1 Samuel 24 (WEBP)
 When Saul had returned from following the Philistines, he was told, “Behold, David is in the wilderness of En Gedi.”
 Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men on the rocks of the wild goats.
 He came to the sheep pens by the way, where there was a cave; and Saul went in to relieve himself. Now David and his men were staying in the innermost parts of the cave.
 David’s men said to him, “Behold, the day of which Yahweh said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, and you shall do to him as it shall seem good to you.’ ” Then David arose and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe secretly.
 Afterward, David’s heart struck him because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.
 He said to his men, “Yahweh forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, Yahweh’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, since he is Yahweh’s anointed.”
 So David checked his men with these words, and didn’t allow them to rise against Saul. Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.
 David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave and cried after Saul, saying, “My lord the king!” When Saul looked behind him, David bowed with his face to the earth, and showed respect.
 David said to Saul, “Why do you listen to men’s words, saying, ‘Behold, David seeks to harm you’?
 Behold, today your eyes have seen how Yahweh had delivered you today into my hand in the cave. Some urged me to kill you, but I spared you. I said, ‘I will not stretch out my hand against my lord, for he is Yahweh’s anointed.’
 Moreover, my father, behold, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of your robe and didn’t kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor disobedience in my hand. I have not sinned against you, though you hunt for my life to take it.
 May Yahweh judge between me and you, and may Yahweh avenge me of you; but my hand will not be on you.
 As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘Out of the wicked comes wickedness;’ but my hand will not be on you.
 Against whom has the king of Israel come out? Whom do you pursue? A dead dog? A flea?
 May Yahweh therefore be judge, and give sentence between me and you, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.”
 It came to pass, when David had finished speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, “Is that your voice, my son David?” Saul lifted up his voice and wept.
 He said to David, “You are more righteous than I; for you have done good to me, whereas I have done evil to you.
 You have declared today how you have dealt well with me, because when Yahweh had delivered me up into your hand, you didn’t kill me.
 For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him go away unharmed? Therefore may Yahweh reward you good for that which you have done to me today.
 Now, behold, I know that you will surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel will be established in your hand.
 Swear now therefore to me by Yahweh that you will not cut off my offspring after me, and that you will not destroy my name out of my father’s house.”
 David swore to Saul. Saul went home, but David and his men went up to the stronghold.

1 Samuel 24 (KJVS)
 And it came to pass, when Saul H7586 was returned H7725 (8804) from following H310 the Philistines H6430, that it was told H5046 (8686) him, saying H559 (8800), Behold, David H1732 [is] in the wilderness H4057 of Engedi H5872.
 Then Saul H7586 took H3947 (8799) three H7969 thousand H505 chosen H977 (8803) men H376 out of all Israel H3478, and went H3212 (8799) to seek H1245 (8763) David H1732 and his men H582 upon H6440 the rocks H6697 of the wild goats H3277.
 And he came H935 (8799) to the sheepcotes H1448 H6629 by the way H1870, where [was] a cave H4631; and Saul H7586 went in H935 (8799) to cover H5526 (8687) his feet H7272: and David H1732 and his men H582 remained H3427 (8802) in the sides H3411 of the cave H4631.
 And the men H582 of David H1732 said H559 (8799) unto him, Behold the day H3117 of which the LORD H3068 said H559 (8804) unto thee, Behold, I will deliver H5414 (8802) thine enemy H341 (8802) into thine hand H3027, that thou mayest do H6213 (8804) to him as it shall seem good H3190 (8799) unto thee H5869. Then David H1732 arose H6965 (8799), and cut off H3772 (8799) the skirt H3671 of Saul’s H7586 robe H4598 privily H3909.
 And it came to pass afterward H310, that David’s H1732 heart H3820 smote H5221 (8686) him, because he had cut off H3772 (8804) Saul’s H7586 skirt H3671.
 And he said H559 (8799) unto his men H582, The LORD H3068 forbid H2486 that I should do H6213 (8799) this thing H1697 unto my master H113, the LORD’S H3068 anointed H4899, to stretch forth H7971 (8800) mine hand H3027 against him, seeing he [is] the anointed H4899 of the LORD H3068.
 So David H1732 stayed H8156 (8762) his servants H582 with these words H1697, and suffered H5414 (8804) them not to rise H6965 (8800) against Saul H7586. But Saul H7586 rose up H6965 (8804) out of the cave H4631, and went H3212 (8799) on [his] way H1870.
 David H1732 also arose H6965 (8799) afterward, and went out H3318 (8799) of the cave H4631, and cried H7121 (8799) after H310 Saul H7586, saying H559 (8800), My lord H113 the king H4428. And when Saul H7586 looked H5027 (8686) behind H310 him, David H1732 stooped H6915 (8799) with his face H639 to the earth H776, and bowed H7812 (8691) himself.
 And David H1732 said H559 (8799) to Saul H7586, Wherefore hearest H8085 (8799) thou men’s H120 words H1697, saying H559 (8800), Behold, David H1732 seeketh H1245 (8764) thy hurt H7451?
 Behold, this day H3117 thine eyes H5869 have seen H7200 (8804) how that the LORD H3068 had delivered H5414 (8804) thee to day H3117 into mine hand H3027 in the cave H4631: and [some] bade H559 (8804) [me] kill H2026 (8800) thee: but [mine eye] spared H2347 (8799) thee; and I said H559 (8799), I will not put forth H7971 (8799) mine hand H3027 against my lord H113; for he [is] the LORD’S H3068 anointed H4899.
 Moreover, my father H1, see H7200 (8798), yea, see H7200 (8798) the skirt H3671 of thy robe H4598 in my hand H3027: for in that I cut off H3772 (8800) the skirt H3671 of thy robe H4598, and killed H2026 (8804) thee not, know H3045 (8798) thou and see H7200 (8798) that [there is] neither evil H7451 nor transgression H6588 in mine hand H3027, and I have not sinned H2398 (8804) against thee; yet thou huntest H6658 (8802) my soul H5315 to take H3947 (8800) it.
 The LORD H3068 judge H8199 (8799) between me and thee, and the LORD H3068 avenge H5358 (8804) me of thee: but mine hand H3027 shall not be upon thee.
 As saith H559 (8799) the proverb H4912 of the ancients H6931, Wickedness H7562 proceedeth H3318 (8799) from the wicked H7563: but mine hand H3027 shall not be upon thee.
 After H310 whom is the king H4428 of Israel H3478 come out H3318 (8804)? after H310 whom dost thou pursue H7291 (8802)? after H310 a dead H4191 (8801) dog H3611, after H310 a H259 flea H6550.
 The LORD H3068 therefore be judge H1781, and judge H8199 (8804) between me and thee, and see H7200 (8799), and plead H7378 (8799) my cause H7379, and deliver H8199 (8799) me out of thine hand H3027.
 And it came to pass, when David H1732 had made an end H3615 (8763) of speaking H1696 (8763) these words H1697 unto Saul H7586, that Saul H7586 said H559 (8799), [Is] this thy voice H6963, my son H1121 David H1732? And Saul H7586 lifted up H5375 (8799) his voice H6963, and wept H1058 (8799).
 And he said H559 (8799) to David H1732, Thou [art] more righteous H6662 than I: for thou hast rewarded H1580 (8804) me good H2896, whereas I have rewarded H1580 (8804) thee evil H7451.
 And thou hast shewed H5046 (8689) this day H3117 how that thou hast dealt H6213 (8804) well H2896 with me: forasmuch as when the LORD H3068 had delivered H5462 (8765) me into thine hand H3027, thou killedst H2026 (8804) me not.
 For if a man H376 find H4672 (8799) his enemy H341 (8802), will he let him go H7971 (8765) well H2896 away H1870? wherefore the LORD H3068 reward H7999 (8762) thee good H2896 for that thou hast done H6213 (8804) unto me this day H3117.
 And now, behold, I know well H3045 (8804) that thou shalt surely H4427 (8800) be king H4427 (8799), and that the kingdom H4467 of Israel H3478 shall be established H6965 (8804) in thine hand H3027.
 Swear H7650 (8734) now therefore unto me by the LORD H3068, that thou wilt not H518 cut off H3772 (8686) my seed H2233 after H310 me, and that thou wilt not destroy H8045 (8686) my name H8034 out of my father’s H1 house H1004.
 And David H1732 sware H7650 (8735) unto Saul H7586. And Saul H7586 went H3212 (8799) home H1004; but David H1732 and his men H582 gat them up H5927 (8804) unto the hold H4686.
Young’s Literal Translation
1 Samuel 24 (YLT)
 And it cometh to pass when Saul hath turned back from after the Philistines, that they declare to him, saying, ‘Lo, David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.’
 And Saul taketh three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and goeth to seek David and his men, on the front of the rocks of the wild goats,
 and he cometh in unto folds of the flock, on the way, and there is a cave, and Saul goeth in to cover his feet; and David and his men in the sides of the cave are abiding.
 And the men of David say unto him, ‘Lo, the day of which Jehovah said unto thee, Lo, I am giving thine enemy into thy hand, and thou hast done to him as it is good in thine eyes;’ and David riseth and cutteth off the skirt of the upper robe which is on Saul-gently.
 And it cometh to pass afterwards that the heart of David smiteth him, because that he hath cut off the skirt which is on Saul,
 and he saith to his men, ‘Far be it from me, by Jehovah; I do not do this thing to my lord-to the anointed of Jehovah-to put forth my hand against him, for the anointed of Jehovah he is.’
 And David subdueth his men by words, and hath not permitted them to rise against Saul; and Saul hath risen from the cave, and goeth on the way;
 and David riseth afterwards, and goeth out from the cave, and calleth after Saul, saying, ‘My lord, O king!’ And Saul looketh attentively behind him, and David boweth-face to the earth-and doth obeisance.
 And David saith to Saul, ‘Why dost thou hear the words of man, saying, Lo, David is seeking thine evil?
 Lo, this day have thine eyes seen how that Jehovah hath given thee to-day into my hand in the cave; and one said to slay thee, and mine eye hath pity on thee, and I say, I do not put forth my hand against my lord, for the anointed of Jehovah he is.
 ‘And, my father, see, yea see the skirt of thine upper robe in my hand; for by cutting off the skirt of thy upper robe, and I have not slain thee, know and see that there is not in my hand evil and transgression, and I have not sinned against thee, and thou art hunting my soul to take it!
 ‘Jehovah doth judge between me and thee, and Jehovah hath avenged me of thee, and my hand is not on thee;
 as saith the simile of the ancients, From the wicked goeth out wickedness, and my hand is not on thee.
 ‘After whom hath the king of Israel come out? after whom art thou pursuing?-after a dead dog! after one flea!
 And Jehovah hath been for judge, and hath judged between me and thee, yea, he seeth and pleadeth my cause, and doth deliver me out of thy hand.’
 And it cometh to pass, when David completeth to speak these words unto Saul, that Saul saith, ‘Is this thy voice, my son David?’ and Saul lifteth up his voice, and weepeth.
 And he saith unto David, ‘More righteous thou art than I; for thou hast done me good, and I have done thee evil;
 and thou hast declared to-day how that thou hast done good with me, how that Jehovah shut me up into thy hand, and thou didst not slay me,
 and that a man doth find his enemy, and hath sent him away in a good manner; and Jehovah doth repay thee good for that which thou didst to me this day.
 ‘And, now, lo, I have known that thou dost certainly reign, and the kingdom of Israel hath stood in thy hand;
 and, now, swear to me by Jehovah-thou dost not cut off my seed after me, nor dost thou destroy my name from the house of my father.’
 And David sweareth to Saul, and Saul goeth unto his house, and David and his men have gone up unto the fortress.
