 (8799), Ahimelech H288, thou, and all thy father’s H1 house H1004.
[17] And the king H4428 said H559 (8799) unto the footmen H7323 (8801) that stood H5324 (8737) about him, Turn H5437 (8798), and slay H4191 (8685) the priests H3548 of the LORD H3068; because their hand H3027 also [is] with David H1732, and because they knew H3045 (8804) when he fled H1272 (8802), and did not shew H1540 (8804) H241 it to me. But the servants H5650 of the king H4428 would H14 (8804) not put forth H7971 (8800) their hand H3027 to fall H6293 (8800) upon the priests H3548 of the LORD H3068.
[18] And the king H4428 said H559 (8799) to Doeg H1673, Turn H5437 (8798) thou, and fall H6293 (8798) upon the priests H3548. And Doeg H1673 the Edomite H130 turned H5437 (8735), and he fell H6293 (8799) upon the priests H3548, and slew H4191 (8686) on that day H3117 fourscore H8084 and five H2568 persons H376 that did wear H5375 (8802) a linen H906 ephod H646.
[19] And Nob H5011, the city H5892 of the priests H3548, smote H5221 (8689) he with the edge H6310 of the sword H2719, both men H376 and women H802, children H5768 and sucklings H3243 (8802), and oxen H7794, and asses H2543, and sheep H7716, with the edge H6310 of the sword H2719.
[20] And one H259 of the sons H1121 of Ahimelech H288 the son H1121 of Ahitub H285, named H8034 Abiathar H54, escaped H4422 (8735), and fled H1272 (8799) after H310 David H1732.
[21] And Abiathar H54 shewed H5046 (8686) David H1732 that Saul H7586 had slain H2026 (8804) the LORD’S H3068 priests H3548.
[22] And David H1732 said H559 (8799) unto Abiathar H54, I knew H3045 (8804) [it] that day H3117, when Doeg H1673 the Edomite H130 [was] there, that he would surely H5046 (8687) tell H5046 (8686) Saul H7586: I have occasioned H5437 (8804) [the death] of all the persons H5315 of thy father’s H1 house H1004.
[23] Abide H3427 (8798) thou with me, fear H3372 (8799) not: for he that seeketh H1245 (8762) my life H5315 seeketh H1245 (8762) thy life H5315: but with me thou [shalt be] in safeguard H4931.
Young’s Literal Translation
1 Samuel 22 (YLT)
[1] And David goeth thence, and is escaped unto the cave of Adullam, and his brethren hear, and all the house of his father, and go down unto him thither;
[2] and gather themselves unto him do every man in distress, and every man who hath an exactor, and every man bitter in soul, and he is over them for head, and there are with him about four hundred men.
[3] And David goeth thence to Mizpeh of Moab, and saith unto the king of Moab, ‘Let, I pray thee, my father and my mother go out with you, till that I know what God doth for me;’
[4] and he leadeth them before the king of Moab, and they dwell with him all the days of David’s being in the fortress.
[5] And Gad the prophet saith unto David, ‘Thou dost not abide in a fortress, go, and thou hast entered for thee the land of Judah;’ and David goeth and entereth the forest of Hareth.
[6] And Saul heareth that David hath become known, and the men who are with him, and Saul is abiding in Gibeah, under the grove in Ramah, and his spear is in his hand, and all his servants standing by him.
[7] And Saul saith to his servants who are standing by him, ‘Hear, I pray you, ye Benjamites; also to all of you doth the son of Jesse give fields and vineyards! all of you he doth appoint heads of thousands and heads of hundreds!
[8] for ye have conspired all of you against me, and there is none uncovering mine ear about my son’s covenanting with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you grieving for me, and uncovering mine ear, that my son hath raised up my servant against me, to lie in wait as at this day.’
[9] And answer doth Doeg the Edomite, who is set over the servants of Saul, and saith, ‘I have seen the son of Jesse coming in to Nob, unto Ahimelech son of Ahitub,
[10] and he asketh for him at Jehovah, and provision hath given to him, and the sword of Goliath the Philistine hath given to him.
[11] And the king sendeth to call Ahimelech son of Ahitub, the priest, and all the house of his father, the priests, who are in Nob, and they come all of them unto the king;
[12] and Saul saith, ‘Hear, I pray thee, son of Ahitub;’ and he saith, ‘Here am I, my lord.’
[13] And Saul saith unto him, ‘Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, by thy giving to him bread and a sword, and to ask for him at God, to rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?’
[14] And Ahimelech answereth the king and saith, ‘And who among all thy servants is as David-faithful, and son-in-law of the king, and hath turned aside unto thy council, and is honoured in thy house?
[15] To-day have I begun to ask for him at God? far be it from me! let not the king lay anything against his servant, against any of the house of my father, for thy servant hath known nothing of all this, less or more.’
[16] And the king saith, ‘Thou dost surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all the house of thy father.’
[17] And the king saith to runners, those standing by him, ‘Turn round, and put to death the priests of Jehovah, because their hand also is with David, and because they have known that he is fleeing, and have not uncovered mine ear;’ and the servants of the king have not been willing to put forth their hand to come against the priests of Jehovah.
[18] And the king saith to Doeg, ‘Turn round thou, and come against the priests;’ and Doeg the Edomite turneth round, and cometh himself against the priests, and putteth to death in that day eighty and five men bearing a linen ephod,
[19] and Nob, the city of the priests, he hath smitten by the mouth of the sword, from man even unto woman, from infant even unto suckling, and ox, and ass, and sheep, by the mouth of the sword.
[20] And there escapeth one son of Ahimelech, son of Ahitub, and his name is Abiathar, and he fleeth after David,
[21] and Abiathar declareth to David that Saul hath slain the priests of Jehovah.
[22] And David saith to Abiathar, ‘I have known on that day when Doeg the Edomite is there, that he doth certainly declare it to Saul; I have brought it round to every person of the house of thy father;
[23] dwell with me; fear not; for he who seeketh my life seeketh thy life; for a charge art thou with me.’
