4 Maccabees – search, read, and compare multiple versions of the Bible

This is an address on a philosophical question rather than a history: whether devout reason can master the passions. The author argues that it can and offers the martyrs of 2 Maccabees 7 as his proof, retelling their deaths at length. It was written in polished Greek, probably in the first century AD, and Orthodox Bibles print it in an appendix rather than among the other books.
