Daniel 8 (WEBP)
In the third year of the reign of King Belshazzar, a vision appeared to me, even to me, Daniel, after that which appeared to me at the first.
I saw the vision. Now it was so, that when I saw, I was in the citadel of Susa, which is in the province of Elam. I saw in the vision, and I was by the river Ulai.
Then I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, a ram which had two horns stood before the river. The two horns were high, but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.
I saw the ram pushing westward, northward, and southward. No animals could stand before him. There wasn’t any who could deliver out of his hand, but he did according to his will, and magnified himself.
As I was considering, behold, a male goat came from the west over the surface of the whole earth, and didn’t touch the ground. The goat had a notable horn between his eyes.
He came to the ram that had the two horns, which I saw standing before the river, and ran on him in the fury of his power.
I saw him come close to the ram, and he was moved with anger against him, and struck the ram, and broke his two horns. There was no power in the ram to stand before him; but he cast him down to the ground and trampled on him. There was no one who could deliver the ram out of his hand.
The male goat magnified himself exceedingly. When he was strong, the great horn was broken; and instead of it there came up four notable horns toward the four winds of the sky.
Out of one of them came out a little horn which grew exceedingly great—toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the glorious land.
It grew great, even to the army of the sky; and it cast down some of the army and of the stars to the ground and trampled on them.
Yes, it magnified itself, even to the prince of the army; and it took away from him the continual burnt offering, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.
The army was given over to it together with the continual burnt offering through disobedience. It cast down truth to the ground, and it did its pleasure and prospered.
Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to that certain one who spoke, “How long will the vision about the continual burnt offering, and the disobedience that makes desolate, to give both the sanctuary and the army to be trodden under foot be?”
He said to me, “To two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings. Then the sanctuary will be cleansed.”
When I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, I sought to understand it. Then behold, there stood before me someone with the appearance of a man.
I heard a man’s voice between the banks of the Ulai, which called and said, “Gabriel, make this man understand the vision.”
So he came near where I stood; and when he came, I was frightened, and fell on my face; but he said to me, “Understand, son of man, for the vision belongs to the time of the end.”
Now as he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face toward the ground; but he touched me and set me upright.
He said, “Behold, I will make you know what will be in the latter time of the indignation, for it belongs to the appointed time of the end.
The ram which you saw, that had the two horns, they are the kings of Media and Persia.
The rough male goat is the king of Greece. The great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.
As for that which was broken, in the place where four stood up, four kingdoms will stand up out of the nation, but not with his power.
“In the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors have come to the full, a king of fierce face, and understanding riddles, will stand up.
His power will be mighty, but not by his own power. He will destroy awesomely, and will prosper in what he does. He will destroy the mighty ones and the holy people.
Through his policy he will cause deceit to prosper in his hand. He will magnify himself in his heart, and he will destroy many in their security. He will also stand up against the prince of princes, but he will be broken without human hands.
“The vision of the evenings and mornings which has been told is true; but seal up the vision, for it belongs to many days to come.”
I, Daniel, fainted, and was sick for some days. Then I rose up and did the king’s business. I wondered at the vision, but no one understood it.

Daniel 8 (KJVS)
In the third H7969 year H8141 of the reign H4438 of king H4428 Belshazzar H1112 a vision H2377 appeared H7200 (8738) unto me, [even unto] me Daniel H1840, after H310 that which appeared H7200 (8738) unto me at the first H8462.
And I saw H7200 (8799) in a vision H2377; and it came to pass, when I saw H7200 (8800), that I [was] at Shushan H7800 [in] the palace H1002, which [is] in the province H4082 of Elam H5867; and I saw H7200 (8799) in a vision H2377, and I was by the river H180 of Ulai H195.
Then I lifted up H5375 (8799) mine eyes H5869, and saw H7200 (8799), and, behold, there stood H5975 (8802) before H6440 the river H180 a H259 ram H352 which had [two] horns H7161: and the [two] horns H7161 [were] high H1364; but one H259 [was] higher H1364 than the other H8145, and the higher H1364 came up H5927 (8802) last H314.
I saw H7200 (8804) the ram H352 pushing H5055 (8764) westward H3220, and northward H6828, and southward H5045; so that no beasts H2416 might stand H5975 (8799) before H6440 him, neither [was there any] that could deliver H5337 (8688) out of his hand H3027; but he did H6213 (8804) according to his will H7522, and became great H1431 (8689).
And as I was considering H995 (8688), behold, an he H5795 goat H6842 came H935 (8802) from the west H4628 on the face H6440 of the whole earth H776, and touched H5060 (8802) not the ground H776: and the goat H6842 [had] a notable H2380 horn H7161 between his eyes H5869.
And he came H935 (8799) to the ram H352 that had H1167 [two] horns H7161, which I had seen H7200 (8804) standing H5975 (8802) before H6440 the river H180, and ran H7323 (8799) unto him in the fury H2534 of his power H3581.
And I saw H7200 (8804) him come H5060 (8688) close unto H681 the ram H352, and he was moved with choler H4843 (8698) against him, and smote H5221 (8686) the ram H352, and brake H7665 (8762) his two H8147 horns H7161: and there was no power H3581 in the ram H352 to stand H5975 (8800) before H6440 him, but he cast him down H7993 (8686) to the ground H776, and stamped H7429 (8799) upon him: and there was none that could deliver H5337 (8688) the ram H352 out of his hand H3027.
Therefore the he H6842 goat H5795 waxed very H3966 great H1431 (8689): and when he was strong H6105 (8800), the great H1419 horn H7161 was broken H7665 (8738); and for it came up H5927 (8799) four H702 notable ones H2380 toward the four H702 winds H7307 of heaven H8064.
And out of one H259 of them came forth H3318 (8804) a little H4704 horn H7161, which waxed exceeding H3499 great H1431 (8799), toward the south H5045, and toward the east H4217, and toward the pleasant H6643 [land].
And it waxed great H1431 (8799), [even] to the host H6635 of heaven H8064; and it cast down H5307 (8686) [some] of the host H6635 and of the stars H3556 to the ground H776, and stamped H7429 (8799) upon them.
Yea, he magnified H1431 (8689) [himself] even to the prince H8269 of the host H6635, and by him the daily H8548 [sacrifice] was taken away H7311 (8717) (8675) H7311 (8689), and the place H4349 of his sanctuary H4720 was cast down H7993 (8717).
And an host H6635 was given H5414 (8735) [him] against the daily H8548 [sacrifice] by reason of transgression H6588, and it cast down H7993 (8686) the truth H571 to the ground H776; and it practised H6213 (8804), and prospered H6743 (8689).
Then I heard H8085 (8799) one H259 saint H6918 speaking H1696 (8764), and another H259 saint H6918 said H559 (8799) unto that certain H6422 [saint] which spake H1696 (8764), How long [shall be] the vision H2377 [concerning] the daily H8548 [sacrifice], and the transgression H6588 of desolation H8074 (8802), to give H5414 (8800) both the sanctuary H6944 and the host H6635 to be trodden under foot H4823?
And he said H559 (8799) unto me, Unto two thousand H505 and three H7969 hundred H3967 days H6153 H1242; then shall the sanctuary H6944 be cleansed H6663 (8738).
And it came to pass, when I, [even] I Daniel H1840, had seen H7200 (8800) the vision H2377, and sought H1245 (8762) for the meaning H998, then, behold, there stood H5975 (8802) before me as the appearance H4758 of a man H1397.
 And I heard H8085 (8799) a man’s H120 voice H6963 between [the banks of] Ulai H195, which called H7121 (8799), and said H559 (8799), Gabriel H1403, make this H1975 [man] to understand H995 (8685) the vision H4758.
So he came H935 (8799) near H681 where I stood H5977: and when he came H935 (8800), I was afraid H1204 (8738), and fell H5307 (8799) upon my face H6440: but he said H559 (8799) unto me, Understand H995 (8685), O son H1121 of man H120: for at the time H6256 of the end H7093 [shall be] the vision H2377.
Now as he was speaking H1696 (8763) with me, I was in a deep sleep H7290 (8738) on my face H6440 toward the ground H776: but he touched H5060 (8799) me, and set H5975 (8686) me upright H5977.
And he said H559 (8799), Behold, I will make thee know H3045 (8688) what shall be in the last end H319 of the indignation H2195: for at the time appointed H4150 the end H7093 [shall be].
The ram H352 which thou sawest H7200 (8804) having H1167 [two] horns H7161 [are] the kings H4428 of Media H4074 and Persia H6539.
And the rough H8163 goat H6842 [is] the king H4428 of Grecia H3120: and the great H1419 horn H7161 that [is] between his eyes H5869 [is] the first H7223 king H4428.
Now that being broken H7665 (8737), whereas four H702 stood up H5975 (8799) for it, four H702 kingdoms H4438 shall stand up H5975 (8799) out of the nation H1471, but not in his power H3581.
And in the latter time H319 of their kingdom H4438, when the transgressors H6586 (8802) are come to the full H8552 (8687), a king H4428 of fierce H5794 countenance H6440, and understanding H995 (8688) dark sentences H2420, shall stand up H5975 (8799).
And his power H3581 shall be mighty H6105 (8804), but not by his own power H3581: and he shall destroy H7843 (8686) wonderfully H6381 (8737), and shall prosper H6743 (8689), and practise H6213 (8804), and shall destroy H7843 (8689) the mighty H6099 and the holy H6918 people H5971.
And through his policy H7922 also he shall cause craft H4820 to prosper H6743 (8689) in his hand H3027; and he shall magnify H1431 (8686) [himself] in his heart H3824, and by peace H7962 shall destroy H7843 (8686) many H7227: he shall also stand up H5975 (8799) against the Prince H8269 of princes H8269; but he shall be broken H7665 (8735) without H657 hand H3027.
And the vision H4758 of the evening H6153 and the morning H1242 which was told H559 (8738) [is] true H571: wherefore shut thou up H5640 (8798) the vision H2377; for it [shall be] for many H7227 days H3117.
 And I Daniel H1840 fainted H1961 (8738), and was sick H2470 (8738) [certain] days H3117; afterward I rose up H6965 (8799), and did H6213 (8799) the king’s H4428 business H4399; and I was astonished H8074 (8709) at the vision H4758, but none understood H995 (8688) [it].
Young’s Literal Translation
Daniel 8 (YLT)
‘In the third year of the reign of Belshazzar the king, a vision hath appeared unto me-I Daniel-after that which had appeared unto me at the beginning.
And I see in a vision, and it cometh to pass, in my seeing, and I am in Shushan the palace that is in Elam the province, and I see in a vision, and I have been by the stream Ulai.
And I lift up mine eyes, and look, and lo, a certain ram is standing before the stream, and it hath two horns, and the two horns are high; and the one is higher than the other, and the high one is coming up last.
I have seen the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward, and no living creatures do stand before it, and there is none delivering out of its hand, and it hath done according to its pleasure, and hath exerted itself.
‘And I have been considering, and lo, a young he-goat hath come from the west, over the face of the whole earth, whom none is touching in the earth; as to the young he-goat, a conspicuous horn is between its eyes.
And it cometh unto the ram possessing the two horns, that I had seen standing before the stream, and runneth unto it in the fury of its power.
And I have seen it coming near the ram, and it becometh embittered at it, and smiteth the ram, and breaketh its two horns, and there hath been no power in the ram to stand before it, and it casteth it to the earth, and trampleth it down, and there hath been no deliverer to the ram out of its power.
‘And the young he-goat hath exerted itself very much, and when it is strong, broken hath been the great horn; and come up doth a vision of four in its place, at the four winds of the heavens.
 And from the one of them come forth hath a little horn, and it exerteth itself greatly toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the beauteous land;
yea, it exerteth unto the host of the heavens, and causeth to fall to the earth of the host, and of the stars, and trampleth them down.
And unto the prince of the host it exerteth itself, and by it taken away hath been the continual sacrifice, and thrown down the base of his sanctuary.
And the host is given up, with the continual sacrifice, through transgression, and it throweth down truth to the earth, and it hath worked, and prospered.
‘And I hear a certain holy one speaking, and a certain holy one saith to the wonderful numberer who is speaking: Till when is the vision of the continual sacrifice, and of the transgression, an astonishment, to make both sanctuary and host a treading down?
And he saith unto me, Till evening-morning two thousand and three hundred, then is the holy place declared right.
‘And it cometh to pass in my seeing-I, Daniel-the vision, that I require understanding, and lo, standing over-against me is as the appearance of a mighty one.
And I hear a voice of man between the banks of Ulai, and he calleth and saith: Gabriel, cause this one to understand the appearance.
And he cometh in near my station, and at his coming in I have been afraid, and I fall on my face, and he saith unto me: Understand, son of man, for at the time of the end is the vision.
And in his speaking with me, I have been in a trance on my face, on the earth; and he cometh against me, and causeth me to stand on my station,
and saith: Lo, I-I am causing thee to know that which is in the latter end of the indignation; for, at the appointed time is the end.
‘The ram that thou hast seen possessing two horns, are the kings of Media and Persia.
 And the young he-goat, the hairy one, is the king of Javan; and the great horn that is between its eyes is the first king;
and that being broken, stand up do four in its place, four kingdoms from the nation do stand up, and not in its power.
 ‘And in the latter end of their kingdom, about the perfecting of the transgressors, stand up doth a king, fierce of face, and understanding hidden things;
and his power hath been mighty, and not by his own power; and wonderful things he destroyeth, and he hath prospered, and wrought, and destroyed mighty ones, and the people of the Holy Ones.
‘And by his understanding he hath also caused deceit to prosper in his hand, and in his heart he exerteth himself, and by ease he destroyeth many; and against the prince of princes he standeth-and without hand he is broken.
And the appearance of the evening and of the morning, that is told, is true; and thou, hide thou the vision, for it is after many days.’
And I, Daniel, have been, yea, I became sick for days, and I rise, and do the king’s work, and am astonished at the appearance, and there is none understanding.
