They said to me, “The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”

and they say to me, ‘Those left, who have been left of the captivity there in the province, are in great evil, and in reproach, and the wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burnt with fire.’

let your ear now be attentive and your eyes open, that you may listen to the prayer of your servant which I pray before you at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel your servants, while I confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against you. Yes, I and my father’s house have sinned.

let Thine ear be, I pray Thee, attentive, and Thine eyes open, to hearken unto the prayer of Thy servant, that I am praying before Thee to-day, by day and by night, concerning the sons of Israel Thy servants, and confessing concerning the sins of the sons of Israel, that we have sinned against Thee; yea, I and the house of my father have sinned;

We have dealt very corruptly against you, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances, which you commanded your servant Moses.

We have dealt very H2254 (QalInf) corruptly H2254 (QalPerf) against thee, and have not kept H8104 (QalPerf) the commandments, H4687 nor the statutes, H2706 nor the judgments, H4941 which thou commandedst H6680 (PielPerf) thy servant H5650 Moses. H4872

we have acted very corruptly against Thee, and have not kept the commands, and the statutes, and the judgments, that Thou didst command Moses Thy servant.

“Remember, I beg you, the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you trespass, I will scatter you among the peoples;

Remember, H2142 (QalImpv) I beseech thee, the word H1697 that thou commandedst H6680 (PielPerf) thy servant H5650 Moses, H4872 saying, H559 (QalInf) [If] ye transgress, H4603 (QalImpf) I will scatter you abroad H6327 (HiphImpf) among the nations: H5971

‘Remember, I pray Thee, the word that Thou didst command Moses Thy servant, saying, Ye-ye trespass-I scatter you among peoples;

but if you return to me, and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts were in the uttermost part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and will bring them to the place that I have chosen, to cause my name to dwell there.’

But [if] ye turn H7725 (QalPerf) unto me, and keep H8104 (QalPerf) my commandments, H4687 and do H6213 (QalPerf) them; though there were of you cast out H5080 (NiphPtc) unto the uttermost part H7097 of the heaven, H8064 [yet] will I gather H6908 (PielImpf) them from thence, and will bring H935 (HiphPerf) them unto the place H4725 that I have chosen H977 (QalPerf) to set H7931 (PielInf) my name H8034 there.

and ye have turned back unto Me, and kept My commands, and done them-if your outcast is in the end of the heavens, thence I gather them, and have brought them in unto the place that I have chosen to cause My name to tabernacle there.

“Now these are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand.

Now these [are] thy servants H5650 and thy people, H5971 whom thou hast redeemed H6299 (QalPerf) by thy great H1419 power, H3581 and by thy strong H2389 hand. H3027

And they are Thy servants, and Thy people, whom Thou hast ransomed by Thy great power, and by Thy strong hand.

I said to the king, “Let the king live forever! Why shouldn’t my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ tombs, lies waste, and its gates have been consumed with fire?”

And said H559 (QalImpf) unto the king, H4428 Let the king H4428 live H2421 (QalImpf) for ever: H5769 why should not my countenance H6440 be sad, H3415 (QalImpf) when the city, H5892 the place H1004 of my fathers’ H1 sepulchres, H6913 [lieth] waste, H2720 and the gates H8179 thereof are consumed H398 (PualPerf) with fire? and say to the king, ‘Let the king to the age live! wherefore should not my face be sad, when the city, the place of the graves of my fathers, is a waste, and its gates have been consumed with fire?’

Moreover I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, let letters be given me to the governors beyond the River, that they may let me pass through until I come to Judah;

Moreover I said H559 (QalImpf) unto the king, H4428 If it please H2895 (QalPerf) the king, H4428 let letters H107 be given H5414 (QalImpf) me to the governors H6346 beyond H5676 the river, H5104 that they may convey me over H5674 (HiphImpf) till I come H935 (QalImpf) into Judah; H3063

And I say to the king, ‘If to the king it be good, letters let be given to me for the governors beyond the River, that they let me pass over till that I come in unto Judah:

and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he may give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple, for the wall of the city, and for the house that I will occupy.” The king granted my requests, because of the good hand of my God on me.

And a letter H107 unto Asaph H623 the keeper H8104 (QalActPtc) of the king’s H4428 forest, H6508 that he may give H5414 (QalImpf) me timber H6086 to make beams H7136 (PielInf) for the gates H8179 of the palace H1002 which [appertained] to the house, H1004 and for the wall H2346 of the city, H5892 and for the house H1004 that I shall enter into. H935 (QalImpf) And the king H4428 granted H5414 (QalImpf) me, according to the good H2896 hand H3027 of my God H430 upon me.

and a letter unto Asaph, keeper of the paradise that the king hath, that he give to me trees for beams for the gates of the palace that the house hath, and for the wall of the city, and for the house into which I enter;’ and the king giveth to me, according to the good hand of my God upon me.

I arose in the night, I and a few men with me. I didn’t tell anyone what my God put into my heart to do for Jerusalem. There wasn’t any animal with me except the animal that I rode on.

And I arose H6965 (QalImpf) in the night, H3915 I and some H4592 few H4592 men H582 with me; neither told H5046 (HiphPerf) I [any] man H120 what my God H430 had put H5414 (QalActPtc) in my heart H3820 to do H6213 (QalInf) at Jerusalem: H3389 neither [was there any] beast H929 with me, save the beast H929 that I rode upon. and I rise by night, I and a few men with me, and have not declared to a man what my God is giving unto my heart to do for Jerusalem, and there is no beast with me except the beast on which I am riding.

I went out by night by the valley gate toward the jackal’s well, then to the dung gate; and I inspected the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and its gates were consumed with fire.

And I went out H3318 (QalImpf) by night H3915 by the gate H8179 of the valley, H1516 even before H6440 the dragon H8577 well, H5869 (QK) H5886 and to the dung H830 port, H8179 and viewed H7663 (QalActPtc) (Qere) H7665 (QalImpf) the walls H2346 of Jerusalem, H3389 which were broken down, H6555 (QalPasPtc) and the gates H8179 thereof were consumed H398 (PualPerf) with fire. And I go out through the gate of the valley by night, and unto the front of the fountain of the dragon, and unto the gate of the dunghill, and I am measuring about the walls of Jerusalem, that are broken down, and its gates consumed with fire.

I told them about the hand of my God which was good on me, and also about the king’s words that he had spoken to me. They said, “Let’s rise up and build.” So they strengthened their hands for the good work.

Then I told H5046 (HiphImpf) them of the hand H3027 of my God H430 which was good H2896 upon me; as also the king’s H4428 words H1697 that he had spoken H559 (QalPerf) unto me. And they said, H559 (QalImpf) Let us rise up H6965 (QalImpf) and build. H1129 (QalPerf) So they strengthened H2388 (PielImpf) their hands H3027 for [this] good H2896 [work].

And I declare to them the hand of my God that is good upon me, and also the words of the king that he said to me, and they say, ‘Let us rise, and we have built;’ and they strengthen their hands for good.

Palal the son of Uzai made repairs opposite the turning of the wall, and the tower that stands out from the upper house of the king, which is by the court of the guard. After him Pedaiah the son of Parosh made repairs.

Palal H6420 the son H1121 of Uzai, H186 over against the turning H4740 [of the wall], and the tower H4026 which lieth out H3318 (QalActPtc) from the king’s H4428 high H5945 house, H1004 that [was] by the court H2691 of the prison. H4307 After H310 him Pedaiah H6305 the son H1121 of Parosh. H6551

Palal son of Uzai, from over-against the angle, and the tower that is going out from the upper house of the king that is at the court of the prison; after him Pedaiah son of Parosh.

Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, “What they are building, if a fox climbed up it, he would break down their stone wall.”

Now Tobiah H2900 the Ammonite H5984 [was] by him, H681 and he said, H559 (QalImpf) Even that which they build, H1129 (QalActPtc) if a fox H7776 go up, H5927 (QalImpf) he shall even break down H6555 (QalPerf) their stone H68 wall. H2346

And Tobiah the Ammonite is by him and saith, ‘Also, that which they are building-if a fox doth go up, then it hath broken down their stone wall.’

Our adversaries said, “They will not know or see, until we come in among them and kill them, and cause the work to cease.”

And our adversaries H6862 said, H559 (QalImpf) They shall not know, H3045 (QalImpf) neither see, H7200 (QalImpf) till we come H935 (QalImpf) in the midst H8432 among H8432 them, and slay H2026 (QalPerf) them, and cause the work H4399 to cease. H7673 (HiphPerf)

And our adversaries say, ‘They do not know, nor see, till that we come in to their midst, and have slain them, and caused the work to cease.’

When the Jews who lived by them came, they said to us ten times from all places, “Wherever you turn, they will attack us.”

And it came to pass, that when the Jews H3064 which dwelt H3427 (QalActPtc) by them H681 came, H935 (QalPerf) they said H559 (QalImpf) unto us ten H6235 times, H6471 From all places H4725 whence ye shall return H7725 (QalImpf) unto us [they will be upon you].

And it cometh to pass, when the Jews have come who are dwelling near them, that they say to us ten times from all the places whither ye return-they are against us.

Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally there to us. Our God will fight for us.”

In what place H4725 [therefore] ye hear H8085 (QalImpf) the sound H6963 of the trumpet, H7782 resort H6908 (NiphImpf) ye thither unto us: our God H430 shall fight H3898 (NiphImpf) for us.

in the place that ye hear the voice of the trumpet thither ye are gathered unto us; our God doth fight for us.’

So neither I, nor my brothers, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard who followed me took off our clothes. Everyone took his weapon to the water.

So neither I, nor my brethren, H251 nor my servants, H5288 nor the men H582 of the guard H4929 which followed H310 me, none of us H587 put off H6584 (QalActPtc) our clothes, H899 [saving that] every one H376 put them off H7973 for washing. H4325

and there are none-I and my brethren and my servants, the men of the guard who are after me-there are none of us putting off our garments, each hath his vessel of water.

For there were some who said, “We, our sons and our daughters, are many. Let us get grain, that we may eat and live.”

For there were H3426 that said, H559 (QalActPtc) We, our sons, H1121 and our daughters, H1323 [are] many: H7227 therefore we take up H3947 (QalImpf) corn H1715 [for them], that we may eat, H398 (QalImpf) and live. H2421 (QalImpf)

yea, there are who are saying, ‘Our sons, and our daughters, we-are many, and we receive corn, and eat, and live.’

There were also some who said, “We are mortgaging our fields, our vineyards, and our houses. Let us get grain, because of the famine.”

[Some] also there were H3426 that said, H559 (QalActPtc) We have mortgaged H6148 (QalActPtc) our lands, H7704 vineyards, H3754 and houses, H1004 that we might buy H3947 (QalImpf) corn, H1715 because of the dearth. H7458

And there are who are saying, ‘Our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses, we are pledging, and we receive corn for the famine.’

There were also some who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute using our fields and our vineyards as collateral.

There were H3426 also that said, H559 (QalActPtc) We have borrowed H3867 (QalPerf) money H3701 for the king’s H4428 tribute, H4060 [and that upon] our lands H7704 and vineyards. H3754

And there are who are saying, ‘We have borrowed money for the tribute of the king, on our fields, and our vineyards;

Also I said, “The thing that you do is not good. Shouldn’t you walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the nations, our enemies?

Also I said, H559 (QalImpf) It [is] not good H2896 that H1697 ye do: H6213 (QalActPtc) ought ye not to walk H3212 (QalImpf) in the fear H3374 of our God H430 because of the reproach H2781 of the heathen H1471 our enemies? H341 (QalActPtc)

And I say, ‘Not good is the thing that ye are doing; in the fear of our God do ye not walk, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?

Also I shook out my lap, and said, “So may God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, that doesn’t perform this promise; even may he be shaken out and emptied like this.” All the assembly said, “Amen,” and praised Yahweh. The people did according to this promise.

Also I shook H5287 (QalPerf) my lap, H2684 and said, H559 (QalImpf) So God H430 shake out H5287 (PielImpf) every man H376 from his house, H1004 and from his labour, H3018 that performeth H6965 (HiphImpf) not this promise, H1697 even thus be he shaken out, H5287 (QalPasPtc) and emptied. H7386 And all the congregation H6951 said, H559 (QalImpf) Amen, H543 and praised H1984 (PielImpf) the Lord. H3068 And the people H5971 did H6213 (QalImpf) according to this promise. H1697

also, my lap I have shaken, and I say, ‘Thus doth God shake out every man, who doth not perform this thing, from his house, and from his labour; yea, thus is he shaken out and empty;’ and all the assembly say, ‘Amen,’ and praise Jehovah; and the people do according to this thing.

But the former governors who were before me were supported by the people, and took bread and wine from them, plus forty shekels° of silver; yes, even their servants ruled over the people, but I didn’t do so, because of the fear of God.

Nehemiah 5:15 A shekel is about 10 grams or about 0.35 ounces.

But the former H7223 governors H6346 that [had been] before H6440 me were chargeable H3513 (HiphPerf) unto the people, H5971 and had taken H3947 (QalImpf) of them bread H3899 and wine, H3196 beside H310 forty H705 shekels H8255 of silver; H3701 yea, even H1571 their servants H5288 bare rule H7980 (QalPerf) over the people: H5971 but so did H6213 (QalPerf) not I, because H6440 of the fear H3374 of God. the former governors who are before me have made themselves heavy on the people, and take of them in bread and wine, besides in silver forty shekels; also, their servants have ruled over the people-and I have not done so, because of the fear of God.

Now that which was prepared for one day was one ox and six choice sheep. Also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days a store of all sorts of wine. Yet for all this, I didn’t demand the governor’s pay, because the bondage was heavy on this people.

Now [that] which was prepared H6213 (NiphPtc) [for me] daily H3117 [was] one H259 ox H7794 [and] six H8337 choice H1305 (QalPasPtc) sheep; H6629 also fowls H6833 were prepared H6213 (NiphPerf) for me, and once in ten H6235 days H3117 store H7235 (HiphInf) of all sorts of wine: H3196 yet for all H5973 this required H1245 (PielPerf) not I the bread H3899 of the governor, H6346 because the bondage H5656 was heavy H3513 (QalPerf) upon this people. and that which hath been prepared for one day is one ox, six fat sheep, also fowls have been prepared for me, and once in ten days of all wines abundantly, and with this, the bread of the governor I have not sought, for heavy is the service on this people.

I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I can’t come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and come down to you?”

And I sent H7971 (QalImpf) messengers H4397 unto them, saying, H559 (QalInf) I [am] doing H6213 (QalActPtc) a great H1419 work, H4399 so that I cannot H3201 (QalImpf) come down: H3381 (QalInf) why should the work H4399 cease, H7673 (QalImpf) whilst H834 I leave H7503 (HiphImpf) it, and come down H3381 (QalPerf) to you?

And I send unto them messengers, saying, ‘A great work I am doing, and I am not able to come down; why doth the work cease when I let it alone, and have come down unto you?’

“Remember, my God, Tobiah and Sanballat according to these their works, and also the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets that would have put me in fear.”

My God, H430 think H2142 (QalImpv) thou upon Tobiah H2900 and Sanballat H5571 according to these their works, H4639 and on the prophetess H5031 Noadiah, H5129 and the rest H3499 of the prophets, H5030 that would have put me in fear. H3372 (PielPtc)

Be mindful, O my God, of Tobiah, and of Sanballat, according to these his works, and also, of Noadiah the prophetess, and of the rest of the prophets who have been making me afraid.

These are the children of the province who went up out of the captivity of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and who returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, everyone to his city,

These [are] the children H1121 of the province, H4082 that went up H5927 (QalActPtc) out of the captivity, H7628 of those that had been carried away, H1473 whom Nebuchadnezzar H5019 the king H4428 of Babylon H894 had carried away, H1540 (HiphPerf) and came again H7725 (QalImpf) to Jerusalem H3389 and to Judah, H3063 every one H376 unto his city; H5892

These are sons of the province, those coming up of the captives of the removal that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon removed-and they turn back to Jerusalem and to Judah, each to his city-

Of the priests: the children of Hobaiah, the children of Hakkoz, the children of Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name.

And of the priests: H3548 the children H1121 of Habaiah, H2252 the children H1121 of Koz, H6976 the children H1121 of Barzillai, H1271 which took H3947 (QalPerf) [one] of the daughters H1323 of Barzillai H1271 the Gileadite H1569 to wife, H802 and was called H7121 (NiphImpf) after their name. H8034

And of the priests: sons of Habaiah sons of Koz, sons of Barzillai, who hath taken from the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite a wife, and is called by their name.

That which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand darics of gold, plus two thousand minas of silver, and sixty-seven priests’ garments.

And [that] which the rest H7611 of the people H5971 gave H5414 (QalPerf) [was] twenty H8147 thousand H7239 drams H1871 of gold, H2091 and two thousand H505 pound H4488 of silver, H3701 and threescore H8346 and seven H7651 priests’ H3548 garments. H3801

And that which the rest of the people have given is of gold, drams two myriads, and of silver, pounds two thousand, and of priests coats, sixty and seven.

All the people gathered themselves together as one man into the wide place that was in front of the water gate; and they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which Yahweh had commanded to Israel.

And all the people H5971 gathered themselves together H622 (NiphImpf) as one H259 man H376 into the street H7339 that [was] before H6440 the water H4325 gate; H8179 and they spake H559 (QalImpf) unto Ezra H5830 the scribe H5608 (QalActPtc) to bring H935 (HiphInf) the book H5612 of the law H8451 of Moses, H4872 which the Lord H3068 had commanded H6680 (PielPerf) to Israel. H3478

And all the people are gathered as one man unto the broad place that is before the water-gate, and they say to Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, that Jehovah commanded Israel.

He read from it before the wide place that was in front of the water gate from early morning until midday, in the presence of the men and the women, and of those who could understand. The ears of all the people were attentive to the book of the law.

and he readeth in it before the broad place that is before the water-gate, from the light till the middle of the day, over-against the men, and the women, and those intelligent, and the ears of all the people are unto the book of the law.

Ezra the scribe stood on a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.

And Ezra H5830 the scribe H5608 (QalActPtc) stood H5975 (QalImpf) upon a pulpit H4026 of wood, H6086 which they had made H6213 (QalPerf) for the purpose; H1697 and beside H681 him stood H5975 (QalImpf) Mattithiah, H4993 and Shema, H8087 and Anaiah, H6043 and Urijah, H223 and Hilkiah, H2518 and Maaseiah, H4641 on his right hand; H3225 and on his left hand, H8040 Pedaiah, H6305 and Mishael, H4332 and Malchiah, H4441 and Hashum, H2828 and Hashbadana, H2806 Zechariah, H2148 [and] Meshullam. H4918

And Ezra the scribe standeth on a tower of wood that they made for the purpose, and Mattithiah standeth near him, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right; and on his left Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddana, Zechariah, Meshullam.

All the people went their way to eat, to drink, to send portions, and to celebrate, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.

And all the people H5971 went their way H3212 (QalImpf) to eat, H398 (QalInf) and to drink, H8354 (QalInf) and to send H7971 (PielInf) portions, H4490 and to make H6213 (QalInf) great H1419 mirth, H8057 because they had understood H995 (HiphPerf) the words H1697 that were declared H3045 (HiphPerf) unto them.

And all the people go to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great joy, because they have understood concerning the words that they made known to them.

They found written in the law how Yahweh had commanded by Moses that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast of the seventh month;

And they found H4672 (QalImpf) written H3789 (QalPasPtc) in the law H8451 which the Lord H3068 had commanded H6680 (PielPerf) by H3027 Moses, H4872 that the children H1121 of Israel H3478 should dwell H3427 (QalImpf) in booths H5521 in the feast H2282 of the seventh H7637 month: H2320

And they find written in the law that Jehovah commanded by the hand of Moses, that the sons of Israel dwell in booths in the feast, in the seventh month,

You are Yahweh, the God who chose Abram, brought him out of Ur of the Chaldees, gave him the name of Abraham,

Thou [art] the Lord H3068 the God, H430 who didst choose H977 (QalPerf) Abram, H87 and broughtest him forth H3318 (HiphPerf) out of Ur H218 of the Chaldees, H3778 and gavest H7760 (QalPerf) him the name H8034 of Abraham; H85

‘Thou art He, O Jehovah God, who didst fix on Abraham, and didst bring him out from Ur of the Chaldeans, and didst make his name Abraham,

Moreover, in a pillar of cloud you led them by day; and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light in the way in which they should go.

Moreover thou leddest H5148 (HiphPerf) them in the day H3119 by a cloudy H6051 pillar; H5982 and in the night H3915 by a pillar H5982 of fire, H784 to give them light H215 (HiphInf) in the way H1870 wherein they should go. H3212 (QalImpf)

And by a pillar of cloud Thou hast led them by day, and by a pillar of fire by night, to lighten to them the way in which they go.

and gave them bread from the sky for their hunger, and brought water out of the rock for them for their thirst, and commanded them that they should go in to possess the land which you had sworn to give them.

and refused to obey. They weren’t mindful of your wonders that you did among them, but hardened their neck, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and didn’t forsake them.

Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness, don’t let all the travail seem little before you that has come on us, on our kings, on our princes, on our priests, on our prophets, on our fathers, and on all your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria to this day.

‘And now, O our God-God, the great, the mighty, and the fearful, keeping the covenant and the kindness-let not all the travail that hath found us be little before Thee, for our kings, for our heads, and for our priests, and for our prophets, and for our fathers, and for all Thy people, from the days of the kings of Asshur unto this day;

Also our kings, our princes, our priests, and our fathers have not kept your law, nor listened to your commandments and your testimonies with which you testified against them.

Neither have our kings, H4428 our princes, H8269 our priests, H3548 nor our fathers, H1 kept H6213 (QalPerf) thy law, H8451 nor hearkened H7181 (HiphPerf) unto thy commandments H4687 and thy testimonies, H5715 wherewith thou didst testify H5749 (HiphPerf) against them.

and our kings, our heads, our priests, and our fathers, have not done Thy law, nor attended unto Thy commands, and to Thy testimonies, that Thou hast testified against them;

For they have not served you in their kingdom, and in your great goodness that you gave them, and in the large and rich land which you gave before them. They didn’t turn from their wicked works.

and they, in their kingdom, and in Thine abundant goodness, that Thou hast given to them, and in the land, the large and the fat, that Thou hast set before them, have not served Thee, nor turned back from their evil doings.

“Behold, we are servants today, and as for the land that you gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its good, behold, we are servants in it.

It yields much increase to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins. Also they have power over our bodies and over our livestock, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

and its increase it is multiplying to the kings whom Thou hast set over us in our sins; and over our bodies they are ruling, and over our cattle, according to their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

joined with their brothers, their nobles, and entered into a curse and into an oath, to walk in God’s law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of Yahweh our Lord, and his ordinances and his statutes;
